Every Good Thing is an introductory podcast to the Book of Mormon. What is the Book of Mormon? The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture translated by the power of God as a second witness to the reality, divinity, and role of Jesus Christ as the Savior of all mankind and it contains the fullness of His gospel of salvation.
My name is Josh Putnam and I really love talking about the hope that comes from Christ. But I also know well the challenges that life brings and how hard it can be to feel hopeful, even as disciples of Christ. I think that much of that comes from our own misunderstanding of Him and His gospel. So I try to find the hope that lies at the heart of even difficult gospel and religious concepts.
The Book of Mormon is a book about Jesus, and a book about hope. So that's what I try to share here, along with empathy and patience and an acknowledgment of the struggle that this life presents to us. Things don't always fit neatly into boxes in reality. So a lot of love and patience is needed.
And the Book of Mormon tells us that is available to all of us.

Today I discuss the testimonies of the Three Witnesses and the Eight Witnesses of the golden plates and the translation of the Book of Mormon. It was a bold claim for Joseph Smith to tell the world he had received a book made with golden pages in a hillside in New York, made much more incredible by the fact he wouldn't show them to anyone. But eventually, his testimony was supported by three others who testified of an angelic visitation, during which they were shown the golden plates and told by the voice of the Lord that the things Joseph had said were true. Eight others were allowed to see the plates without a divine accompaniment. Their testimonies are included at the beginning of the Book of Mormon, and even though each of the three witnesses left the church at one point in their lives (two returned), not once did any of the three ever retract their testimonies. On the contrary, they each reiterated them time and time again.

Today's episode is the title page of the Book of Mormon, where we learn about the purpose of the book, which is to convince everyone that Jesus is the Savior of the world and that He invites ALL to come unto Him.
