GTD72: Kuman ThongWelcome to the 72nd Gated podcast. This month we have a couple of upcoming huge tracks ready to be unleashed on Gated in the coming months, followed by a set from Kuman ThongBroadcasting from Vietnam, Kuman Thong inhabit a murky corner where ambient atmospheres collide with industrial textures, abstract sound design, experimental structures and noise-soaked transmissions. Their selections drift freely between Ambient, Industrial, Noise, Abstract, Experimental and Leftfield territories, guided more by instinct and atmosphere than any concern for convention.Expect fractured textures, ghostly machinery, decaying rhythms, half-remembered melodies and strange signals emerging from the fog. Drawing from the outer edges of electronic music, Kuman Thong craft immersive journeys that feel equally informed by industrial landscapes, dream logic and sonic experimentation.It's music that lingers somewhere between dream states and industrial ruins, unsettling one moment, hypnotic the next. Gated Recordings Podcast 70Another month, another descent into the machinery.This time the controls are handed to Mihail P, a producer and DJ with a taste for techno that stretches across eras without sounding like a museum tour. His productions and DJ sets lean toward deep atmospheres, melodic pressure and patient groove science, the sort of tracks that unfold gradually while you realise twenty minutes have passed and you have been staring approvingly at a hi-hat.For this mix Mihail pulls together a wide sweep of techno history. Early 90s futurist tackle, mid 90s machine funk, deeper 2000s explorations and a few newer transmissions for good measure. There are moments of Detroit-tinged elegance, UK techno grit, deep space drift and late night warehouse hypnosis. Proper heads-down music.Alongside his production work, Mihail runs Earthbound Recordings, his own imprint dedicated to atmospheric, thoughtful techno. Somewhere between techno, early 90s Italian progressive, and goa trance, the debut EP by Astral Renegades is difficult to pigeonhole, but works wonders on a saucer-eyed dancefloor.The brainchild of a mysterious but established producer, Astral Renegades takes things in a whole new headspinning direction.EP opener Planetarium sets out its stall early, getting straight into trippy, trancey territory within the first few seconds, an acid bassline underpinning the swirl to devastating effect.Wunderland goes even deeper, with a mind-bendingly detuned melody and that ever-present acid bass.Pluto FM on the B-side pushes the repetition to the limit with pulsing synth loops, while EP closer Milchstr brings an element of funk to the bassline.
DimDJ makes a welcome return on Gated for a second EP of acid-inflected hardware tracks, showcasing a range of sounds, from mid-tempo arpeggiated opener Next On Next, followed by the faster Detroit electro-influenced The Path, and low-end bothering Cashe on the A side.The B leads with the rather lovely 10th Of May, which in our book is basically a summer-soaked Balearic house track, followed by the experimental acid techno of Crash, before Ampi 00 Pattern winds down the EP in pensive ambient style.

Welcome back to the Gated podcast. This month it's a great pleasure to usher in to the Gated lair, one of a kind, Paul Rimbaud. Following on from nearly a decade performing along Spain's Costa Del Sol as Elvis² (Elvis Costello songs sung in the style of Elvis Presley), Paul finally hung up his blue suede shoes after succumbing to the same predilections as the king himself, namely pills and cheeseburgers.
Cleaning up after a spell in the priory, he got himself sober, a lithium prescription and turned back to his one true love, the rave, turning his full attention to his own record label, Distant Worlds and, more recently, The Imaginary Museum. He holds down a monthly show on AAJA music and occasionally DJs out but very sparingly as he likes to get a good night's sleep these days. For Gated, Paul has provided us with the finest in 90s Techno oozing all over the proverbial carpet. While mopping that up, Node will have some Gated promos at the end.

Aaron had DJ'd for many years in London and beyond, although he had to stop around 2015 for some time due to surgery and a long recovery. Rebecca (https://soundcloud.com/rebeccagoldberg) is a producer, DJ, live performer and designer from Detroit. Since her debut release, 313 Acid Queen, she's been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, @detroitunderground
Rebecca is a seasoned radio DJ having mixed for FM and internet-radio shows hosted across the globe. She hosts her monthly program “D-SCOVERY” on London’s Aaja Radio highlighting contemporary techno and house from Detroit. She tours internationally as a DJ and live performer and has been featured at notable events from Movement Electronic Music Festival to Tresor in Berlin.
Goldberg has released music and multimedia projects with output ranging from 4/4 Detroit techno to experimental/avant-garde electronic music. She has written original scores for classic films Le Voyage Dans La Lune and Gojira, including live performances at David Lynch’s members-only club, Silencio, in Paris and Armageddon Beachparty in Detroit, respectively.
For Gated and 303 day she's kindly put together a couple hours of acid tracks that she loves. Not necessarily the typical tracks, or the "classics", just all across the board 303 music!

This month we have the superb talents of Ryan Blackman for you, Influenced by early 90’s sounds - FSOL, Aphex Twin and Autechre, along with a myriad other UK electronic music artists Ryan ventured into the Techno clubs of London, by the Mid 90’s experiencing Final Frontier(Club UK), Sabresonic, and most significant of all - LOST. He was exposed to luminaries such as Jeff Mills, Steve Bicknell, Claude Young, Jay Denham, Luke Slater, and many others. A connection with these artists that remains strong today. Throughout the late 90’s to early 2000’s - he went on to play at, and promote, parties across Europe, with much respected DJ’s and Live Acts such as Underground Resistance, DJ Rolando, Ben Sims, Stacey Pullen, 65D Mavericks and many others.
These days Ryan continues to collect and play electronic music, presenting a broad range of sounds from ambient to hardcore, and a recent highlight for him was closing the “Campfire Stories” podcast series for legendary Canadian label Silent Season. Welcome back to Gated and our 36th podcast! This month we are privileged to have a classy mix from Will A. Will began DJ'ing and throwing squat raves and house parties before getting a few club residencies playing along some respected quality artists. After Moving to Shanghai and running parties for 7 years at the legendary Dada club with some legendary international guest acts he based himself in Osaka to put on his Rhythm Werx Acid House parties monthly at the Circus Club Osaka which is where Gated's Node and he crossed paths culminating in a Gated takeover for Werx.

Welcome to the 33rd instalment of the Gated podcast. This month we're absolutely stoked (and a tad relieved) to have with us, West Norwood Cassette Library - label head, producer extraordinaire, radio show presenter and defier of power cuts, Bob Bhamra. Bob wanted to submit something for the Gated podcast series that wasn't just the same as his WNCL / Balamii radio show. So he went down "the silly route" and put together "West Norwood Cassette Library's Lockdown A-Z" - 26 tracks, ordered alphabetically by artist, all released during lockdown and covering a ridiculously wide span of genres, totally in keeping with Gated's mission for just good music. As you may gather, there were a few road bumps to overcome to say the least, as the ether seemed to chuck quite a few obstacles in his way. But it's here, and it's immense, so strap in for the journey!

EXE Project is a creative platform established in 2016 to showcase the versatile world of left-field electronic music from its various sub genres world wide. Based out of Manchester England EXE curates music releases, events, DJ mixes, Transmission podcasts and videos. Meecha has compiled a mix here which showcases the EXE Project sound, which includes some current and forthcoming releases on the label. For April, we're stoked to welcome in the highly talented not even noticed.
They first gave us a taste of their style with their track 'Refractive' which came out on our compilation In the Key of G last year.
Second, they have constructed a set of six heavyweight tunes for their debut EP Muted Noises, with old skool nods, a range of moody atmospheric tracks, some hard as nails, others more ambient and reflective.
And so, thirdly, they have provided us a mix of the utmost quality. Brimming with beats, 140 bpm jungle and breaks, acidy drizzle, bass heavy cuts including some of the tracks from the EP, and opening with a little something else from them.

Since 2016, she has been a resident of renowned producer & DJ Makoto’s night, Human Elements. Her DJ Mixes have been released on J-Wave and well received and recently ranked #3 on Mixcloud JP's Drum & Bass chart, so she’s definitely one to watch for the future.
