Waft - to pass gently through the air. I think we talked about this one in the Titanic book
Trudged - walking kind of slowly, heavy steps
Yearling - a young animal...usually one that has only been alive for a year or two (root word: year)
Veered - suddenly change direction
Self-preservation - knowing to protect yourself from something dangerous
