COVID Vaccine Travel Requirements

Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel. Get the latest COVID travel information and find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!

In this episode, I’ll give you info on what countries will require COVID vaccination, why cruise lines will require the vaccine and if you’ll need to get a vaccine for traveling inside the United States.

When Should You get a COVID Travel Vaccine?

Based on the CDC website, "You should make an appointment with a travel medicine specialist or your health care provider ideally at least a month before your trip to get needed vaccines and medicines. Even if you're a last-minute traveler, there may be options for getting the vaccines and medicines you need."

"If you need a yellow fever vaccine, keep in mind that it is currently available only at a limited number of clinics in theUnited States. The nearest yellow fever vaccination clinic may be some distance away from where you live, and appointments may be limited. Find the nearest clinic and contact it ahead of time to make sure it has the vaccine."

CDC does not recommend getting travel vaccines in another country because:

  • Most vaccines need to be administered ahead of time to give you complete protection against disease.
  • Vaccines available in other countries may differ from those used in the United States and may be less effective.
  • If you're concerned about the cost of travel vaccines and medicines, check to see if your city or county health department has a travel medicine clinic. It may cost less to visit a doctor there than to go to a private doctor.

Wearing a Mask Even if You’re Vaccinated

Even though I’m vaccinated, it’s not 100% reliable, and there are now three to four different strains of COVID floating about. Since I want to be healthy and safe to travel, I still always wear my mask at home and when traveling to err on the side of caution.

“Vaccinated people will need to follow mask-wearing and safe social-distancing recommendations in public, at least until we reach the herd immunity magic number, which is around 196 million individuals in the U.S.,” says WorkCare’s Harris. The CDC has loosened restrictions for vaccinated individuals in some social settings, mainly outdoors without a large crowd.

Another reason we’ll want everyone to keep wearing masks and take other precautions for the near future, adds Harris: “We don’t want a subsegment of the population walking around without masks in a setting that requires masks to be worn. That’s just such an awkward precedent for the remainder of individuals who don’t have access to vaccinations at this point in time.”

COVID-19 Travel Passport Apps

There’s been talk about mandating a COVID passport, which would note whether an individual has a negative COVID test and if they are vaccinated. While people were rejecting this idea at first, now it’s catching on, and many of the airlines and cruise lines support using a system where people can keep their COVID records electronically and be able to pull them up for proof of verification while traveling. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that “Anything is on the table. Anything is possible, of course.”

The International Air Transport Association is developing a health app. The IATA Travel Pass will allow travelers to store test and vaccination results on their mobile devices. More than a dozen international airlines are testing this new app for use this summer.

CLEAR is collaborating with the creators of CommonPass, developed by the nonprofit Commons Project and the World Economic Forum. This new app will establish a registry of trusted health care providers and a standard format for reporting results. Passengers will be able to take a COVID-19 test at home, send their test to a lab, and have their products uploaded to the CommonPass app. A QR code certifying that they’re clear for entry will be scanned upon their arrival. Eventually, it can and presumably be used to upload vaccination status, serving as an immunity passport.

Although domestic flights aren’t looking at using this app, many international flights consider this option as a health check for travel passengers. And while a COVID-19 vaccination may not be required to board domestic flights, Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian said this type of screening may be exclusive to international travel, “whether the airlines do it or international authorities do it.”

States Requiring COVID Vaccination for Travel

Individual states could require visitors to be vaccinated for COVID-19; in the same way, they need public school students to show proof of vaccinations for certain diseases. Healthcare professionals consider it likely this will be the case, even though it’s going to be a state-by-state process. Some states will elect to mandate vaccinations and proof of immunization.

The public appears to support such requirements: A survey of 2,415 adults by The Points Guy found that two-thirds, 67% of people who are already vaccinated and have a desire to travel, say they are more likely to travel to a destination or with a provider that requires a vaccine passport.

Cruise Lines Requiring Vaccines for Travel

The CDC wants cruise lines to have adequate safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 before they are cleared for travel. Several lines have required that all passengers be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Crystal Cruises requires that everyone aboard is fully vaccinated for at least two weeks before departure, with no exceptions. “At this time, we are unable to accommodate any guest who cannot be vaccinated,” stated on their website.

American Queen, known for its trips along the Mississippi River, has also declared that all passengers and crew members will need to have been vaccinated for COVID-19. They’ll also need to be tested for the virus before departure. The British tour company Saga announced that travelers will need to have been vaccinated at least 14 days before cruising.

National Park Adventures with Rob Roy from The Adventure Bound Podcast

Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. In this episode, I've got Rob Roy from Adventure Bound Podcast. Rob is an active-duty Navy Pilot who recently discovered a passion for the outdoors. Rob and his wife made it a goal to take their firstborn son to 12 National Parks before he turned 12 months old. We chat about National Parks, what they are, how we discovered National Parks, and why you want to visit them!

Zion National Park is a favorite of Rob as this was the first park where he discovered the National Parks. "When we went to Zion I didn't know what it was." Rob visited Zion for a friend's wedding, which helped him understand the National Park System. He loved the greens, trees, and the terrain that results from the mix of desert and precipitation forming the trees against the stunning red rock.

Before he moved to Seattle, he and his wife took west to Washington State to see the Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, and the North Cascades. Out of all the National Parks he's visited, Rob says the wow factor is the best at The North Cascades National Park. "When you're talking about unspoiled, rugged beauty, there's no place like it." Since their original trip, they now live closer, although they would have to make a weekend trip with the three-hour drive to get there.

Listen in to find out why Rob loves National Parks, upcoming travels he has planned, and the one dozen National Parks he and his family went to in the year following his son's birth. Find out Rob's tips for visiting National Parks and why he uses the Outbound App when traveling.

Learn what you have to do when buying tickets and making reservations for parks, restaurants and hotels. Find out how you can enjoy DisneyWorld and accommodations Disney has available if you're traveling with a disability.

Creating a Disney Account Online

If you're planning on going to Disney, you'll first want to open a Disney account for yourself online https://disneyworld.disney.go.com Next, create an account for each person in your party, then link people who are traveling with you. If someone in your travel group already has an account, do not create another account for them. Simply email them an invitation to join your group!

There are several advantages to booking and staying at a Disney hotel. From the free shuttles to Disney restaurants where you can get safe food if you are gluten-free and consistently excellent quality of service and rooms, Disney is tough to beat when you are looking for a stress-free place to stay and have fun, especially if you have a disability.

Disney Know Before You Go COVID Travel Update

First, you must reserve your time at any one of the four Disney theme parks that are currently open through the Disney Park Pass Reservation System. “To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date are required for each person in your party ages three and up (limit one park per day Disney is controlling the number of people in the park to maintain social distancing).”

FastPass+ service is suspended as they are using additional queue space to control capacity and maintain physical distancing. We will automatically cancel existing FastPass+ selections and share any future updates on the service at a later date.

There are selected resorts Disney has opened to guests. Disney Springs shopping opened in June. Remember that COVID is changing Disney’s offerings, so make sure to check their website for more information.

Make sure to view Disney’s new COVID precautions page before you make reservations to the park. Here is a summary of precautions Disney is taking to keep everyone safe:

  • Mandatory use of face masks
  • Sanitizing rides
  • Seating guests six feet apart
  • Hand washing stations located throughout the park
  • Physical and social distancing
  • Modified experiences
  • Temperature screenings are mandated at areas throughout the park

Disney’s disclaimer: “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and Guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.”

In addition, Delta is now offering new travel digital resources for trip planning, including an interactive travel map to help you plan your next vacation.

Delta Opening Up Middle Row Seat for Passengers

“While Delta’s decision to block middle seats has given many customers a reason to choose Delta over the past year, the signature hospitality of our employees and the experiences they deliver to customers every day have also deepened their trust in our airline,” said Bastian. “The relationships we’ve built, together with the knowledge that nearly 65 percent of those who flew Delta in 2019 anticipate having at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by May 1, are what’s giving us the assurance to offer customers the ability to choose any seat on our aircraft, while also introducing new services, products and rewards to support the journey. We take great pride in the trust we’ve built with customers by listening and delivering on what they said was most important, and that is the approach you can continue to expect.”

New Delta Digital Resources for Trip Planning

Delta is launching new digital resources to make travel planning easier, including an interactive map that is searchable by price and destination type; offering SkyMiles Members the ability to earn up to 75 percent more toward Medallion Status on most ticket types, including Award Travel, in a first for the industry; reintroducing onboard snacks and beverages; and extending the validity of all tickets expiring in 2021 – as well as all new tickets purchased this year – through the end of 2022.

“Our customers have always been the voices that guide us at Delta, and that was amplified during the pandemic,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “During the past year, we transformed our service to ensure their health, safety, convenience and comfort during their travels. Now, with vaccinations becoming more widespread and confidence in travel rising, we’re ready to help customers reclaim their lives.”

Fun Things to Do in Kanab, UT

Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel. Get the latest COVID travel information and find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!

In this episode, I’m giving you the 411 on fun things to do in Kanab, Utah! You may not have heard about Kanab, but if you are an outdoor enthusiast, Kanab is a best-kept secret for outdoor fun! With so many slot canyons, hiking trails, and beautiful landscapes, Kanab is a great place to go if you love the outdoors minus lots of crowds.

Balloons and Tunes Roundup Hot Air Balloon Festival in Kanab

For a fun and exciting event, check out Balloons and Tunes Roundup! Held the third weekend in February, Balloons and Tunes Roundup features an outdoor market, festival, and, of course, hot air balloons. Get amazing pictures of these beautiful aviators flying through the Utah blue sky against the red rock of southern Utah, talk to balloon owners and enjoy the excitement of watching hot air balloons travel in the sky.

Outdoor Activity Hiking in Kanab Utah

Dinosaur Tracks hike is 2.9 miles north on 89, hike out through the trail up to the plateau and see real ancient dinosaur tracks of dinosaurs who once roamed across this land millions of years ago! See images of these on my Instagram.

The Wave is one of the most famous photographed hikes with gorgeous strips of red rock hills everywhere! To take this amazing hike, you’ll need to attend the lottery to get a permit to hike The Wave. Definitely obtain a permit as rangers are there to patrol, and the fine is $100,000 for illegal hiking as this is an environmentally sensitive area. The drawing for The Wave permit occurs at 9 a.m. (arrive by 8:30 to fill out an application). If a permit is won, it will be for the following day. In the winter months, the Grand Staircase Office draws for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday’s permits on Friday.

If you miss the Wave permit, check out White Pocket slot canyons. While you’ll need an ATV to get into hike White Pocket is a great alternative that doesn’t require a permit. With either location, we recommend hiring a local guide. You can get there on highway 89 mile marker 01.

Another amazing slot canyon to hike in Kanab is Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon. Head north 8.1 miles on 89. Make a right (road not labeled) onto the turnoff for the Peek-a-boo trailhead. Three miles of dry wash after paved highway. We hired a guide and went canyoneering, which was a blast!

The Toadstools is an easy 1.5-mile hike each way with scenery that looks like you've landed on another planet! Take highway 89 east to milepost 20. Slow down to look for the trailhead as it's right off the road but can be easily missed when traveling at highway speed.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes is a great family-friendly Utah state park where you can get beautiful photographs of Utah sand dunes. Avoid going there in the summer heat!

Squaw Trailhead is a local Kanab hike that is located behind Jacob Hamlin Park. Nice view of the city and red rock from the top of the trail.

Gluten Free Restaurants in Kanab, Utah

There are four restaurants that I would highly recommend visiting when you are in Kanab! First, Vermillion 45 is the only French restaurant in downtown Kanab but is the best French restaurant I’ve been to in the US and has all their gluten-free offerings labeled. Wild Thyme Cafe has excellent American fare and many gluten-free offerings. They have several vegetarian and vegan dishes as well! Rocking V Cafe offers sandwiches and a good selection of gluten-free offerings for the entire family.

Peekaboo Canyon Wood Fired Kitchen has amazing gluten-free wood-fired pizzas and incredible gluten-free desserts that you will absolutely love!

The Guide to Traveling Gluten Free

Are you anxious about traveling with Celiacs Disease? Does the thought of getting sick on vacation worry you to no end? Unsure of what travel options are safe and how to choose a safe restaurant away from home for you and your children?

The Guide to Traveling Gluten Free will walk you through the process of planning and enjoying your next gluten-free travel adventure! Take the guesswork out of how to travel, where to go, and how to eat safely when you follow the information in my guide. COVID Travel Update Moab, Utah is Open for Visitors

Listen to travel agents who give you inside information on their favorite vacation places, where to go, what to see, and the best places to stay when you vacation around the world.

Find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!

Moab, Utah is open for outdoor adventure and you’ll never find a better time to go to this outdoor world of fun! In this episode, you’ll find out what my favorite things are to do in Moab if you’re looking for a fun outdoor adventure and why this is the best time to visit the wild outdoors of Moab.

Stop at Moab Information Center

First, stop at Moab Information Center and pick up a self-guided tour brochure. It’s a small tri-fold black and white brochure that’s packed full of all the tours the tour companies take you on, except that it’s free because you get to do it yourself and stop as long as you want at the different sites! Pick up a Moab Guest Guide for information and local maps on what to do. You can find these for free at any of the magazine stands in town. I picked up my copy at Denny’s.

Museums in Moab

Moab Museum

In 1957, a group of civic leaders began to plan for a city museum and in February 1958 the museum was incorporated as the Southeastern Utah Society of Arts and Science. Housed in a County building on Center Street, the private archeological collections from Dr. J.W. “Doc” Williams and Ross Musselman provided objects for initial exhibits, with more donations provided by citizens. During its first 14 months the museum hosted more than 6000 visitors. Find out about past rich in geological change, paleontological remnants and a human history that stretched from prehistoric cultures to Mormon pioneer families to out-of-town investors and miners with families. Spend an hour finding out how Moab came to be the town it is today in it’s 150 year history.

Moab Giants Paleo Safari Dinosaur Park and Museum

“Not only is it set amongst some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery in Moab, Utah, but it’s a unique experience of the ages. Make your own tracks alongside our state-of the art, life-size dinosaurs in the land they called home! Moab Giants is the ultimate place to discover the past with cutting edge technology that feels like the future! Visit the newest dinosaur museum in Utah!”

Hole N” the Rock Roadside Attraction

Visit Hole N” the Rock, a most unique home, carved out of a huge rock in Utah’s Canyonlands Country. This historic 5,000 square foot home and unusual gift shop and trading post are open all year. Take a guided tour of the home, and appreciate the rich history within its walls.

Outdoor and Adventure Activities in Moab

Take a wild ride jumping out of an airplane at Skydive Moab, Go 4x4 or rent a dirt bike at Canyonlands Jeep and Car Rentals. Grab a mountain bike rental and ride some of the best mountain biking terrain in the world! Hook up with an outfitter or rent your own climbing gear for spectacular rock climbing and canyoneering. Go for some water fun and try boating, SUP Paddleboard, and river tours are available from several outfitters. In the winter, you can rent snowshoes and cross-country skis, although they really don't get much snow!

Moab Parks

Dead Horse Point State Park

From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever-changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water, and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800s, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral. What story will you discover on your visit to Dead Horse Point State Park?

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands invites you to explore a wilderness of countless canyons and fantastically formed buttes carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries. Rivers divide the park into four districts: Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the rivers themselves. These areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, but each offers different opportunities for sightseeing and adventure.

Arches National Park

Visit Arches to discover a landscape of contrasting colors, land forms and textures unlike any other in the world. The park has over 2,000 natural stone arches, in addition to hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins and giant balanced rocks. This red-rock wonderland will amaze you with its formations, refresh you with its trails, and inspire you with its sunsets.

Grab a headlamp that has a red light so you’re eyes can quickly adjust to the night sky when you are star gazing at one of the parks in Moab.

Check out Episodes 48 & 49 where I go in-depth detail on all Utah National Parks, why I love them, and how to visit Utah’s amazing National Parks!

Where to Stay

Purple Sage Flats and Moab Flats are two boutique hotels in Moab that have been completely redesigned in the past five years to a chic, modern comfy place to stay that features amenities such as kitchens in every room, laundry facility, hot tub and complimentary mountain bike use! There’s a picnic area and fire pit outside to kick back and relax during the warm summer nights.

COVID Travel Update UK Contemplating COVID 19 Border Checks to Enter Country

Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel.

Listen to travel agents who give you inside information on their favorite vacation places, where to go, what to see, and the best places to stay when you vacation around the world.

Find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!

In this episode, you’ll find out about what the UK is now considering for travelers arriving in the country. If you are coming in overseas, you may be checked at the border and not be admitted without a negative Covid-19 test. “Additional measures, including testing before departure, will help keep the importation of new cases to an absolute minimum,” the department for transport said in a recent interview.

As Boris Johnson imposes the third national lockdown in England earlier this week to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, this new announcement for travel guidelines has come through. Although testing for overseas travelers is the current mandate, British authorities and the government haven’t enforced this regulation. The department for transport said they want to “prevent the spread of Covid-19 across the UK border”. DfT would move forward in alliance with Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to process a regulated UK travel guideline.

Covid Travel Update Hawaii Insider Part III | Oahu and Honolulu

Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel.

Listen to travel agents who give you inside information on their favorite vacation places, where to go, what to see, and the best places to stay when you vacation around the world.

Find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!

This is the third of a three-part series on Hawaii travel where I chat with Tony Labbe of @labbetravel about the culture, things to do, and insider tips on six of the Hawaiian Islands. In part III this week, I’ll be talking to Tony about the beautiful islands of Oahu and Honolulu, what’s unique about each of these islands, his favorite places to stay and recommendations on what to do on each island.

Remember to be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands often, and definitely do not travel if you are in a high-risk group for COVID! See the link on Hawaii travel restrictions below for the latest information on Hawaii travel.

The Hawaiian Islands

Did you know there are a total of 132 islands in Hawaii? With eight main islands, Hawaii is the only state that is entirely surrounded by water and the only state that was formerly ruled by a monarchy and the only state that grows coffee.

The earliest settlers arrived in Hawaii around 800Ad, and Captain Cook was the first European voyager to discover Hawaii in 1778. Once Hawaii was incorporated into the United States, Lahaina, Maui was the first capital, which was then moved to the current capital of Honolulu on the big island.

Mauna Kea, on the Big Island, is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from the seafloor, and Hawaii has many active volcanoes that are in the process of making this island chain larger every year. Besides being the tallest mountain, this is also the location of a ski resort and receives snow every winter!

My guest, Tony Labbe, suggests trying several different restaurants while visiting any Hawaiian Island as world-renowned chefs are cooking up exquisite meals at many of the culinary choices in Hawaii. For those of us who are gluten-free, this equates to having the ability to safely eat gourmet meals with a beautiful view of the ocean!

Cruise Hawaii

Tony suggests flying into Hawaii and starting at one of the islands for your Hawaiian cruise. When you begin your Hawaiian journey from the islands, you’ll forgo the long trip across the ocean and spend many of your cruise days at sea. Easily go island hopping and find new adventures on your journey!

Things to do in Oahu

With the largest density population of all the islands, Oahu has all the amenities of modern life, including traffic jams in the capital city of Honolulu. If you grew up watching TV in the 1970’s, Oahu was the subject of opening title screens for such popular shows as Hawaii Five-O and Magnum P.I. Oahu is also home of Waikiki Beach, which is known as a popular area for tourism.

Tony says, “You can escape the hustle and bustle on the north shore.” Make sure to stop by and visit Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, and exquisite high-end shopping are highlights of the big city of Honolulu. Shop at Neiman-Marcus, Chanel or Prada. Or shop local at a boutique store in Honolulu.

Stay at the Disney Resort outside of Honolulu for your Hawaii Disney experience or plan your stay at one of the major resorts along the shores of Oahu.

If you’re traveling to one of the smaller islands, you’ll most likely layover in Honolulu before picking up your next flight to your final destination. Why not stay a couple days and enjoy the magnificent food Honolulu has to offer from one of the amazing five-star chefs on the island?

Visiting Hawaii - The Big Island

The island of Hawaii is the largest island of the Hawaii chain, geographically speaking. It’s also the third most visited island. On the island of Hawaii, you can take up skiing and surfing on the same day! Walk on a recent lava flow, surf, snorkel and visit a rainforest on your vacation adventure in Hawaii.

Frolic on green sand beaches on the southern point of the west side of the island Hawaii, Visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to see lava flows, and go on a deep sea fishing adventure. Where else in the world can you walk along a volcanic crater?

Visit the two main cities of Kona and Hilo while you are on vacation in Hawaii. Find some of the best golf courses in the world on the Big Island, or put on your science hat with a fun visit to the observatory on the top of the mountain.

In part II this week, I’ll be talking to Tony about the beautiful islands of Molokai and Kauai, what’s unique about each of these islands, his favorite places to stay and recommendations on an amazing luxury cruise offered in Kauai.

Easily go island hopping and find new adventures on your journey!

Things to do in Molokai

“Molokai is usually not the first Hawaiian island people visit,” says Tony. Off the beaten path, rustic and rugged environment so much so that there are no stop signs or stoplights on the entire island! A much simpler lifestyle on this island, “When you get there, you just slow down.”

Even though Hawaii is known for its championship golf, there are no golf courses on Molokai. Unlike its other island counterparts, Molokai does not feature luxury resorts. Tony suggests going to this unique island to experience more Hawaiian cultural foods, such as Poi, the fresh fish such as Ahi, and other local dishes.

Visiting Kauai

The geologically oldest island, Kauai, has lush rainforests, with the North Shore receiving the most rainfall of this island. On the top of the list for places to visit is Waimea Canyon, dubbed the “Grand Canyon of Hawaii,” take a helicopter ride to the Nepali Coast, and, of course, hiking through the forest.

Take to the water for river or sea kayaking, SUP, and snorkeling. Find some of the most fantastic ziplining through the Kauai rainforest, or take an UnCruise aboard a ship with only 34 other passengers to experience the ultimate in luxury cruise travel!
