No matter how long the actual duration of a paranormal event, the experience tends to be one that sticks with you forever. You might only have one solitary encounter with something that just can’t be explained… but as long as you have questions, it’s going to haunt you until you get answers.

Do you think it’s scarier to see something that defies logic, or to hear something with no reasonable explanation? Sure, a lot of the time you get both, but seeing a human shape that moves in utter silence is sometimes worse than the one you hear moving down the hallway. Likewise, hearing whistling from the woods at night is harder to explain away than a strange shape that maybe, possibly, was just a tree moving in the wind. And sometimes, worst of all, is when the sounds and sights suddenly… just… stop.

What would you rather experience: going your whole life without interacting with the paranormal in any way, or risking exposure to something malicious in the hopes that one day you could be visited by a lost loved one? I don’t really think many of us get much of a choice one way or another, even if we go to the lengths of visiting a medium or getting hold of a Ouija board. Sometimes it’s just not meant to happen.

People, places, things. All three can be haunted, and I’m honestly not sure what’s more terrifying. Places can be left and avoided, things can usually be destroyed. People are a little more difficult to get rid of, but the world is so full of strange and unlikeable people that come in and out of our lives that it can be difficult to tell if they’re just strange… or if something more sinister is afoot. Whether it’s grandma’s ghost or a neighbor that never left, though, we’re here to tell those stories.

Ever felt like something… just wasn’t right? You could be in a crowd and feel like someone was staring at you with unkind intent, only to discover later that someone you have issues with attended that same event. Or maybe you’ve gotten a random urge to talk to a friend, only to find out they just experienced a bad breakup or lost a family member hours earlier. Strange instincts, something nudging at your brain to make you take action… or pack up and go home. Today, we’re going to hear what happens when people trust their instincts; whether it’s locking the door, getting a different bus, or giving in to the desire to just drop everything and run.

Burying your head in the sand is almost never the right way to deal with things. It can ruin relationships, drain your resources, and ultimately always seems to come back to bite you. But when it comes to the creepy, the kooky, mysterious and spooky, sometimes it’s the only way to avoid conflict. Act like nothing is happening and go on your way. Of course, there are times when you need to take direction to get whatever is haunting you to leave you be, but today? Today, we have a collection of stories where the best option really seems to be… make no sudden movements, keep your eyes down, and don’t make a sound.

Today we’re doing something… a little different. I spent Labor Day weekend in Port Aransas, Texas. It is a peaceful beach town, but there are stories there that stick with you long after you leave. I don’t know about you guys, but the summer heat is getting to me. I keep finding myself thinking, “boy, it would be nice if I could walk through a poltergeist’s cold spot right about now.” Obviously, if that actually happened I would freak out, but that’s not the point.

**I wonder… is there an exact age at which you’re more likely to encounter something you can’t quite explain? We often hear from people who experienced something traumatic as a child that they still don’t understand, even decades later. And think about it – when you’re a kid, there’s a lot that doesn’t make sense, right?

One of the most fascinating things about hauntings and paranormal experiences, in my opinion, is trying to work out what a spirit might be trying to say or what an event might represent. Oftentimes, it feels like a family member doesn’t realize they’ve passed away or wants to reassure you that they’re still around. That’s one of the nicer types of haunting, although it can still be unsettling. However, even more often, we’re left feeling like there’s a stranger in the room, or the forest, or the house with us who wants us to leave… and will go to any lengths to achieve this. But is it worse to feel unwelcome or to not know what the presence wants with you at all? I think that’s up for you to decide… and the tellers of today’s stories.

Something old, something new, something familiar… all of it true. It’s normal to feel uneasy in a new place, with unfamiliar surroundings and nobody but strangers around you. It doesn’t make the experience much easier, but at least it’s expected. But sometimes you’re somewhere you’ve been a thousand times before when something catches you out… if you’re observant enough, anyway. Today’s stories will make you want to keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel – and really, that’s for the best.

Hospitals, mountains, and gas stations… oh my. If you’ve had inexplicable experiences for yourself, where did the most eerie of them take place? At this point, I think it’s a given that you can bump into something unnatural in the hallways of a hospital, and anything goes in the Appalachians. But a glimpse of the paranormal in a grocery store or out your bedroom window hits different, right? Today, we’re bringing together a whole clutch of stories that prove no matter where you are, something could be lurking just around the corner to frighten you.

The summer solstice has come and gone which means the longest days of the year are behind us. The shadows will slowly begin to stretch spindly fingers over the ground and deepen in the corner of our rooms. Being secure inside will no longer feel safe with the darkness brushing against the windows.

If you were going to haunt somewhere, where would it be? I know it’s not something anybody really gets to choose, but hypothetically. Somewhere you loved, like a theme park? A house you really liked? A sports arena, so you get an afterlife pass to the Superbowl free of charge? I personally think it would be alright to haunt a cinema screen for the rest of forever, as long as you had enough cognizance to actually watch the movies. But I’m not sure I would want to be stuck haunting the places we visit in today’s episode…

I always think that it’s worse when something makes your hair stand on end with fear during the middle of the day. Like, at nighttime, it’s almost expected that something spooky can happen, and we can brush it off as that ancient part of our brain warning us that darkness = danger… right? The daylight might make things seem less scary – or at least, it’s easier to shake off the feeling of fear when the sun is shining, and there are people casually milling about.

It’s bad enough to feel like you’re being watched or followed by a living, breathing person. Whether it’s walking past the same person too many times at the grocery store, someone getting off at the same bus stop as you, or turning just in time to see a stranger in a crowd look away from you. That sort of thing can often be written off as a coincidence, especially if you get home safely and never see the person again. But what about when whoever, or whatever, is tracing your footsteps doesn’t have a face to put to it?

The variety of paranormal experiences has always fascinated me. Most of them are scary – that’s what happens when something inexplicable occurs: we get frightened. There isn’t much wriggle room for other emotions when you hear an animalistic scream from your empty basement, for example. But some stories are just unnerving – like, when the ghost appeared in your home, nothing bad happened, but you didn’t know what it wanted from you or what it was trying to say. Some sweet stories include a family reaching through the veil to reassure you or friendly neighborhood ghosts passing by to say hello.

What draws you to the paranormal, the haunted? Maybe you’ve experienced something for yourself – something you’ve spent years trying to write off as a coincidence despite a little voice in your ear telling you to look deeper into it; go on; you know you want to. Maybe it’s something you want to experience but never have, you urban explorers and paranormal investigators out there. Perhaps you’re a skeptic who likes a good story and a strong shiver down your spine – don’t worry, we won’t judge as long as you don’t.

Humans, eh? Always craving company like a ghost at a séance. We’re social creatures, whether we’re swapping ghost stories around a campfire or virtually through the eerie glow of our screens. We cling to connections like a paranormal investigator cling to their EMF meter, desperate for validation that we’re not just howling at the moon alone. In today’s spine-tingling tales, our protagonists aren’t howling solo into the void. No, they’ve got company for their hair-raising escapades. Someone to give that reassuring nod and say, “Hey, you’re not the only one seeing things that go bump in the night.”

New year, new me, same haunts. Often we’ll get stories that sound like they’ve been told before, or we’ll hear of people looking for others who may have experienced something similar. It’s natural to not want to feel alone, to not feel crazy when the impossible or improbable happens; when the brain can’t fathom what it saw or heard. Here at IHWN, we promise to believe you, support you, and reassure you that you are not crazy; and that there are more like you out there.

Haunted Stores in Mexico E118

If you’ve been to Mexico or anywhere in Latin America, chances are you’ve been in a tienda Oxxo. These are the largest chain of convenience stores in all of Latin America and maybe even the most haunted. In today’s episode, Cristina and MJ talk about paranormal stories that take place in different Oxxo stores in Mexico, a haunted piñata store in Guadalajara, Mexico, and a haunted cafe. Oh, and of course, they had to mention Stockton, California’s own haunted Burlington Coat Factory. Cristina and MJ share these stories, have some laughs, and share their spooky recommendations, but first, Cristina reads a listener story.

Strange and sinister happenings are never really tied to one location, are they? Sure, all the horror movies take place in homes, churches or graveyards or hospitals, where bad things happened at some point or other. But in real life, something spooky can be waiting around just about any corner. The stories in this episode will take us from the safety of your own home, to work, to friends’ homes, to school, and back home again. And remember, it’s not always about the destination – sometimes, the journey can be just as wild.

Welcome back to It’s Haunted…What Now? I’m your host, Lanie, and today, we’re embarking on a spine-tingling exploration of the supernatural.

In our first story, we’ll delve into the inexplicable events that have haunted a family for generations, leaving them with a sense of foreboding and an entity known only as “The Watcher.”

Story 1 – “The Watcher”: We unravel the unsettling experiences of a family with a long history of supernatural encounters. Deja vu, shadowy figures, and an enigmatic presence in their new home will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Story 2 – “Sixth Sense of Death”: Next, in our “Sixth Sense of Death” story, we’ll hear about a unique ability that one individual possesses: the power… to sense death itself. How does this uncanny talent affect their life, and what are the implications of such an extraordinary gift?

Story 3 – “Haunted House”: Then, we’ll plunge into a chilling tale of a “Haunted House” shared by friends. Their encounter with an unexplainable presence in a basement workout room will leave you questioning the boundaries between our world and the paranormal.

Story 4 – “Midnight Taco Run”: Lastly, join us for a midnight snack run that turned surreal in “Midnight Taco Run.” Discover the unnerving encounter with a creature that defied all logic, leaving our storytellers in disbelief and wonder.

So, haunted..listeners, prepare to be enthralled and unnerved. These tales will weave a web of intrigue that might leave your heart racing and your lights burning late into the night. As we delve deeper into the abyss of the unknown, remember you may question reality itself. Okay… ready to get spooked?

The quaint small town is a staple in American storytelling where everyone knows each other, the schools have barely more than 100 students, and the kids grow up together throughout their childhoods. They’re quiet and peaceful, where adults rear families for generations. In contrast, they are also used in cinema as locations for fictional ax murderers or creepy places to get stuck when your car breaks down.

Today’s episode is brimming with uncanny, unusual, and unexplainable encounters with entities inhabiting small towns and a peculiar incident at a cadaver lab.

Ok, ready to get spooked?

With winter still dragging on, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the darkness, the cold, and the sad, listless feeling of being pulled along through the year. Everything seems on edge; the trees are creaking with bare branches, and the ice echoes when it snaps in the night.

A perfect setup for ghost stories, right?

While I won’t argue with you, I do think that some of the stories we’ve gathered here today have a little more of a spark to them, particularly if you stick around right to the end. After all, even if things keep going bump in the night…that little jolt of fear in your chest is a reminder that you’re here, and you’re alive. Right?

I think it’s reassuring, in a way.

But without further ado … are you ready to get spooked?

They say seeing is believing, but what if you saw it and heard it and lived it but you still can’t believe it? It’s so hard to accept paranormal experiences as real, but when it happens to you, what else can you do but believe it as real? Sometimes it’s so hard to believe what happened really did happen because it was so fantastical and unreal.

As we move into the darkest parts of the year, I’m reminded of the old traditions in certain parts of the world, where people would tell ghost stories over the holiday season. It’s cold, it’s dark, and the world seems to be leaning just a little more towards that thin, liminal space between our world and something a little more…sinister.

Many things can be considered paranormal other than those involving spirits. The true meaning of paranormal is any event that can’t be scientifically proven or occurs beyond the scope of scientific understanding. From sounds of footsteps in long abandoned woods to seemingly benign childhood restaurant terrors, these stories fall beyond the scope of normal understanding and traditional hauntings.

It’s always been a question and mystery why ghosts and spirits choose to stay behind to haunt or wander the earth after death. Is it unfinished business or a strong will to remain on the physical plain? Do some of them simply wish to stay close to family? Today’s episode is full of stories involving these questions and ones that raise even more.
