I was stuck in life and didn't know what to do.  I wanted to give up.  Instead I risked it all for the opportunity to live again.  To reinvent myself.  To face the unknown without being prepared.  There was no perfect time.  The time was now.  The time was then.  How did I find the courage?  Possibly through risk.  I felt like I was in a do-or-die situation.  So I choose to DO something about it.  Two years later I return to my place of birth.  The city I first lost myself in.  Today I exist with a new lease on life.  I look at my world with a new pair of eyes.  Through the toil and struggle I came out with a new consciousness.  Through my dark knight of the soul journey abroad, I was able to kill my ego.  All I had were my intentions.  My intention to reinvent myself.  To find purpose.  To find something I believe in.  To rediscover.  I still don't have all the answers but today I feel like a new man.  Why? Because I risked it all.

It is easy to compare myself to others as I turn 40. Should I not own a house with wife and kids already? I have always lived to the best of my own drum. No matter which life you live the grass is always greener on the other side, or so we believe. I have my independence and freedoms to choose which way I go and when. Is it a selfish lifestyle? At times, but it requires a lot of personal sacrifice when it comes to my personal relationships especially while living a nomadic lifestyle abroad. But the things I get to see and people I get to meet and experiences I would never have had etc etc. I am single and perhaps may never get married, but I don’t limit myself to all possibilities, this has just been my journey. And I love hard too. Just because I am a solo journeyman doesn’t mean I don’t believe in love and partnership and community. I swear by all of these aspects of life. We learn the most about ourselves and each other when we share our lives with others. It takes courage as conflict will always arise between people who care about each other. And others we don’t know how to communicate properly with! My mental well-being has also been an incredible part of my awakening to what makes me happy and what my purpose is in life. Or just to have purpose and meaning while we discover what our bigger purpose is. But we will never know if we don’t live by growing, confronting our fears and trying new things. Taking car of ourselves so we can love and care about each other. Needless to say I am developing my voice at 40 years of age. I may look like a skater boy on the outside but I have an old wizard living inside my soul. Being honest with myself has been the most liberating experience coming into midlife. The truth shall set you free. Enjoy this week’s video podcast. ✌🏻

Why am I talking about my inner child? I feel like a big kid and trying to figure out why. Why haven’t I grown up? I feel emotionally mature. Does that help me on the outside? This is what I’m trying to navigate. How can I monetize what I have learned over the course of my 40 years. I look like a big kid. I may act like one too. I do love kids. I think we’ve all been told to grow up. Having fun as adults generally involves consumption. We seem to have accepted and culturalized consumption being what we need to let our hair down and enjoy ourselves. What happened to self expression? It is almost frowned upon. We don’t feel like we are allowed to share our thoughts and feelings. We especially don’t want to listen to negative banter. Venting is one thing. But we need to make changes if we are stuck. Otherwise we need to pay a stranger to vent and bitch to. No one else deserves to deal with our shit on an ongoing basis. We need to clean it up ourselves. And not all of us have the tools to do that. So outside of getting wasted or using consumption as our escapism, what are we doing to express ourselves?

These are my top 10 tips to discovering my inner child.

Seriously, are you ghosting on people? Have you heard of karma? Consider picking up the phone to break your chain of bad luck by breaking up, better!  Why should you listen to me? You probably shouldn't but I am constantly trying to soften the blow at the end of any relationship.   I'm actually horrible at ending things!  This is advice to myself that I'm sharing with you.    But communication is key to a healthy relationship, even to help get closer when it is time to move on.    Basically, if you have been out on more than a couple dates and slept together, I think it warrants a phone call, no?  Otherwise you enter that one-night stand karma that doesn't leave one person feeling great.    But who the hell am I to say? Lets just say I have broken up a lot. I'll leave it at that.    What are your thoughts?  Find me...  instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kalenhayman/linked_in: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kalenhayman/website: http://kalenhayman.com https://twitter.com/kalenhayman Tools used to make this video:  iPhone 11 Max Pro Zoom Recorder Fostex Condenser Microphone Adobe Spark graphic design app

Don't be surprised if you fall in love with Sunshine Embassy.  This coliving community in Palma de Mallorca, Spain is designed for what their founder, Paula Bublay calls Impact Creators.  This sustainable space is full of intention for entrepreneurs to make a difference.  While I normally record these podcasts for my series on Spotify, I decided this episode deserved a video for all to see this magical place and the spirit of their operator.  With white horses, olive trees, a swimming pool and curated members it was hard not to find my way overseas just a few weeks after recording this.

Battling with depression is something I have come to realize I will face for the rest of my lifetime.  It's what and how I choose to do with it is really up to me.  Moving into community living, in sunny southern California worked wonders for me.  Specifically in HAVEN co-living.  Branded as a health & wellness community, I found like-minded people to enjoy my day-to-day life with.  People who were happy to wake-up and engage with each other over coffee, work, exercise, beach or activities.  Anything is possible in HAVEN, at least that is the vibe when living amongst 100 housemates across four properties and eight houses!  This is me at my peek happiness.  A good three months of it which in depression, is equal to a lifetime.  Something I won't trade for the world.  I can only share my experience and promote this style of living for anyone who is struggling with their own happiness.  Please share and tell a friend!
