In this episode, Emily breaks down famous weight loss myths and uncovers the truth behind a successful, sustainable lifestyle.

Emily Countryman is the CEO and founder of Ideal Wellness, a Washington State-based chain of weight loss clinics that serve clients in-person locally and across the country virtually. The seed of inspiration was planted in 2011 when Emily set out to lose 15 pounds of pregnancy weight one summer. Figuring that abiding by the expert-recommended “eat less and move more” philosophy would quickly work its magic, Emily was frustrated to end the summer down only three pounds. It wasn’t until Emily discovered nutritional ketosis and figured out macros that she lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks.

Because of her own success, Emily is passionate about educating other women (men too!) on losing weight and maintaining that goal weight. Since opening the doors of Ideal Wellness, Emily’s team has helped thousands of clients lose over one hundred thousand pounds with their 3-part ShiftSetGo program. Ideal Wellness now has 6 locations and is currently growing its virtual weight loss, coaching staff.

Emily has worked in the healthcare industry since 2003 and is determined to make a better future for the next generation, believing that our society can end the obesity pandemic with the right education and information. Emily is a certified weight loss coach and a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

As Founder and CEO of Kanopi Studios, Anne helps create clarity around project needs and turns client conversations into actionable outcomes. As someone at the intersection of business development, marketing, and technology, Anne provides a digital strategy to clients and organizations in the nonprofit, higher education, government, and corporate sectors. She enjoys helping clients identify their problems, translating it all into plain language, and then empowering the Kanopi team to execute stunning website solutions that strengthen brands and help companies succeed.

Kanopi was born from Anne’s desire to build strong, sustainable, creative websites and provide for their growth beyond launch. The name “Kanopi” represents her passion not only for treehouses but for websites, as both are sustainable ecosystems under a larger canopy: both have beautiful architecture, can be simple or complex, are customizable within their landscape, have strong foundations, need to accommodate constant growth and change, and are limited only by creativity. As such, Kanopi provides quality customer service with a holistic approach that covers the full lifecycle of a website, from initial strategy to beyond launch.

When she’s not advocating for the open-source community or running her web agency, she enjoys yoga and meditation, time on a bike or in the water, and hanging with her nephew.

Have you ever felt betrayed in your business before? Have you experienced someone taking your lifelong work and using the "copy and paste" method to make some quick cash?

How are we then supposed to handle it? Do we ignore it? Do we dare take a stand or will we experience massive judgement?

As I experienced that myself this year, I looked around and noticed that no one has spoken openly about this, yet many have experienced it. Today we are turning on the microphone to open up this discussion in a raw and real way.

When we share our stories, we connect with each other at a deeper level. When we make friends with our fear, we can step into who we're meant to be.

Working as a brand strategist with businesses of all sizes - from big brands like Five Guys to brand new entrepreneurs - for the past two decades, Melanie once drove 7,000 miles in 3 weeks on the Live Your Brand Tour to find out why great brands work. The HUMANS were at the center of everything.

Along the way, she noticed that every human had a personal story to share along with their brand story. Diving into the methodology of writing branded talks, she saw an even bigger pattern - people wanted to write their talks, yet focused on what they had to do at their "real job" instead of their bigger impact in the world. She knew she had to change this.

As an international keynote speaker, brand storyteller, and public speaking trainer, Melanie took all of her corporate & personal branding experience and created a safe place for Kickass Humans to write the talks they needed to write so they could share it with the world through her course, SPEAK With Confidence.

Melanie & her Crew travel the world creating branded experiences for humans like you to find your stories, build your confidence, and amplify your voices through their corporate public speaking and pitch trainings.

When Melanie’s not playing with speakers & corporate folks or rocking the stage, she's living the vacation life - bouncing between Denver, a lake in Western New York, and coastal Florida chasing sunrises with her husband and her pup.

“How do I show value in the workplace?”

How do we continue to show value, gain recognition, and support others when we are not in our normal, face to face environment?

How do we address the normal conversations we would have face to face like getting a pay raise, promotional opportunities, and gaining recognition and winning awards.

What if business takes a turn? Many already are, or are on their way… how do we prove that we are worth keeping around as they make budget and job cuts?

These are all excellent questions to be considering, especially during a time like this.

Heather Simpson walks you through 5 ways to show value in the workplace (even during a pandemic). Arrive at work with a winning mindset to set yourself apart from the rest.

Shannon Huffman Polson knows about grit. A native of Alaska, at age nineteen she became the youngest woman ever to climb Mt. McKinley and went on to summit Mt. Rainier and Mt. Kilimanjaro. After graduating college, she entered the military, becoming one of the first women to fly the Apache attack helicopter in the US Army. She led two flight platoons and a line company, serving on three continents before joining the corporate world.
However, time and again, she had to harness her own inner strength to overcome adversity and attain her goals. It wasn’t until leaving the Army that Polson realized the benefit of her experience and those of others. So, she began collecting candid stories of combat and career from trailblazing military women. In THE GRIT FACTOR: Courage, Resilience, and Leadership in the Most Male-Dominated Organization in the World (September 8, 2020) Polson tells their tales, detailing how they overcame adversity, and sharing how others can learn from their experiences.

This cast of characters includes Heather Penney, one of the first female F-16 pilots; General Ann Dunwoody, first female four-star general in the Army; Marine Commander Amy McGrath, first woman to fly the F/A-18 in combat - and dozens of other unstoppable women who got there first; including Polson. These women learned to lead at the highest levels in the most complicated, challenging, male-dominated organization in the world.
While some focus on passion and perseverance, to Polson, grit is a skill; one that can be taught to help people overcome fear, break through uncertainty, and reach their full potential. In addition to relating insights from these remarkable women, she shares tactical exercises in the book to help people grow their grit through three phases - Commit, Learn, and Launch.

Meet Denice Torres | Fortune 50 Senior Executive – Founder of The Mentoring Place - Author – Keynote Speaker

Denice grew up in a lower-middle-class family in Gary, Indiana where she worked as a janitor in a steel mill to save money for college. As a Hispanic, Polish, gay woman from humble
beginnings and a wicked sense of humor, she didn’t exactly fit the mold of a corporate
executive. Driven by equal parts ambition and fear, she began her career practicing law (for the longest year of her life) and eventually joined a large, Midwest pharmaceutical company where she worked her way up the ranks of management.

Denice later joined Johnson & Johnson, one of the largest healthcare companies in the world where she was president of multi-billion-dollar companies in pharmaceutical and consumer sectors. Most notably, she was responsible for leading the successful turnaround of the company that makes Tylenol when products were removed from store shelves due to quality challenges.

Denice’s rise to executive leadership was filled with ups and downs and fueled by what she
refers to as an “asses on fire” mentality to keep going. She has received many awards such as Healthcare Businesswoman of the Year, Mother of the Year at J&J/Working Mother, Diversity Champion of the Year, and has featured in Latina Style, WorkingWomen and other publications. She has also served as a keynote speaker for many Fortune 500 companies on the topics of leadership, change management, and women’s empowerment.

In 2019 Denice founded The Mentoring Place, an online platform for helping women navigate their careers through real-world, no BS insights and guidance. In a matter of weeks, thousands of women signed up for her bi-monthly live streams. In 2020, Denice is launching her first book, “Flip the Tortilla and Other Lessons in Resilience, Optimism, and Mojo.” In October, “Flip the Tortilla, a weekly podcast about women, careers, courage, and resilience – mixed with humor and some irreverence – will be available on all major podcast platforms.

Denice doesn’t believe women should send the elevator down when they get to the top. Instead, she says women should go back and lead other women by the hand - through the muck and uncertainty– to help them achieve their goals.

Denice lives in New Hope, Pennsylvania with her wife, Kim, and their 19-year-old daughter,
Sierra, who was born with cerebral palsy. Sierra has taught Denice incredible life lessons that she happily shares in all her interactions.

As women, we often become the masters of pulling things together at the last minute, of stepping in on others behalf, and of "figuring it out" when it comes to so many things in our life.

We have entered into an era where DIY becomes the norm. Where we feel like we have to be Wonder Woman, and get it all done, on our own.

But when do we make the shift to rely on others? To seek out professional resources? To start leveraging ourselves, instead of being leveraged by others?

Heather Simpson walks you through her 7 steps to determine if you need to cut out the DIY, and start to get some help!

It's our first #AskHeatherEpisode

We've heard from our listeners and are answering your leadership questions.

Have a question you'd like to ask Heather? Want to receive a free consult on the air? Email AskHeather@SheLeadsMe.com

Heather answers the following questions today:
**Q: I run a team of about 10 people, all with different personality styles… what is the best method to monitor their performance?

Q: In my company, I have a very diverse team of individuals. Some times, disagreements get in the way of moving forward on very important agenda items. How do you manage conflict in an efficient way? Part of me wants to work through this, but there are times where I also want to tell them all to grow up!

Q: I run my own company and love it! Without the “normal” structure of working for another company. How do I make sure that I am doing the best job I can be doing as a leader?

Q: How do I know when it’s time to fire someone? This person does a good job at what they do, but we continuously have problems with them in our company. I’m hesitant to fire a good worker bee and also am worried about having an HR nightmare on my hands.**Listen to Heather's answers as she gives insight with her background and experience to these different questions.

Who's in your inner circle?
Such a big, important question to think about and really evaluate the questions... Who do we spend the most amount of time with? What type of impact do those people have on me? Do I want to continue to spend time with them?

We often times feel that we HAVE to tolerate certain, soul suckers in our lives. We think we have an obligation just because they have been a friend for a long time, or they are a family member, or we work with them. But guess what?! We actually DON’T have to tolerate them.

We do have the power to set boundaries, even if they are a co-worker, even if they have been a friend for a really long time, even if they are a family member.

"You need to surround yourself with those on the same mission as you. As much as people refuse to believe it, the people you surround yourself with, DO have an impact and influence on your life and choices." Heather Simpson

"As entrepreneurs, as female leaders… we run in very small packs. Sometimes so small, that we have the doubt, the “imposter syndrome”. We can only pull ourselves out of our own minds so many times and so quickly. Our mindset is a muscle that we do have to exercise daily… but one of the weights that our minds need to lift, is the support of others. " Heather Simpson

Finding a tribe can be easy… Finding your tribe, can be challenging. Join Heather on today's show as she guides you through the steps you can take to set boundaries in your life and relationships, and truly create the inner circle that you want for your life.

You want to meet this woman. Kalia Garrido, wears multiple hats; wife, mother, self professed heath geek, avid outdoors person and founder multiple companies.
How did she get here? Drive and Determination. After moving from Boston to Miami, she found herself with a exciting career in the tech industry and raising her newborn son on her own.

"I was determined that my son would want for nothing and I was going to make it work. My career flourished because of it." Kalia shares.

She met her husband and made the move to the bustling tech industry of Denver. She worked her way to upper level management in corporate America, and hit the goals she had set for herself. The result? Realizing something was missing.

"I had been working my tail off to get there, and as soon as I hit it, is when I felt that I could look around and really take assessment of the scene that I was in, and be able to start to uncover, that actually wasn't for me. What would I do next?"

After a year of hitting her career goal, she left. "I'm going to give it all back. In fact, I will take nothing. It's time for me to start my own business."

She shares with us how leaving the comforts of a well paying job, can create fear. Overcoming fear, is something that she has set out to conquer. She emphasizes the importance of knowing yourself, so you can achieve what you are meant to do in this process.

"You have to take the time to know yourself, and that will make the difference in everything."

In the quest for knowing herself, she broadened her definition of health. She started implementing meditation and connecting with her spiritual health in combination from the active and healthy lifestyle she lives. She set out to answer the question, "What is the meaning of health?"

From here, this is where Healthy Women Leaders was born. A group collective of women, understanding health in all aspects of their lives. They are turning the thought of "Selfishness" into "Self Care" for women.
