David Bailey, Founder and Executive Director of Arrabon, an organization existing to equip you and your community to effectively engage in reconciliation. Raised in Richmond, VA, David saw the effects of the city as the former capital of the confederacy. The church was divided both for and against slavery. David strives to ultimately move people toward action of race and class reconciliation. To understand unity, we have to go back to Genesis 1 when all was good. Then we have to move into Genesis 3 with Adam and Eve when life became broken. As a Christian, you repent of your sins, forgiving what you’ve done but then you change your mind and heart and engage in positive actions against your previous ways. There is a call to more than just being cool with people of color (act of conciliation). History plays a role in understanding and living in REconciliation rather than just conciliation. David shares an example of someone who builds a kingdom business in the business world. On April 8th, 2018 the documentary “11 AM” debuts in Richmond. The film tells the story of a community of musicians who are working to write a new narrative by raising up culturally competent leaders who are desiring change in the shameful legacy of the Church segregation. Hershael York, Pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church and Professor of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary takes us through his journey all the way back to the age of 5. Vivid memories of feeling lost at 5 and then coming to Christ at the age of 7. From a small southern town, to the city of Detroit, and then all the way to Brazil, Hershael has seen it all. There was a lady there who came to watch for the first time and she took a photo of us and that was pretty cool.” Nate Robitaille discusses his faith journey and his life on and off the field. For Nate, the uncertainty of his future in football came at the age of 18, freshman year of college. Most recently, and 6 years later, he won the German Football League (GFL) an American Football league in Germany with the Schwabash Hall Unicorns. “To you, death is the end, for me, death is just the beginning.” “Being a Christian in the Middle-East is actually a suicide mission, it’s sheep living among wolves. It feels like genocide.”The Church in Iraq is known as the Church of Martyrs or Church of Blood, because they are ready to die for Christ. The blood of Christians in Iraq is more than oil in Iraq, from 2003 to 2017, Christian believers in the Middle-East went from 1.2 Million to less than 200,000. Father Douglas Al-Bazi retells his story of his church bombed with 5 missile attacks to then being tortured by Islamist terrorists for 9 days. He forgives them and actually, wishes to drink Chai tea with them in the future. “When I was kidnapped, actually they were captured by me, I was kidnapping them. I was more relaxed, more power, and sometimes I was teasing them.” The most important part is to share the story of the people, or the Christians living in the Middle-East.
Problems don’t change, unless you change them. LaMorris Crawford grew up with his grandmother, my mother was murdered and I was in a gang by 12 and selling crack cocaine by the age of 14.. “I was doing those things to fill a void in my life, and the void only got bigger… Sports was my outlet.” After seeing someone change for 3 years, LaMorris gave his life to Christ when he was 19. At 16, he didn’t need God, or so he thought. Now as a sport’s chaplain for the Cincinnati Bengal’s, LaMorris works with the team sharing the gospel. “You’re not born with character, it’s taught and developed… Part of humility, and compassion, is paying for a single mother’s laundry. It’s all about making other people important.” We are made in his likeness, his image, and have the spirit of God in us. Expose your heart, mind, and spirit to the word. Develop a HUNGER for God’s word and run your race.
