Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: My Sweet and Sour Room by Icicle. This is an instrumental track by Montreal artist Icicle; I found this by looking at similar artists to Lower Loveday from last week's episode. I don't normally pick out instrumental tracks, but I really liked the beat and instrument choice in this song. Icicle is actually Krassy Halatchev, and has Bulgarian origins. I think you can really hear some of his influences come through in this track. You can follow him on Jamendo or icicle dot club.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: You Could've Been My Queen by Lower Loveday. This great indie track brought me back to the early 2000's indie scene with great British bands like Arctic Monkeys, or The Fratellis. Lower Loveday is indeed a British group, and got their start in a school talent show. They've been all around the UK and the world, and are making some great music. Aside from this week's track I also recommend Is It Right, currently one of their more popular tracks on Jamendo. You can find them online at lower love day dot com.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Problems by The DLX. Problems is an R&B-leaning pop track from American artist The DLX, based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. No albums on Jamendo, but there are three singles you can check out. I liked this one for its simple beat and lyrics. Find out more about The DLX at the dlx dot net.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Wild by The Rabbits. Wild is a quiet folk track from "Tall Pines and Tangled Vines", a 2018 debut LP by The Rabbits. The Rabbits hail from the UK, but are listed as Canadian on Jamendo - probably because they recorded their record at Orchid Studios in Vancouver, B-C - and they are also touring around Canada. Apparently they're doing this from a van they've been living in for almost a year. That's dedication to their music! Follow them on Jamendo or at the rabbits dot com.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Don't Wait by The Halt. What do you know - another track out of the US. This time, The Halt: a rock group that formed in 2017 featuring Neil Matharoo (from the band Soundstatues) and Andrew Schwartz, both from Brooklyn. They don't have any albums on Jamendo, but they do have four singles at the time of recording. Don't Wait is a good mix of alternative and grunge, leaning more on the alt rock spectrum. You can buy their music at the halt dot band camp dot com.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: All I need is You by Semmuel. This track features some dark synth sounds and I think fits right alongside today's Top 40 songs. Semmuel is a hip hop / R&B artist based out of the U-S. From Jamendo: his music career began in 2017 when he signed with Graphic Entertainment Music, and eventually released a solo song "Athena" in June of that year - it was featured as Jamendo's artist of the month.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Boomerang by HoneyChrome. Boomerang is a great pop track, released in 2018 by an American artist, based on Brooklyn N-Y-C. I find it really reminiscent of early 2000's pop, with a bit of eighties flair mixed in. It's a fun, short track and well worth following to see what he comes out with for 2019!

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Undercover by Neon Niteclub. This group reminds me a ton of Canada's own Chromeo. Neon Niteclub is from the US, and describe themselves as "80s pop with a modern twist". Undercover comes from the 2018 album Blue Electric Eyes (be sure to check out that track as well). You can find their music on jamendo dot com or neon niteclub dot bandcamp dot com.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: By Your Side by Cartel ft. Mallz & Deron Alek. By Your Side is an exclusive track on Jamendo.com, another hip hop track just as good if not better than last week's track from Tab.

The description of the track:

`The problem of being "friends with benefits" is that eventually, someone catches feelings and wants to become more than what they are. Mallz and Deron Alek speak on just such a situation over a track by Hoodgrown Productions.`

Have a listen to the track - let me know what you think. Be sure to check out alternative airwaves dot com for podcasts and more music reviews. See you next time.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Times by Tab. Tab is a hip hop artist based in the US. He first started producing music at the age of 5, playing the drums. Fast forward to 2018 - he is in an underground group called Dead Poet Society. His latest solo album is A R T I S T, released December 2018. About the album:

A R T I S T    “Always Reveal Truth In Strange Times” is the mantra for the new album. It was written for all the creatives still out there trying to balance adulthood & responsibilities with dreams and purpose. Growth is the major theme of this project.

Times is the final track on the album, which you can check out on Jamendo.com. Hope you like the track - be sure to check out alternative airwaves dot com for podcasts and music reviews. See you next time.

Script Hi and welcome to Alternative Airwaves - I'm your host Steve, bringing you the best in Creative Commons music. This is the Weekly Airwave: one track with some information about the song or the artist.

This week's track: Astronauts by Parker. Here's a description of the artist and the track from Jamendo.com: Parker is a band from Miami, Florida, comprising of Reed F. Gaines and Carter Vail. The pair met at the Frost School of Music in 2015 and began making music later that year. Parker released their eponymous EP in April of 2018, featuring Lo-Fi indie music with a nod towards Alt-Country. Parker will be releasing their next single, ‘Astronauts’ on November 16th under Dreamtime Palace, with an EP to follow in early 2019.

`Astronauts is a futuristic synth song about being stuck on the moon. Featuring high falsetto voices & the warbling sounds of the MICROKORG, 'Astronauts' is a love song about missing Earth and the isolation of space.`

If you're wondering, the MICROKORG is a synth from Korg released in 2002, and still in production today. Listen for it as you take in Parker's "Astronauts". Be sure to check out alternative airwaves dot com for more podcasts and music reviews. See you next time.

This is a short episode today - one that comes to you on "Break The Internet Day". There's only one song in the show - the rest is me talking very briefly about protecting Net Neutrality.

As a Canadian I don't have a direct voice in this fight, but if you're in the US, you might! Instead of listening to me talk about it, there are a couple of podcasts on the issue that say it much better.

Here's a quick podcast to tide you over! I don't talk about very much - it's mostly about the music.

I was able to push my way through the humidity and record a half episode today - no full episode for a while because SUMMER. I've been busy between vacations and just being busy in general with summer time activities. So here's a quick podcast to tide you over! I don't talk about very much - it's mostly about the music.

Don't forget to check out http://www.zencast.fm if you're interested in starting your own podcast, or are looking for a new podcast host! It's an excellent service that hosts this very podcast. You get full statistics, etc. Right now it's free - go check it out!I also used Spreaker to record this episode, which is its own podcast platform. I don't intend to use it long term for Alternative Airwaves (the quality just isn't right), but will be using it for another project I want to start up (which I will also use zencast.fm for!).The music (don't forget to check out the full Summer 2015 playlist from Jamendo!):1. Juanitos - Hola Hola Bossa Nova 2. Loudog - Music 3. David Amber ft. Devyn Rush - Gnarly 4. Becays - Set You Free

Kicking off 2015 with a somewhat lazy look at 2014; most of these tracks were taken from Jamendo’s Best of 2014 playlist, with a few exceptions. I’m going to try to keep up with the podcast on a more regular basis in 2015 as well. In today’s episode I mostly talked about random things. Apologies for some of the music hiccups! My intention today was just to get a podcast released. Stay tuned to the end of the episode & hear some podcast recommendations.

Drawing direct inspiration from CBC Radio 3's Sweatin' To the Indies, I present to you The Workout Podcast - Creative Commons version! I think I've attempted this before, but this time around the music is a lot better and I did my best to edit the music together so that it flows. Summer seems to have suddenly switched on! At least, that's the case in Ottawa. In today's slightly shorter episode, I've picked some "classic" songs and some newer songs, and also was completely unaware of the technical glitches at the start of the podcast. No solid topics of conversation in the show, just lots of great music. If you're an App developer, you have until June 9th to submit something to the Jamendo App Contest.

To listen, download from Archive.org, iTunes, or Stitcher. Please note I am aware of the technical issues downloading the podcast from iTunes; if you have an iOS device, you should be able to download from the Podcasts app without problem. Or just get Stitcher - it's pretty great.

I didn't have anything prepared, so I went and downloaded a bunch of remixes from ccmixter.org.  Actually, I used the new "dig.ccmixter" tool that they just launched.  Check it out here.

I couldn't find exact links to the tracks that I found, but view the search results here - I've copied the titles of all of the songs I used, so it should be fairly easy to find them!  I only went a few pages in.

Back with a new show this week! I scoured the Internet for new releases, and had to stretch a bit for what I considered to be "2013" new releases. What I found were some pretty great tracks, and if it wasn't technically a new release, it's a bit of a preview of what is to come this year. Going by the tracks I picked, it looks like we're going to have another great year of Creative Commons-licensed music!

This week's podcast is loosely themed around colours! I'm trying something different with today's podcast - an audio magazine of sorts! I'd like to be a little more informative, or at least different, instead of being just a podcast that plays a bunch of music. So my idea with this is to draw back on the music a little and focus on other things...which right now is not much. But one step at a time! In today's episode, a look at the short film Blinky and Hot Fiction's latest album, Apply Within.

Welcome to the first episode under the (latest) format change! The theme for today's show is SOUL. Specifically, soul music. I finally made it to #50! I didn't get the chance to plan anything special - we'll leave that for number 100. In the show today: songs pulled from Mike's last ASR show; new tracks from Swedish pop bands; a demo from Brad Sucks; and a really cool cover of a Robert Palmer track. Plus I instituted a new rule for the show - a 30-minute hard time limit. I hope it makes for a tighter podcast. Hope you enjoy it! The playlist is below. As always, links are provided.

  1. Radio Star - A Common Tale (A Common Tale, 2011)
  2. The Ease Down - Heavy Hopes (Shapeshifter, 2007)

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! It's everybody's favourite Mexican holiday, because it's fun to pronounce. Today's podcast is actually NOT themed around this holiday, but it was too convenient to pass up for a name. Plenty of great stuff in this week's podcast, with songs coming from Jamendo, the Free Music Archive, and Wired.

  1. In Isolation > Film Noir Scandal (Matt Pop Scandalous Mix) (Jamendo)
  2. Armando Lagozza > Los mariachi (Los mariachi single, Jamendo)
  3. Michael Stasis > Brown Cow (Chainsaw, Free Music Archive)
  4. CEBE > Honey Cotton (Honey Cotton, Jamendo)
  5. Ed Schrader's Music Beat > I Can't Stop Eating Sugar (Live at WFMU's Talk Cheap Aug 25 2011, Free Music Archive)
  6. Beastie Boys > Now Get Busy (The WIRED CD) (I paraphrased from this Canada.com article)
  7. Montes Rook > Reason To Do (Patience, Bandcamp)
  8. Hello Future > Paparazzi (Lady Gaga Cover) (Acoustic, Jamendo)

Time for another podcast! It feels like it's been a long time since I've released anything, and in a way, it has. While I was pretty pleased with the interview with Streets of Hastings, I haven't been very impressed with the quality of the podcasts I've released since then. I've got a more positive outlook now, so upwards and onwards as they say. Great music selection today, featuring new releases from Jamendo.com plus an awesome cover track to cap things off. Download and enjoy!

The bulk of this podcast is devoted to an interview I did with Rockland band Streets of Hastings (http://www.streetsofhastings.com), so I didn't put a lot of effort into picking the rest of the music.  They have a CD Release party tonight (March 23rd, 2012) at 8pm at Avant Garde (http://www.avantgardebar.ca), so if you're in the Ottawa area be sure to check them out.  It's only $10 at the door.

It's the NHL All-Star weekend here in Ottawa, and I am excited! I don't normally worry very much about things like making sure I record the skills competition if I'm going to be out for the night (like tonight), or getting HD for this very occasion, but it's in my home town and I have been waiting for this for a long time. No fancy title today, my mind was a little blanked. A couple of notes for this episode before you listen: one, I was trying a new method of recording (that ended up being much less convoluted), so there are going to be a couple of hiccups here and there - especially at the beginning, where my voice is overpowered by the music. Woops! Two, because of the microphone I have and the method I used, my mic had to be on at all times, so there may be some background noises throughout the podcast. As I warned on Twitter, my dog probably makes a frequent appearance in the first segment.

Now that's out of the way, onto the show notes!

Well, the debut of a new podcast format did not come without its stumbles. It's still very much a work in progress, and I can only improve from here. It's been two weeks, so that means it's time for a new podcast! I normally get these up on the same Saturday that I record them, but events this weekend that may or may not have had something to do with watching Moneyball and baking an apple crumble served to interfere with those plans. In any case, here is your latest podcast! Savour it, because it may appear in a slightly different format two weeks from now (insert ominous chords here).

Direct Download (archive.org) - 36:55

Here's the playlist!

  1. Bear Mountain - Swim
  2. Professor Kliq - Done With Disco (see his website here - apparently he reached his donation goal!)
  3. The Brainstormers - By All Means
  4. The Search - Silent Days (Pre-order their latest album, The Search For Connection Contact And Community)

I'm finally back with a new podcast! It's been since the end of July since I released a new episode, and for that I am deeply sorry. But the move is complete, and I have some brand new stuff for you. Today I was just winging it a little, but I plan to put some more work into the blog and get some exciting things happening. Okay, enough talk - onto the track listing!

""Dog Days" (Latin: diēs caniculārēs) are the hottest, most sultry days of summer. Dog Days can also define a time period or event that is very hot or stagnant, or marked by dull lack of progress. The name comes from the ancient belief that Sirius, also called the Dog Star, in close proximity to the sun was responsible for the hot weather." -- Wikipedia

Your eyes are not lying! I'm going away this weekend, so I thought I would release the podcast a few days early. It's a little long this time around, but since it's been three weeks since the last episode, I figured nobody will mind! Some great music in there, starting off hard and fast and ending on a similarly strong note. Except for one or two songs, everything in the podcast has been featured on the blog in the last three weeks.

Direct Download (42 MB) - Length: 46:02

  1. Prepare to Meet Thy Broom! - High Like it's 1989 - This song is one of the many awesome funky songs I found last Thursday. That mixtape is still on its way.
  2. MC Frontalot - Spoiler Alert - I really mentioned the infamous MC in passing, but I haven't ever featured his songs on the podcast so I thought it was about time.
  3. Hot Fiction - War of Attrition - Awesome band, played them before - this song just fit perfectly for the set.
  4. The White Soots - If I Go - great bluesy rock band that sometimes channels The Black Keys
  5. The Polymorphines - The Clean and The Dirty - Great Ottawa band that is having a CD Release party this Saturday! Go, if you can make it. Details are here. *NOTE: I may have mentioned the EP is for free download. It is not; it is however only $4 US! Very good price.
  6. The Search - Distant - awesome song, really reminded me of the 80s when I heard it. The rest of their album is much like this.
  7. Ellus Bellus - Sticks, Stones and My Bones - I think this band has just about the best band name and the best album name on this entire podcast.
  8. Gunther Brown - Minnesota - If I'm to believe the lyrics, Gunther Brown really don't like Minnesota.
  9. Bella Ruse - Heart of Everyone - Played them simply because they're from Minnesota.
  10. Not From Georgia - Caroline - Great band, plays catchy folk/pop music and licenses everything under Creative Commons. Followed me on Twitter, so I checked 'em out.
  11. These Animals - Four to the Floor - Great song at the end of their EP, it's also up for a remix contest of sorts at Aaahh Records.

Thanks for listening / downloading! I hope you enjoy your own dog days of summer.

Alternative Airwaves is now hosted on archive.org! Eventually I'll be porting all the older podcasts over there so they can all be found in one spot. Here's the original post for the podcast.

Hopefully the fan I had on to cool down the "studio" didn't cause too much background noise. I had a fun time putting together this playlist, and listening as I recorded. I guess if you read the track listing, the "secret cover song" won't be so secret!

Direct Download (via archive.org, 35.3MB)

Playlist (38:30):

  1. Keyboard Rebel - Northern Sherpa - From the album Pop Grenade, available from Aaahh Records.
  2. The Laureates - Cooler Birds - Cool Chicago band that uses a lot of distortion; available at Free Music Archive
  3. Silver Rocket - Crank it Up - Italian band on a German netlabel - talk about multiculturalism! Available at Free Music Archive
  4. Mouth's Cradle - Front Porch, Back Porch - 7-track free preview album released via FrostWire; full album available online. Very good music, you should download it maybe.
  5. Early Adopted - Thank-You - First heard of this group via FrostClick. Very good hip hop, cross between Eminem and Lupe Fiasco.
  6. Tense Kids - Second Law - From the album Oh! Idaho, this is a fun little number.
  7. Roar - I Can't Handle Change
  8. Allison Crowe - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) [Eurythmics Cover] - Allison Crowe has done a number of covers, and her version of Hallelujah almost made it into The Watchmen. Do a quick search on YouTube to find more.

It's been 4 weeks since I last did a "regular" podcast - what with last episode being a themed podcast (which was a lot of fun to do) - so it feels good to be back in the groove picking out new music. Some great stuff in today's episode, including - finally - a track from my brother's band. Keep reading for the playlist.

  1. Sick of Sarah - Overexposed
  2. Flat People - A Year From Now (Where's the Emotion Baby)
  3. Nick Tann - Can't Get Happy

Just to recap, Capital Grass and the No Men are playing a live show TONIGHT (April 30th), 9:00PM, at the Elmdale Tavern in Ottawa. Cover is $6 and they're playing with Jon Laurie-Beaumont and Slim and Popular. Here's the Facebook event page if you're interested. If you're NOT in the Ottawa area, I'll be posting a show review on Monday (with pictures, possibly).

The podcast this week is a little different than what most might be expecting - as I mentioned in the last episode, I've been planning a couple of theme podcasts. Welcome to Themecast #1! All the music in today's show is swing music. This has resulted in a slightly shorter show actually, because it was slightly difficult to find music to fit the bill - well, music that I liked. I think I found some great stuff; listen for yourself and decide! Playlist follows below...

Playlist:

  1. Latché Swing - Sweet Georgia Brown
  2. Aló Django - How High the Moon / I Got Rhythm
  3. The Mobcat Orchestra - Mobcat Swing

  5. The Underscore Orkestra - Devil with the Devil (Still don't know if this is original or trad. but I think it's original)

The first new podcast of 2011 is finally done! I thought I picked some really awesome music to kick the year off on a great note. The standard playlist with links to artists' websites is below, but first a couple of links I mentioned during the show:

- 23 Seconds - A great netlabel from Gothamberg, Sweden.
- Aaahh Records - another netlabel, similar in style to 23 Seconds.

Playlist:

Last Saturday night I made myself a nice cup of coffee with eggnog (I swear, there was no rum involved) and settled in to do what looks to be my last podcast of 2010. Things are just going to be too busy in the next couple of weeks, though I MAY end up doing a surprise 'cast next week if I get the free time. You just never know!

I have an announcement to make about a podcast coming up in January 2011, but I'll save that for a separate blog post.

There were some nice highlights this episode, including a really cool MJ cover. Here's the playlist.

  1. HoboTwang - Alone in the House
  2. She Swings, She Sways - What I Wouldn't Do [NOTE: I learned just now that this band broke up]
  3. Paper Tiger - Sandy
  4. Josh Woodward - Revolution Now
  5. Joey Kneiser - Bruised Ribs
  6. The Transisters - JB is Dead
  7. Loudspeaker Alliance - Revolt
  8. Jens Wennberg - Tux
  9. InAshton - Will You Be There

And backing music was provided by James Edwards.I said I would do a "Creative Commons News" recap on the blog, but that feature is really quickly turning into new CC releases (which is OKAY). Here are some quick stuff I pulled from various sources.* XYZ by DJ Leq - It's just a single, consisting of the original mix and a shorter version. Kinda catchy! Just released today. * 2010 by Hypnotic Crow - Another dance album, this one is also just plain catchy. It's a full-length album that consists of mainly electronic-based music. While it was released today, it is apparently a compilation of older unreleased tracks by Hypnotic Crow. * Intercontinental Music Lab Goes to War - Intercontinental Music Lab - The name's a mouthful, but the music from this UK outfit is pretty good. I'm not sure how I'd tag it - it's a mix between pop, punk, rock, and alternative rock. I guess "alternative rock" is the best fit here.

I recorded episode 16 of the podcast last night, but only got around to uploading it this morning. So, that's also why the blog post is late. Anyway, the title thankfully does not refer to "I'm never again doing this podcast" but more so "I'm never again singing on the podcast" but you know what they say in An American Tale, never say never!

Side note: I got to 50k this year in NaNoWriMo! Read about it on my other blog, here.

Running time is I think 27:40. A bit short because one of the songs wouldn't play.

Track listing

  1. NanowaR - Stormlord of Power
  2. Convicted Killer Scientists - Mas Hypochondria
  3. Ghune- First Project / Wanderings
  4. Girl Talk - Make Me Wanna
  5. The Dead Rocks - Nicotine (played during Creative Commons News segment)
  6. Liam Stewart - Sixteen Words (did not play due to unknown error, but thought I'd link to it anyway)
  7. The Very Sexuals - Wrecked This Century
  8. Fatblueman - Fat Blue Christmas Swing Medley
  9. Stephen Gower - Jingle Bells (Horrible Version)

Finally, another episode of Alternative Airwaves! I've been pretty busy with NaNoWriMo this month, but I found time this evening to get a podcast recorded. I even did some writing while I was putting the show together! All in all, a successful evening.

  1. Bella Ruse - Complicated Rhythm (from their upcoming album out December 13)
  2. Sonic Real Estate - Rocking in a Free World (live acoustic track)
  3. Dan Lynch - Nano Song
  4. 20lb Sounds - Redemption Song (excellent Bob Marley cover)
  5. The Moose Jaw Twins - Fly
  6. Jens Wennberg - Welcome to 1984 (from the album of the same name)
  7. Chuck D - No Meaning No

My apologies for the very delayed Blog post for the latest podcast. You see, I've been quite busy at work, and there was a wedding I went to, and...well I was busy. But it's been up on iTunes for just under a week now, so maybe you might like some links to the artists I mentioned?

Episode 11 has a funky soul groove going for it - thanks to the featured artist, SOULED OUT and their No Name Funk EP.  It is currently available on iTunes but you can also download it directly here if you don't use that particular program.

Track Listing: CEREALES KILLERS - Feel It SOULED OUT - No Name Funk EP JAMES JR - Let's Stay Together

Here's the translated portion from Souled Out's website that I read (and I stress it's improperly translated from German):

Ingredients, such as the tight rhythm section, horns, and fat are to be understood by itself is refined the whole thing with a strong vocal part and surprising arrangements and interpretations.  Detailed recipe follows.

Good morning everyone, and Happy Canada Day! So far mine's been pretty great - I went to bed sick and woke up feeling fine this morning, and to discover I have some juice in the fridge that I didn't remember making.

I've had this podcast waiting in the wings for a week now, and I've been very excited to release it. It is 100% Canadian, and features some really great artists that I found mostly on Jamendo.com. Here's the playlist - now go out and enjoy the day! I might find myself in downtown Ottawa today, which depends entirely on whether I feel up for biking down there. If you're looking for some things to do today, check out this Canada Day Guide from www.ottawastart.com.

  • The Wind Whistles - Gold Fever
  • Staggered Crossing - Nuclear Winter (Next 2 You)
  • Johnny Broadway - There's a Whole World Out There to Explore
  • The Dixie Flyers - You Are My Flower
  • Allison Crowe - Happy People
  • Nicholas Chu - Garbage
  • The Seamen - Catchphrase
  • The Noctilucent Cloud - Life's Too Short

I finally got to do the podcast this weekend! Life has been very busy: sudden funeral 8 hours away, a softball tourney this afternoon (B Pool Champs!!), hockey tonight...well there was a lot. I finally finished the final mix tonight, which required very little effort thankfully. I stumbled in a couple of places but I felt the podcast fit together well, and there was some very cool music played. Speaking of which, here's the playlist with artist info

  1. The Dead Rocks - One Million Dollar Theme
  2. Brad Sucks and The Hip Cola - SOS
  3. Brittani Louise Taylor - Everything's Gonna be Okay
  4. Carbon/Silicon - Make it Alright
  5. No, Really - Molten
  6. Jamie Rumley - Anywhere But Here
  7. InAshton - It's Ok...It's Ok
  8. I Am Not Lefthanded - Boats (Swept Away)
  9. Julandrew - It's Easy

Part two should be coming this week - most likely to be done again on the weekend when I have some more time. I was going to record it at the same time as Part 1, but I wasn't able to get to it. Here it is, episode #6!  Unfortunately, it is not the "South American Banjo Ska" genre my brother wanted, but instead is Celtic Hip Hop - coming from Oakland, California, no less!  Here are the show notes:

  • The opening theme is as always a modification of Brad Sucks' song Making Me Nervous
  • The opening track was called Drunken Kitchen Kisses, by The Destroyed Room, which I heard about thanks to FrostClick.
  • Wikipedia movie summaries really are awesome; check out the one for Twister
  • Today's feature artist: Beltaine's Fire; their album is The Weapon of the Future
  • Tomorrow I have a meeting with the prosecutor about a bylaw ticket concerning my dog, Hank.
  • The last band was one I mentioned last week - Glossary.  Their album is called The Better Angels of Our Nature

Episode 4 is here!  Albeit late!  But I sat through a thunderstorm while recording this, risking losing all my work in the process.  Today's podcast features Paper Navy, and their album All Grown Up.  Here are some notes:

  • The opening track was called Here Comes the Rain by Wilson Noble
  • My poor dog was freaking out for the duration of the podcast; I dedicate it to him
  • I recorded this with my bizarre set up again - using two different Skype accounts between two computers.
  • I apologize for the popping p's.  I am going to try to fix these next episode.
  • The closing track was called Heroines, by Diablo Swing Orchestra.  Read their mythology at their official website.  Seriously, check out their music.  It is nuts.  I think I will have to do a podcast for them alone one day.

  • Michael Jameson Band - Summer Love

Welcome to Episode 3 of Alternative Airwaves! This week's episode features the album Continuous Error by Loudspeaker Alliance! Some notes for the show:

  • This podcast also features my dog chewing away at a plastic bottle in some breaks
  • The podcast was recorded on my desktop computer, at home (still no studio yet)
  • The theme music is Brad Sucks' (http://www.bradsucks.ne/t) Making Me Nervous from the album I Don't Know What I'm Doing; the audio at the start is from a Fantastic Four audio episode (link to come later), and I'm pretty sure that's Stan Lee's voice beckoning you to listen closely.
  • Check out Loudspeaker Alliance on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/loudspeakeralliance
  • Here is a link for Recite the Plan: http://www.myspace.com/recitetheplan
