Whether you are looking at attending yourself or in support of a friend, family member or local community, watching the Mardi Gras Parade or streaming live no matter what side of the fence you sit can be a lot of fun. A couple of things you need to know about World Pride.

When Is the World Pride Festival? The world pride festival is one of the most colourful and creative festivals to come to Sydney, and takes places between Friday 16 February to Sunday 3 March 2024 with the 46th Mardi Gras Parade set to take place Saturday 2nd March between 7.30pm until 11pm

Rachael’s Top Tips for Best Vantage Point1/ Like in real estate Location, Location, Location is key! So plan to arrive early to get the best vantage spot.
2/ When buying a home you want to know the local amenities and facilities available, so ensure you know your go to places to purchase food and water, and toilet stops for the night.
3/Spending long days searching for that perfect home, nobody wants to get “Hangry” in the process, so ensure you carry water and snacks just in case you cannot find a vendor in time, your friends will love you for it.
4/ Similar to our open homes where we want to ensure the safety of our attendees, therefore keep an eye on your friends and belongings and stay together to have a safe and enjoyable night out. Carry only the essentials and avoid bulky items.
5/ Like wandering the streets for hours for the perfect home, it is a must to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, dress for the Mardi Gras Event and weather forecast.

Australia Day is known to celebrate the anniversary of Governor Arthur Phillip raising the Union Jack Flag on Australian soil on 26th January, 1788. Looking for the best places to visit on Australia Day in the Hawkesbury to celebrate together? Only about 1 hour away from Sydney you can discover the Hawkesbury which is a great place to visit for so many reasons.

A considerable amount of people take this special day for the opportunity to reflect and spend time with friends and families at social gatherings, exploring and adventuring. If you are stuck on ideas for Australia Day, I have compiled a short list of popular #livelovelocal activities that locals and tourists love to visit in the Hawkesbury.

because of the sun-drenched landscapes, rivers, bike tracks, cafes, swimming holes and creeks.

  1. Gather the Family and attend Australia Day in Govenor Phillip Park, Windsor between 5:00pm – 9:00pm with MC Farmer Dave, Live Entertainment, Food Trucks, Fireworks displays and so much more. For more information visit, Australia Day on the Hawkesbury | Resources (nsw.gov.au)
  2. Have a BBQ with friends and family.
  3. Take the family to visit a local park such as Howe and Government Parks, Windsor – BBQ facilities – there are also bike riding/walking paths and play equipment
  4. The Perfect Escape – The Award Winning Love Cabins where there is such a choice of accommodation including Wollemi Wilderness Treehouse, Enchanted Cave, Love Cabin, Love Studio, Love Tee Pee, Wollemi House, The Sebel Hawkesbury Resort and Spa and Riverside Oaks Golf Resort.
  5. Bring back the romantic picnic for two – Take a picnic to the picturesque Yarramundi Reserve, Colo River, Hawkesbury River
  6. Enjoy a swim at the Richmond Pool, Richmond or indoors at Hawkesbury Oasis – South Windsor
  7. Off Leash Dog Park – Spoil your pooch and take them to socialise with other pampered pets – Ham and Cox Streets, South Windsor – doggy bags and bins provided with fenced area, Peel Park, Arthur Phillip Drive – doggy bags and bins provided with fenced area, North Richmond, Yarramundi Reserve, Springwood Road, Agnes Banks – this area is not fenced.
  8. Feeling peckish? Enjoy a brunch at one of the local Cafe’s – Bridge Cafe, Simon’s Cafe, Cafe Red
  9. How about coffee? Gloria Jeans, George Street, Windsor; Lime and Coconut Cafe, Windsor
  10. Art Buff or Enthusiast? How about Visiting some great gallleries and studios showcasing photography, best painters and sculptors in our region – try Hawkesbury Regional Museum Windsor, Cobham Hall Museum, Wiseman Ferry Hotel, Kurrajong Radio Museum, Kurrajong Hills Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Windsor (this is also in the same building as the library which is handy),
  11. Journey Back in time to Australia’s history with Australiana Pioneer Village, Wilberforce
  12. Trampolining? Try Planet X Indoor Trampoline Park, Richmond
  13. Visit a Church? St. Matthews Catholic Church (c.1840) Windsor, St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Richmond, Hawkesbury Church – Windsor, Vineyard Church – Vineyard, Uniting Church Ebenezer (1809) – Ebenezer, Uniting Church – Wilberforce, St. James (c.1857) Pitt Town, St. Johns (1859) Wilberforce, St. Marks (1936) Freemans Reach, St. Albans, St. Albans, South Windsor Baptist Church, Sth Windsor,
  14. Ghost Tour? Windsor Ghost Tours get into the spirit of things.
  15. Water skiing and fishing – Hawkesbury River is ideal
  16. Kayaking – Hawkesbury River, Colo and Nepean Rivers and local estuaries
  17. Bike trail – Feeling energetic, try the ride from Windsor to Bella Vista and there are stops along the way including the cafe’s mentioned above. Now I’m not advocating fast food (although I do love a cheeseburger, chips and coke every now and then ) however if you feel like balancing the good with the not so good there are also fast food chains like McDonalds, KFC…after you deserve a little reward.
  18. Catch up with friends for a beverage in a local pubs like Macquarie Arms Hotel, Bird in the Hand Inn, Wisemans Inn Hotel, The Heritage Hotel, Clarendon Tavern, Fitzroy Hotel, The Richmond Inn, The Royal Hotel Richmond, RG McGees.
  19. Catch an afternoon nap? How long has it been since you took 1/2 hr out of your busy day to simply sit under a tree or on a grassy patch of ground to reconnect, gather your thoughts or catch up on some power Zzzs.
  20. Decorate your home or office or puppy dog to get into the fun of the Australian Them.

Australians are set to embrace the first Driveway Dawn Service and whilst we are in isolation, now more than ever, it is important to keep the ANZAC spirit alive.

Towards that aim, Australians are encouraged to “Light up the Dawn” in their driveways this Anzac Day. “Lots we can do together, just at a safe distance”, says Editor Justin Lees, of Anzac 360.

ANZAC is a day to commemorate our diggers and whilst services have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus we all look to new ways to commemorate this very important day for Australians and New Zealand Army Corps.

RSL NSW has offered some suggestions for ANZAC Day:-

  1. “Record yourself reciting the ode or sharing a message of support for veterans #ANZACSpirit https://www.facebook.com/events/1369894726549555/
  2. Light up the dawn – At 6am on ANZAC Day, go to the end of your driveway or stand on your balcony and listen to a brief commemorative service http://rslanzacspirt.com.au
  3. Tune into live commemorative services on ABC at 5:30am – download the order of service here both services will be streamed live.” #ANZACSpirit

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down

of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them”.

“These very famous words are just a part of a poem by Laurence Binyon 1869-1943 that he called The Fallen. It was first published in the Times newspaper on 21 September 1914. As this was very early in the war, it was written as a reaction to the high casualty rates of the British Expeditionary Force at Mons and Le Cateau, but the four famous lines have now taken an existence of their own that apply to all war casualties.”

Lest we forget.

Is there an Anzac Day public holiday in 2020? ANZAC Day in 2020 will fall on a Saturday. “The Public Holidays Act 2010 names ANZAC Day to be observed with a public holiday on 25 April.

“Australians love their public holidays and when they happen to fall on the weekend, we’re grateful when we get the Monday off as a substitute. One of the more sombre public holidays is ANZAC Day and in 2020, it falls on a Saturday.

Only two states and territories (Western Australia and ACT) will be getting replacement days this year, meaning most of us will need to be back at work on a Monday.”

And what we can do to change that… According to a U.S. News & World Report, a reported 80% of people who make New Year Resolutions apparently had given up by the end of January before even coming close to reaching their resolution.

And you know what is even more interesting, the old school of thought was it took 21 days to form a habit and change our ways. New research published in the European Journal of Social Psychology by Phillippa Lally Health Psychology Researcher at University College London said not so, and the true timeline is that it takes approximately twice as long as that to form a habit. 66 days long to form a new habit – therefore we are always going to be chasing unicorns and rainbows unless we turn the tide on this debate.

Solution… I think we often overestimate what we as people can achieve in an hour, a day or even a week in comparison to what we can achieve in a year, 3 years or even 5 years.

Over the years, I have come to realise as much as we want, not every day can be filled with rainbows and unicorns, we need to pace ourselves. Therefore, I compiled a list of life thoughts (as listed below) and what I found help me move through each year with more of a spring in my step, and I hope you too find some inspiration in these quotes too.

My suggestion is you use one point per week, and focus simply on this thought, or transform the quote to life practice, whatever that may look like for you.

I would love to hear the new opportunities that you discover as a result. Email me at rachael@rachaelgoldsworthy.com.au or call my office on (02) 45779964, please let me know if you need anything, always happy to help.

All the best for a Powerful New Decade.

Rachael’s 52 Tips for a Powerful New Decade – 2020 1. Realise that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra classes, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime. 2. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. While you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant. 3. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. If you have to, buy a lock. 4. Buy a TIVO or similar recording device and record your late-night shows… get more sleep. 5. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, “My intention today is to __________.” 6. Live with the 3 E’s – Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy. 7. Watch more movies, play more games and read more books than you did in 2019. 8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. 15. Smile and laugh more. 16. Acknowledge that life isn’t fair, but it’s still good. 17. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone, make amends and enjoy life together. 18. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 19. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 20. Make peace with your past, so it won’t spoil the present. 21. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 22. Burn candles, use the nice sheets and wear good lingerie, use the good cutlery and crockery sets. Don’t save them for a special occasion. Today is special. 23. No-one is in charge of your happiness except you. 24. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years will this matter?” 25. Forgive everyone everything. 26. What other people think of you is none of your business. 27. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time. 28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 29. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will. Stay in touch. 30. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful. 31. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. 32. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. 33. Call your Mother and Father often, it might just make their day. 34. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: “I am thankful for __________.” “Today I accomplished _________.” 35. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed. 36. Treat others as you would like to be treated. 37. Be the world that you would like to live in. 38. Dr Seuss was ahead of his time “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”. 39. Talk less, listen more. 42. Follow your intuition. It is usually right. 43. The early bird catches the worm so early to bed, early to rise. 44. Spend less than you earn. 45. Never worry about the future. It will come soon enough. 46. In the end, it is not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years. 47. You never know which day is going to be your last. Make the most of everyone you are given. 48. Live as if you only have today, dream as if you have forever. 49. Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disneyland and you certainly don’t want a fast pass. 50. After the curtain was pulled back, the greatest potential to find courage, heart, understanding & home, must come from within more than some magnificent want waved upon you – The Wizard of Oz 51. It’s not what we have in life, but who we have in life that matters most. 52. Remember, the best is yet to come.
