In the current apocalypse, I’ve found the best way to cope is by funneling the loneliness and ennui into pretending to be a Jane Austen protagonist, so why not wander the moors six feet apart and indulge in some poetry? In this podcast, I’ll be reading some of my favorite Victorian and Romantic Era poetry. Have a cup of tea with me and let yourself be carried away to a more picturesque isolation.
Tonight’s poem is “Christabel” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, first published in 1798, a romantic ballad of a fair maiden, the mysterious woman she finds in the woods, an evening of passion, a wicked spell, and bitterest betrayal.
