THE TYGER
Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terrors clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears And water'd heaven with their tears: Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Epiphoni is joined for this track (and one other) by established organist, Stephen Farr.
This track, Tribus miraculis ornatum, forms part of a larger work, David Bednall's cantata Welcome All Wonders, of which we perform three movements on our debut CD.
Inspired by Thomas Tallis's great 40-part piece, Spem in alium, Epiphoni perform David Bednall's own 40-part masterpiece, Lux orta set iusto
A smaller portion of Epiphoni form a semi-chorus to perform this setting of William Shakespeare's Sonnet 18

Tribus miraculis ornatum, diem sanctum colimus: Hodie stella Magos duxit ad praesepium: Hodie vinum ex aqua factum est ad nuptias: Hodie in Jordane a Joanne Christus baptizari voluit, ut salvaret nos, Alleluia.
We observe this holy day, ornamented with three miracles: Today a star led the Magi to the manger; Today wine was made from water at the wedding; Today in the Jordan Christ desired to be baptised by John, so that He might save us, Alleluia.
