Courteney Stuart is a veteran journalist who’s spent the past twenty years covering crime and criminal justice issues in Central Virginia. A broadcast journalist since 2015, Courteney previously served as an investigative reporter and editor-in-chief at two weekly newspapers in Charlottesville. Beetle James has seen a recent virality on social media when she detailed her story of living through the troubled teen industry, a group of organizations that utilize extreme boot camp style measures to address at risk youth with behavioral issues. While many of the programs are promoted as victorious and life changing, Beetle’s experiences were quite the opposite. Spending nearly a year and a half away from her parents in camp led to physical, mental, and emotional trauma, and she details the events leading up to and after her completion of the program. She now uses her online presence of over 184,000 followers on tiktok to spread awareness about the dangers of the troubled teen industry, and the impact that clear communication amongst family can have in dissolving the need for this industry in the first place. Julian Brown took it upon himself to use his love for the environment and develop a microwave pyrolisis reactor, a device that recycles any type of carbon matter into fuels like natural gas, diesel, and jet fuel.
He started this project without any formal training or knowledge of chemical engineering, and begun his research using google searches.
His device has evolved through 5 generations, and his Mark V prototype has potential to create enough fuel to power a building.
His goal to combat plastic waste in the great pacific garbage patch has had its trials and tribulations, though. He has survived explosions, angry social media comments, and legal troubles in his effort to solve the plastic recycling problem.

While reading an article about the efforts made to offer eyeglasses to people in third world countries, Greg and his partner devised an efficient and cost-effective method of giving eye exams to those less fortunate.
The exam takes seconds, and has improved the quality of life for people in underserved communities around the globe. His program recently went viral on Tiktok when he gave an eye exam and had a pair of glasses prepared in under 3 minutes, at a cost of roughly $3 USD.

Since 2017, Banks and her merry group of volunteers have been delighting children with terminal illnesses across the United States and internationally, all while she is also working on her own personal nursing degree.
According to the national cancer institute, each year in the United States, an estimated 1 in 285 children will be diagnosed with Cancer before their 20th birthday.
As difficult as this news is to receive for an adult, learning this as a child is not only difficult to understand, but also starts a path of treatment that is draining both emotionally and physically.

Kyria Whisenhunt is the executive director of Paws4People, a North Carolina based nonprofit that aims to educate and empower people through the use of assistance dogs to transform people's lives.
The nonprofit was formed in 1999, when Kyria was just 12 years old, with the purpose of using dogs to help people.
Over the last 22 years, the organization has helped veterans, people with disabilities, and children and adolescents with physical, neurological, psychiatric, and/or emotional disabilities in 22 states, with placement nationwide.
Kyria was a 2010 Glamour Magazine Woman of the Year finalist; the winner of the 2011 IKEA Life Improvement contest; the winner of WILMA Magazine’s Women to Watch in 2014; the National Points of Light award in 2015; and the 2017 Coastal Entrepreneur Award – Non-profit in 2017. Kyria was also a finalist for the YWCA Women of Achievement in the Non-Profit category in 2021.
Kyria serves as Executive Director of paws4people. She is the Program Director and Instructor of the University of North Carolina Wilmington Assistance Dog Training Minor, the first and only comprehensive Assistance Dog academic certificate program at a state university. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.

Elizabeth Fisher Good is the co-founder and CEO of Selah Freedom and The Selah Way Foundation, an organization that helps free women from the sex trade and provide a safe housing environment for the victims of this life. Rick Bateman is the owner of Outer Banks Mixed Martial Arts, a combat sports gym in Nags Head, NC.
