What if your exhaustion, fear, grief, and self-doubt don’t mean you’re failing?
What if nothing has gone wrong?
In this deeply personal episode, Shelby shares the story of grieving her son while he serves a church mission in South Korea, a divine moment at the water that reminded her she is never forgotten by God, and the surprising fears many women carry around visibility, success, expansion, and becoming fully themselves.
This episode explores:
If you’ve been feeling exhausted, disconnected, stuck in self-doubt, or afraid to fully step into your gifts, this episode is for you.
Maybe your life is not falling apart.

So many women think they’re exhausted because they’re overwhelmed, burned out, or dealing with nervous system dysregulation.
But there’s another huge energy drain hiding in plain sight: indecision.
When you sit on the fence—constantly weighing options, worrying about getting it wrong, or waiting for certainty—you end up leaking enormous amounts of energy.
In this episode, I share a raw reflection on how simply making a committed decision can unlock energy, clarity, and momentum in your life.
We also talk about:
• Why indecision keeps your nervous system stuck
• The power of recognizing that you always have choice
• How outcome independence frees you from fear
• Why you don’t need to “heal everything” before moving forward
• The simple question to ask yourself: What decision am I avoiding that’s costing me energy?
When you step into a decided identity—even before you see the results—your energy has somewhere to go.
And that’s when life starts to move again.

Let’s be real.
I used to hold onto things way longer than I needed to—commitments, beliefs, expectations—just because I felt like I had to follow through. Like I wasn’t allowed to change my mind without being flaky, selfish, or weak.
But what I’ve learned through my own healing (and in coaching so many women) is this:
Changing your mind is not failure. It’s freedom.
In this episode, I’m sharing the nervous-system-informed truth about what makes it feel so hard to pivot, say no, or let go—and how to create safety in your body so that you can stop forcing it and start living in alignment.
You’ll learn:
If you’ve ever felt stuck in something that used to make sense but doesn’t anymore, this episode will feel like a breath of fresh air.
Let’s give you the permission slip you’ve been waiting for.

In today’s episode, I break down why confidence doesn’t come after you get the results you want—it comes before.
I teach you how to build true, identity-based confidence even if you’re tired, unsure, or stuck in perfectionism. This is the same process I use with my coaching clients to help them show up with clarity and power, long before everything looks perfect on the outside.
You’ll hear real stories from women who stopped waiting to feel ready and started becoming the version of themselves they’d been longing for. And I’ll walk you through how to do the same using thought work, nervous system safety, and small, intentional shifts.
If you’ve been telling yourself, “I’ll feel confident when…”—this episode is for you.
I talk about:
Ready to stop waiting to feel confident and start becoming the woman you want to be?

I know I’m not the only one who’s ever heard the phrase “fear not” and thought… okay, but how??
In today’s episode, I’m sharing the real reason why this verse used to feel like pressure instead of peace—and what finally helped me understand what God actually means when He says, “fear not.”
I take you back to one of the hardest seasons of my life, when I was in kidney failure and completely overwhelmed, and I show you how my relationship with fear (and faith) changed forever.
You’ll hear how fear is not a failure—it’s a nervous system response. And once you understand that, everything shifts.
In this episode, I walk you through:
This is the episode I wish someone had given me when I was trying to force my way through fear instead of learning how to soften and be held.
If your body still feels stuck in fear—even when your heart wants to trust—this one’s for you.

In this powerful episode, I share a deeply personal story of coaching in front of a group and instantly spiraling into shame. Do you ever feel like no matter how much you do, it’s never enough? Like you're running on empty but still pushing through?
In this powerful episode, I share my story of living under the weight of hustle culture: the constant pressure to achieve, perform, support everyone else, and never complain. I talk about what that looked like as a young mom, a military spouse, and a woman trying to do everything right — until my body forced me to stop.
This isn’t just a story about burnout. It’s a story about waking up.

I share a story I’ve never told on the podcast before—what it felt like to decide to go back to work after 10 years of being a stay-at-home mom, after kidney failure, after thinking I’d never have the capacity to work again. I kept telling myself I needed to feel ready. But the feeling never came. What came instead was a quiet nudge: You get to choose.
If you’ve been waiting for the fear to go away before you take the next step…
If you’ve been stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or chronic fatigue…
If you’ve been telling yourself, “Once I have more time/energy/confidence, then I’ll start…”

In this episode of Get Your Energy Back, we’re talking about something that hits deep for women living with chronic conditions: putting your health first—not after the dishes are done, not after the kids are settled, not after everything else is handled.
Because here’s the truth:
👉 You can’t do anything if you don’t have your health.
👉 And you don’t have to earn your right to rest, joy, or peace.
If your body is constantly in survival mode, no amount of green smoothies or magnesium will fix it until you get to the root of what’s draining your energy.

Hey there, it's me, Shelby, and I'm thrilled to welcome you to today's podcast! Let's talk about something that's close to my heart: creating space for healing and abundance. You know, I've been thinking a lot lately about how we can break free from that fear cycle and make room for real growth and healing, both emotionally and physically.

It's time to break free from that mindset and embrace the truth: there's more than enough good and healing to go around.
So, join me as I share some personal stories, insights, and practical tips for cultivating gratitude and intentionally creating space for abundance in our lives. This podcast isn't just about healing; it's about living the life you've always dreamed of. So, grab a cup of tea, get cozy, and let's dive in together!

When you're not feeling great all the time, the "fear of missing out" (FOMO) can seem really big and unfair. In this episode, I share how honoring your body (and your need for rest), while learning how to grow your body’s comfort zone through gentle, loving, curious compassion, you get to live more of YOUR life YOUR way.
When you start honoring when your body asks you to dial back, she’s there for you when you want to rock at life too.
The most important piece is to stop steamrolling over the gentle nudges your body gives you and start giving her the mindful attention she deserves and craves.
Because, believe me, your body wants you to go out and have a fun time too.
And then you won’t have to “pay for it later”. Listen to this episode to find out how.

In this podcast, I will be discussing the importance of developing a positive relationship with your body. Having a good relationship with your body is the key to making healing happen. There are three main aspects to this relationship that I want to address: your thoughts about your body, paying attention to the sensations in your body, and interpreting what those sensations mean. It's important to understand that your thoughts about your body are significant and can create different energy states in the nervous system. Unfortunately, negative thoughts about the body are often perpetuated by societal pressures that benefit from people feeling bad about themselves. That's why I want to encourage you to intentionally decide what you want to think about your body and to focus on healing and feeling healthy. So take a listen and let's dive in and explore how to develop a positive relationship with your body.

In 2017, I was introduced to these 5 thoughts that changed everything for me by my life coach-Jody Moore. I go into depth about the power of observing your beliefs and deciding what to believe on purpose. It seems like everyone you're talking to around this time of year is dealing with a lot of stress. Transitions are hard, and the transition to fall, cooler weather, and school starting can feel a little overwhelming. It's fascinating that recent research reveals that the belief of stress being bad for you actually makes it come true. While the opposite is also true. Believing that stress is actually good and healthy for you can impact your health in unexpectedly positive ways. Take a listen to learn more now.

You've heard of the "fight or flight response", but what else do you know about your nervous system? Did you know that this response is related to your nervous system? When your body activated in the sympathetic nervous system over time, it can have a harsh impact on your physical and emotional health. In this episode, I'll give you an intro on how to understand your body just a little bit better. Because when you can access the calm state--the parasympathetic state--things start to flow and true healing can occur. Learning how to access this state can bring down both emotional and physical pain. So let's dive in!

It's easy to feel very powerless in your life. It's also easy to feel stuck and that what you do doesn't matter or doesn't make a difference. In this episode, I talk about some concepts from shame researcher Brene Brown and her book "The Gifts of Imperfection" to help guide you into feeling hope again. In a world where you're taught to shove your feelings down and not be "so emotional", it can be hard to even know what you're feeling. You may have never asked yourself that question before. "What emotion am I experiencing?" In this episode, I share why it takes courage to show up for yourself emotionally and to be honest with how you are feeling. And I share how self-compassion helps you to move forward when you're feeling stuck. You don't have to be at the brink or at the end of your rope to start making positive changes today. With a little bit of courage and a healthy helping of self-compassion, you can start your emotional healing today. Because it's really cool what you can create when you step out of your own way.

Wanna lose some weight? We think that we've got to hate our bodies enough so that we'll actually do something about changing them. And I have found that this is the opposite of how sustainable weight loss actually occurs.

And, it can be fun too.
Our brains always want to solve a problem. They are designed that way. It’s to keep us safe and keep us thriving as a species.

Chronic illness can feel like it’s ripping your identity apart. You can’t do the things you used to and you’re scared about the future. In the present, you might not be able to take care of yourself or the people you have stewardship over in the ways you’ve always been able to. When that happens, a lot of people tell me that they feel like a burden to the people around them.
But nothing could be further from the truth. In this podcast, we uncover the truth about "being a burden" and discuss why it's not even possible.
It can be so hard when everyone is telling you to feel grateful and you just don't. You'll want to check out this episode to feel why you might not be feeling grateful and what to do instead. Who knows, you might even find some gratitude anyway, but only if you want to.
In this episode, we talk about something many of us in the chronic illness community face- Toxic Positivity. There's the external things people tell us, like "Keep your chin up" or "Things aren't that bad", but there's also the unexamined internal toxic positivity we keep in ourselves. This kind causes emotional distress and creates immense internal suffering.
We discuss 3 ways to combat this internal dialogue and how to end the suffering caused by Toxic Positivity.

Hi this is Shelby Hansen and this is Episode 1: and I'm so excited to share this podcast with you. Today I'm going to talk to you about the things and people who have helped me as I have gone through being diagnosed with a chronic illness.
In the spring of 2015 I was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease. I was nearly given a blood transfusion on the spot because I was so sick. This diagnosis came very suddenly and unexpectedly in the middle of, what I thought, was a very normal mom-life. I had three children at the time, my husband was in the Air Force, and we had just moved to a new location. I had a really difficult time coming to terms with my diagnosis and what it would mean for my family and me. Thankfully, my diagnosis was not fatal, but it is chronic. It meant that it was something that I will be dealing with for the rest of my life. So in this episode, I want to let you know a little bit about how life coaching has helped me through this major transition.
When I was first introduced to life coaching the biggest lesson that I learned was that I am a person who has thoughts and I am not my thoughts.
I also learned that my thoughts are different from the facts. When I'm able to separate out the facts from the thoughts I have about the facts, it allows me to have ownership over my own reaction to those facts.
I thought it would be fun in this episode to tell you a little story about the very first life coaches that came into my life. They may not all call themselves life coaches, but they were to me.
