In today's episode of The Personal Branding Podcast, I'm joined by writer, speaker, and transformational storyteller Jason W. Miller — a man who, until November 2025, had never posted a single thing on social media.

When Jason and I first spoke in October of that year, he had one goal: I have a story I've been carrying for over two decades, and I think it's finally time to share it.

Three months later, he had nearly 20,000 followers on Instagram, a growing TikTok community, a launched website, and a columnist from the New York Times in his DMs.

This conversation is one of the most honest we've had on the show about what it actually feels like to share something deeply personal in public for the very first time at 51, with no platform, no roadmap, and everything to lose.

We talked about:

  • why it's never too late to tell your story
  • what made his first video resonate with hundreds of thousands of people
  • and what it really takes to show up as a first-time creator when the stakes feel impossibly high

If you've ever wondered whether your story still matters, or whether the world actually needs to hear it, this episode is for you.

When I first met Colette Fehr, she had no platform and no social media presence, just a book idea she deeply believed in. Nearly three years later, that decision has turned into a literary agent and a book deal with Penguin Random House.

In this episode, Colette shares the full behind-the-scenes story of how it happened — from writing the book in early morning hours, to staying in touch with the agent who initially told her “not yet,” to building a platform in her 50s despite feeling overwhelmed, exposed, and unsure if anyone was paying attention.

We talk about the emotional side of building a platform, why persistence mattered more than talent, and how believing in her work before anyone else did changed everything.

If you’ve ever wanted to write a book, share your work, or build something meaningful, this episode is a reminder that staying in the game can change your life.

In this conversation, I talk with bestselling poet Jennae Cecelia, whose words have reached over 16 million readers worldwide through her viral poem I Met My Younger Self for Coffee.

We met in Boston earlier this year, and I left our conversation feeling deeply inspired by her story — how she’s built a thriving creative career through consistency, faith, and a willingness to evolve. From self-publishing 13 books to signing with Simon & Schuster partner Andrews McMeel, Jennae opens up about what it really takes to keep showing up for your work when it feels like no one’s watching.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The reality of staying creative and relevant in an ever-changing online world
  • How Jennae turned her love of words into a full-time career as a poet
  • The behind-the-scenes of self-publishing, including how she hit #1 on Amazon
  • Her strategies for growing an audience on Instagram and TikTok
  • The “postpartum blues” of publishing a book and how to move through it
  • Why showing up imperfectly still matters more than waiting until you’re ready

If you’ve ever felt discouraged about your art or unsure whether your work is making an impact — this conversation will remind you why it’s worth it to keep going.

After dropping her boyfriend at the airport for a month-long trip, Olivia Yokubonis recorded a late-night voiceover about autonomy in relationships — how important it is to keep discovering yourself, even when you’re with someone. By morning, the video had a million views.

In this episode, Olivia shares how that moment of honesty became the catalyst for building a personal brand rooted in storytelling. We talk about what makes a video truly captivating, why specificity matters more than perfection, and how she transformed heartbreak into a thriving community of 127K+ followers.

If you’ve ever wondered how to find your voice online, or had doubts about whether your story is worth telling, this conversation will change the way you think about creating.

What does it really take to turn a personal story into a book you’re proud to share with the world? In this episode, I sit down with my editor and dear friend, Elena, to unpack the messy, magical process of transforming Lonely Girl from Substack serialization to a finished print book.

We talk about what it’s really like to edit a memoir, how to know when a story is ‘done,’ the difference between writing and refining, and why honoring your reader is as important as honoring your art.

In this episode, I sit down with content creator and photographer Jordan Loufas, whose cozy, relatable vlogs have helped her build a deeply connected and loyal community online. We talk about how she grew her platform from scratch, starting with playful TikToks during the pandemic and finding real connection after opening up about her eating disorder. Jordan shares what it was like going viral overnight, how she handles criticism, and why the block button is her best friend.

We also dive into what it really means to be relatable online, how to turn ordinary life into creative art, and why you don’t need a niche to grow a loyal following... just a willingness to be fully yourself.

Whether you're a new creator wondering how to start, or a seasoned one rethinking your relationship with social media, this conversation will remind you: there are no rules. You’re allowed to evolve. And your personality is your brand.

Topics We Cover:

  • The moment Jordan’s content started taking off
  • Sharing personal stories online (and handling the backlash)
  • Building confidence on camera—farts, flaws, and all
  • Creating without a content calendar
  • Letting your identity evolve beyond your job
  • The myth of the niche—and what to focus on instead
  • Why people crave realness over perfection

Victoria Mitchell, COO of Good Party, openly talked about her decision to freeze her eggs, and the complications that came with it, on social media. Her latest series, "My Egg Freezing Journey" has reached millions of people on Instagram and TikTok.

I was curious:

What led her to share this story? And how was able to transform a deeply personal journey into a viral sensation?

After pouring countless hours into the project with little to no reward, she almost gave up. But the fifth video, which she admittedly 'phoned in', was the turning point. After that, the series blew up.

Victoria's story shows us that sometimes, our most compelling stories are the ones that emerge from our most authentic experiences, no matter how complex or paradoxical they may seem.

The hardest part? Being brave enough to share them.

Victoria P. Mitchell is a Chief Operating Officer and content creator who’s on a mission to reveal the paradoxes behind our ability to make a deep, lasting impact. You can find her sharing her journey @victoriapmitchell with her 10k+ followers on Instagram and TikTok. She shares even more insights with her email list – learn more at www.victoriapmitchell.com.

Ahhh consistency, the thing that everyone wants and no one seems to have ;) Except, I think we do. I think we are more consistent than we give ourselves credit for. Let’s be kinder and more gentle with ourselves when it comes to accomplishing the goals we set for our lives. Let’s look at consistency in a wider context. Instead of asking, “How consistent have I been this week?”  Try asking, “How consistent have I been this year?” Give ourselves grace when we fall short and s support one another when sharing the things in our lives we want to work on. In today's episode, I am talking about consistency: how I’ve managed to stay consistent with exercise, nutrition, and content creation for my personal brand. And how you can, too.

In this episode, I sit down with Katrina Palanca, a former 1:1 client of mine. We talk about her journey to discovering herself outside of work; how she left her role at Twitch and accepted a VP position at her dream organization: The San Antonio Spurs. We also discuss “grinding”, leadership, and what she attributes her success to.

Katrina says, “There is no reason this should’ve landed in my lap.”

“I was creative about how I reached out to people and resourceful about the skills I proactively learned and added to my toolkit. I think this applies to any industry... if you want it enough, you can find a way to get there.”

I share that I am highly impressed by Katrina’s determination to ‘do the work.’ After all, it takes immense courage to share your story, build a personal website, and put yourself out there.

Katrina says, “I believe everyone knows what they can be good at and everyone knows what they want out of life. I think you know exactly what you want.”

If you’re unsure whether you’re ready to do 'that thing', this may be your sign to stop saying sorry, believe in your greatness, and build your personal brand. The world needs to hear what you have to say.

There are four important habits you MUST develop if you want to build a successful personal brand and gain traction on social media. If you’re already practicing them, I’m willing to bet that personal branding will come very naturally for you. If you aren’t, there’s good news: you’ve still got time. The catch is… you have to be self-aware enough to know which parts of yourself are weaker and underdeveloped.

We all have blind spots. The most important thing you can do is be aware of them and make changes to improve yourself. Make no mistake, this is lifelong work. But it’s lifelong work we can work on together…and hey, it really does help to be a part of a supportive community like Personal Brand Accelerator.

We’ve heard it time and time again, “My PBA group is what helped me keep going even when I lacked confidence in myself.” Building your personal brand is more than just getting up and running. It takes a lot of hard work and emotional stamina to keep going. This is why we encourage you to lean on the PBA community for knowledge, wisdom, and the support you need to keep going. Without further ado….here are the four habits…

HABIT #1: RADICAL SELF-ACCEPTANCE

HABIT #2: UNSHAKEABLE SELF-CONFIDENCE

HABIT #3: RELENTLESS SELF-DISCIPLINE

HABIT #4: REAL SELFLESSNESS

This week I read a book called, ‘On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction’ by William Zinsser. It’s the best book I’ve read all year. To write well is one of the greatest challenges people face while building their personal brand. Everything you do for your personal brand involves the practice of writing; i.e, creating Instagram captions, voice over scripts, blog posts, emails, and most importantly, the copy on your personal website. If I had a nickel for every time I heard, “But Anna, I’m just not a good writer, can I hire someone to do it for me?” I would be a very wealthy woman and I still wouldn’t hire anyone to do it for you.

Here’s why:

The more you resist writing for your personal brand, the more difficult this process will be for you. Good writing takes you where you want to go. It helps you sell your products and services and attracts the right people and opportunities to your brand. Bottom line: when you write well, you speak well. And speaking well gives you a deeper sense of self-confidence and assurance needed to be successful online.

So how does one write well even when they don’t feel like it? How do you write copy that sounds like “you” and also positions you as the credible thought leader in your field? It starts with writing the copy for your personal website. This episode will teach you how.

What is a visual identity? We define it as a cohesive collection of graphical elements that are chosen intentionally to bring your personal brand to life. The purpose of a visual identity is to create an emotional impression on your audience and inform your Ideal Brand Adopter about the essence of who you are and the many different aspects of your personality and professional expertise.

During the process of creating your visual identity, you will select a color palette, typography, and mood words to describe the way you want people to feel when they see your brand. In today’s post, I’ll teach you how to select your own color palette without knowing color theory or being a professional designer.

Perhaps you’ve been faced with the challenge of writing a personal brand statement. I know writing about yourself can be challenging, but take comfort in knowing this can be a relatively painless process if you approach it in the right way and with the right attitude.

Step one, repeat after me, I am a good writer. You’ve got to believe it, baby. Believe it!

Simply put, a personal brand statement is what you do. A personal mission statement is why your personal brand exists. What’s the purpose of your brand? What are you trying to accomplish by having a personal brand and sharing your content with others? That’s what a mission statement should address. Here’s an example of my statements:

Personal Brand Statement:
“I teach entrepreneurs how to build their personal brand.”

Personal Mission Statement:
“To help entrepreneurs build authentic personal brands.”

Personal Vision Statement:
"That every entrepreneur would know who they are and live that truth out loud."

You might be afraid to build your personal brand for fear you aren't “expert” enough. Perhaps you  assume that a deep level of professional expertise is a prerequisite for creating content on social media. Without one, someone might mistake you for an influencer. Gasp! ;) Listen, I understand. You may have a story you want to share with others, but if you don’t have any real level of professional expertise, is it pointless to build a personal brand? Absolutely not. Take heart in knowing you don’t have to share educational content on social media to have a credible personal brand. Everyone has to start somewhere. If you’re a person who wants to serve others, share what’s true for you, and tap that creativity muscle, you will find immense joy and satisfaction from creating content consistently and engaging with an audience who is interested in who you are and what you do. It may just be easier than you think. Here’s what to keep in mind while you discover your purpose and build your personal brand.
