Today I interview 12 very bright 5th grade students along with their teacher sponsor, Mrs. Wackerly, from Sunflower Elementary School in Andover, KS.

This group is very special to me because our son was asked to be part of this club and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the kids and their parents. Do you think your kids school could learn from this club's hard work? Take a listen and leave your comments!

Timestamp:

3:10 Meet Joelle, Molly, Kenleigh, and Reese
7:32 Meet Gavin, Creighton, Dylan, and Auggie
13:56 Meet Maddie, Alice, Ryan, and Christopher

Mrs. Wackerly Questions:

How did the entrepreneur club start?

Who did you speak with in Andover school district or to school to get the ball rolling?

How did you select the kids for your pilot program year?

Kids Questions:

Were you more drawn to the business side or the creative side of the process (did ya like the money or creating t-shirts and logos)?

What has been the most rewarding part of creating the business? (talking to friends in the morning, being a leader, taking money to Ronald McDonald house...)

How do you like being a leader at your school? Do you think others watch how you act and look up to you?

Meet Melissa: With an eye for style and a heart for gracious hospitality, Melissa loves creating beautiful candles that can transform your space with a simple, yet elegant touch. Melissa uses her unique process of hand-gold leafing and hand-pouring her candles to create luxurious, fragrant, and clean-burning candles that fill your home with a warm glow.

Launching a line of candles was never really in Melissa’s plans. She’s learned over the years; however, that the best things in life aren’t always the ones in which you’ve planned. Since 2012, candle-making had been her hobby and creative outlet. Through local and regional pop-up shops and markets, the popularity of her candles grew, and so did her love for the working in the creative, maker community in the South. As her collections became more popular, particularly her gold-leaf collections, she officially launched Melissa Warnke Candles in 2020.

A native of Cullman, Alabama, she graduated from Auburn University and has lived in Montgomery since 2010. She has two daughters, ages 4 and 6, is an avid tennis player, and works full-time as a Director of Communications.

It has been a year since Grounded, a podcast by Inspiring Thyme launched. We started as a place to share stories as a couple living the military lifestyle. Life happened, and I saw a need to share more stories about trials and successes from women small business owners. Once again we adapted, tailored and kept moving forward. This podcast has really become a place to share stories to connect us as humans to a community.

We have learned, as we move from town to town, that the faster we can connect to the community the better we feel like we are "home". We want to share that experience with you!

Hi I am Amber, the founder of Grounded, a podcast by Inspiring Thyme. Listen as I share how I got this whole thing started and continue to move forward with the future in mind.

Cheers!

Memories help us craft the life we are currently living. Joining me today is Tammy Magnuson. We met just a few short weeks ago and quickly found we had information we could offer each other’s audiences on living your best most beautiful life. Today she dives into memories and using visualization to focus on the positive thoughts of these experiences. She even goes so far as to say, “make sure everyone in the memory is smiling.” Forgiving a “bad” memory is basically not giving it the right to rule our present thoughts. What a fun conversation. How do you navigate shame? What is shame? How do you have resilience and keep living fully? These are all questions we discuss today on the podcast with Melanie Bledsoe certified life coach with JRNI, virtual entrepreneur, and co-founder of The Red Bow Project.

(a community for single moms, blended families and so much more)

4:25 What is shame? Brene Brown’s definition

5:25 Shame makes you feel flawed and small

5:42 Shame spirals

7:22 What does shame look like? Shame triggers (social media, body image issues, happy families, women who can do all things)

8:45 We are raised in a society where women should do it all

11:33 Social media “skim coats” real life, giving it the perfect filter

12:00 What is your most passionate topic to connect with women on?

12:55 Shame is when you sit in secrecy, silence and judgements – this causes tremendous anxiety

14:25 Description of lantern – it is a person that will not judge you but meet you with empathic listening ears

15:30 Real “lanterns” who up for you during the hard times in your life

17:17 Brene Brown’s imagery for shame is vivid –

25:08 Be a lantern for your child

28:30 When is a good time to contact a coach to set your goals?

29:43 Coaching is about setting goals

Exercise to start building shame resilience:

  1. Who do you become when you are backed into a shame corner?

  2. How do you protect yourself?

  3. Who do you call to work through the mean-nasties or the cry and hides or people pleasing?

  4. What is the most courageous thing you could do for yourself when you feel small and hurt?

Welcome! Do you ever feel like life is just a little too much. Like you are having to hold on way to tight and all the colors are swirling quickly to the left and right of you?

In a holiday season that seems to be in overdrive Christopher and I just want to share that it is okay to simply stop. In those moments of strumming your fingers on the steering wheel and waiting for 20 minutes in a check out line, take a moment to breathe and find the joy.

Life is short and deciding to snuggle up under blankets and watch HGTV while the world flies by, that is okay. Enjoying a supper you prepared and enjoyed together as a family is a great accomplishment in the world we live in.

Choose to breathe today, in and out, close your eyes and let the sounds of the season gently lift your spirit.

Don't forget to like and comment on your favorite podcast platform.
Friday conversation is all about serving others but most importantly, serving yourself. Cheers to a beautiful week.

What is in my cup?

Coconut oil and protein powder. The “good fat” from the oil helps jump start your matbolism for the day and the protein powder help suppress your appetite.

Fan mail: Do you have a coffee roaster in your area? We would love to sample their beans, give them a shout out and some free publicity. Shoot me a message or comment on where to send the beans.

My success and celebration for the day! I finished my results list! It was long, there were things I did not want to do, but I did it! I “Ate my frog” and it felt amazing!

TIP: Do not forget to celebrate your successes!

Outdoor decorations are hung. It was not like the Hallmark movies with a snowball fight and pretty music playing. The lights were tangled, it was hot, but it looks great. Life is messy!! Roll with it!

Indoor decorations: Still have boxes out but it is beginning to look warm and festive.

Challenge: Pick 5 holiday traditions you must have to make the season feel “right”. Write them down, give them a date to happen, and then elevate the experience! It will be worth it!

When you make a plan you live more intentionally and the final product looks even more special.

Friday Conversation: New author and small business woman Ashleigh Walters is going to share how she makes her dreams realities. You are not going to miss this conversation.

Living a “childish” holiday. Today Emma-Catherine, our daughter, pops on to share her thoughts on holiday traditions. Each holiday brings new memories, but listening to our children share their favorite moments always makes me so happy. There is always joy in their voices as they light up with glee chatting about what their must do list is.

What is in Emma-Catherine’s cup? Hot tea, we love this stuff around the holidays – a boost of Vitamin C and all the warm spices of the holiday.

Favorite baked goods around here? Sausage balls, sugar cookies with extra sugar, peanut butter balls aka homemade Reeces Cups.

Our Elf on the Shelf, Happy, makes his appearance every year on December 1st. Hopefully COVID did not kill him off. He brings a hot chocolate bar for the kids to warm up too after school along with a gingerbread house for them to construct!

He is a good elf, and he doesn’t make messes for me to clean up! He does like high adventure activities like zip lining and parachuting in underwear.

Decorating means more hot tea, opening boxes to reveal holiday memories, listening to holiday music and watching a Christmas flick.

Leave us what you like to do! We love new ideas this time of year!

The holidays are HERE! We have just a few short days until Thanksgiving and just a few weeks until Christmas!
This holiday season is already in full swing and it is just not the same rhythm as years past. Thanksgiving may or may not be happening with the whole family and maybe all the travel plans have changed. Guess what, we are all in the same boat. Let's choose to focus on what we can control, like gifting our time and service to others.

Christopher and I talk all things gifting. We spent the weekend together, talking, laughing and organizing. We purchased a tool chest that is already making our lives more organized and less stressed. Plus, we can actually function with more ease when it comes to outdoor needs.

What traditions can you create this year if your holiday isn't going to look the same? Maybe send gratitude cards to family members, host a Zoom Thanksgiving, lift a toast at a certain time? We would love to hear your plans. Leave them in the comments!

What's in your cup? Carmel Nut Creme from Smoky Mountain Roasters in Waynesville, NC

Part II

:10 What has your garden taught you?

1:33 Experiment

4:03 Tip: Start Small

7:26 Once you start you won’t be able to stop

8:12 – Herbs: spice of life

8:31 – Difficulty of growing plants

10:08 – Finding your garden community

15:20 Favorite Gardening Books

16:11 Favorite Seed Catalogs

17:40 – Diana Polcar IG @mistyridgegardens

Ingredients

for 4 servings

  • 2 small acorn squashes, or 1 large
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • ½ lb sausage
  • 1 apple, chopped
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese

Preparation

  1. Using a sharp knife cut off the very top and bottom of each squash to create a flat base on each side (being careful not to cut through the center cavity).
  2. Slice the squash in half, scrape out seeds to create individual bowls for the stuffing.
  3. Drizzle each squash half with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Roast in a preheated oven at 400˚F (200˚C) for 40-50 minutes - or until fork tender.
  5. While squash is roasting - in a large fry pan over medium heat - heat oil and add Onion, Celery, Salt, Pepper, and Rosemary. Cook until onions begin to soften.
  6. Add Garlic and Sausage, until sausage is browned on all sides.
  7. Add Apple until slightly softened. Finally mix in Bread Crumbs and Parmesan cheese just until incorporated. Remove from heat.
  8. Once Squash has finished roasting (when you can easily poke it with a fork) remove from oven and fill each with prepared stuffing mixture.
  9. Return to Oven for 20 minutes - adding a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese to the top for the final 5 minutes.
  10. Enjoy!

Life has everyone feeling a little blah here lately. Here is a short message to hopefully lift your spirits. Celebrating life boldly and full of color is key to 2020. Take a yearly life celebration and go big.

At the beginning of October is our son's birthday. Both kids love having big celebrations and of course this year has made it to where we need to think outside of the box when making life memories! Even though we were limited on what we could do, we were not limited on how big we celebrated him.

Harry Potter made the perfect theme for flying high and powering through. We laughed and watched how making him the center of attention for the day made him glow too. Celebrate life and watch others appreciate the moment too.

Check out the blog, Inspiring Thyme.

Life can be challenging especially when you are a home owner, but today we wanted to share some tips on how we get ready for the cooler weather.

Yes we are drinking coffee, but black coffee seems bland compared to Pumpkin Spice and everything nice. Frappes are fun but filled with sugar and super high in fat content...a little look into my college years as a barista.

The blog also offers more decorating tips for the fall season. Jump over to the blog to see what new inspiration you can gather. www.inspiringthyme.com New wreaths, mantle ideas, table setting and kitchen touches will be what you find.

Coming Friday, a new conversation with my dear friend Susan Stout who is a commerical architect. She leads us through how to get your new home office personalized for your needs and how being a mom, wife and entrepreneur can and will work.

Enjoy all the fun across my social media platforms. See you there.

Join the first Friday conversation. Genevieve Nicholas is joining me on the mic today to share her business as a life and business coach. But what does that mean? She has spent several years in entrepreneurial fields where she has learned that the next big step is to dream big, work hard, but have the right mindset.

Have you been wrestling with big questions about your career? Having a coach helps you sort through the questions that are pressing right now, to help you navigate from Point A to your Point B.

Making human connections being an entrepreneur is key. That is what today is all about, making connections that will help you along your life’s path.

We discuss several topics:

· Passion for your dream

· Being a leader

· Vision Boards

· Journaling tips and topics (23:50)

4 Questions

Set a 15-minute timer

  1. What is the definition of being stuck to you?

  2. What has you feeling stuck?

  3. How is it holding you back?

  4. If I were living my dream life what does that look like?

Unstuck You Cocktail (31:00)

2 oz vodka

3 oz cranberry

Squeeze of lime

Basil

Enjoy responsibly.

We suggest you find a quiet nook, a relaxing beverage, a pen, journal and a little perspective. These are the tools you need to start your new path.

In a time of chaos and pandemic it is wise to remember the only thing you can control is yourself.

What's Brewing:
We love black coffee! Trader Joe's is our favorite go-to right now.

  • Control your body:

What you feed it and how you make time to keep it in shape. (Dan John is name Christopher threw out.)

  • Control your home and yard/porch:

Take this time to fix up a spot in your home. Let your inner feelings reflect in your space.
Yard time is our favorite. Bring bright colors and tidy up areas that need some love.

  • Control your thoughts:

Positive thoughts help motivate your day.

Work Hard.
Be Kind.
Take Pride.

Flowers and gardens have always helped us "complete" the feel of home. It is like the finishing touches on perfecting that one project. We know when the gardening starts to happen that is the icing on the cake.

Today we talked through the houses and cities we have lived in to help you understand how to "fluff" your "nature" space. To us, sitting outside, and enjoying the sweat and labor we have invested in our space makes sipping happy hour cocktails even more special!

The blog has more on the topic of how to get started planning your space. And of course, I am putting some photos up to depict our previous attempts. Take a few minutes to enjoy our experiences and be inspired!

We are back on the food topic today and having a blast talking about memories and how we view food.

Not only do we love eating, but we love sharing with family and friends. Not to mention how we have traditions for our immediate family with food. What memories do aromas make you feel? We enjoy creating a whole event around the food and senses.

The blog has a bit more on the matter, so join me there.  Take a few minutes to enjoy "feeling" and listening to our stories.

In this episode we chat about how moving into a home can be challenging. From when the big truck shows up to all the things you did not realize you hoard!

You would think prior to boxing up all your household goods would be the time to throw out but it is a chore for both sides of the boxing.  Throw out unwanteds, period, but once you move in to the new house you will need to get rid of the things that don't work in the new spaces too.

We have moved seven times in thirteen years, and we have collected a ton of stuff. Some things are a must keep but others we are realizing aren't as important anymore, especially if those items are never even taken out of a box.

The big take away, enjoy your possessions, but do not have so many that you can't enjoy each fully.

The military moving adventures continue.
We are camping in our house waiting on our household goods to be delivered, July 16th (hopefully).

Not only do we not have our things, we do not have internet or cable.

We started our garden plot and Square Foot Gardening is our favorite resource.  Check it out here.
Here is the blog post link for Misty Ridge Gardens, there are several, so check them all out!

By the way, we do not own a 55 gallon cooler, it is 55 quart?

The griddle we purchased is wonderful. Here is the link for it too! Blackstone Griddle 36"

I am flying solo on this bonus episode, giving you some of my most useful tips on moving. Being a military family, we move almost every 2 years, but in the past 2 years we have moved to 3 different states.
Stay organized.
Look for the positive.
And MOVE ON.

The wet vac I was referring to can be found at here, Tineco. I love this handy tool! We use it almost everyday and with a self cleaning option it can't be beat for quick clean-ups.

Welcome to Inspiring Thyme the podcast: Grounded. My name is Amber and my husband is Christopher. Nice to meet you! This whole concept started with a little seed almost thirteen years ago in our kitchen. We have played around with ways to share our passions for years, but we just couldn't commit to the work we knew we would want to pour in, to do it right. Last year, I started a blog to share content about: hospitality, floral design, beauty tips, healthy living, and personal growth. That was a start, but now it is time to dive even deeper with Christopher by my side. What should you expect in the upcoming episodes? Well...:

  • Military family lifestyle
  • Hospitality
  • Entertaining
  • The Dead Animal Chronicles and grilling tips
  • Gardening
  • Marriage and Kids

So Cheers! We hope to meet you real soon.
