Small GroupsDon’t do life alone!Finding your people can be tough! We understand that finding a group of people who really feel like family can be hard work.
Beyond that, we also know that our greatest moments of spiritual growth come when we are challenged by people care about and who truly care about us.
We encourage you to give one or more of our groups a trial run to see which group might work out best for you.

The following was sent out as a church-wide email at the beginning of March. I’m re-posting it on our website for those who may have missed our Commitment Sunday message or who may not have received the email.
Our Mission & Vision for 2023We’ve had a simple mission for the past number of years: We help people follow Jesus. And we do it one step at a time. We believe that everyone, regardless of spiritual background, upbringing, or current life circumstances has a step of spiritual growth to take. That’s the model we see in Jesus. He would always find people where they were, at whatever point in time he found them, and then he would challenge them to take a step—a step of faith, repentance, commitment, obedience, just one step at a time.
So for 2023, we’re going to focus on building relationships. Relationships are a vital part of helping people follow Jesus. Far too often, Christians just want to shove some bible verses in a non-Christian’s face and then we act surprised when that person doesn’t want anything to do with the church.
John 13 says this: 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
If you just tell a stranger they need Jesus, there’s a good chance they won’t accept it well. But if you make friends and show them the love of Jesus, they’re a lot more likely to accept it.
Our leadership team has been brainstorming ways to encourage relationship-building this year. The monthly social events (game night, axe throwing, craft days, etc.) that we’ve started having are part of this. These events are a great time to get together with your church family outside of a Sunday morning church service and get to know them better. These events are also great opportunities for inviting a friend, neighbor, or co-worker who may never otherwise set foot in a church.
Now don’t get me wrong, our goal is not to turn the church into a social club. We’re still going to be teaching the bible and taking time to worship Jesus. Our Sunday morning service is where we’ve been the strongest the past couple years, and it’s time for us to focus on areas where we haven’t been the strongest.
The stronger our connections and relationships are with each other, the greater our abilities will be to weather the storms of life and be the hands and feet of Jesus. We’ll be better able to notice when someone is hurting or struggling. We’ll be better able to support others, and we’ll notice when someone who has been part of our church family stops coming, so we can reach out and make sure everything’s OK.
Likewise, when someone comes for the first time on a Sunday morning, we want to make sure they feel welcomed and make connections with others in the church. A visitor is much more likely to come back if they make connections during their visit. That’s why we take a few minutes during services to have our weekly discussion question. It’s an easy way to break the ice and start a conversation with someone you don’t already know, and that simple conversation can branch off into something even more meaningful.
We also want to make sure people aren’t falling through the cracks. To help with that, we’ve put together a “follow-up” team, that takes some time during the week to follow-up with visitors and any comments that are left on our Connect Cards. Likewise, they’ll also be taking time to follow-up with people that we haven’t seen for a while, to make sure everything is OK, and see if they have any prayer needs.
But what about outreach amongst the community? After all, our name is“Lafayette Community Church.”
We’ve done several larger community outreach events in the past. Unfortunately, these events require a lot of resources and funds to do them well and be effective. It’s something our leadership team will be evaluating as we go through the year. We definitely want to be involved in the community. However, I also think it can be good to take a bit of a break and focus on strengthening ourselves, so we can be more effective at reaching our community.
Our MembershipLCC does membership differently than most churched. Our membership expires each year, and we ask people to recommit to membership. This year, membership is especially important, as the hiring of a new lead pastor requires a vote from the active members.
If you like what we’re doing around here, and our mission and vision for reaching the community, we’d love to have you join us in membership for the year. If you’re not ready to make that commitment, that’s OK too. You can become a member at anytime throughout the year. Especially if you’re new, we encourage you to take some time and prayer about it. Likewise, you don’t have to be a member to be part of our church family.
If you’re ready to make that commitment, here are the qualifications outlined in our bylaws:
In the past, we had an additional membership covenant that outlined some additional requirements for membership. Our elders and leadership team have decided, especially with the pastoral transition this year, to simplify things. So this year, our membership covenant is simply this:
In agreement with the mission, vision, and governing documents of Lafayette Community Church, I will live in unity with this church for this year.
If you would like to make a commitment to membership this year, you can fill out the online form at https://lafayettecc.org/go/membership2023 or we’ve got paper commitment cards in the auditorium and lobby at the church.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out! Emails sent to office@lafayettecc.org will get forwarded to the proper people, or you can email the Elder team (elders@lafayettecc.org) or treasurer (treasurer@lafayettecc.org). We’re excited for what God has in store for our church this year!
Church Picnic Sunday, May 21stJoin us at Murdock Park on Sunday, May 21st following the morning service for a time of food, fellowship, and fun! The church will be providing hamburgers and hotdogs. Please bring a side or dessert to share.
Pastoral Transition UpdateThank you to everyone who filled out the surveys over the past few weeks. Our team has been going through the results and using those results to further refine the requirements and traits that we’re looking for in our next lead pastor. Our team has another meeting with Converge (our church network) next week to finalize our requirements and move on to the next phase.

How to ContributeWe also know that there is a lot of financial uncertainty in our world today, and we are doing our best to run our operations as lean as possible, but we still need to pay the bills, so if you can, please contribute your financial support in person on Sundays, by mail, or by electronic donations.
Welcome! We’re so glad you have found us. Our whole aim is to help you follow Jesus. Life is complex, but following Jesus doesn’t have to be hard. We want to help you no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.
Membership and VisionLast week we talked about our vision for the year, heard some great stories from others in the church about what their church family has meant to them, and talked about membership. If you weren’t here last week, our audio recording unfortunately didn’t work. Chuck re-recorded the message earlier this week and we hope to have it online soon.
If you would like to sign the membership commitment, we have paper forms in the auditorium near the doors, or you can fill out the online form at https://lafayettecc.org/go/membership2023
If you have any questions about our mission, vision, or anything else, please reach out! You can email office@lafayettecc.org during the week, or catch someone with a nametag on Sunday.

Speaker: Jeff Mikels :: Passage: Various

In times of darkness, it’s hard to see the lights God brings into our lives. There are two lights that we always have no matter what.

2020 has been a year of trials and hardships. Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? In fact, can anything good come from a time so dark?

Every year, LCC runs what we call our “Generosity Project” around Christmastime to encourage the people of our church to embrace a spirit of generosity in the spirit of our savior himself.
This year, we want to kick it up a notch by challenging not only our congregation but also other local congregations to help us knock out One Million Dollars of Indiana medical debt through a partnership with RIP Medical Debt!
RIP Medical Debt is a non-profit organization that exists to purchase unpaid medical debt and then forgive it. For $1, they can purchase and forgive $100 of medical debt, so that means to liberate people in Indiana from $1,000,000 of medical debt, we only need to raise $10,000!
Toward that end, LCC has set aside a fund of $5000 in the form of a matching grant.
Every dollar that is donated to our 2020 Million Dollar Miracle Project will get matched from this fund!
But we don’t want to stop there. We want as many churches to join us as possible, and so we are challenging other churches to follow our lead in creating a matching grant of any size for your people.
Why stop at one million dollars? Can you imagine the boost to our witness if people hear how the churches in Lafayette joined together to eliminate millions of dollars of medical debt for people they don’t even know?
This Christmas, let’s let our light shine!
DONATE NOW
Are you a Church Leader? If you are a leader of a church, we challenge you to join us. Here are three ways you can:
I hope you can join us!
It’s time we learn that we are only heroic when we are sidekicks of the true hero.
Speaker: Jeff Mikels :: Passage: Judges 19-21

Since we opened our Sunday gatherings to people a couple of months ago, we have been asking people to wear masks in our building, and we have had almost no pushback on that front.
Thank you.
I just wanted to take a moment here to say it blesses my heart to know that the people of LCC are willing to make personal sacrifices to help care for others.
Great job!

If you attend live this week, we will not provide communion supplies, but feel free to bring your own juice (no alcohol please) and bread or cracker.

Tippecanoe COVID-19 Stats
This chart is updated daily with a 14-day rolling average of new COVID cases in Tippecanoe County, so the chart will show data from after this post was written.
Although, our daily number of cases seems relatively low, we are still seeing an increase in cases, and therefore, we have decided to keep our worship experiences primarily virtual through the end of 2020.
We are planning to do something cool around Christmas Eve that might be able to get us together in some fashion, but Sunday mornings will stay virtual primarily.
There are a few reasons we are making this decision now:
SAVE MY SEATNone of us expected 2020 to turn out the way it has, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be an effective family together. Please know that you are still loved, that we are still here for you, and that a Sunday morning done virtually doesn’t have to be bad. Tell your friends about our live stream, and join them in a chat or phone call to talk about what you learned or what God said to you through our worship experience… and then live it out all week long!
Oh… and make sure you let us know how we can be praying for you. Our Facebook Group is great for that, and for more private requests, our prayer request form is still active too.
What could have been two messages is put together in this one because too often, we hear the story of Gideon as a hero without flaws… well, that’s not quite true.

Sunday Virtual Gatherings In response to the Coronavirus pandemic our Sunday worship gatherings are primarily online for foreseeable future.
Here are the details:
Pastor Jeff gives more information in an earlier post that you can check out right here.
Service Sunday • September 27 This Sunday, we’re gathering for a shorter worship and “pep talk” type virtual gathering at 10:15am. Then, we’ll all spend some late morning/afternoon time in our own neighborhoods (or join a friend in theirs!) picking up trash, serving neighbors, prayer walking, etc. And finally, from 5-7pm, we’ll be gathering together for a cookout out at the Horstman’s. Bring your own meat for us to grill up for ya, and whatever other sides, dessert, and drink you want. This won’t be potluck style, we won’t be sharing food, but we will certainly grill meat together and fellowship! They’ll have some games set up, like disc golf, soccer goals, and horseshoes. Their address can be found in this private Facebook event, or you can text the office number, at 765-537-8799, for the address and directions.
Service September • All Month Long As Pastor Jeff has said numerous times, we want our church to be known more for our service than for our services, and we want to be known as people who serve more than people who hold events. We’re working on the following service this month:
Matrix LifeCare Center • Move For Life! Matrix LifeCare Center is once again holding their annual fundraiser, but this year, it’s going virtual. That shouldn’t stop us from participating, so Pastor Jeff started a team for the people of LCC! Would you join us? It runs from September 27- October 25. Christmas For Everyone • December 12 We are starting to think about our annual Christmas For Everyone efforts. This year, things are different, so we need some early information regarding who can participate and how many kids we can commit to help.
Would you take a moment to fill out this form and let us know if you can participate this year?
