This week the boys agreed that it was time for a film review, so they decided on the 1997 Jodie Foster Film, Contact. Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway, a SETI scientist who finds evidence of extra-terrestrial life and is chosen to make first contact. This was reviewed back in July 2016 on the Sci-Fi Waffle podcast with Shawn and Paul. There were issues with that review so, 9 years later we will include Dan and have a more meaningful discussion this time round. Thanks to Snips Movies, my local DVD rental store, for providing the DVD for me to watch. £2.50 a movie is cheaper that Netflix or Amazon.

In Episode 39 we were lucky and honoured to speak to prolific Sci Fi Author Julia Huni. Julia has published 20 books between 2018 and 2021, has short stories in 5 Anthologies and has just started writing for the Kindle Vella serial series. If that wasn't enough we find out that after college, she served nine years in the US Air Force. Over the years, she's been an IT guy, a stay-at-home-mom, a college professor, a NASA executive assistant, a NATO branch director, and that lady at the information desk in a tourist town. She's also played piano at church and studied Tae Kwon Do.
Julia takes us through her writing process, what motivates her to write and her competitiveness with her sister.

Brian Baker, Dan Levitt and Colin Higgins. These three people were podcast hosts on different shows, and we have podcasted with them to varying degrees over the last 8 years or so.
Sadly, all three have since passed away at ridiculously young ages. They were very talented, had an incredible knowledge of Star Trek and Sci-Fi in general, and, of course, (as well all do) podcasted just for the love of talking to like minded people about the shows they loved so much.

Recently J Michael Straczynski was given the green light to reboot his 1990s Sci-Fi classic TV series Babylon 5. He wasn't sure he could re-cast the roles, so he got in touch with the guys at the Cosmic Pizza Podcast and asked us to help. Sadly, most of the cast of that show has passed away or are too old to reprise their roles, so the boys had to use contemporary actors. After much time spent on the casting couch, they compared notes to see who should take the roles of Jeffery Sinclair, John Sheridan, Susan Ivanova, Michael Garibaldi, Dr Franklin, and the Ambassadors, Kosh, G'Kar, Mollari and Delenn. Listen in to hear who each one of us thought would be the best actor for the parts and why.

When was the last time you rented a DVD? Was it that long ago that it was actually a VHS Video? More than likely it was from Blockbuster or maybe even a local Video Rental store. But those days are long gone and with the advent of online streaming, Satellite and Cable TV they have killed off all the DVD rental stores.
But there are still two dedicated DVD Rental Stores that are still trading today in the UK.
In this episode we have a very special guest on the show. Dave Wain is the owner of Snips DVD Rental store in the North West of England and he explains to us why there are only two left in the country and tells us why he feels the need to keep going.
With over 13,000 films in his store dating from 1915 to present day it is one of the most extensive collections in the UK if not the world. If you live in the are of the Wirral in the North West of the UK then it is worth popping in and having a look.

It is Episode 13 and Paul has had a new broadband provider installed in his home. However, that provider does not want him to talk about Conspiracy Theories so disconnects his broadband for an hour. Eventually the connection is made by re-routing the power from the flux capacitor and all is well. (Well, that’s my conspiracy theory anyway.) Todays subject was being touted by Dan and Shawn and only a few days later Paul was talking to a colleague at work who mentioned that a relative of his was doing a podcast about conspiracy theories. What a coincidence! So we contacted Kacey from The Cult Vault who also does the Conspiracy Vault Podcast and we were delighted to find that she wanted to come on to the show. In this episode we are joined Paul's friend Lee Tomlinson. Listeners to the Sci-Fi Waffle podcast may remember lee's appearance on a couple of shows. To say he is a film buff is an understatement, as he has the biggest DVD/Blu-Ray collection I have seen and what he doesn’t know about films is not worth knowing. Today Lee picks his to 10 movies that he owns, and we discuss them in depth. In episode 8, while Dan take as well deserved break with his family, Shawn and Paul talk about Cyborgs. We play an excerpt from a TED Talk titled “How we'll become cyborgs and extend human potential” by MIT Professor and artificial limb wearer Hugh Herr. He explains how the latest advancements in technology have helped develop robotic replacement feet and how it meant that a friend of his could return to mountain climbing after a fall meant he had to have a foot amputated.
Shawn tells us what a cyborg is and lists the top 12 most famous cyborgs in TV and Film. Can you guess who is at No.1?
