In this episode, we sit down with Alyssa Blackwell, her role as a life architect, helping people bring forward the life they desire by addressing areas of their life that are out of alignment and her multifaceted approach to tackling clients and helping them achieve their goals.

In this episode:

  • Learn more about life architecture: Alyssa explains her role as a life architect, helping people bring forward the life they desire by addressing areas of their life that are out of alignment. She uses the analogy of the "wheel of life" to illustrate different aspects of life and how they are interconnected.
  • Understand Alyssa’s Multifaceted Approach: Unlike many coaches who focus on a specific niche, Alyssa prefers a well-rounded approach. She believes that working on multiple areas simultaneously is more effective because they all influence and flow together. She offers various services, including women's empowerment retreats, one-on-one coaching, and money courses.
  • Challenging the Niche Mentality: Alyssa shares her struggle with the pressure to niche down, as advised by several coaches. However, she realized that her unique approach, solving multiple problems simultaneously, was more aligned with her purpose.
  • Dog Rescue Passion: Alyssa recounts her love for dogs and how she started fostering and rescuing dogs at a young age. She explains the joy and therapeutic benefits of being around dogs, particularly her current foster dog, Tatertot. They discuss the humor in giving dogs quirky names and the positive impact dogs have on people's lives.
  • Mindset and Money: Alyssa and Emily recall how they met at a networking event and discuss Alyssa's role as a wealth coach. Alyssa explains that wealth is more than just money; it encompasses various aspects of life. While money remains an important part of her work, she has expanded her focus to include other areas of life as well.
  • Embracing Change: Alyssa uses the analogy of trying different flavors of pizza to explain her evolving approach to coaching. She emphasizes the importance of exploring different aspects of life and finding what brings joy and fulfillment.
  • Empowering Women: Alyssa mentions her calling to help women feel empowered around money and highlights the lack of education and support in this area. She believes in teaching women how to use money as a tool while recognizing the broader scope of empowerment.

In 2017 I had a sign-up on my email list from someone working at Postmates. Naturally, I thought, let’s pitch them for a collaboration. On the other end of that email was Sarina Virk Torrendell. However, before Sarina was kicking butt in the tech world she was a human rights activist, and now she is a success and leadership coach and advocate. She is also the host of The Career Memos Podcast.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • The radical shift in Sarina’s life, from human rights activist, to work in startup companies. How did she land her first job?

Plants have a positive effect on people. But, especially in the cities, you can only find them in big stores, and you might not know how to take care of them properly or which one is better for your house. Eliza Blank grew up surrounded by plants thanks to her mother, and she was very passionate about them. That’s why she decided to create The Sill, a digitally native direct-to-consumer houseplant brand with the ambition to reconnect and teach people about plants in a different way. The Sill started small, but now has five stores in the country, and an online shop where you can find a collection of plants, sourced from local growers, with beautiful planters and care instructions for each one.

Highlights:

  • Eliza has been surrounded by plants since childhood. Plants make people happy, but she realized that there weren’t many places to buy them, The Sill was her way to help people to reconnect and learn about plants easily.
  • Her business was not an overnight success. Eliza worked hard to get The Sill going. Having your own business is about commitment, hard work, patience, and time. In the beginning, she did it all, even delivered the plants to her customers’ houses.
  • Eliza had big plans for her company, and that meant she needed to find investors while she was pregnant. Eliza sees her investors as teammates: you need to find the ones that share your values. Her investors were very supportive, and it helped her to show them a business plan.
  • You don’t have to choose! Eliza was worried before giving birth that she wouldn’t be as committed or in love with her work as she used to. But she discovered that you don’t have to choose motherhood over the business.
  • Plant Parenthood: Eliza gives us some tips and recommendations for having your first plant, and shares the next steps for The Sill.

You can follow The Sill on Instagram or visit the website. Don’t forget to check their monthly subscription boxes here.

At a very specific moment in her life, Sydney Weiss knew that she needed to make a change in the way that she viewed herself and the way she connected with others. From that necessity, Seek The Joy Podcast was born. The show is about to reach 200 episodes now, and instead of doing it to promote herself, she uses it to help others and create a community. Sydney produces, interviews, edits, and publishes her podcast, and she’s also a full-time lawyer. How does she manage to do it all? And what advice can she give to someone who wants to start their podcast? Let’s find out.

Highlights:

  • What makes you seek the joy? Sydney tells us about the beginnings of the show, when she was trying to pass her Bar Exam to be a lawyer, and failed to do so.
  • Sydney started her podcast to serve others, instead of doing it as a companion to her own business. Her main topics are the ones that she is interested in, and she thinks about how that information can help her audience.
  • Podcasts are a great way to connect with people. Sydney defines podcasts as a way to build relationships with your guests and with your audience, and what you share in that platform should be serving those relationships.
  • How can you do it all? The secret for Sydney is time management and planning the productions. Sydney created a rhythm and schedule that work for her. It was a process of trial and error, but it was necessary to evolve and find her way.
  • How to start a podcast? Although there are many resources and guides available, Sydney recommends you to figure out first why you want to start a podcast, what do you want to talk about. Is it going to be like a friends' conversation? Be honest about how much you can handle at the beginning, don’t be afraid to start small, and let yourself grow from that. It won’t be perfect, but you will learn and evolve along the way.
  • An accidental entrepreneur: Sydney received so many questions about podcasts, she decided to create a podcast consulting, where she helps others to develop their shows.

You can follow Sydney on Instagram, visit Seek The Joy Podcast’s website or listen to it on Spotify or Apple Podcast. Seek The Joy Summit is April 10th at 10 am PT, read all about it!

Most people treat their body and mind like two separate things. Amanda Armstrong discovered that this approach didn’t help her, and she found out that several clients that reached out to her to work out also needed a safe space for their minds. That’s why she created Rise As We, a safe place for women who want to address their mental and physical health as one. She developed programs to take care of the different needs that she and other women had: from struggling with depression and anxiety to postpartum activities in an environment free of the toxicity that other workout places can have.

Highlights:

  • Amanda tells her story, from kinesiologist graduate that worked at Google, to founder of Rise As We. Her studies led her to think how to address mental health through a non-traditional form.
  • My ‘me’ time. Working at Google, Amanda learned that even the people that we might consider as successful have their own struggles. She developed a space where not only they could do some physical workout, but also where they could stop worrying about work & family responsibilities and focus on themselves.
  • We need to train our brains in a new way. Our brains are always ready to judge ourselves in the most negative way, for anything that we have done or even thought. For Amanda, everyone goes through this, but you can learn to not let it affect you.
  • Amanda created the different programs of Rise As We thinking of what she needed at different times of her life, addressing physical and mental health at the same time. Mental health looks different for everybody, and this is another option available for those who need it.
  • Amanda highlights what the anxiety or depression looks like or feels like, for anyone that might be having a hard time trying to figure out what they are going through. There is a solution, reach out.

There are places that are not so eager, historically, to accept women. Business school and car sales companies are those kinds of places. And our guest today defied both. She is Laura Lee Botsacos, founder of Apollo and Artemis Beauty by Equality, a skincare company that preaches beauty is in all of us, and skincare should not be limited by gender bias. But before that, Laura changed her life completely and went into business school.

Highlights:

  • From an actress to a businesswoman: Laura talks about her journey, she loved to be on stage, but after 9/11, she had to start again, and decided to go to business school.
  • The showroom is your stage. When Laura started to work in car sales, she found out that her skills as an actress could help her. For her, being a salesperson, manager, or even the owner of the company, is about creating a performance. Especially if you are a woman.
  • Laura endured a lot of rejection and prejudice when she started. People didn’t take her seriously when she started business school, when she started to work, or when she decided to start her own business of beauty products. It’s very common to feel out of place, she knows that and shares a few tips to deal with that situation and gain confidence in yourself.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask! Laura discovered a major difference between men and women when she was a salesperson: men asked, demanded, what they wanted. They would ask what they should do to close a sale, they would ask for a raise. And she, and other women, didn’t, even if they have all the reasons to do so. She decided to change her way of making things and started to ask, instead of accept or stay silent.
  • Do you want to buy a car? Although she is not working in that field, Laura knows how challenging it can be to buy a car for women. Having been on the other side, she shares some recommendations with our listeners.
  • Who were Apollo and Artemis? As an homage to her Greek ancestry, Laura named her beauty company after two greek mythology figures. She explains the concept behind their products: skincare products for everyone. Apollo and Artemis support inclusion and their products are also vegan and cruelty-free.
  • How to start your beauty line products? Laura did a lot of research. But she also thought a lot about the values of the company, the ethos. And she looked for someone that shared the same values to be her partner and chemist.

If you want to know more about Laura, follow her on Instagram. You can also check her products on Apollo & Artemis by Equality website.

Life can put you upside down. In the case of our guest today, this happened… twice! Tiffany Cheung lost her job at the beginning of the pandemic. As a single mom, she needed to find a job as soon as possible. It was during one of those interviews, that someone else realized what her passion was, and everything suddenly made sense. In just eight months, Tiffany started her career as a Social Media Coach, helping others to have clients instead of followers.

Highlights:

  • After losing her job, Tiffany was afraid to lose her house as well. During an interview, she talked about an Instagram Master Class where she taught people how to monetize their social network, someone told her: instead of putting that much effort and energy into a new job, put them into your own project.
  • There isn’t just one way to succeed. For Tiffany, starting her own business meant breaking the more traditional concepts about what and how a business should be, or what you should do.
  • Start thinking about what's possible! Tiffany believes that if you only look at your actual situation, it is easy to get stuck. But when you look around you, to what other people have done, you will see another way, other possibilities. It’s about changing your mindset.
  • What works for me? Tiffany talks about finding out what is best for you, even if it is something different from what other people are doing. Release your vanity metrics, and make posts with intention. Tiffany is all about quality over quantity. Learn to work smart.
  • How to customize your social media? Find content, people that resonate with you, that align with your values. Check how you feel when you are on social media, look at your boundaries.
  • You don’t need to go viral. Tiffany recommends to stay away from becoming viral on social media, instead, see with whom you connect, how you are doing that, and how you could attract people aligned with you. Be authentic, your audience will notice and appreciate it.

Cassidy talks with us about how sweating and sharing activities brings women together. Also, how #GirlGetAfterIt donates part of the sales to many nonprofit organizations that support women so that the backing has a wider reach.

  • Cassidy talks about how #GirlGetAfterIt started; how her father’s death contributed to her making a shift in her life and turning into a coach and personal trainer, and later the owner of her own marketing agency.

Did you know that even the smallest parts of your routine may connect you with your spirituality? Being curious and receptive is the best way to practice our spiritual or even our religious facet. Our guest today is Alexandra Trevisan, psychologist, Doctor in Chiropractic by the Southern California University of Health Sciences , founder of spiriosity.com and host of different events such as How To Turn Your Pain Into Your Superpower.

Highlights:

  • Alexandra talks about her former job as a chiropractor, and how she has always been interested in religious and spiritual issues. Her curiosity led her to interview different people, which evolved into hosting her own Podcast called Spiriosity.
  • The different ways in which the Eastern and Western hemispheres of the world considered healthcare, and how they constituted their religions, may help us understand how our societies were formed, and even how they work nowadays.
  • Alexandra likes the idea of an inter-faith dialogue, and remarks that the difference between spirituality and religion is not usually distinguished. Religious and spiritual identity is fluid; there are multiple truths existing in multiple ways.
  • Talking with others about religion is kind of a taboo topic, but Alexandra remarks that if you can consider everyone´s truths as valid, being humble and curious, a productive conversation can take place. You may understand your own way of considering things and see humanity in others. An open mind and heart may allow you to learn and connect with the world.
  • It is important to let people speak their truth in their own way. If we dig deep enough everything is religious or spiritual.
  • Alexandra gives us some tips to integrate spirituality into our lives, like undergoing a self-reflective process, having some alone time and asking ourselves some important questions.

Having a community that you trust and that is constantly pushing you up towards reaching your goals is a true blessing. Today’s guest, Carrie Murray is a community builder herself: Carrie is a speaker, podcast host, and the Founder of BRA (Business Relationship Alliance), a network of powerful female entrepreneurs devoted to advancing women-owned businesses by providing the community, collaboration, empowerment, and support needed to flourish as an entrepreneur.

Highlights:

  • Carrie’s journey from being a public school teacher for 14 years, to taking a leap into entrepreneurship and trying to create her own school but not really succeeding
  • Eventually, Carrie started to attend networking events to learn about marketing and branding, but she quickly realized that those were not going to work out: they were full of men and the tone was rather salesly
  • Discovering a need in the market, Carrie decided to start hosting networking events for women at her own backyard and slowly but surely her community grew bigger and bigger
  • Carrie decided then to invest all of her money and efforts into building the BRA Network: a place that could unify all women, and where they all had something in common
  • Although BRA used to host a lot of in-person events, when the pandemic happened, Carrie managed to adapt her business perfectly to 100% online functionality.
  • Carrie explains how she usually hosts online events with nonprofit organizations in order to fundraise towards a good cause
  • Creating trades with brands or with people in general can be sometimes tricky, and Carrie gives out her best trips to manage then like a pro
  • First person testimonials of your brand, product, or service are key to generate more engagement and empathy with your audience.
  • The importance of following through after having great connections at networking events: if you promise to email someone, do so!
  • Carrie explains how she is connected (in a hilarious way) to awesome people such as Leonardo DiCaprio and the Queen Elizabeth herself!

Mentorship may sound like an intimidating practice, but it’s really not! You just have to think of it like a relationship where someone with more knowledge guides someone with less knowledge. This is how today’s guest, Niamh Donoghue, perceives it. Niamh is the CEO and founder of Soundboard, a platform connecting people through events, workshops, and 1:1 peer mentorship. Through a mutual exchange of personal, professional, and life experiences, its goal is to kick-start a feeling of contagious motivation in its immediate communities and beyond. Mentorship doesn’t sound so intimidating now, does it?

Highlights:

  • Niamh talks about her journey from growing up in a small town in Ireland to following her hunger to visit big cities: she studied Fashion Communication in Scotland and then she ended up getting a job at a fashion brand that she loved in San Francisco.
  • After 3 years, Niamh moved back to the UK after realizing that a lot of the progress she had made over the years was because of her mentors. However, she realized that mentorship was really hard to find and she decided to make it easier for people by creating Soundboard.
  • Mentorship is quite a simple concept, but people still feel intimidated by this practice. Niamh believes that this has happened because we tend to complicate things, but it’s time to bring mentorship back to basics.
  • Niamh describes in detail the formula that has helped build Soundboard, which is based on three pillars: being curious, giving more than you expect to receive, and just enjoying the journey towards mentorship.
  • We always need someone to show us how something is done in order to feel that something is possible: this is the root to mentorship!
  • Niamh reveals a curiosity of the Irish alphabet that you for sure had no idea about!

The world of public relations may sound intimidating or not quite understandable for many of us. Luckily, today’s guest is here to clear everything up! Lexie Smith is the founder of The PR Bar Inc., an inspiring brand that specializes in educating motivated entrepreneurs on how to expand their impact, influence, and revenue through PR. With 10 years of PR and marketing experience, Lexie has helped countless companies and entrepreneurs gain accelerated success through the world of public relations. Listen up in order to succeed too!

Highlights:

  • The importance of understanding that public relations is so much more than just appearing on TV shows or magazines; it’s actually an umbrella of organic marketing.
  • Lexie explains the main differences between marketing and PR. Although people tend to mix these two entities up, they are not that similar.
  • Lexie describes how she discovered her passion for teaching PR. She used to work for entrepreneurs and CEOs who did not quite understand how PR worked and Lexie loved explaining that in detail. Also, she discovered a need in the market; at that time, PR coaches were not popular and she dared to dive into that field.
  • Before hiring a PR coach or agency, it’s important to get your assets in order: make sure you have high-quality photos, media kits, a solid website, etc.
  • Lexie briefly explains the six different PR relationships that exist. To get started in PR, you need to choose which one of these to focus on based on your objectives.
  • People tend to wonder if there is such a thing as “bad PR.” Well, for Lexie there is, and although it depends on your core objectives, having a negative review of yourself, your product, or service is not beneficial at all.
  • However, it’s important to note that even if you do everything perfectly, you may still get hate and people always find a way to criticize you––that’s completely normal.
  • Networking and community building play a huge role in PR; your business is most likely to benefit from it!

Entering motherhood and thinking about the education of your child can be a stressful and overwhelming process. Luckily, today’s guest, Stephanie Trzaska is passionate about helping children and their families find joy, peace, and connection. This is why she created her own company called Little Scraps of Magic, a nurturing digital community which provides a space for moms to chat, listen to experts, and seek answers to their questions without feeling judged. What’s more, Stephanie has an MA in Montessori Education and nearly a decade of experience as a Montessori teacher, which makes her an expert in finding out what truly motivates children when learning new skills.

Highlights:

  • Stephanie explains how her expectations about motherhood were blown away once her son was born, and how the reality about being a mom turned out to be so much better than what she had expected.
  • How her own company, Little Scraps of Magic, started out as a simple Instagram account where pictures of her son were posted, and then it evolved into a strong digital community for mamas and moms-to-be.
  • Stephanie describes her journey to become a Montessori teacher and explains how this alternative education is different from the traditional one.
  • Recommendations on how to implement chores in the house with a Montessori approach.
  • Stephanie, as a resourceful mom, encourages parents to use cloth diapers for their babies since it’s not that scary to try out and it’s truly beneficial for the environment (and for the pocket!)
