Horeseshoe theory asserts that on any given spectrum (politics, religion, etc.), the closer you get to the end of the spectrum (the extremes) tend to resemble the opposite more than than others on the same side. I.e facism resembles communism more than say a moderate conservative.
In this episode we discuss the implications of this, how much truth there is (or isn’t) behind it, and touch briefly on morality, extremism and more! Listen to the episode then let us know what you think on instagram @sherwinbrothersshow or on alotabitofeverything.com
Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s book Antifragile was mentioned in this book for his quote, “at the national level I’m a libertarian, at the state level I’m a republican, at the city level I’m a democrat, and in my home I’m a socialist.”
Episode 5 of the Sherwin Brothers Show is all about Dungeons and Dragons, which Austin started playing recently, and Tyler has played for several years.
While mostly thought of as a fantasy game for the exceptionally nerdy, Dungeons and Dragons has seen a surge in recent popularity thanks to the television show Stranger Things. It is also being used to help kids with autism develop social skills, friendships, and social awareness!
Listen to the episode and let us know your thoughts on instagram.
Dating in the modern world brings its own intricacies- such as learning all about your date before you even meet them. For example, Tyler recently met a girl on Tinder who then instagram stalked him and learned he had a podcast, through which she could learn a lot of vulnerable things bout him without ever meeting him in person...
In this episode we go into social media dating, dating apps, the struggles, and the pros and cons of being so connected while trying to find a mate.
This was also the first time we live-stream-recorded the Sherwin Brother Show, and we’d like to thank @grizzlybarrus and @martelethan for their input and participation. Follow us on instagram and youtube to find out when the next episode will be recorded so you can chime in and participate!

“Vision without action is a daydream;
action without vision is a nightmare.”
- Japanese Proverb
This proverb applies to just any goal, desire, and life situation. Vision without action could be keeping you from achieving your dreams or becoming the person you’d like to be. Action without vision is at the root of addictions, bad relationships, and monotony.
Listen in as we discuss this parable and the personal ways we’ve been affected by these two truisms including pornography addictions, phone use, relationships and more.
In what other aspects have you seen this proverb affect your life? What tools and methods do you use to fuse the two into harmony? What motivates you to action when you have a vision? What helps you stop acting without vision?
We’d love to hear your thoughts here or on Instagram!

The idea for this discussion comes from Ray Dalio’s book Principles by Ray Dalio. He shows a spectrum like this:
“You can stay where you are and have a comfortable life or traverse the jungle and have a great life.” - Ray Dalio
What does it mean to accomplish? How do we measure our accomplishments, and what makes something an accomplishment vs. a hobby or waste of time? Is it possible to both savor life and accomplish? Is the goal of accomplishment to arrive at a point where we can savor more?
**We discuss these questions, as well as related stories and examples in this episode.
