The IceCream Team is based in the Rome area of Italy, and their platform combines sustainable tourism with scientific research and citizen science with the goal of saving the glaciers.

In this 5-part feature, I talk to international women leaders who ran for office, and are working to change their communities through public service. These women were brought to Washington, DC to be honored at an International Women's Day celebration by the Women's Democracy Network, a multi-partisan initiative of the International Republican Institute that works to increase women's political participation, leadership, and representation in elected office in every region of the world. I sat down with these women leaders at the National Press Club to discuss their vision for their countries. Alona Shkrum is a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine where she represents the Batkivshchyna faction. She entered office in November 2014 following a revolution that overthrew the Yanukovich government, and she works to reform her country's civil service and judiciary, and to promote human rights.

These women were brought to Washington, DC to be honored at an International Women's Day celebration by the Women's Democracy Network, a multi-partisan initiative of the International Republican Institute that works to increase women's political participation, leadership, and representation in elected office in every region of the world. I sat down with these women leaders at the National Press Club to discuss their vision for their countries. Jamila Debbech Ksiksi is a member of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People in Tunisia, and belongs to the Ennahdha Party. She was elected into office in October 2014, and in 2016 she was appointed to the position of Assistant to the President of the Assembly. Jamila has worked to fight corruption, to implement economic and social reforms, and to promote human rights, all while working to establish constitutional institutions in Tunisia and to strengthen the position of women in decision-making positions. Jamila spoke with me in Arabic for this interview, all of which I have included in this episode, except for the first which was truncated due to a recording error. Jamila's comments are translated today by Sara Kamel.

Luz spoke with me in Spanish for this interview, which I have included in full in this episode. Luz's comments are translated today by Kelly Reynolds.
