What a race. At the beginning of the year, I started noticing changes in my heart and mind. With Ironman 70.3 St. George and Ironman 70.3 Boulder already on my schedule, I knew these two races would close a 25-year chapter of chasing Ironman goals. After a disappointing race at Ironman 70.3 St. George, I realized I had my work cut out for me going into this last race.

In the five weeks between the St. George race and Boulder, I focused not only on physical training but also on building mental fitness. The race I had on Saturday exceeded my expectations. With so many of my amazing friends and family lining the course, and combining a solid swim, bike, and run with proper nutrition and mental strength, I knew this race would be a tribute to what triathlon has meant to me and how it has shaped me into the person I am today.

During the second part of the run, euphoria set in, and I realized I may never experience a race like that again. I thank my lucky stars, my angel mama, my Father in Heaven, and all those who sent me their love and energy. We often don't realize that what we do can inspire others, but I know I've been inspired countless times by watching others' athleticism.

If you're looking to reach the next level in something and see how it can transform and uplift your life, this could be the perfect episode for you. A tribute to triathlon – Ironman 70.3 Boulder.

Every day of my life, my mom's influence is woven through everything I do. My passion and deep commitment to living a healthy lifestyle were cultivated when I was a little girl, as I watched my mom truly live out what it means to be healthy. She embodied wellness not just in her actions, but in her spirit, demonstrating daily the importance of health.

In this episode, "Mom's Influence on Healthy Living," I delve into the profound traits and characteristics she demonstrated and passed on to me, my sister, and my six brothers. Her approach to health was holistic and nurturing, emphasizing the connection between physical well-being and emotional resilience. Despite her passing almost five years ago due to ALS, her legacy endures. Her teachings and example continue to inspire us, shaping the way we prioritize our health and wellness.

You can see the impact of her life in how my siblings and I have embraced and committed to healthy living. Her influence has not only shaped our personal lives but has also motivated us to share this passion with others. Even if you didn’t have the example of healthy living while you were growing up, you can start today to be the influence in your own immediate family. By adopting small, consistent changes, you can create a ripple effect that transforms the lives around you.

I am excited for your influence to be felt by those around you, just as my mom’s influence continues to inspire and guide us every day. Join me in honoring her legacy and exploring how we can all live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Triathlon has been an integral part of my life for 25 years, especially since I started participating in Ironman sanctioned races back in 2011. Doing my race report is one of my favorite episodes, and reflecting on the Ironman 70.3 St. George has been quite the emotional journey. Those last two miles of the run, or rather, the final 68 miles of the entire race, were a poignant time for me to contemplate how much my life has evolved since I first tackled the St. George course back in 2017.

As I traversed the course, it struck me that the most profound impacts of triathlon aren't just about the physicality of the race itself, but the myriad lessons learned on race day and the traits honed through training and competing. I've always maintained that one of the greatest aspects of triathlon is its resemblance to life—a microcosm of life's challenges and triumphs.

With this being the final year of Ironman racing, there's a mix of apprehension and anticipation. Do I still possess the same passion and drive for the sport, knowing it like the back of my hand? There's a certain comfort in familiarity, yet I recognize the need to heed the call of my heart and diversify my athletic pursuits. I'm at an age where repeating the same routines feels stale, yet I'm still youthful enough to embrace new adventures and sports.

So, I urge you to sit back, take it all in, and ask yourself where your heart truly longs to go.

In life, one certainty is that none of us will make it out alive. Loss and grief are inevitable parts of our journey. Having walked this path before, I find myself both familiar and resistant to traversing it again. Five years ago, the loss of my mom taught me that exercise and movement were essential in my healing process. Reflecting on my recent 25K trail run during a podcast episode, I likened the course to the road of grief.

During the race, with my father-in-law on life support, I had ample time to contemplate the grieving process. I pushed through to the finish line, rushing to his side before his body succumbed to its final shutdown. It was a poignant reminder that grace and patience are vital companions on this journey of healing.

Grief isn't a sprint; it's a marathon, a long game demanding resilience and endurance. So, buckle up and brace yourself for the bumps along the way. In this episode, I share strategies to ease the journey, to smooth the road, even if just a little.

Reflecting on nearly four years of podcasting, launching Kami Banks coaching, initiating Team Elevate, and navigating through various highs and lows in relationships and personal growth, especially after a significant ski accident, has been an incredible journey. Throughout this time, I've garnered invaluable lessons that have transformed me from the inside out.

One of the most pivotal lessons I've learned is the art of pausing – cultivating emotional agility and mastering the ability to respond rather than react impulsively. This shift in perspective has been monumental, worth every ounce of effort, perseverance, and even tears shed along the way. Embracing discomfort and refusing to succumb to adversity has been another crucial lesson.

I also take a moment to express my gratitude to all who have tuned in and provided unwavering support, empowering me to show up week after week, striving to evolve and elevate. It's a journey that underscores the possibility for anyone, even the "average girl," to elevate their life.

Even though my mom never had the chance to listen to a single one of my podcast episodes while she was alive, it's her legacy and spirit that fuel the essence of this journey. In her honor and as a tribute to her, I embarked on this path, carrying forward the messages she imparted to me. Each episode is a testament to her wisdom and love, a continuation of the passion she instilled in me.

While her physical presence may be absent, her spirit resonates in every word spoken, every lesson shared. This podcast is not just my endeavor; it's a collaboration between her heart and mine, a bridge connecting past and present. Through this platform, her legacy lives on, and her influence continues to shape lives, including my own.

So, as I celebrate this milestone, I do so with gratitude for the foundation she laid and the values she instilled. Her presence may be missed, but her impact remains profound, echoing through every episode and guiding me as I navigate the journey ahead.

As I have coached many women over the years, I have noticed how so many of us think this, but we feel like we are the only ones who think this.

I share a few different experiences in my life, where I  had the choice to choose to be courageous and have a warrior's heart or go so easily to my core fear of not being strong enough. Although it hasn't been until the last few years that I realize I had a choice on how I want to respond to different experiences.

Through the different experiences, once I have learned to drop my ego on thinking I should be strong enough, I found my strength though getting a stronger and braver heart.

**How do you start using food as fuel vs comfort? I offer three ways that can help you create a relationship with food that serves you, your body, and your mind.

First of all you need to determine the cost of excellence. What is your opportunity cost and the real cost of achieving something with your food and body that you don't already have? Where are you willing to use food as fuel and give up some temporary comfort?**

The next thing is focusing on the value that is coming from the food you are eating. Is the food whole and close to the source as opposed to processed or more calorie dense than nutrient dense? When you start seeing the value in food, your perspective shifts. The nutrient dense fast fuel formula is a great food plan to give you direction.

The last thing is finishing the cycle of planning, acting, and calibrating as you start creating your ideal food plan with food as fuel that will bring you lasting comfort in all areas. Then you will have created the comfortable life that you truly want, like comfortable in your skin, in your jeans, in your body, and when you walk in a room.

Does your perspective help you move forward or keep you stuck? I discuss 3 ways you could  currently be seeing the situations in your life. They are:

doubt or desire,

problem or possibility, and

failing vs figuring it out.

Then I offer a few ideas that can help you  change your perspective.

All of these things take noticing what lenses you are seeing out of and being willing to stick with it until you figure it out.

Our bootcamp this February will be a great place to learn more about developing a new perspective, and how to see from the lenses you desire.

Physical challenge accelerates mental development.  Kelsi and Michelle, a CrossFit Games athlete in 2021,  have developed such incredible mental toughness by challenging themselves with Crossfit, which then carries over to all areas of their lives. They both podium in the Iron Games in the 2022. They show us how to get out of our comfort zone even when it feels scary. Oftentimes people think they have to give up something to have the life they have dreamed of, but these two demonstrated how to stay focused, and how to have a family, be a competitive athlete, and a successful business owner. They also share how focusing on what you body can do versus how you body looks has been a win-win situation.

The holiday season brings up so many different emotions. It seems as though life gets kicked into high gear. What do you think when you think of food and the holidays? This week I want to address the idea of feeling restrictive and trapped if you want to be at a healthy athletic weight.

In most conversations I have with people they bring up the topic of food. I hear them say things like, they wish they didn't have to restrict, they don't want to have to worry about food, and they want to be about to eat what they feel like at the moment, and not follow a plan.

**As I unwind these ideas, I will show you that you can have food freedom without worrying,  feeling restrictive, or trapped. It is worth listening and it is worth retraining your brain and body because then you get to live the biggest life possible without food holding you back.

On the Team, we work on getting the right framework to get you on the track you want with your food.**

I share two ways that help you get through the hard.

I also share how through racing triathlons and running I have built up resilience that has helped me in so many difficult and challenging life situations.

What is the one step you need to take to change your life? A couple weekends ago at the Incline Your Life Retreat the first step you needed to take to get to the top of the incline was the first step out of 2,768 steps. So how does that translate to changing your life? You need to be committed to what you want.

You need to have awareness of where you are and then know where you want to go. Then making a commitment is the first thing you do to get into the massive action you need to change.

If you are not sure what you are committing to or the direction you want to go, the action you take will be meaningless.

I shared examples of the things we did at the retreat with our movement to the top of the incline and learning how to prepare food, and coaching on how to implement the things we learned. The incline was a physical way to show what commitment looks like, and set the pattern to follow with our food and mind.

The 3 things no one is talking about with food planning.

I take you through the ACE method to help you see why food planning is just a tool to help you get to what you really want.

The intention that you start the day with really matters.

The three things that may surprise you:

1-You see what is really happening.

Your brain justifies your food, but when you plan and evaluate your food, you get to be honest about what is happening with your food.

2-Also, the data you get is the answer you need to understand the obstacles that are in your way to get to the end result.

3-You retrain your brain with a food plan, then that retrains your body, which then starts eating the food that helps you get the results you want.

What have you done 100 times? Are you the same person you were when you started the first time? This is my 100th episode. To think about how scared I was the first time I launched my first episode to now where I look forward to doing one each week is a pretty exciting thing.

On the way to making something more automatic we will fall down, fear will often seem really loud, worry will pretend to be important, we will want to change too much too fast and lose patience, but knowing this is part of the process can help us stick with our actions at least 100 times.

We have all had time when we feel like we are settling. On the podcast this week I divide people up in two teams: Team Settle vs Team Elevate Where do you fall?

-Are you staying inside your comfort zone with your “known discomforts” or are you willing to step outside and experience the unknown discomfort for growth?

-Do you numb or push down things you want by overeating, over-drinking, over-shopping, over-working, over-Netflixing, etc?

-Do you get jealous or let your insecurities stop you from living the life you watch so many others have?

Starting this very moment we can choose to elevate. There will be challenges and unknown discomforts, but you will no longer be stuck, and that is a beautiful thing.

We each have this moment to live. Kyle Brown, who is a triathlete and cyclist enthusiast, shares some insight on how to feel alive. He has been diagnosed with bulbar ALS, which makes it hard to breath, swallow, and speak, and I feel so honored that he would share his words with us.

I asked him what mark he wanted to leave, and he said he wants people to realize what they have. “It is how we handle and view it every day and every minute.”

One of the highlights for him recently was having Sunday dinner with his newlywed wife and their combined 5 kids.

He says “I am living right now, and I am happy and content. That is what we are all searching for in life.”

How does real change happen? In this week's episode we dive into the sea of Cs.
The C of our A. C. E. gift.
The sea is a metaphor for how we really bridged the gap from where we are to where we want to be.
The sea is where we become the next version of ourselves.
We not only lose the weight, but we learn how to stick with it when the challenges come.
We learn how to be consistent when the obstacles come up.
And we learn how to stick with it know matter what.

I share the four zone that Jon Acuff (acuff.me) shared in his full potientional course.
It is the practice, apathy, chaos, and momentum zone. These are the zone that will get us to the other island that we want are trying to get to - the island of Excel

How many times have your weekends sabotaged your weight loss goals? This week I share a few things that can help you create successful weekends around your food.

1- self awareness- notice what is happening and discover the patterns you follow over the weekend

2- all or nothing thinking - watch the ideas and thoughts of being “perfect” with our food during the week, and being so restrictive that on the weekend we just want freedom.
So we go “off the plan” on the weekend

3- Get a system in place - create a daily food plan for everyday of the week including the weekend days

4-weekends matter- instead of listening to the thoughts that we deserve it and the weekends don't matter. We need to redirect our thoughts.  We need to remind ourselves of the thought that weekends matter.

Just changing small things will be the trick to having the lasting weight loss we are hoping for. We can stay on the plan, and not have to start and stop every few days.

When you are stuck, what do you do? This week on the podcast I offer a tool to get you unstuck. What do you usually get stuck on...overwhelm, anxiety, embarrement, loneliness, inadequacy, humiliation, frustration, etc?

We will all feel emotions that start with one and then lead to another. I share a “backdoor” method. It starts with us getting up and moving. Once our bodies moves, we release the stress hormone (cortisol), we start getting the good feeling hormones,  and we then tap into a prefrontal cortex. There we can start getting some mental clarity to work through our struggle.

I have used this tool in my life on a constant basis.

I share two recent experiences.

I love offering tools that have helped me to start moving forward instead of staying stuck.

This was the most unexpected race I have ever done. I was calmer than I have ever been leading into the race, especially for it being a World Championship race. Calm before the storm really proved true on Saturday morning. I wouldn’t have believed it if you’d tried to tell me beforehand what the weather would do. And how challenging it would make the course, especially because the course was made to be difficult so it earned the title of a world championship course.

Some races are a battle just because of the nature of the sport, this race added another element with the weather working against us for so much of the race.

The nagging thoughts to quit or just not care about trying my best were so loud.

The saying “When the going gets tough, the tough get going” became the theme of the race after I looked back on the details of the race.

I continued to fight and move up the ranking until the last minutes of the race.

I had a huge burst of energy toward the end of the race, and I let that carry me into the finish line. I was running so fast that my mind was willing but my body was weak, and I almost tripped on the red carpet.

It is amazing to see how determined our spirits are when things get harder and harder.

How do you go through your race of life? Do you give into the pain or stay determined?

This race will be implemented in my heart forever. The lessons I learned from Saturday will help me to keep moving when I go through the storms of life.

I share an experience where I wasn’t ok with it in the beginning. I share how within the course of 2 years I got to it is ok, and I can look back and see all the ways I changed. I can see now how it is really helping me become the person I want to be. I share some of the lesson I have learned in those 2 years.

If you aren't ok, how do you allow yourselves to go through the hurt so you can get to ok.

As you  learn that you can’t change reality, you can get to “it is ok” a lot faster.

When you start realizing you can only do your business and not others business or God business, you start realize it helps you get to inner peace. You start accepting it and figure out ways to move forward and not stay stuck.
Basically learning to accept reality helps us learn to live with less suffering.

On the podcast this week, I discuss how important it is to get Kale or in the big picture, how to get nutrient dense food in their diet vs calorie dense food.

Another thing we discuss is what happens when we don’t get the nutrient dense food in our diet, and we “fail”. We discuss what to do when we get to “what the heck”. What do you do next?

The last thing I share is when we think “what the heck” this nutrient dense food doesn’t taste as good. There is a reason for that. The artificial produced food is more concentrated, so you get a bigger hit of endorphins than the nutrient dense food. I dive into well being vs false pleasure with our food.

We get a chance every few hours to make a food choice, and we are the only ones who get to decide what goes into our mouth.

Are you trying to be perfect? How is that working for you? We often think we have to be perfect to achieve our goals.

I want to help you see all the sneaky ways “perfect” try to pull us away from becoming excellent, which is the ultimate way to reach our goals.

1- setting unrealistic goals vs setting small realistic goals

2- comparing with others vs knowing your strengths and weaknesses

3- eliminates celebrating vs celebrating along the way

4- burnouts vs readjusting along the way

5-starting lines seem like a brick wall vs starting and learning as you go

When perfectionism secretly creeps in we find ourselves missing out on celebrating the small victories. We begin to miss out on the fun life has to offer us on our way to becoming our best selves.

The book Finish by Jon Acuff dives deeper into these topics.

In this episode I talk about what it is like to take off the invisible mask. Now that the mask mandate is being lifted and we get to take off the physical mask, let take the chance to take off our invisible mask as well.

We often wear an invisible mask with our emotions.

We pretend that everything is fine.

Now that we are taking off the mask, this is a perfect time to do a reset and take off our invisible mask as well.

We can also work on not using food to mask our emotions.

The last thing I talk about is how exercise is a great place to see what it is like to live an unmasked life.

This week we discuss three points about our thoughts around “hard things”.

1- Finding evidence that you can do hard things.

2- It is just a thought, and what are you making it mean?

3 - Two questions to ask yourself:

a-Why are you choosing to call it hard?

b-Why are you willing to go through the hard?

Decide if you are “made for hard” or if you decide that “it is too hard”.

Happy one year birthday to the podcast.

On this episode I dive into how the podcast got its name, and how important the word BEYOND truly is.

When we are willing to go beyond, we are willing to see what infinite possibilities are.

I share how we work on weight loss in team elevate, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. We focus on helping our relationship with food, our bodies, and ourselves elevate.

The weight comes off and all the tools that are learned become the ways the weight stays off for good. Then we work on what your life is like beyond having to worry about another diet or losing weight.

This is the place where really freedom and empowerment comes.

I quote things for the book The  Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. It is such an insightful book.

This week on the podcast I talk about how all of us like to win or in other word feel better or good about what we are doing.

I break it down into three areas:
food
body
connection with yourself

When we choose premium fuel aka healthy food, we are having a loving relationship with food. We use food to improve our bodies

When we team up with our body and support it, then we create the results we want much quicker.  Also, when we show our body compassion we don't  stay in shame or frustration with our body.

When you learn to be "comfortable in your own skin", then you begin to see that feeding it positive fuel in the ways of your thoughts, that lead to your feeling, which is the fuel to your action, can really be the secret to winning.  You can see the an immediate result in this area when you are working out.

If you want to feel like you are winning in life, try choosing one of the three areas to improve.

Also the incline trip is scheduled for April 17th,  and a new TEAM ELEVATE will be opening in the near future.  Stay tuned.

What legacy will you leave?
Now that my mom has passed on, I have realized more and more how import her legacy is to me.
We have the chance to make an impact to those around us.
On the podcast this week, I dive into how we can start creating the ripple effect we want.
Sometimes we feel guilty or that we aren't the best mom.
I am here to shine some light on this topic. I am not a perfect mom and my mom wasn't a perfect mom, but she was the exactly the right mom for me.
I want to help each of you see,  at any given moment you can decide what you want your ripple effect to be.

I share a few  of the ripple effects and legacy my mom left behind.
- committment
-consistency
-unconditional love

It starts with looking at ourselves. Strengthen who we are as moms so we can show up to our children as our best self.  Being able to love our child right where they are, requires us to do that for ourselves as well.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I say it takes a village to raise us moms.

That is why I love the work I do as a mother and a life and weight coach.

- Be honest which thought you are really choosing to believe (i.e. I want to lose weight BUT.......) This is how you can discovery the sneaky thougths that are really sabbotogging your success.
-When creating stratagies put discomfort as part of the plan

This is one of my favorite topics.  We face over 200 food choices on a daily bases.
Learning how to manage the conflicting food choices that we each face on a daily bases can be such an amazing tool.

I talk about why cognitive dissonance makes it hard to have conflicting beliefs.
I discuss questions to ask yourself.
Then once you decide what you want to eat, take the time to review the consequences of making that choice.
Own your choice, and then you don't need to make the decision good or bad.
Food is always a part of your live, and you don't need to villanizing  it.

I will help you understand that the food choices you make are not a reflection of you, they are about what beliefs you have chosen to align with the most.

"Discomfort is the currency to your dream" Brooke Castillo
I share two kinds of discomfort: Productive Discomfort and Unproductive Discomfort.
Productive discomfort is  neccessary to evole to the next version of yourself.  It moves you forward. You  eventually get freer and freer, and you find more comfort .
Unproductive discomfort is adding more suffering to an already uncomfortable situation, and it does not move you forward. It  keeps you stuck.

The more we practice  discomfort, the more comfortable it becomes, and we learn to tolerate it better.

A few examples:
working out
healthy eating
telling the truth
saying no
honoring our own thoughts and feelings

We will all experience discomfort. What kind of discomfort will you choose?

During the holiday, it is especially important to remember that our circumstances are neutral.

On the podcast this week I will share with you three ways in which we we may confuse a fact and a story.  We often think that our circumatance are not neutral.

The first way is we have a thought loop that we think so much in our lives that we just start thinking our thoughts are true, and we don't realize it is not part of the circumstances.

The second way is we find so many others to agree with us on our thinking, that we think it is part of the circumstance.

The last way is we create evidence that proves our thought, and we think that makes it a fact.

All three of the above  examples are still just our thought and sentences in our head, and they are not the facts.

Watch what stories our brain make up about the holidays.

I share a little exercise to try.

Write down the facts  of the story and then the rest are just your thoughts.

Once we sort out the facts from the thoughts, we see that it is the thoughts that are making us feel either positive or negative, and not actually the circumstances.

This become great new because we begin to understand,  we have control over our thoughts not our circumstances.
We are actually the ones who decides if something is positive or negative.

We discuss her journey of following her dream to become a professional athlete.

Some of the things we discuss are some of the mantras she used to get back into things when setbacks came.

One thing she talks about is going toward your dreams and not resisting them.

She shares about a time after she had a big bike accident where she wondered if she would really be able to make her dream come true of becoming a professional athlete.

She decided in the beginning of 2017 that it was her year. She would say to herself "This is my year". She started racing duathlons and triathlons, and she had so much success. She won or was on the podium at every race, and due to her success, she received her pro card at the end of 2017.

We also talk about how she became a triathlete, but she didn't really know how to swim.
She offers suggestions to those who don't swim or that are afraid to start doing triathlons because of the swim.

This week I discuss a letter I wrote to myself. It is an interesting way to look at our past, and see how we have interpreted it.
Then I wrote a letter from my future self.
That is a little challenging to write because the future is a clean slate. We have to use a big imagination. If we choose to create from a place where the future is exactly like we want it, what would that look. They are all thoughts and we don't know are future, but why not image and create from a place where everything works out.
I encoourage everyone to try and write a letter to yourself. It is a powerful experience.
