More than 2,000 years ago, a man who was struggling with believing that Jesus was who he said he was walked into an empty tomb and saw the evidence that he needed to keep his faith. In the days and years to come, this man, Peter would be tested, beaten, and eventually killed for refusing to deny what he saw and knew was true. Welcome to the third week of our walk through Daniel in our series called The Chase. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are perfect examples of what it looks like to walk through hardship with the Lord by your side. God promises us that he will never leave us during hardships and times of suffering. In fact, He says that He will be even closer than we can imagine. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown in the blazing furnace, God met them there, in their time of hardship, and walked with them through it. While God may not always save us BEFORE the hardship and suffering, He will save us DURING the hardship and suffering.

Because we have an invisible God, we have the opportunity to be utilized by Him to carry out His will in tangible ways to a hurting world, we call it "being God's hands." Lean in this weekend as we see how being there for those we are close to is a wonderful way to be a tangible expression of God's love to them.
This week we learned in Daniel 2 about how Daniel became the hands of God to help advance God in his chase of King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel was the only wise man who was able to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. Why is this? Because God was using Daniel to show Nebuchadnezzar the truth about Him and inch Nebuchadnezzar closer to having a relationship with God. Part of God's ultimate plan is to allow hardships in people's lives so Christians can meet their needs and serve them in God's name. This cycle continually brings the truth about God into people's hearts and lives and help's God in His chase of those who are far from Him.

Some scholars believe that Lucifer and Michael were both archangels. When Lucifer fell, he took 1/3 of God's angel army with him and they were all banished to life on earth. It's because they are all written with the same four essentials: the protagonist, a vital quest, the opposition, and the plot twist of a victorious ending! We are wired to love this outline of a story and to desire to listen to the very end. The story of Jesus is no different. It has the protagonist and quest, and even the plot twist at the end. But do you have the four story essentials in your life? How can you use the story of Jesus and the quest you have been called on to live a life for Jesus? All authority and leadership positions are delegated by God and we are called to respond to leadership in a submissive and respectful way. This can be really tricky if you don’t agree with leadership or feel that there could be better leadership. The Bible says that there are three main ways that we can act towards leaders. We all go through hard times. David did too. Oftentimes these hardships can feel impossible to survive on our own. They feel too big! In this last Sunday of Advent, we talked about God’s Mercy. What a fitting and timely subject to discuss and dive in to as we draw nearer to Christmas day and celebrate the arrival of our Savior. Our God is one of mercy, one who loves us despite all of our sins and always has His arms open for us to run in to. We must remember who we are apart from Jesus - sinners in need of salvation. Take some time this week to praise God for bringing His son to be the light of this world!

We hear the phrase "no pain no gain" in sports a lot - referring to the physical exertion needed to improve performance and skills. But many of us have also experienced emotional or spiritual pain, which has shaped us into who we are today. This weekend we're looking into the topic of God's discipline and you won't want to miss how you can actually be encouraged by it.
Sometimes we experience really hard and challenging times in our lives. God uses hardship and discipline in our lives to help us grow! If we are going to follow Jesus we must love all of God's children. Jesus shows us what true love looks like. This week we tackled the topic of why love is not optional. The Lord’s core desire is that we love like he does, and that we show other people the love that he shows us. Whether that be by providing food, water, shelter, clothing, or caring for them when they are sick and in need, we are called, above all else, to LOVE and show MERCY to everyone around us. By loving other people, we are also showing our love for the Lord.

Ever called to love someone who is... less than perfect? Truth is that ALL of us are imperfect people who are called to find ways to love other imperfect people.
Week four of Revolutionary Love was all about Loving Imperfect People. The Bible tells us that all sin, no matter what the sin is, is equal in God’s eyes. There is not one sin that outweighs another or has more gravity than another. We learned four important truths this week about living imperfect people; sin is serious, we should love sinners, we shouldn’t throw stones, and we have to lead with Christ’s forgiveness. While Christ does not condone sin, he don’t not condemn sinners. Christ meets sin, with grace.

Where does love even come from? Jesus shows us the source of love and how we can experience God's love for us in order to show it to others. In this service, Jeff talked about four ways that we can grow to experience the love of God so we can better love those around us. We can 1) believe God is loving, 2) believe Jesus' loves us, 3) move into the outpouring, and 4) never leave the outpouring. Specifically, we learned that the love we are shown from God is the love that we show to others around us. Jeff used the symbol of a trickling fountain to demonstrate how God loves Jesus, Jesus loves us, and we love others. This is such a powerful message that really teaches us the source of our love.

We're so glad Jesus came to challenge our worldly instincts in saying, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." Welcome to the second sermon in the Revolutionary Love Series! This week, we tackle the subject of how to love our enemies. This is something that is extremely hard to do even when you know exactly what the Bible says about it. In today's sermon, Jeff talks about specific ways we can love our enemies by doing good to, blessing, and praying for those who hate us, curse us, and mistreat us. We learned that by showing love, we start to feel love. One of the big takeaways from this week is that the Bible clearly states that our job as Christians is not to bring justice to those who wrong us and we are not to participate in reciprocal mistreatment. We are called to break the cycle of mistreatment and show kindness and love to our enemies.

Do you realize that there are over 3 billion people around the world who have never heard the Gospel? This weekend we want to shine the spotlight on what The Compass Church is doing to advance the kingdom of God globally. We have invited our partner, Shane Dodzweit from Eagle’s Nest Ministries in Uganda to share his amazing story of life transformation and what God is doing through his ministry.
We're privileged to come alongside Eagle's Nest Ministries as one of our CompassGlobal partners. Eagle’s Nest Ministries works with the extreme poor in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda and regions in Northern Uganda to provide food, clothing, shelter, education and church and community support. The Dodzweit family and their team run a boarding school in Kampala that houses and educates over 700 children and young adults (from pre-school through high school). In addition, they assist refugees from surrounding countries who have suffered under the terrors of conflict and war.

In our series “Whiplash,” we are looking at ways to survive life’s ups and downs. This week we'll be talking about conflict in relationships. Friendships, families, marriages, neighbors, coworkers, teammates... all relationships take work. Join us this weekend as we learn how to be courageous in fighting for healthy relationships in the face of conflict.
In this message, Jeff touched on four points, or principles, that we as Christians can rely on to help us get through relational conflict. These principles will help us to resolve relational conflict in a way that will best protect our hearts and honor what Jesus has taught us about loving people.
1) Beware of rationalization - when we convince ourselves that we only have one good motive but deep down we are being driven by more negative motives. We can’t justify treating people poorly!
2) Show Undeserved Kindness - when it comes to conflict, we often find ourselves wanting to return hostility with more hostility! When people treat us poorly, we have to want to go above and beyond and treat those people with kindness.
3) Establish Necessary Boundaries - evaluate and establish boundaries. There are some people in life who are just unhealthy to have a relationship with. Establishing boundaries protects your heart and soul from the negatives about that relationship.
4) Courageously Convey Affection - when it comes to someone who you have had conflict with, you have to convey your affection! Whether that be hugs and kisses or words, convey the affection you have for them so they know that you care about them. Stepping into expression of affection is key to overcoming conflict with the people you care about.
