For those who don’t know, I coach Special Olympics on Sundays, usually right before the show. Today is the last practice of our bowling season. Due to a very generous donation to Special Olympics Colorado, for the first time, I’m going to be able to have a season-ending party for my athletes and partners. Nothing big, just some pizzas, wings, sodas, and, most importantly, funnel cake fries. However, to these kids, it will mean the world. Most of my families can’t afford pricey bowling alley snacks, and the kids have to watch others around us enjoy their pricey family date days. Today will be different and it will be amazing. You may be too busy to volunteer your time, but know that your donations to reputable organizations can go a long way and touch lives even in the smallest ways.

Cons had a big presence on our little show this week, including TFCon, MCM, 1027, and more. Mastermind Creation’s new Devastator won big against Hasbro’s. The biggest baddy for Joe has finally come to fruition. Star Wars had its own new big bad added to its Black Series line. Meanwhile, the only Masters news was there would be a con four months from now.

What do you represent? Are you just a toy collector? I assume you have other interests as well. Do you represent a group of people, a geographical location, or maybe just some other interest? I hope so. Everybody needs something they stand for. I rep the 505 (New Mexico), the 303 (Colorado), countless graffiti crews, my homies, Knicks, Saints, Yankees, action figure collecting, hip hop, and so much more. However, nowadays, I primarily represent my family, the most important thing in my life.

Hasbro represented at New York Comic Con. Well, kind of. I think Joe stole the show again with the absolutely amazing Snake Eyes and Polar Bear. The only real stand-out for Star Wars was the Revenge of the Sith carded Black Series Commander Cody. Transformers was pretty light too, but Mandalorian Crossover N-1 looked alright. Mattel was a no-show, so the only booth repping Masters was Mondo. Not a lot of surprises, but their Faker v2 looks nice.

Transformers!

Something evil’s watching over you
Coming from the sky above
And there’s nothing you can do
Prepare to strike, there’ll be no place to run
When you’re caught within the grip
Of the evil Unicron

Strong enough to break the bravest heart
So we have to pull together
No, we can’t stay worlds apart
To stand divided we will surely fall
Until our darkest hour
When the light will save us all

Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons

It’s judgment day and now we’ve made our stand
And for now the powers of darkness
Have been driven from our land

I am typing this while I set up my first new phone in probably more than ten years. I keep up with the times, and I have had “new to me” phones passed down from Mrs. McFavorite. She’s the phone junky of the family. This is the first [queue opening music] “Aaaaahhhhh…” moment regarding a phone in a very long time. I’ve wanted this exact phone since it was announced. I did a crazy promotion hack to get it for an amazing price. I waited for weeks to ensure there were no surprises. All culminating in this one glorious moment. The only issue is I get super-worried about damaging it. I get that exact same feeling when it comes to high-end, rare, or even exclusive toys. It is almost so frightening; I enjoy myself less than just ripping open a $10 toy.

I’m really lucky the big four are pumping some great mass-release toys. I’ve been hot and cold on New Eternia, but loving the Roboto. I missed Cosmos the first time around. I will definitely enjoy opening him at a $25 price point instead of $70-80. Speaking of great, I am so happy to see Shadows of the Empire in the Black Series. We’ve talked about Dial Tone a couple of times now, but the Classified team did not disappoint.

Sometimes I love being cheap…Slick

I truthfully never thought we would still be going after 15+ years and now 300 episodes. I can’t thank my fellow co-hosts, guest hosts, listeners, and especially my loving wife enough. It has been amazing. Even if we didn’t record or broadcast, I would still need to have discussions like this. It has turned me on to amazing things, let me in on the thoughts of other collectors, and, most importantly, kept me grounded. Now, you can definitely argue how grounded I’ve become, but to me, I’m close to manageable.

Something that’s definitely manageable for collectors are kid’s meal toys. Looks like Transformers One is not going to disappoint. Classified continues to manage their assets correctly, including the amazing job done on this Dial Tone backpack. The least manageable scale, in my opinion, is 12 inches. But the Jumbo 14.5-inch IG-11 is pretty dope. Since there was no MOTU toy news, we’ll have to settle for the announcement of Camila Mendes as Teela. Let’s hope that Amazon manages to finally get this project out the door.

So, it’s Lil’ Miss McFavorite’s first week of middle school. I should probably change that to just Miss McFavorite, especially since she’s taller than her mom, even though Mrs. McFavorite won’t admit it. No, she’s not in 6th grade; she’s actually in 7th grade. For some reason, our small school district does K-6, 7-8, and 9-12. She was all excited about finally walking to school. However, to her, it’s been too hot in the afternoons and too cold in the mornings. After driving her to and from school for seven years, we’re about to say, you’re walking period. If you’re cold, put some more clothes on; if you’re hot, walk faster. In my opinion, we have done a great job of making her a strong, independent young woman, but sometimes you just gotta tell them to suck it up, buttercup.

We had a few instances of this over the last couple of weeks. The Once a Man SDCC Cobra Commander sold out way too fast, twice. Mattel’s new Snake Lair looks like it might be going back to the drawing board. When will these companies learn that we don’t all want $500 toys? The Four Horsemen put out one of their lowest-priced Mythic Legions figures to date, which also turned out to be one of their most popular figures, selling out much faster than most anticipated. The Origins concept figures Lord Gr’Asp and Terroar found a new home at BBTS, but if you didn’t act fast, you probably missed out again.

Sometimes, you’re the hammer; sometimes, you’re the nail…Slick

Since I’m behind on getting these posted, I’m going to skip the insight into my life. That’s usually the first paragraph of each post. However, I will say what my favorite things were from each franchise. While the Rattler is amazing and already backed, my favorite Joe item is a Transformer. I’m very excited to see the crossover line continue with Kup as the Triple T with Slaughter and Leatherneck. For Transformers, Hasbro finally came up with a good reason to combine Dinobots. The Dinoking box set looks like it will be a lot of fun. I missed some reveals from Masters, but of the ones I did see, I think I’m most excited for New Eternia Roboto. Star Wars, as usual, was the least interesting, but minimally we’re finally getting a Blurrg from The Mandalorian.

How many things are you an expert at? Now, there will always be people who know more, but do you think you know more than the next hundred people? How about the next ten thousand or the next million people? I tend to dabble in a little bit of everything, so there are not too many things I consider myself an expert in. But attending cons is one of those things, from planning to navigating, seating, and even waiting in line. We just attended our biggest local con. It was amazing. We didn’t miss a single panel, hit every booth, saw a ridiculous amount of celebrities, and had a super-overpriced beer. You can’t ask for much more than that.

Indie companies have been flexing their expertise as of late. No longer relegated to just making 3rd party add-ons, these companies are now direct competitors to the big boys. Ramen’s new modular tank is simply amazing. Longtime Transformers 3rd party company Fans Hobby comes in swinging with a new Sky Hawkesque vehicle. Companies are even picking up new licenses like C.O.P.S. n’ Crooks. Some of the best stuff is comimg from forgotten trademarks that have been reimagined.

Trying to be an expert in everything, ends in being an expert in nothing…Slick

Life is hard enough by itself, let alone when people are actively trying to jeopardize you and yours. Now, I have a feeling that a lot of people feel active forces are working against them when, in reality, it’s just bad timing, luck, or whatever. However, people are shady to an extent that seems unfathomable to me, but I’ve seen too much to simply never question people’s motivations. Unfortunately, work seems to be where this is the most predominant. I have had multiple people work toward getting me out of my position so they can take it. Still, to this day, this blows my mind. I have always done what’s best for the people who work for me, trying to elevate them in the process. Yet these people saw their only opportunity was to usurp my position. My question is, how do people live with themselves?

It was pretty easy to pick the four biggest news stories for each franchise this week. These aren’t always the best or my favorites, but most of the time, they are. The HasLab Cantina is amazing, but is it what people really want? It will probably fund, but definitely not with any unlocked tiers. Classified collectors have spoken, and they want vehicles. I know I really want the Cobra Stinger. However, how many can you have at this scale? Here’s one primarily for me. At the opposite end of the scale, I’m loving these Transformers Blokee deskbots. Lastly, while Scare Mare may be the new hotness, Night Stalker was always my evil steed of choice.

I’m tellin’ y’all…Slick

Why is it that you really don’t start getting interested in history until you get older? Yeah, you’re taught history throughout school, but unless you become a history buff, it doesn’t seem like people dig history until they’re much older. That is especially true with me. After about 45, I couldn’t watch enough documentaries. I have learned so much in the last few years. A lot of things I wish I would have known in my 20s and 30s. However, I think it’s like when you have kids. You can try to impart the sum of your wisdom on them, but most times, they won’t follow it, at least not immediately. You have to hope it resonates and shapes them as they grow older.

I think toy companies are doing a pretty good job of learning from their past. There are always exceptions, but overall, I feel they’re heading in the right direction. Star Wars has been doing a good job rereleasing in-demand figures. Since Toys are now being collected primarily by adults, nostalgia reigns supreme. Toy companies keep pumping out updated engineering on toys we loved, like Origins Nightstalker and Missing Link Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Hasbro, in particular, has discovered by just changing the scale you can get everyone to buy figures like the Cobra Trooper again.

Never stop learning…Slick

I’ve always been low-key humble. What do I mean by low-key? I’ve always taken pride in my accomplishments and never shied away from recognition, but I have never sought it. When presented with compliments and even just acknowledgment, I smile, say thank you, and show appreciation. However, usually, it’s just me doing what I do. I try. Maybe it’s because I always think I could have done better, no matter how well things turned out. Whatever it is, I pride myself on my humility. You might ask, but isn’t your non de plume Slick McFavorite? I have always liked it so much because I feel like it’s one of those ironic nicknames, like Tiny for a huge guy or Curly for a bald guy. Don’t get me wrong, I still represent, but I try to do it humbly.

I think toy companies need a little humility. Not so much because they’re not making amazing things, more so because they’re making too much amazing stuff. Robosen has taken the world by storm. Their newest, Megatron, looks amazing, but who is collecting these things? Star Wars is getting a little more exciting as of late, but that might be because I love the Retro and Micro Galaxy Squadron lines. I think I’ve mentioned new MOTU x TMNT in every post in the last 6 months. Finally, Classified just keeps chugging along.

Don’t seek praise, let your effort speak for itself….Slick

One of the most important things you can do in this world is to set expectations, whether with your kids, co-workers, or even your friends. Setting a standard of behavior from you that people can depend on helps foster stable and tranquil relationships. However, one of the worst things you can do is have expectations. There’s a lot more happiness in not having any. Having expectations is a road headed to disappointment. It’s quite the catch-22. What kind of expectations do you have for toys or toy companies?

The big four have set some pretty high expectations in the last couple of weeks. The Masters fall products look amazing. The Masterpiece Powermaster Optimus Prime looks great, but if Takara Tomy has done anything, it has set the expectation it will be pricey. I’ve got high expectations for the new Jazwares Vault regarding Micro Galaxy Squadron. Its first release is beautiful. My favorite expectation Hasbro set was the Name-Only reveal of Once a Man Cobra Commander.

Always expect the unexpected…Slick

I was supposed to write this post on April Fools’ Day. You can see how well that went. I guess it works. I’m writing this two days after April Fools and giving it that title. See, I tricked you. What I don’t think major companies are doing anymore is trying to trick us. They have come out and said we are making toys for you. They no longer hide behind the “these are for kids” thing. They are serving generations of collectors and trying to do their best. The question is, will that be good enough as we reach the age where nostalgia starts to wane?

It was a great couple of weeks of announcements and streams. The Transformer’s team showed off a bunch of stuff we already knew about, but seeing the new Cybertronian Wheeljack was amazing. The Master’s team showed off an impressive New Eternia Horde Trooper. Star Wars came in strong with their Imperial March. Probably my favorite thing was finally getting Captain Enoch and his Night Troopers. While there were no official reveals for Joe, Lenny and Emily still name-dropped one of my favorite Joe for the Classified line. None other than the Barbecue, uh, I mean, Blowtorch.

But, I guess my best wasn’t good enough…Slick

It’s the time-old question: do you have more money than time or more time than money? Do you eat out more than cook at home? Do you do delivery or pick things up yourself? What are the things that you sacrifice your hard-earned money for even a modicum of convenience? Through my Joy Of Missing Out (JOMO) experiments, I’m learning that pre-ordering equals convenience and saving money takes time. I’ve been following sales, hitting Rosses, and chasing clearances. The worst is when I finally relegate myself to the secondary market. The time it takes to monitor eBay and Mercari, looking for just the right price, shipping, ratings, etc., is exhausting. Where do you draw the line?

Let’s look at pre-orders this time around. I would definitely wait on the new TVC Clone Wars 4-Pack to save some money. I don’t think any of these Amazon multipacks have ever sold out before hitting ridiculously low prices. So glad I don’t do 1:6th scale. I’m not sure I could JOMO this amazing FigZero Snake Eyes. Something I probably would have FOMOed if I hadn’t missed it was the Target Exclusive Sla’ker. It combines two of my favorite characters in perfect harmony. I have allowed myself to pre-order all the Dr. Wu micromaster-scale G1 bots. I don’t want to mess around with these on the secondary market.

I seem to have always more time than money…Slick

Four years ago, I had a catastrophic injury to my ankle. It caused me to be resigned to the couch for over two months. I spent a lot of that time watching documentaries. Most of them were war-related. We have all seen the Hollywood movies, but the actual footage from war is so much more dramatic. It is so easy to put yourself in these people’s place from even almost 100 years ago, let alone from Korea or Vietnam. What would you do? How would you feel? You can see the real cost of war. Not only the billions and billions of dollars in damage but the millions and millions of lives lost. Why haven’t we learned this lesson yet? Whether you feel like you’re on the right side of history or not, everyone should know better by now.

No funny or clever tie-ins to collecting this time; besides maybe, there’s always a lesson to learn. Have you learned your lesson? Do you have a lesson to teach others? Don’t hold back. Instill your knowledge of history in the younger generation. Do whatever you can to make sure history does not repeat itself.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it…Slick

Wow, what a difference a couple of weeks and a whole lot less booze can do for your motivation, not to mention your home life. It’s like night and day. While I still do not have the output I hoped for, I’m getting there. It is so nice to feel accomplished, even if it is just baby steps. How are you doing with goals? How are your resolutions going? Mine? Don’t ask. However, every day is a new day. Every day is a new opportunity to do what we need to do. Every new day is a chance to be a better you. Outside influences may make our goals more difficult, but that doesn’t mean things won’t be better tomorrow. So long as you’re making strides, you’re still in the race.

I love supporting Kickstarters because they are really a day-at-a-time kind of thing. The latest Roboskull update shows how amazing this thing is going to be. Hasbro keeps finding a way to get more money from their molds while enticing us with one new thing. I’m still excited about their possible new Transformers Selects multi-pack. When there’s no great toy news, I’ll take some media news any day. The latest Masters of Universe Revolution trailer is great, especially its background music. And, while it is probably late to take advantage of the original fan fair, I still welcome a Mando movie.

So it’s the holidays again. I can’t remember the last time I had one that went smoothly. I get it; it’s over a month of family, friends, and obligations, but is it that hard? Is it really that hard to be around the people you love, or at least you say you love? It is for many people, and that’s okay. I am learning that no matter how hard you try, things can get a little messy, and that’s okay.

Toys are getting a little messy as well. You have what seem to be hits like the MOTU x TMNT Crossover that keep gaining steam. But then you have what we feel are flops like the Hiya Joe line and their new Gung Ho. Some are inadvertently messy, like making a 5 PoA line out of figures that were originally 5 PoA. I’m looking at you Phantom Menace Retro Collection. Some have got to know, right? Unfortunately, not the Transformers team. Or, maybe they do?

M. E. S. S. Y. You ain’t got no alibi; you’re messy. Hey, hey, you’re messy…Slick

That HISS drop hit like a bomb. I haven’t seen so many collectors so happy about something in a long time. I have only seen a couple of people complaining, and it was just minor gripes sandwiched with praise. Now me, I haven’t even opened mine yet. What are you waiting for, you might ask. I’m not sure; for something so pricey I always wait for just the perfect time. I want to be able to watch an iconic episode of the cartoon, have a drink, and focus on the joy. That seems harder and harder to come by nowadays. Trust me, it won’t be long.

Something equally well-received is the latest Figura Obscura from the 4Horsemen. Received not nearly as well, but still generating some excitement are the new O-ring Joes from Super7. I’m not sure Joe collectors will be so happy when they are $20+. Something that really impressed the crew this week was an intensely beautiful, or ugly, depending on your view, Threezero’s MDLX G2 Megatron. Not sure if it’s the piece or it’s ridiculous edition size of 50 worldwide. Something that obviously didn’t get a great reception was Hasbro’s Selfie Series; may it rest in peace.

Whatcha gonna do when HISS mania runs wild on you…Slick

I saw this meme the other day, and it made me think of one of my favorite memes. The meme I saw went, “Become OK with being the villain in someone else’s story even if you weren’t. Never forget people will turn you into whatever it is they need you to be so that their internal narrative can make sense to them. So stop trying.” This is sad to me. While I admit there are always two sides to every story, some people think they never do anything wrong. Every job they have had was the worst job they ever had. Almost every manager and co-worker was out to get them. Every friend or family member has done them wrong. Even those who have stood by them for years and dared to be frank with them get dismissed. My favorite meme goes, “You run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. You run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.”

No clever segue way this week, just the coolest stuff. The MOTU x TMNT crossovers have got us all excited. The revelation of the new Triple T in the Joe x TF crossover line sounds promising. Think Classified is killing it? The leaked listings prove that they are. While none of us collect Hot Toys, the new Ahsoka is yet another thing of beauty.

You are more than what you have become…Slick

Considering most of my posts are a kind of “ripped from the headlines” of my life approach, we’re going to focus on Support. Notice that’s Support with a capital S, not just everyday support. I’m referring to the people who are paid to help us when something goes wrong. Since I basically work in Support currently and have done so in the past, it amazes me how little Support people pay attention to. I get it, especially with chat that they are probably multi-tasking, they have metrics they have to meet, blah blah blah. Still, just pay a little more attention, please. I don’t know how many times I have chatted with professional Support for 30-45 minutes for them to say “Oh, I didn’t realize… (a very important detail explained to them in the beginning).” I try to approach my Support process with “treat people how you would like to be treated”. Maybe some people have just gotten used to being treated so badly that they don’t think they deserve to be treated better.

Can you feel the frustration with collectors nowadays? It’s either pricing, availability, or too much product. Almost everyone I know is cutting back or quitting altogether. It’s not stopping these companies. We still haven’t got our first big Classified vehicle. We just got done funding our second big vehicle, now we have a third coming our way. Transformers continues with a bevy of new exclusives. Same with Star Wars, but I ain’t mad at this EU Black Series multi-pack. While, still available, and relatively reasonable, it’s gotta be the price on some of these Power-Con exclusives that are making them hang around. Or, maybe there’s just too much MOTU out there to support 3rd Party.

Hope you’re treated well today…Slick

Maybe not today. I don’t really even know the exact day. But, about 15 years ago, Mrs. McFavorite did our first “pilot” episode of Open Your Toys Cast. I dare you to listen to it. I can’t even imagine how bad it is. Not that in those 15 years, we’ve become some highly polished, ultra-popular show. It’s quite the opposite. We’re still rough and we’re actually much less listened to now than at our peak of like 5,000 downloads. I chalk that up to more choice than anything. We used to be one of only a few shows that talked toys at the level we did. Now it’s done by hundreds if not thousands. You know the great thing? I like it even better now. Our tight-knit, small community makes me more happy than any modicum of contrived “internet” success.

Hasbro Pulse Con was kind of meh this year, but it’ll be an easy field to pick my favorites from, so here we go. Believe it or not, I think the weird rock truck was my favorite Transformer reveal. I still have no intention of picking it up. I’m a sucker for the Old Republic, so the TVC HK-47 and Jedi Revan 2-Pack was easily my favorite Star Wars reveal. I think Joe continues to kill it. It seems so much so, people are getting burned out on the whole line. I’ve always been a huge Big Boa fan, but who can really beat that deluxe Metalhead? No news for MOTU, so go enjoy Mattel’s awesome Origins stop-motion videos. They made me a lot happier when I thought I had Lady Slither on the way.

The next show should be a blast…Slick

I have been putting off writing the post for days now. It’s the only thing standing in my way of putting something else off. Why are there things I just don’t want to do? They’re not even difficult. It’s not like yard work or helping someone move. It’s just sitting around in a climate-controlled house. I can even have TV or movies on while I do it. Still, everything else comes first. Paying bills, responding to work support requests, and definitely anything I can do on my phone. I think I just need to do it so I stop fucking writing about it.

All of my favorites from this show you can put off. None of them are really required for any sort of collection. As much as I love Lady Slither and her articulated tail, do we really need her? I almost wish I had collected the Holiday Black Series figures from the beginning, especially because the latest batch is just killing it on a bunch of different levels. Another Transformers crossover to take or leave popped up as well. It looks great, but do you really need it? I don’t think anyone needs G.I. Joe ReAction figures, but the Sunbow deep cuts keep sucking me back in.

On to something else…Slick

Why is it that I am constantly laboring on Labor Day? We just spent 3 hours doing yard work. That was after camping for the second time in so many weeks. For us in The States, this weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer. We have a family date day tomorrow. This weekend we’ll set up our pool and garden. Ending it all with a BBQ. It doesn’t get more American than that. How do you celebrate the coming of the warmest of weathers? Would you prefer to be hot most of the time or cold most of the time? My answer to that question changed my life.

Toy life is heating up. Transformers made some interesting announcements at their recent livestream. Loving the deep-dive on the Evolution line. Scrap-Iron is hot, but is he over-hyped? I’m really cold on the Masterverse Whiplash, but some may dig it. Some may be cold on the politics, but I’m absolutely loving the Pride mechs.

Hope you’re living your best weather…Slick

The feeling I am hooked on is accomplishment. I’ve been killing it lately if I do say so myself. Thank god in about a month most of my volunteer obligations are done for the summer. I look forward to continuing to accomplish things. Money is getting a little tight so I really need to buckle down on the selling. I just need to get into a rhythm. What do you do when you know you need to do something you’ve needed to do forever? I hope my procrastination survival instinct is going to kick in any day now.

I think the Joe franchise survival instinct is kicking in with them trying to secure Michael Keaton for yet another reboot of the Joe cinematic universe. The Transformers team instinct is hopefully going to kick in when it comes to the Deathsaurus package artwork. Star Wars is doing pretty well with their Mando Mania, but I’m concerned that they’re doing too many of the same characters. Masters just continues to kill it. Even its partners are turning out gold.

I just spent the first part of my Sunday morning saving more than $100 on toys I’ve already bought. While this may be frowned upon, I feel it’s just being an informed consumer. I spend time being cognizant of prices and tracking prices, purchase dates, etc., to be able to do things like this. What it does do is give me that hit of serotonin. Especially 3 months into JOMO, I need these wins. Even if it is just saving money on toys I already own. JOMO hasn’t been too hard to this point, because I’m still getting a smattering of uncanceled pre-orders, but man do I miss toy runs. However, with 20-25% off at Target this week, they’re fair game. So, when I return I get to shop.

Nothing too exciting for Joe besides some new listings. We’re getting the inevitable repaint of the Volvo Prime. I really dig it but had no idea this thing was so small. While not crazy about the uncanny valley Luke in The Mandalorian, all the new Luke toys are very welcomed, including the new Training Luke. Saving the best for last was all of the MOTU Reveals. I mean, come on.

I keep trying. And I mean trying hard but it’s not happening. I try this, I try that. Things just get in the way. And in the way. And in the way. I know it will get better. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. However, how long do you keep telling yourself something without it happening? It gets so frustrating. You want something so bad and you cannot will it to happen. I never give up. But, what do I have to do?

All these companies have to do is what they’re doing. They are killing it, but is it too much? How many Classified Joes did you pre-order in the last couple of weeks? How about 3rd party Transformers? Maybe a couple of new Origins figures? FOMO finally got to me and I had to grab the new mini Lego Super Star Destroyer.

The last couple of days have been a little bit of a blur. Yesterday would have been my mom’s 71st birthday. I don’t know why I celebrate her birthday by getting drunk. She divorced my dad because he was an alcoholic. She would only have a glass of wine every once in a while. Spoiler, I also celebrate her passing by getting drunk. Luckily, I’m not the falling down, yelling, unconscious kind of drinker, but I definitely don’t get anything done. Now today, I feel bad that I didn’t get anything done the last couple of days. Now there could have been much worse consequences. I don’t recommend anyone deal with loss by drinking, it’s a recipe for disaster. However, sometimes a bender just feels so good.

Amazing toys that I don’t want also feel good. Kind of like this Mondo Trap Jaw. Or, the possibly leaked Mandalorian Starfighter. While I love the tractor for the Armada Prime, I definitely do not need it. A Classified Dragon Fly probably would have been needed, but we’ll never know.

While this won’t be my shortest post ever, it’ll be close. I still have to do the show notes for tomorrow’s show. I don’t know how weekly shows do this stuff. While I’ll keep my “deep thoughts” for the next post, I still want to highlight my favorite things from this show.

Joe absolutely killed it this time around. While Snow Job is one of my favorite characters of all time and they did justice to him, the Classified Scrap Iron is a thing of beauty. There were some great reveals at the latest Star Wars Livestream, but I think I gotta give it to the Revenge of Jedi Darth Vader. I’m glad to see the masses will be getting access to an amazing Snake Horde Trooper. However, nothing can touch the Cybertronian Jazz I have been waiting almost 4 decades for.

Hey, I finally made some progress. Not just on my space, but on my new website. I will soon be launching SlickMcFavoriteToys.com. There’s not much to see right now. Just the classic “Hello World” message, but within a couple of days I should be able to start listing things you can buy. I’m still going to post my high-dollar stuff on eBay, but it’ll also be found on my site for about 15% less. I haven’t figured out the shipping thing yet, but most likely going to do an $8 flat rate up to $149 and free after that. We’ll see. I have never done an eCommerce site before so there are still some things to work out. As soon as I have tested everything there will be a big post on the show page and in the group. I might even add a “Shop” link to OpenYourToys.com.

Shopping is one thing I haven’t been doing. However, I have been adding things to my JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out) list like crazy. Including a bunch of canceled pre-orders, I have over 60 toys on there right now. We’ll see if I still want them in a year. Some things I can’t wait to get to buy from this show are as follows. What looks to be a Target Collectors’ Con exclusive, the Python Patrol Crimson Guard is beautiful. I can’t believe I have to wait a year to play with the new Legacy Tarn. I guess I’ll have to settle for my MMC version. Luckily, I had everyone I wanted from the latest wave of Black Series on pre-order. I can’t wait for that Bill Barr, I mean Bill Burr figure. The thing I have the most JOMO about is the Mega Construx Snake Mountain. It’s already down $80 from the list price. If it gets to $200, I might get FOMO instead of JOMO.

I’m doing it my way…Slick

Well, it’s three weeks into the new year and I haven’t done anything in regard to toys except organizing and opening them. What’s crazy is I can vividly remember feeling the same way last year. While I am super busy, I’m not that busy. Why isn’t this getting done? What do I have to do? It just seems like things constantly interfere with my best-laid plans. It’s not a bunch of frivolous things like watching TV or being on my phone. Take yesterday for instance. I went to watch the Chiefs Jaguars game. Now, I had planned on getting my site up and posting my first products. However, I rarely see this friend and he’s going through a tough time right now. So what’s more important?

Here are my most important reveals from this show. For Transformers, the Furai Soundwave. While I cherry-pick ReAction, who doesn’t want Duke with a lightsaber or Snake Eyes with a trident? No Star Wars toy news this time, but I’m loving these Bad batch posters. Finally, Frog Monger sparked our JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) conversation. That still didn’t keep me from ordering three.

I did it my way…Slick

It’s official, it’s a snow day here in Denver. While not officially, because school is actually out right now, it’s enough to go sledding and that’s all that matters to Lil’ Miss McFavorite. While a pretty big pain in the ass, it’s not nearly as bad as going snowboarding. However, it does entail a lot of the same prep. Gotta get all the waterproof gear together, dig out multiple rides from the garage, then get the truck road-ready. Whether going a mile to our local hill or going an hour or more to our local hills, it is all worth it. The joy on a kid’s face as they feel indestructible on what is usually not that soft of snow is amazing. They truly feel like they’re on top of the world.

Depending on how you view it, collectors should be feeling like they’re on top of the world. Have you seen the Classified Checklist? Did you see that over 15,000 people want an obscure Japanese cartoon character? Who wants tiny little stuff like 1:100 scale Star Wars brought back from the ’90s? I do! I can’t even keep up with all of the new Origins and Masterverse, but that’s just Two Bad.

Since I’ve been doing these posts for 14 years now, I sometimes search my own posts to see if I’ve written about something before or possibly used the same title. Lo and behold, I wrote a post six years ago called Procrastination. Interestingly, it was right about this time of year. For the hell of it, I decided to read it. I could have copied and pasted it into this post. Literally, nothing has changed. It’s even spookier if you check out the articles I referenced in the second paragraph. They’re almost identical to recent news (queue spooky music). Don’t take my word for it, check it out, Open Your Toys Cast – Episode 114: Procrastination…

At least this show’s news was a little better. Well, maybe. A lot of people aren’t the biggest fans of these carded Black Series figures. But, I love them, including the next wave of ROTJ figs. At least they give people another chance at some figures they may have missed. If you were like me, you missed the Origins Camo Khan. Let’s hope we get another shot and that great international variant. People had plenty of chances to vote for the Cobra Tacticition. I voted like 5 times 🙂 Glad to see my choice won. Finally, we didn’t think it would happen, but the Death(a)saurus killed it. Not only passing the funding goal, but selling 50% more units in just 14 days.
