GUEST:Jim Stovall Contempt and Apathy You have no doubt heard it said that familiarity breeds contempt. In much the same way, I believe abundance breeds apathy. Recently, here in North America, there was a solar eclipse that was visible to a large segment of the population. Many people took time off work or school and traveled great distances to observe this celestial phenomenon for a few brief moments. While I certainly understand and applaud people’s desire and efforts to experience the eclipse, I wonder what would happen if we lived in a world where a sunset could only be viewed once a decade. We would look on this nightly miraculous light show in a much different way. As a blind person myself, one of the sights I miss is the sunset. As my eyesight faded I wrote a song, titled Sunset, that sealed that visual experience in my mind. I played my Sunset song on one of singer/songwriter, Kelly Morrison’s albums, and if you would like to hear it, here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/kellymorrison/sunset.Those who have heard me speak, read my books, watched the movies based upon them, or consumed these weekly columns are familiar with the Golden List. The Golden List is a lifelong habit I received as a legacy from my grandmother. It is simply the process of daily listing ten things for which we are thankful. The mere act of regular gratitude eliminates apathy just as light removes shadows and darkness.I have long believed that we change our lives when we change our minds. As you create a better world for yourself in the future, don’t forget to be grateful for the world you live in now as you mindfully experience every bit of it. Guest Jim Stovall- PROFOUND AND PRACTICAL: When we look at the field of personal development, self-help, and success, information can either be profound or practical. Profound information instructs and inspires us on a large scale. Napoleon Hill’s words, “Anything the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve,” are profound and can change the course of our lives, but they may not tell us what to do today. On the other hand, the idea that to prosper, you must spend less than you earn is eminently practical, but it doesn’t tell us how to find, pursue, and live our calling or mission in life. We must constantly sort the input we receive into the categories of profound and practical. During a political campaign, it is very important to listen to the meaning behind the words and not just how they are delivered. In the 1960 presidential debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, those who watched or heard the debate felt Kennedy had won, while those who read the transcript felt Nixon had won. Words are all we have to communicate our thoughts, feelings, and mission, but they can be confusing or misleading if we don’t weigh them carefully. As you go through your day today, separate the spoken or written words from the motives and meanings behind them.Guest: Joining us today is DR Wayne H. Winegarden PHD ... WAYNE SENIOR FELLOW OF BUSINESS & ECONOMICS, AT THE PACIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE AND .......also the Director of PRI’s Center for Medical Economics and Innovation. DR WINEGARDEN SAYS “Price controls used by government-run health care systems globally to contain costs ....lead to delays, lower quality, and worse health outcomes.”So let’s work on the solution.

Jim Stovall discusses ROUTINESJim says he's met many people who initially reached their financial, fitness, or other goals and then regressed because they abandoned the habits and routines that made them successful. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. You must commit to standard routines and form habits that are sustainable. No one can survive a starvation diet or a scorched-earth budget forever. Your success should stretch you but be both attainable and sustainable. As you go through your day today, maintain success by making good choices and committing them to routines.Angie Austin discusses some of the basics of being a good person. Serve others: Give of your time and energy to help others. Love others: Love God and love others, even when they misbehave. Live above your circumstances: Don't let your circumstances get you down.Trishs Hershberger: Tech and gaming expert (and Mom) T-- discusses -back to school shopping... Jim Stovall author or over 60 books discusses how to grow your wealth by being specific in your goals. Personal finance is comprised mostly of personal with very little finance. Money is a great tool if, and only if, you have a purpose for it. Having one dollar more than is required for everything you want or need can become frivolous. While I am certainly a proponent of having a comfortable emergency fund and retirement account, accumulating large sums of money beyond that quickly veers into what I call the Disease of More.Personal finances should always be targeted toward what matters to you, not keeping up with the proverbial Jones’s on social media.Saving for something specific like new shoes for your kids or a vacation makes savings lot more effective and fun. Al Erisman joins the Good News to discuss his book, How to Live Courageously in a Polarizing World.Al discusses the 5 major responses to a post-Christian worldAmerican evangelism is deeply divided. Denominations are splitting, many churches are dying, and being known as a Christian is now a social negative. The number of self-identifying Christians is declining, church attendance is declining, and more young people are leaving the church and their faith. But it is not time to panic. According to Al Erisman and co-author Randy Pope, living in a polarizing culture is nothing new. Join us!
Jim Stovall talks about mindset and how we choose to look at events in our lives. You may remember from the movie that Rocky was an unknown boxer who, through an amazing set of circumstances, got a chance to fight the heavyweight champion of the world. This was all based off of real life boxer, Chuck Wepner. Although he was badly injured and didn’t win, Chuck Wepner finished the fight standing. To this day, both his business card and logo show a photo of him standing over Mohammad Ali after he knocked the champion down. Chuck Wepner told me that while he realized he couldn’t defeat Mohammad Ali, he could seize the moment and create a legend—which is what he did. Jim says, When good things or bad things happen to us, we always have a choice to either build on the positive or turn around the negative. We all have the right to choose. We change our lives when we change our minds. You can sit right where you are and decide to change your life forevermore. As you go through your day today, seize the moment and change your life. Angie Austin talks about old fashioned relationship habits and how we should incorporate them into our relationships today. Stephanie Hill talks about an easy way to enjoy delicious summer savings.

Brian has been an automotive journalist for 20 years, and today he is talking to us about which new vehicles are fit for your family.
