Annamh - the Irish word for rare, as I appreciate a podcast episode is a rare thing from me these days - so rare in fact that I missed out on my decade anniversary. This podcast is in fact 11 years old this month!
Could it really have been named anything else? Subsequently I finally found some time to do another episode - its been, a very long time. So much has happened.
I hope the attached sounds find you well and avoiding any evil organisms trying to make a home in you. What a weird time on Earth hey!?
As a weapon of mass distraction I have created this mix to while away some hours with. Lots of classic reworks, all smashed in with some new beasts.
I have got massively in to Techy uplifting sounds of late so be prepared for some dark driving beats with a crescendo of Hard Trance. It is of course still the usual journey but there is a distinct edge of raving in a filthy warehouse somewhere in East London to the sounds of Techno. Something I and I am sure many others are craving.
So, join me in saying 'FUCK OFF CORONAVIRUS' - Hopefully see you guys on the other side of this temporary apocalypse. Now, back to reorganising my sock drawer, whilst bangin' out the tunes....

Are you ready for a descent in to utter chaos? Well, here is the soundtrack to take you there in the form of my 137th episode. It isn't all disorder mind you; within you will find symmetry within the disarray and order within the disorder.
I have found some absolute belters which cross the whole spectrum of my usual trancey journeys. I have made an effort to make sure there are plenty of classic tunes alongside some real up to date bangers in this episode. I have also been sure to try and find the ones which were a little bit more unsung - delivering those hooky goods along the way, I have even found a Stranger Things remix!
As suggested this is a journey to the chaotic harder sounds - courtesy of some Yoji and Scot Project classics. I spent many an eve when these were new immersing my poor brain in utter chaos and they seemed a fitting end.

It is FINALLY here - episode 135!
Do you ever get tingles and chills when listening to Trance, or any music? I do, seriously; goosebumps galore.
Music is in fact able to trigger physiological responses in some people - usually this is a pleasurable phenomena and can vary in intensity. No two people will likely feel these shivers in exactly the same way so and no two tracks will give the exact same response, in essence music creates a unique experience for all of us, track by track, tingles or no tingles.
If you experience these chills - there is some science to suggest that your brain is wired up a bit differently and you may percieve the world in an alternative way to many people... One study by a Harvard student found that "people who get a shiver up their spine have more fibers connecting their auditory cortex to brain areas associated with emotional processing. This lets the two areas communicate better and means that people who get the chills experience intense emotions differently from those who don’t".
The reason behind this - as per with neuroscience isn't really understood, interestingly in addition, there doesn't seem to be any evolutionary need for it. Something just wonderfully weird and that personally helps shape my own subjective experience with music... Here's hoping you get those tingles listening to this mix!
It was a recording sesh that took me back to my roots and to a proper set of decks and mixer at last. A 2 hr and 23 minute marathon mix - I didn't want to stop, even though I had sore feet and the fact I was invading some good friend's house to record it! I was very much enjoying the sorely missed FX unit that has been lacking for so long.
Anyway, enjoy the journey from progressive to uplifting to some dark tech trance. Got some reet CHOONS including some current bangers, some brilliant remixes and some all time classics!

Welcome to Ra - namesake of the Egyptian Sun God as well, as it happens - one of my all time favourite tracks which I have finally got hold of via the legend that is Louk... to be discovered for you maybe, but I first heard it on Euphoria Pure from the year 2000 and fell in love with it - its no speaker jumper by todays standards but I adore it.

Episode 131, this is 'The Legend' - I actually got it done, and nearly a month after the last episode! HUZZAHHHH!
It's a bit of an eclectic one, some old, some new and some right randomers - I have been feeling all the tracks, one in particular which isn't really Trance is Bicep - Glue. Its got some gorgeous uplift to it, and some incredibly oldskool vibes - almost melancholy, I like it though. I have even got a classic Tiesto track in there - from his some of his GREATEST days - admittedly this is the far superior Antillas version!
In usual fashion its a winder upper - from 122BPM to 142BPM - Progressive Trance through to Hard Trance - with some early 00's sounds to finish on.

I have got some rather lovely remixes of a few all time classics, including a 1998 version of Luvstruck by a certain Timo Maas - Techno loveliness, that just doesn't seem to age. I have also got some new gems hidden with within - Davey Asprey is on point at the moment and featured twice in this episode with Sunbreaker and Fallout, as is the legendary Chris Schweizer.

Here is the latest episode in the FranetiC podcast saga - 'Bintang' the Indonesian word for star, taking you on yet another cosmic journey through Trance
Hey guys - since the move to Podbean a few of my most popular mixes have dropped off iTunes - so at a request I am uploading this episode from my series Brief History of Trance (Only two of them!), the first ever one I did back in 2011. It was my most popular episode ever getting nearly a million downloads on Podomatic. It features some of my all time favourite classics mixed chronologically from 1993 to 2011.

Of course Trance goes back to the Acid House era in its earliest forms, being heard from about the mid eighties. But the sound really came to fruition in my opinion when Paul Van Dyk released his remix of Humate - Love Stimulation in 1993, definitely the pioneer of the current sound, bringing the european sound completely to the forefront of the trance scene. I have recorded a mix in complete chronological order, with one track selected from each year since 1993 up to the present day. All my own personal preferences and aren't necessarily actual number one tracks from each year, although most of course are recognised and were hits in the scene in various forms over the years. And the cover of course drawing a little inspiration from Stephen Hawkings book, a Brief History of Time.....

I am back from an amazing adventure to Indonesia - one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, both landscape and people.
A History of Trance returns with the second instalment - 2011 was the last edition, journeying from 1993 to 2011. This new episode is a bit of a monster - prepare for some commitment for the next 2.5 hours! I have returned, after a pretty life changing break away it has to be said. I have been working hard on my career and I have missed being able to have the time to escape to do this stuff.
I wanted to start my return to podcasting with a new project I am going to undertake. Something which includes styles of music I find myself listening to more and more. This project is 'Hiram's Highway'. Focusing more on electronica, chilled vibes more designed to bring you down to a comforting pillow than send you sky high.

A local hero to Devon hailing from London originally Tom has had his fair share of DJ globe trotting adventures and residencies. So honoured to have one of my DJ heros from over the years to feature in this guest mix. :)
Bio.....
With a true passion for music alongside a well-developed taste in all genres, an energising stage presence and the ability to read perfectly his audience, its common knowledge that TOM COSTELLOE has got the art of DJ’ing to a standard that’s hard to beat...
He started DJ’ing in 1987, playing out at local pubs and clubs, and doing Weddings, Birthdays ETC. His natural talent was soon spotted and in 1991 he was offered a weekly residency at FUTURES a House club in Deptford (London). Futures soon outgrew its venue and Tom linked up with Bernie Sinclair & Sean McClusky of LOVE RANCH who began the now infamous CLUB UK and Tom became resident of these events from 1992...
In the Summer of 1995 Tom was asked to become resident for LOVE RANCH at SPACE (Ibiza) on Thursday Mornings. Tom impressed several promoters on the island and was approached to play the legendary SPACE on Sunday mornings supporting the likes of Brandon Block and Alex P, and proved his versatility with set’s both inside and on the terrace. Whilst in Ibiza Tom Also played for SIGN OF THE TIMES, at many of the SUNRISE parties and at CAFÉ MAMBO and was also headlining at many of the smaller San Antonio clubs.
Back in the UK Tom Continued to Play for SIGN OF THE TIMES as the main resident, this time based in London at THE ROCKET. And 1998 saw further visits to Ibiza where Tom played for SUNNY SIDE UP at ES PARIDIS, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, and the now infamous GODSKITCHEN at AMNESIA where he made 6 appearances as a resident which continued the following year.
In 2000 Tom relocated to Devon as resident and promoter of EYECON at the DANCE ACADEMY, PLYMOUTH - playing alongside some of the world’s most talented and most wanted DJ’S, booking the artist's for this event and putting his unique slant on the line up's - you could never say it was all about one style, more like a mish mash of several! And that's the way TOM liked it!
This popular Saturday night event boasted a weekly attendance of 1200+ and an ever-growing group of dedicated followers that crammed the cavernous club almost full to capacity every week, all waiting for the time when TOM hit the decks with his weekly assault of upfront and classic tunes – basically
YOU knew when TOM COSTELLOE was on!!!
EYECON @ the Dance Academy was voted club of the year (regional) in MIXMAG in 2004 and received several similar accolades in music publications such as DJ mag, Muzik and Ministry Magazines.
Tom, accompanied by MANOCH BAHMANZADEH (owner) both turned the DANCE ACADEMY in Plymouth into one of the most respected and much loved events in the UK, and it’s sad loss still continues to this day...

A techy feast to sink your ears in to for this months guest mix, presenting RAZE (Neil Castle) he has graced the decks at many events across the South West UK for years, his mix is proof of this guys skill in tune selection and mixing..... Enjoy! xXx
DJ Raze debuted in the South West in 1993, a few months on from when he first ever touched a pair of record decks. The Plymouth Warehouse proved to be of a huge influence with Raze diligently collecting the records he had heard every week from the big names he saw. This passion and enthusiasm lead to a set playing for Speed Promotions alongside Slipmatt, and a chance encounter following this meant he also span an impromptu set at the legendary Plymouth Pavilions for long standing rave promoters 'Obsessed' From Hardcore, as the years went on, the progression into Trance followed, and Raze landed a set at 'Bossanova' (Sound Factory) and continued to play for some years before taking a short break to raise his family. Now to the present, and the mixing bug has been caught again, with Raze holding residencies for TranceFormNation (Exeter) and Liquid Pulse (Plymouth), where he has performed alongside Mark EG, M-Zone, Signum, Joey Riot, Nick The Kid, Kidd Kaos, Tek-Tonic and many more.

Nick King is a Glasgow based DJ, he started his musical journey at the tender age of 13 when first listening to an old tape of his father from the famous 90s rave Fantazia. He the progressed into old school rave and house music going to as many events as possible. At the age of 15 he bought a second hand pair of old vinyl decks and that's were it all begun! His passion for music he says runs through his blood! He has played in one of Glasgow's west end most prestiges clubs and is now starting on his production career with his first single coming soon. Its guest mix time again, and may I present to you some local legends to me brothers and duo Luke and Joel Heaton. A truly epic trance mix for you this week from these two. Shall be gracing the white isle with both of them for the Hindsight Pres. Island Of Trance week in Ibiza this coming Sept so if you are there between 9th to 16th sept keep your eyes peeled for us.

Luke and Joel Heaton bio.....
In 2001 at the tender age of 14 these two boys were introduced to the hard dance scene thanks to listening to Mark EG and M Zone tapes passed down from older friends and siblings, this was the start of their musical ambition which has progressed massively over the years.
Although both underage Luke and Joel started to attend dance events such as Slinky when they were just 16, this then progressed to bigger nights out and to a wider selection of different dance music genres up and down the country, as their love and passion for the music grew so did their interest in mixing.
The main musical focal points in the Luke and Joels sets are Trance and Hardtrance; however their abilitys to be able play almost anything has also seen them rock dance floors with House, Hardstyle and European Hardcore, this is something they feel is necessary these days as it opens more doors and allows them to play more freely.
In 2010 dreams became reality when the boys were asked by Nick the Kid to play in Ibiza for Hindsight, this saw them playing in some major clubs, one of them being the mighty Eden, where they played for Judgement Sundays alongside a star studded line up of DJs they could only dream of. As well as playing for other huge nights such as Tidy in Ibiza, they have also rocked pool parties and various other clubs and bars on the White Isle and gained themselves a fan base of people. They have since been back twice to play in Ibiza, this includes Hindsight’s massive September 2011 trip – An Island of Trance. Luke and Joel are thrilled to have been asked to return to Ibiza in 2012, In June and September which will see them play at some of the worlds biggest clubs and alongside some of the worlds biggest DJs yet again.
The duo's ambitions don't stop at mixing, however, they have also been working extremely hard on the production side of music. In 2011 they visited the Organ Donors studio and produced a track with them which has been released on Implosion Digital, they have also spent time with other local producers, having a more hands on approach and learning different styles which they hope will open up new ideas and visions to the pair until they are satisfied with creating that sound and feel they both love.
With Future sounds hosting a range of nights, and them both starting to become regular faces for Hindsight, not forgetting to mention the pairs return to Ibiza in June and September as well as many more other events to be playing for this year, the pair have come a long way from that first set in an empty room. They continue to work hard at what they love and push themselves in their mixing and producing, 2012 is set to be yet another amazing year for the Heatons!

Kate Remington is an aspiring female DJ with passion and talent in equal measures. Her love affair with dance music started at the tender age of 11, when she would save her pocket money to buy Hardcore tape packs. 1999, saw Kate's introduction to the clubbing scene, watching Paul Oakenfold, at the Mezzanine, Wolverhampton, and she has been a dedicated festival and club goer ever since. Her more personal involvement started at the age of 19, when she bought a set of turntables, and started to build up an impressive vinyl collection, initially playing mainly Hard-House and Hard-Trance. In the last couple of years, Kate has played predominately Trance with a Techno edge. She lists her influences as Markus Schulz, Mark Simz, Bart Claessen, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, BK, Andy Farley and Dave Clarke. Kate had a stonking start to playing out in clubs, with an incredible opening set at Rong Manchester in May 2011! February's guest mix, this month local legend Aaron Cook takes to the decks for us, with a Touch Prog & Electro House mix.
In his short but sharp rise in his Djing career Aaron is going from strength to strength! Building a good reputation for his tight flawless mixing and excellent knowlege and selection of tunes, he definately knows how to read what the crowd wants.
After winning the Crash Manor Dj Competition in February last year year he then went on to become a weekly resident there playing progressive and tech trance for the night Crash @ Crash Manor which hosted many big name DJs including Guiseppe Ottaviani, Simon Patterson, Sean Tyas, Richard Durand and many more!.
Unfortunately the night shut down due to change in music policy but since then he has begun to play regular all over the south west. Aaron has also had recent regular gigs playing in the 103 bar and the Baby Box rooms of the world famous Ministry of Sound and two recent gigs at the 02 Academy Brixton, both based in London While playing there he has played on the same lineups as big names like Worlds Number 1 Armin Van Buuren, Eddie Halliwell, Jochen Miller, Seb Fontaine, Fabio, Jordan Suckley. Markus Schulz, Andy Moor, Above and Beyond, Mauro Picotto, Mat Zo, Daniel Portman, Jaytech, Stefano Noferini and many more!
2011 has been a great year so far, wilth Aaron playing again at Ministry of Sound and the 02 Academy Brixton for Armin Van Buurens tour, he also has played twice in Ibiza this year, playing for popular scottish brand Rectify and also Vicky Devines night Ultraviolet.

Seem to have a slight theme running here with all the classics, but they are always worth a re run, especially these. All my previous Hard Dance podcasts have mainly focused on the European sound, this one is sticking strictly to the UK hard Trance sound with its roots based mainly in Hard House. Bit of a focus on the Riot Brothers in this mix, in my opinion they produced some of the best tracks of this Genre so thought I would overdose on them slightly for this podcast!!

Of course Trance goes back to the Acid House era in its earliest forms, being heard from about the mid eighties. But the sound really came to fruition in my opinion when Paul Van Dyk released his remix of Humate - Love Stimulation in 1993, definitely the pioneer of the current sound, bringing the european sound completely to the forefront of the trance scene. I have recorded a mix in complete chronological order, with one track selected from each year since 1993 up to the present day. All my own personal preferences and aren't necessarily actual number one tracks from each year, although most of course are recognised and were hits in the scene in various forms over the years. And the cover of course drawing a little inspiration from Stephen Hawkings book, a Brief History of Time.....

Sorry for the extreme delay in getting this latest episode out to you! Been working extra hard to earn enough spending cash for my travels planned this September, including 1 week of DJing on the White Isle that is IBIZA! Episode 16 for you now, Ive decided to dedicate this weeks mix to one of my all time favourite clubs that I used to go to from 2002 to 2006 when it closed down, The Dance Academy in plymouth was running as I knew it for about 15 years, all the classics I have in my mix are from the years when I attended (2002 to 2006) a mix of Hard Trance, Hard House and Hardstyle, a real mix of all my own personal favourite Academy tracks that got me up stomping about in that amazing place.....Incase you dont know what dance academy was, It was one of the best night clubs I have ever been too, it was in a converted Victorian Theatre in Plymouth, Devon.
