In this episode of Trail Angels powered by Cairn the Load, Mark and Annette are going to talk about how you can overcome any addictive behavior through understanding and self-awareness.

Addiction is a huge problem in our society today, and it seems like more and more people are struggling with different types of addictions every day. But there is hope. By understanding addiction and by being aware of your own behaviors, you can overcome any addictive habit or compulsion.

One of the best ways to understand addiction is to take a closer look at yourself. Think about your own behaviors and what makes you feel good or bad. Do you crave certain foods, or are you prone to overindulge in food? Are you easily bored or do you struggle with keeping yourself occupied? By understanding how certain triggers make you feel, you can start to overcome your addictive behaviors.

Another key component in overcoming addiction is self-awareness. Being aware of what makes you feel good or bad and then learning coping mechanisms that help you avoid those things that make you feel out of control can be very helpful. For example, if being bored triggers your addictive behavior, then try finding ways to stay occupied. This could mean joining a book club or volunteering in your community.

At the end of the day, overcoming addiction is all about self-control and awareness. By understanding what makes you feel good and bad, and by finding ways to replace those unhealthy behaviors with healthy ones, you can go on to live a happier, more fulfilled life.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please reach out for help. There are many resources available to you, and you don’t have to go through this alone.

If there's one thing that stands in the way of people making changes in their lives, it's their thoughts. Our thoughts can be powerful barriers to change, but they can also be helpful tools for growth. In this episode, we'll explore how to overcome the #1 barrier: our thoughts. We'll look at some healthy thinking patterns that can help us make positive changes in our lives, and we'll learn how to use these patterns to our advantage.

In this episode of Trail Angels powered by Cairn the Load, Mark and Annette will be discussing Healthy Thinking Patterns. We share some powerful tools that will be helpful to understand our true identity, our worth, and how worth is different than "worthiness." We discuss common inaccurate thinking patterns and "triggers," what they are and how we respond to them, and ultimately healthy thinking patterns and how we can change our thoughts to a healthier way of thinking.

Grab a paper and pencil, and be prepared to join us as we learn how to create Healthy Thinking Patterns.

Common Inaccurate Thinking Patterns
All or Nothing, Mislabeling, Jumping to Conclusions, Personalizing, Emotional Reasoning, Overgeneralization, Negative Mental Filter, Discounting the Positive, Magnification, "Should" Statements.

At the core of every thought, you have a belief. Your beliefs determine your thoughts, feelings, actions, and behaviors. In other words, your beliefs are what shape your entire experience of reality.

If you don't believe something is possible, you'll never be able to make it happen. If your beliefs limit your progress towards your goals, your life will always be stuck in a rut, and you'll never achieve your full potential.

What makes your life better: your time, energy, or thoughts?

It takes as much mental effort as positive thoughts as negative ones. If we want to change our lives for the better, we need to stop accepting our limiting beliefs just because they're comfortable. Sometimes your thoughts can help your efforts, but other times your thoughts will do nothing but reinforce your current situation.

If you want to move forward in your life, you have to start thinking differently. You need to take control of your mind and take responsibility for your mental patterns.

In this episode of Trail Angels powered by Cairn the Load Annette and Mark have an incredible conversation with Paul Henderson.

Part of the reason Paul wrote Slave No More: Conquering the Master Within is because of the observed parallels between chattel slavery and an enslaved mindset. As a historian and a teacher, Paul continued to explore this fascinating concept, and the more he studied, the more convinced he became of the parallels.

Both individuals are bound; only one is physically bound to his master/slave owner, and the other is bound to a thought process, past life circumstances, failure, etc.

When we observe those who led the way in the fight for freedom, there was one clear and common trait: a strong, burning vision. That burning desire for freedom allowed them to go against all odds, overcome any adversity that could have been seen as a roadblock, and in the end, accomplish their goal: freedom.

At the same time, the individuals Paul interviewed overcame an enslaved mindset and showed the exact same characteristics. They had a strong vision that allowed them to overcome obstacles and live a life beyond the limiting thoughts that once held them bound.

We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Paul as he recounted the process of interviewing amazing individuals, learning from them, weaving their real stories through a fictional storyline, and coming to the decision that he would be a #SlaveNoMore. Paul made a decision to no longer be enslaved to limiting thoughts, and choose to overcome that master that held him bound.

Mark and Annette have also chosen to live a life free from limits, and are having the time of their lives.

We hope you enjoy this incredible conversation as much as we did!

What’s your story? Are You Ready To Be A #SlaveNoMore

In this episode, Mark & Annette have an open, vulnerable conversation with Julie Cluff. Julie has a story that honestly none of us want to own. As you listen to this episode, you will realize that you have the power within to build a beautiful life after loss.

In 2007 Julie's two youngest children died in a car accident – her daughter Carrie was ten, and her son David was 8. Julie describes the first three years as absolute hell. She felt so fragile, and she knew that nothing in her life would ever be the same.

She worked with a therapist to overcome my PTSD – caused by driving the car that rolled over and changed their lives forever. She fought every day to get up in the morning and try to make sense of her new reality. One of the first things Julie learned was not to judge or let anything anyone said affect her which helped me move forward in relationships...

On the 3rd anniversary almost to the day, things changed. Julie started to feel more like she could cope. Her therapist proclaimed her DONE. She did not feel done. Yes, Julie was better but she didn't know where to start to truly rebuild my life.

Julie realized that she had already experienced the worst thing that could happen, which created a weird mix of fear and courage inside her. Julie began building new experiences and creating a new identity. It was a relief when her friends and family could finally perceive her beyond the tragedy.

In 2012 Julie had a profound experience that sent her on a search for even more answers. Julie knew she was being directed to help others who had experienced an overwhelming loss like I had, but how do I do that?

Then one day, while listening to Brooke Castillo's podcast from The Life Coach School, Julie had an aha moment. She knew exactly what she meant when she described her lost feelings after therapy. And she explained that therapy looks back to work on diagnosed mental issues whereas coaching looks forward to inspire and create a life of goals and dreams.

Julie Cluff is an intuitive grief coach and the founder of Build a Life After Loss, a company dedicated to helping those who are grieving navigate grief and personal healing. She's the host of the popular Build a Life After Loss podcast, a speaker, and the author of the book Miracles in the Darkness. She and her husband Ron are the parents of 6 beautiful children including 2 angels and grandparents of 10 fabulous grandkids.

If you're looking for a way to overcome the obstacles in your life, this is not just another self-help podcast. This is an invitation.

Mark & Annette had an inspiring conversation with Dorsey Ross. Dorsey was born on January 16th, 1977, with a congenital disability known as Apert’s Syndrome. When Dorsey was born, his forehead was pushed outward, his nose and mouth were pushed inward, and his fingers and toes were fused, meaning he had no individual movement of them. Doctors gave Dorsey’s parents no hope for his survival and advised them to put him into an institution. His parents both knew and trusted in God, and they believed that God would do great things in Dorsey’s life. Throughout his life, Dorsey has had to overcome a lot of obstacles, and trials, being bullied, called names like monster and freak, and undergone multiple operations.

Teachers told Dorsey he would not make it in college, and with all odds against him, he entered Queens Borough Community College. After four years there, and after attaining an associate degree, he entered the University of Valley Forge. After years of hard work and perseverance, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Ministry. His life saying is, “can’t is not in my vocabulary” because, for most of his life, he has never used the word can’t. He believes that with God, all things are possible and that he can do all things through Christ who gives him strength. It’s with God’s help he is overcoming life’s obstacles.

Reach out to Dorsey and order your signed copy of Overcomer, understanding God's plan against all odds.

What defines you? What do you stand for? If your answer is "I don't know", then it's time to find out! And I believe that once we understand what God has called us to be and do, our lives will never be the same again. So let me ask: Who are YOU going to be today?

This podcast will teach you how to get over your fear of failure and start living a life worth sharing. In this podcast, we'll share Bobbi Kahler's personal story of success and failure, as well as 4 recipes for self-coaching that can help you learn from your mistakes, find out what's holding you back, and how to learn your way forward.

The other critical piece is to learn your way forward. It is almost impossible to know everything we need to know before we start – and that is not a reason to wait. It simply means that we need to become students of learning the skills, behaviors and mindsets that will make us successful. These are all learnable behaviors and skills; they are not innate things that we are born with or not. They can be learned and developed the same as any other skill, like learning to ride, ski, or hit a ball. We may not become great at them overnight, but they can be learned, practiced, and mastered.

Most people haven’t heard a doctor tell them, “You shouldn't be alive.” Bobbi has. And her personal story of rebuilding her health to become a vibrant athlete is inspiring and offers hope to listeners that anything is possible for them. It also gives her credibility as she hasn’t just studied these concepts; she has lived them – and, in fact, is alive because of them. Bobbi blends her storytelling ability with her experience coaching thousands of people and her graduate studies to deliver key insights and practical steps forward.

Bobbi’s signature strength is helping people to get off the bench and move towards their goals. She believes that while goal setting and vision are important, it is more important to start something. Nothing happens until you do, so she offers listeners proven ways of getting in the game by putting themselves on course for achieving what they want most from life.

During this inspiring conversation, Lois details the journey of her son’s dramatic failure in first grade. She tells of the twist and turns that promoted Lois's passion and her son’s dramatic academic turn-a-round.

This episode provides hope to many who face challenges. Lois said, "I've learned to embrace life and overcome adversities." This conversation will inspire both parents, teachers, and listeners to believe in themselves, to seek solutions beyond the “average,” and they may achieve the impossible.

This conversation paints a beautiful picture of a mother's love. Lois recognized her “learning difference” at age 39. You're going to find out the three secrets that will help you have a marriage that is healthy and successful no matter what life throws your way.

Every marriage is different, but some universal principles will help you have a healthy and successful marriage. In this episode, Mark & Annette chat with Darrell and Veronica Williams about how to build your relationship on the right foundation, what it means to be vulnerable with each other, why it's important to maintain an intimate connection with your spouse, and more!

Every couple can have a healthy marriage. Couples often find themselves in the world of "we're in it together, or we're not even." If you want to have a successful marriage, there needs to be a divorce from yourself. You must be willing to share everything that's going on without criticism. This might involve things that are important to your marriage but don't really seem like an issue at the moment. Sharing encourages couples to collaborate and work through what life throws their way together.

Darrell and Veronica Williams are the Founders of Alliance Seminars Coaching, a veteran-owned, faith-based organization that provides clients with coaching services, motivational speaking, and certified workshops. The Williams mission is to support clients by sharing strategies and skills that strengthen personal and professional relationships. They also collaborate with individuals and organizations to improve leadership skills, increasing the individual quality of life and business culture. We have inspired individuals, couples, and organizations throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Darrell and Veronica's experience also comes from being licensed ministers, Associate Pastor, and Master Certified Life Coaches. Additionally, they have mentored military couples during Darrell's later years in the United States Army.

Mark and Annette have an inspiring conversation with Meridith Alexandar. Meridith is a best-selling author, powerhouse mompreneur, and top female motivational speaker who has become known for inspiring high-level professionals and entrepreneurs to venture beyond the place where their beliefs stop them -- all thanks to a plummeting boulder that changed her "old normal" into the destiny that she embraces today.

Meridith challenges you to explore the boundaries of endless possibilities, positive expectations, and deliberate creation.

With the remarkable life and death challenges that were laid firmly at her feet, she learned that it's these tiny individual seeds of Greatness that live waiting to be cultivated within our own minds. Then, as we master our own mindset and discover the real beauty within our own story, we become free to empower others and to go on to create "impossible" things.

Annette, Mark & Meridith have experienced "impossible" boulders that have turned our ordinary lives into epic ones.

In this conversation, we focus on transforming the impossible into the “I’m Possible” and how ordinary people are capable of achieving EPIC things that seem totally “unrealistic” when they know how to fuse their inner game with the outer game.

In fact, we believe that it's thanks to these "impossible" boulders that our ordinary lives have become epic lives and that your "impossible" boulders can have that same effect on you.

Meridith's daughter Schuyler survived the “unsurvivable,” and she became her 24/7 caregiver.

We discuss parts of the journey and some real tools/insights that will help you obliterate your blind spot thinking and self-doubt to start unleashing the more epic version of yourself regardless of the circumstances.

Meridith would love to offer you the chance to hop onto a 20-minute UNLEASH THE EPIC YOU strategy call with her to see where you might be getting in your own way. bit.ly/GOEPICNOW

In this episode, we'll explore how adversity is the key to growth and authenticity.

The topic of overcoming adversity has come up a lot in recent years, with people looking for ways to help themselves or their children better deal with challenges. It's often said that we grow from overcoming our adversities, but what does that really mean? The truth is, it means different things for everyone. In this episode, we'll show you some of the most common obstacles people face and give you tips on how to use them as opportunities for personal growth instead of dwelling on them as sources of pain.

What's more important than understanding adversity is understanding what your authentic self looks like--the parts of yourself that are true and real no matter

In this episode, we have a delightful conversation with guest Dr. Jessica Houston.

Dr. Houston is a professor at Purdue University and has unveiled what peak performance looks like and what you need to do to get there to thousands of individuals now living a life of happiness. In this episode

Dr. Jessica shares some key points to overcoming adversity, being successful, and making our own happiness.

1) You make your own happiness: It's not about what happens to us; it's how we react to it. Happiness is a decision no matter what situation you're in!

2) Being vulnerable is key to success: We should never be afraid of being authentic and showing who we really are. People can relate better with an honest person rather than hiding behind their masks or trying too hard to impress them.

3) Education opens doors for opportunity: There is always something new around the corner, and education gives us

Nate Rifkin was a lot like so many people who are struggling with finding their path. After dropping out of college, he had dedicated himself to self-help and pursuing my entrepreneurial dreams. Yet he failed to achieve any of his goals. Worse, he spiraled into debt, drank alcohol every morning, felt lonely, lost, and hated himself.

A few years later – after a brutal bankruptcy and a stint spinning signs on a street corner – Nate quadrupled his income, married the woman of his dreams, and found happiness and contentment.

What made the difference? Oddly enough, Nate discovered an ancient form of meditation that reversed his downward spiral and elevated the levels of success he never dreamed possible.

Recently Nate published a book about his journey called The Standing Meditation. Nate is currently training/studying to become a Daoist priest and get his Doctorate in Chinese Energetic Medicine.

Nate is candid about the pain he went through and gave thoughtful answers to every question. Our listeners will love, relate to, and be inspired by our conversation with Nate Rifkin - as well as receive practical ways to get through their emotional and spiritual roadblocks.

Simply put: Dr. Joe Martin is passionate about helping men win!

The truth is, almost every man wants to be a great husband, an awesome father, and a successful provider for his family. But most men are secretly frustrated or afraid of failing in their role as "family leaders." Because deep down inside, most of us don't know how to be the men we desperately desire to be, because more than likely, we didn't have the "right man" in the home to teach us. And I was one of those men.

Dr. Joe is the product of a single, teenage-mother, he successfully survived abject poverty, sexual and physical abuse, father abandonment, anger, depression, rejection, and addiction by graduating from college (first generation, top of his class) at age 20; starting his first business at age 22 (retail clothing store); becoming a university professor at age 24 (youngest in history in the state of Florida); earning his doctorate degree at 28, and writing 2 books by the age of 30, only to lose it all 7 years later due to my addiction to pornography and sex.

Dr. Joe now dedicates his life to helping men, husbands, and fathers write their own comeback stories or at least prevent them from having to write one at all.

Dr. Joe Martin is an award-winning internationally-known speaker, author, professor, and certified "man builder" who helps men win at what matters and frustrates them most as husbands, fathers, and spiritual leaders.

Dr. Joe has authored or co-authored more than nine books, including Man Accomplished!, Are You the Man?, and The Real Man Spiritual Leader Blueprint. He's also the host of the #1-rated podcast for Christian Men on Apple Podcasts (with more than 1.7 million downloads), and he's interviewed more than 475 men from all over the world from company presidents to prison inmates.

His life’s story can be summarized in one simple sentence: “He went from rags to riches to ruined to redemption.” Having it all by age 30, losing it all by age 40, and gaining it all back by age 50 - now hosting the #1-rated podcast for Christian Men on Apple Podcasts!

For our listeners, Dr. Joe has offered a FREE on-demand training video for men called "The 5 Critical Things Every Man Needs to Become the Hero of His Home and the Husband, Father, and Leader His Wife Deserves."

After surviving being hit by an impaired driver, Carey has become a public speaker regarding her recovery, the challenges that she endures, and how working as a disabled cattle farmer/speaker has given her purpose again.

Awesome. Awesome. So before we leave our conversation and I think that we could probably go on for another hour, cause I'm, I'm, we've really enjoyed this dialogue here, but we always give our guests the last word there. And you know, we've talked about a lot, we've talked about emotional resilience, physical resilience, spiritual resilience. We've talked about thriving versus just surviving. We've talked about a lot, forgiveness,

Carey is there anything else that you'd like to share with our listeners as to your story and what you've learned that might be helpful for those that are dealing with their own internal struggles

Yeah. I feel that if you will use the support, the positive support system around you, and if you make a daily choice to have a positive attitude, I don't care what you're going through. It doesn't have to be anything remotely close to what I'm going through. I promise that if you do those two things, you will get through any challenge in your life, but you, you have to choose to use them both

Carey is the author of the book Facing Life Head On

Combining science, entertainment, and large doses of Australian humor, he speaks from a place of deep compassion and authority on Mental Health issues that are affecting us all in this new normal: anxiety, depression, addictions, personality issues, trauma, suicide, and relationship breakdown. Dr. Christian can "break down this [mental health] stuff in real terms" (Attorney, Philadelphia).  He uses a lot of ways to do this: humor, stories and I podcast with a live piano in front of me (I used to be a music professor). Mental Health is tough to talk about, but he's into prevention to make this world a happier and less stress-driven place.

We chat about difficult issues - suicide, broken relationships, trauma - but these are handled incredibly sensitively. And what's more important is that there is always hope given, huge DOSES of it in the practical takeaways.

This episode's message will help our audience transform their relationship to power so that they can stop selling out on their personal power and free themselves from self-sabotaging behaviors. It will help them heal toxic relationship patterns and negotiate power struggles more effectively.

The conversation about power—who has it, who’s been denied it, and who dares to defy established power structures—is critically important for our turbulent, chaotic, and uncertain times. We have a particular message about women's empowerment, and Christian's book includes a chapter on what it means to be a man in the 21st century, which I think our audience will also find of interest.

It's a unique conversation of the ego-mind, how it works, and how we break free from its self-imposed prison of limitation will also be illuminating and supportive to your audience.

Christian connects his personal transformation story to the empowerment journey and assists our audience to transcend fear and overcome obstacles. He is an immigrant from Cuba who came to the U.S. at age 10 without speaking a word of English, and, as a painfully shy teenager whose adolescence was one long depression, an unlikely person to be writing about heroism and personal power. Christian shares a personal story about how he actually sabotaged his GPA in high school (all A's except for one B) to avoid having to give the valedictory speech! He is an internationally recognized teacher and speaker, including on the TEDx stage. This was an exciting episode with Dr. Marissa. During this episode, we chat about "Happy 88 Mission", Balance Tools, 21 Day Fast from Complaining, and Balance Tai QiQong, a moving mediation that promotes Inner Peace One Breath at a Time.

We did not shy away from talking about what is happening in our country with Asian Americans being targeted with hate crimes, the pandemic, and why Dr. Marissa advocates that there is nothing wrong with people who have had abuse in their past?

Dr. Marissa’s newest book, “8 Ways to Happiness from Wherever You Are,” has hit 8 Bestseller Lists.  We talked about why we focus on 88% Happy and NOT 100% Happy.

Thank You, Dr. Marissas @docbalance. It was a pleasure having you on our show.@docbalance

Ashley Taylor, a co-founder of Boots Media, sat down with Annette to discuss the impact of Social Media in our lives.

Ashley has been in the social media world for 7 years and involved in marketing and branding for more than 12 years.  She’s been on all sides of social media - creating, engaging, strategizing.

She and her sister Mandy started Boots Media Co after realizing the need for more connection, courage, and creativity in online branding and media.

Have you ever hopped on social media to check on something and find that your 5 mins actually turned into 1 hour?

How often do you get sucked into the trap of commenting in a way you would never think of if you were chatting with that friend in person?

Do you find yourself building bridges or driving in the wedge?

Have you ever felt guilty after you "unfollowed" someone?

Ashley offers a great perspective on social media, boundaries, self-control, and even personal audits regarding social media and its impact on our lives.
