Not much going on in combat sports over the weekend except for a couple of boxing matches. I tuned in to watch Shakur Stevenson win an unspectacular decision and The Diaz vs Masvidal fight. I couldn't help but notice the difference in ability between the two shows. I watched them on one screen at the same time. Go figure, the pure boxing event with actual boxers looked levels ahead of the skill shown on the card with MMA fighters doing boxing.

I must have been awfully close to the target to warrant a response from Chael Sonnen. For someone with such a massive following to pay any attention to me is unusual. BKFC and UFC were over the weekend and I was able to catch most of the fights. I have to admit I was very wrong about Chito beating Sandhagen. Sandhagen completely outclassed Vera and should have won a major decision. MMA scoring makes no sense so it was ruled a split dec. I've said it before and I'll say it a lot tonight. The scoring will never be fixed as long as the UFC holds its monopoly over MMA.

UFC and Bellator both had events over the weekend and I was able to catch almost every fight. Both events were solid and had some surprising finishes. It's starting to look like the Bellator fighters might have more skill than their UFC counterparts but they earn considerably less and the Bellator promotion can't compete with how much revenue the UFC brings in. Last night there was a crowning of a new middleweight champ. Somehow he only has 5 professional MMA fights and was able to KO a guy people considered one of the best to do it at 185 since Anderson Silva. This fight highlights the problem with UFC controlling rank and title. How can we be sure these champs are actually any good? Several fight events were going on this weekend, but I could only catch the UFC and BKFC events. The cards were pretty ho-hum overall, with a lot of "fun size" fights.
