Lawyer-Humans at LayRoots, a law firm that helps fellow adventurers live an awesome life. Come along on our journey as partners in life and business, as we grow our business, day-by-day. We talk about marriage, the outdoors, marketing, common problems we see, #boatlife, and #floatiefriday
As partners in life and business, we spend a lot of time together. We're used to it.
But the pandemic, with its shelter in place orders and office closures, has forced a lot of couples to spend more time together than ever before. We wanted to learn more about what kind of effect this has been having on romance and happiness. Are couples closer than ever, or is the need for private space pushing couples apart?
Amy Baker, a relationship and intimacy coach, and the founder of The Pleasure Principal, joins us today to talk about the trends she's been seeing with her customers.
The recent shelter-in-place orders have forced a lot of relationships into the no-privacy zone. But how do we keep the spark alive and keep finding things to talk about when we're with our partners all day, every day?
As partners in life and business, we've been asking ourselves that question for a long time, and we think we've figured out how to not drive each other crazy..
Continuing on this month's theme, we speak with Connie Matisse - half of the husband and wife duo behind East Fork Pottery - about how to balance different communication styles.
When there are problems in an office, we call a meeting immediately. When there are issues at home, we may tend to wait until we've cooled off to have a conversation.
This week, Colin and Shreya talk about balancing different communication styles when your coworker is also your partner
This month our theme is bringing outside passions into the workplace. We're big believers that being able to be our true selves at work helps to both gain trust with our clients, and also makes the work day a little more fun.
Today, Colin and Shreya converse about how our hobbies and personality affect our careers.
If you missed our first episode of the month, we spoke with Brenna and Jay, the team behind Apex Art Lab, about what it means for them to bring their love of art to their framing and design shop in Seattle, WA.
This month on the Lawyer-Human show, we're talking about how people bring their outside passions and hobbies to their businesses. Later this month, we'll talk more about how we try to bring some of ourselves into our own business, but this episode is all about Apex Art Lab.
Apex Art Lab is a custom framing and art installation shop based in Seattle, Washington. Our guests this week are the husband and wife duo behind Apex Art Lab, Brenna and Jay. We love their creativity both in and outside of the business.
It's a love episode with Tim & Laura!
Sullivan & Sullivan is a boutique photography studio specializing in weddings and small business branding. They have a really interesting and beautiful aesthetic, and I would highly recommend checking out their work online. Their personalities clearly shine through in everything that they do, which is a delight to see and experience. They also have recently expanded to offer web design and business mentorship/coaching.
They also run Moveable Feast Retreats where they take 15 or so people to a different country every year. They rent out the most amazing accommodations that are unique to the country they are in. They explore the food and culture of the country with the goal that people will leave inspired to take these experiences and live a more soulful, meaningful, and full life.
Can't you just feel the love of these two? (Photograph by Alexandra Celia Photography)

Where Colin and Shreya answer some of the questions that they normally ask their guests and you get to hear a snippet of karaoke recorded during New Year's Eve revelry from deep in the forests of Vietnam. It's "better" on video.

Happy Holidays from LayRoots
Shreya and Colin debate about "who to hire first?" We got a lot of interaction with this video - a lot of opinions. And the debate extended beyond the camera for a full week!

Leah and Katie own two businesses together. One is, Better Growth, an agency to service start-ups in Sales, HR, People Ops, and Customer Success. While building that business, they came across an amazing space, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create a community in Portland for artisans and makers to host pop-ups and test out their brick-and-mortar concepts, which is Brick PDX. I had the pleasure of speaking at Brick PDX to a room full of makers in the Portland area. It had such a great energy and vibe and I’m glad that they hosted me! Shout out to my friend, Meghan, for inviting me into her and their world.
If you're in Portland, you should check out their space!

The Lawyer-Humans have an office update!
That's all. Listen to find out. Or don't and wonder forever.
Garcia-Martin & Martin Law is a boutique litigation and employment law firm in the Houston metropolitan area. They are partners in life & business, of course, and provide their clients with the expertise that they would typically find at a large firm with the focus and customer service of the family business that they are. For those of you who don’t know what “litigation” is – it’s lawsuits. And even though people like us can help folks protect themselves against litigation, it’s not possible to completely avoid it – and then you want people like the Martins on your side.
If you're in the Houston area, and needing help, contact the Garcia-Martin & Martin!

We're baaaack and changing things up a bit.
This time around we are interviewing other partners in life and business. We have a spicy new intro that we will use intermittently and we will add our own commentary of course.
Speaking with these other partners in life and business has been heartwarming, inspiring, and really interesting.
