The Nintendo Archive Podcast is a one-man retrospective review show that covers in detail every Nintendo Console and handheld system and the game library allotted to each. Every Friday night, a new Nintendo title will be explored in a deep dive, examining its successes, its blunders and its oddities. Additionally a comparison between the game and other games with which it shares a franchise, genre or console will be provided, followed by a ranking and recommendation. Feel free to send in emails that will be answered on the show. The address is nalistenerq@gmail.com.
Aside from a slight rebranding, it's business as usual. A little is said about February's Direct, followed by reviews on Game & Watch Gallery 3, Beetle Adventure Racing, & Doom 64 respectively. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
It's a nice jam-packed episode featuring a discussion on meaningful collectibles, prompted by an email, a critique of one of the Switch's crown jewels, & a review of the sequel to Rare's crown jewel. Going forward the show will be undergoing some brand changes but it will still be the same show. Questions or Comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
I AM TUROK!!! For episode 42, I'm reviewing Turok 2. It's quite the adventure game, full of monstrous foes, outlandish weaponry & labyrinthian levels; also dinosaurs. Questions or comments, send them to nalistenerq@gmail.com
A review of Jet Force Gemini that's all up & down with the game's highs & lows. Followed by an email section about Ocarina of time. Question or Comment? Send to Nalistenerq@gmail.com
It's a shorter & hopefully more digestible episode for 39. In addition to Yoshi's story, I also touch on Game & Watch Gallery 2. Questions or comments? Please send to nalistenerq@gmail.com
Lo Behold, the Lord of the Waves, Tis Wave Race 64, & bequeathed to me from me for review. There's also more Gameboy Color to talk about in the titles MegaMan Xtreme 2 & Pokemon Puzzle challenge. Questions or comments? Send to nalistenerq@gmail.com
The equivalent to a foreign film (for a foreign audience?), I have Sin & Punishment. Also, 007's The World Is Not Enough for review. Both were released on the N64, the console that I am currently centering my retrospective. I like one game, & don't much care for the other. Questions or comemnts can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
With my Guest Stephen, we talk Ocarina of time & only Ocarina of time......all the time. A lot of things have been said about this legendary game, & boy howdy we say all of it, & more! Hope you enjoy!
Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com. If you want to reach out to Stephen, lvl1sword@gmail.com
On the show as a guest, we are joined by Stephen from the Level 1 Sword podcast. We talk about Jedi Fallen Order, Pokemon Blue, Age of Calamity, & Fire Emblem Awakening. We then talk about the legacy of N64 development. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
For this one, a brief talk about Nintendo's 3rd party showcase that happened in spring, & some talk about Mario Strikers Charged. Afterward, its reviews for Extreme G, & Mario Party 2. Questions or comments can go to nalistenerq@gmail.com
An episode of ranting & raving. Unfortunately, my chair broke in the 3rd hour, & so there are some loud creaks from that point forth, as well as the intermittent meowing of a cat, faintly audible. The Shantae review begins at the 4-minute mark (or so), The Perfect Dark review starts a minute or so after the hour & 15-minute mark, & Dk64 kicks off at the 2-hour & 20-minute mark, give or take. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com to be read on the show.
Unfortunately, Audacity ate the original episode 33, so I threw this together quickly. First section is all about Battle for Naboo, Factor 5's follow up spin-off to rogue squadron, & the second covers Shadows of the Empire. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
This episode sees me reviewing two Star Wars classics, & also Warioland 2, I might also talk about other things too. Star Wars Rogue Squadron is a near-perfect distillation of the Star Wars property, and an exercise in procedural gameplay methodology; whereas Star Wars Episode 1 Racer represents the singular pursuit of SPEED! Unfortunately my chair was squeaker than I thought, & at several points, the fan AC was blaring real bad, & I couldn't edit it out w/o it undercutting the audio. Questions or comments go to nalistenerq@gmail.com
In addition to reviewing Smash Bros 64 & Turok dinosaur hunter, you can also enjoy reviews for Donkey kong Land 2 & Game & Watch Gallery. Comments & questions can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com.
I'll be pithy with this episode's rundown: I review Molemania & Banjo Kazooie, and I also talk about the closure of Nintendo's legacy eshops, & the February direct. All counted, I had nice things to say, & some not-so-nice things as well. Hope you enjoy. Please email at nalistenerq@gmail.com
I recorded this audio a while ago, but due to extensive editing & limited time, I have only now just finished producing this episode. Regardless I hope anyone listening enjoys it, as I discuss Diddy Kong Racing, & answer an email. Any questions or comments can be shot over to nalistenerq@gmail.com.
This episode is all Star Fox! Considered Iconic by many, it was only fitting that I find an additional person to help me espouse the virtues of Star Fox 64. Stephen (from Level 1 Sword) & I rang as much as we could out of this N64 classic, but even so, I do not think we covered everything this game has to offer. So if you have anything to add on Star Fox 64, a question, or a topic you want discussed, the email is nalistenerq@gmail.com. In the meantime, hope you enjoy the show!
In this episode, I got some much-needed help from Nick & Josh, of the Loud Thumbs podcast, with reviewing an N64 classic. Along with the review, the three of us talked about a litany of other games & topics. All in all, it was a big bag of fun, & is well worth the listen. However, due to a family member coming through the door with groceries, there are some unfortunate, door creaks, bangs, & even paper abg crinkles in the last 30 min of the show. I was very distraught by the noise, & my intonation actually sounds flat & dejected in the last 10 min as a result, but otherwise, the show went swimmingly, so I hope you enjoy. I would also highly recommend checking out Nick & Josh's content by going to loudthumbs.com; they have a cavalcade of content that they produce. As for me, I can be reached at nalistenerq@gmail.com.
As the title suggests the show is moving forward to new horizons, what does that mean? I don't know but it sounded nice. So tune in to see (hear) what is in store. As usual, all comments & questions are appreciated & can be sent to the email nalistenerq@gmail.com
This episode marks the end of my voyage with the Nintendo Wii, at least for now (a lot of games left to talk). I enjoyed my time with the Wii, & I hope you who are listening enjoyed hearing me talk about it. For this final episode, I reviewed Epic Mickey before diving into a number of different topics & lists, all concerning the Wii console, as a final Ode to the System. The next episode will, Lord willing, be the introduction of another piece of Nintendo hardware; so please look forward to that. If you have any questions or comments, send them over to nalistenerq@gmail.com.
Talking about three games in this episode, 2 of them getting reviewed, all of them, Mario titles. The first review is for New Super Mario Bros Wii, & the second is for Super Mario Galaxy, with Super Mario 3D World acting as a buffer between the two in this episode's what I have been playing section "or casual chat" as I might now call it (still workshopping it). As always questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com. Also, current wii game rankings are down below
Rankings
An episode like all the rest. In the first section of the show, I delve into thoughts on Bioshock Infinite, & following that I go into a review of Super Mario Galaxy 2. My thoughts on it might be a deviation from the norm. Questions or comments can be sent nalistenerq@gmail.com.
Hello! This episode marks the debut of a new segment, "Games I weirdly hate, & for weird reasons too". I hope you, the listener, enjoy it. I also have a few games, that I have been playing with the nephews, to talk about; followed by a review of the game mentioned above. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com. If you like the show, please leave a review on itunes.
Episode 21 is a fairly typical episode, though with E3 having recently transpired, I felt compelled to do a segment; not one E3 itself, but an adjacent topic. Afterwards, is a breezy review of ExciteBots. I am actually getting pretty close to wrapping up this particular hardware retrospective, only having a few more games to discuss, but they are all biggies, so tune in if that sounds like your cup of tea. As usual questions & comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com
Not contented with a 4 1/2 hour-long episode, I made this monster; I am very thankful that Stephen of Level Sword was so gracious as to stay for the whole thing. Twilight Princess was probably my favourite game growing up, & remains a metric by which I judge other games; needless to say, I was very happy to review it. Yet, despite the length, I do not believe Stephen & I covered everything there was to say about this game, but we came close. To whoever will listen, I hope you enjoy. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com, while Stephen can be reached at lvl1sword@gmail.com; he also has a podcast & youtube channel, both under the name, Level 1 sword. They are both quite good!
This episode was so big, I split it into two, part two is close behind (just need to add all the music). For episode 20, I was happy to have Stephen, host of Level 1 Sword, join me for a general discussion on the Wii hardware. He was also kind of enough to stay for a 5 hour review discussion for Twilight Princess, which can be heard in Part two of this episode. Questions or comments can be sent to nalistenerq@gmail.com; Stephen can be reached at lvl1sword@gmail.com
In this episode, I briefly speak on the Nintendo Direct that happened in February, & I mean briefly. After which, I dive right into the crown jewel of Nintendo's casual titles. I hope you enjoy. If you feel the urge to contact me, the email address is nalistenerq@gmail.com.
This episode features a review on Donkey Kong Country Returns, Retro's second Lazarus project. I can't really think of anything else to say. If you have questions, comments, or life-changing insights, the email address is nalistenerq@gmail.com
Apologies about the slow trickle, but now that school is done, I can edit the audio I have been sitting on. Aside from a review of Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, I also give some thoughts on how games are reviewed. Hope whoever listens to this enjoys, & if you want to reach out, the email is nalistenerq@gmail.com.
Hello to anyone that is still listening after my long absence. This episode is standard fare, featuring a small comparison between two platformers with opposing strengths & weaknesses, and then a review of Super Paper Mario. If you really enjoy this game, I am sad to say that you may not find my review all that flattering. Even so, I hope you enjoy the episode, and my humble opinions therein, & if you wanted to ask a question or make a comment, my email is nalistenerq@gmail.com.
Also, there will be a few more episodes on their way as well, provided I edit them in a timely manner
This episode is a return to the more standard format, being shorter and having multiple segments. The first portion of the show is more topical than usual, with a dive into the announcement of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, leading to some musings on the amount and quality of switch ports. After that in the News to Me segment, I talk about Red Steel, Link's Crossbow Training, and Rayman Raving Rabbids.
For this show's review, I chose Warioware: Smooth Moves; it's a hard game to describe, but I did my best. I'm excited to announce that I finally got an email, which I read on the show. If you want to send me a question or comment, the address is nalistenerq@gmail.com.
The music of this podcast was created by the artist, Frostyn. You can find the rest of their work at www.frostyn.com, Spotify or perhaps on other services.
For those curious about the Wii rankings as they currently stand. Here they are:
I know its been a month since the last episode, but this new episode is so long, it will make up for any episodes you were otherwise expecting. Honestly, it's probably too long. The Sole focus of this episode is Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and since I've always been fascinated with this title, the review got a wee bit out of hand. If you, the listener wanted to save yourself two hours of life; I'd recommend skipping the game synopsis that begins at 1:40(?) and goes to 3:45.
As I mention in this episode, The Nintendo Archive will be going on hiatus very soon. I probably will be releasing three more episodes, but after that, the show will be put on hold indefinitely. So if anyone had a question or comment they were planning on sending in; you have a small window to do so. The email address as always is nalistenerq@gmail.com
I wasn't playing anything this week, so I opted out of my News to me segment, and instead just focused on some miscellaneous thoughts which included Ocarina of Time's Master Quest, Smash Directs, bad reviews, etc.
As seen by the title, I then dived into Mario Kart Wii for this episode's review.
If you have any comments or questions, shoot them over to nalistenerq@gmail.com
For this episode, I talk about Shantae, one of the last big exclusives for the GameBoy Color. I haven't finished it yet so my thoughts are only worth so much. I then move on to Ubisoft's Red Steel 2, the tour de force in motion control sword fighting on the Wii, as well as a champion of style.
If you have any questions or comments, please send them to nalistenerq@gmail.com
Thanks
I almost uploaded this episode on time, but alas. For the first portion of the show, I talk about two well-regarded titles; Resident Evil 4 and Paper Mario (64). I concur with the former's high regard, but the latter's praise leaves me slightly confounded. If you like me, often confuse former and latter, you'll just have to listen in to find out which is which.
As for this episode's Wii review, I tackle Ubisoft Montpellier's Rabbids Go Home. What do I think about it?! I don't know, I forget; even so, I hope you enjoy the review.
If you have any questions, shoot them over to the email address: nalistenerq@gmail.com
This episode features only a brief section of what I've been playing, in which I talk about the unique platformer that is Gargoyle's Quest for the Gameboy. Then for this episode's review, I tackle Suda51's classic, No More Heroes, and also rope in its sequel No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle for a double review. I figured that if I talked about the games separately from one another, comparisons and reiterations would abound and you would hear the same point four times. So instead, I'm getting two birds stoned at once.
If you would like to send in an email, the podcast address is nalistenerq@gmail.com
For those who need the reminder, my current Wii game ranking thus far:
Sorry for the delay, I can't guarantee if it was worth it, even so, I hope you enjoy this episode.
The first section of the show is dedicated to Star Fox Adventures, going in-depth on the game's origins, its reception by fans, and also my own feelings on it 18 years after the fact. As always, the second portion of the show concerns a Wii title. The game featured this go-around is Mario Strikers Charged; the sequel to Nintendo's violent rendition of the beautiful game.
If you have any questions or comments you can send them to nalistenerq@gmail.com
In this episode, I start with my thoughts on two Gameboy titles: Balloon Kid, and Molemania. the former a sequel to the famous Iwata developed joust-like, and the latter an obscure Miyamoto puzzle game. After Gameboy, comes Gamecube as I then delve into the launch title Luigi's mansion, focusing particularly on the amount of creativity crammed into such a small package. I then talk about Metal Arms on the Gamecube, a childhood favorite, but it turns out I was mistaken to hold it in such high esteem.
Following a topic about game length, I move into the review portion of the show. If you any questions or comments shoot them over to nalistenerq@gmail.com
Here are the Wii game rankings up to this point:
In this episode of the Nintendo Archive, I focus on a trio of 007 games: the embryonic Agent Under Fire, the celebrated Nightfire, and the somewhat forgotten From Russia with Love. Thereafter I discuss a maligned entry in the celebrated, if not lucrative Metroid Franchise for my Wii game retrospective review. If you any questions or want your voice heard, you can reach me at nalistenerq@gmail.com. I hope you enjoy
Boy Howdy! Its been a while since I uploaded. This episode of the Nintendo Archive is dedicated mostly to what I've been playing for the past two weeks. After that's out of the way, I briefly explore a well-renowned shooter from a well-renowned developer in this episode's Wii game retro review.
If you have any questions, you can send them to the email address nalistenerq@gmail.com
In episode 5 of the Nintendo Archive, I discuss an early Wii title, Battalion Wars 2 followed up by Mega Man 5, in which I lament my ability to make headway against the robot masters. I proceed with a quick and dirty comparison between these two games that leads into a small topic regarding the difference between "keys and "tools", that wraps up the first segment of the show.
Then for our Wii game of the Week, I discuss the launch title, Excite Truck
If you have questions or comments, send them to nalistenerq@gmail.com and if you enjoyed the music of the Podcast be sure to check out its provider's website www.frostyn.com.
Its a long episode this week, beginning with a small dispassionate diatribe, and a quick revisit to Donkey '94. Up to this point I was making good time, but I squandered my head start on an hour long dive into our Wii game of the week. No emails, but that can be remedied; send your questions to nalistenerq@gmail.com
In today's episode of the Nintendo Archive, I briefly discuss Donkey Kong '94 for the Gameboy, followed by a lengthier talk on 007 Everything or Nothing, where I touch one the game's wide breadth of ideas.
Continuing on with our main feature, I review my second Wii game; bet you can't guess what game it will be.
I'd like to thank the artist, Frostyn for providing the music featured in this podcast.
In today's episode, I discuss two gameboy titles, making remarks on how these old titles can still impress. Afterwards I move into my discussion of Punchout on the Wii; going over its controls, graphics, difficulty, influences and whatever else I could think of. If you have any comments or questions, send them to nalistenerQ@gmail.com.
In the first episode the Nintendo Archive we go over the show's structure going forward, before moving on to what I've been playing, followed by a short discussion on the Wii. Questions and comments can be sent to nalistenerQ@gmail.com
