Vanessa and Malinda wanted to add some Amazon Links recommendations: Please note: We are not professional trainers, occupational therapists, physical therapists or doctors. These are products we used with our children that made life fun with a bit of fitness. Seek advice from a professional before using anything we have tried:
Please note again: we do make a small commission just by clicking on the amazon links. We use 100% of the funds to pay for the cost of the podcast. Podcasting is fun and we have a great time chatting. The costs are around $1000/yr. Thanks for listening :)

On this episode we dive into the world of mindful movements and pranayama breathwork, specifically tailored to benefit moms of neurodiverse kids. Thank you for joining us Cami and Michele!
Michele Rooney, MS, PT, is a physical therapist with over 24 years in professional practice. She completed a BA in Psychology and Sociology at New York University, and an MS in Physical Therapy at Columbia University. While working in the school setting during her early career, she also worked as a personal trainer. Although conventionally trained as a PT, Michele quickly realized that a conventional approach did not fulfill her personal philosophy of holistically optimizing health and function through the integration of mind, body and spirit. This inspired her to pursue certifications in Hatha Yoga, Yoga for the Special Child, Craniosacral Therapy, Reiki and Infant Massage. More recently, she has returned to her fascination with psychospiritual approaches to wellness by pursuing certifications as a Self-Sabotage Coach and in Hypnotherapy. In addition to her clinical specialty in pediatrics (autism/neurodevelopmental disorders and Early Intervention), she has extensive expertise in functional medicine in women’s health (hormonal balancing, peri menopause), and she is a GGS-1 Women’s Coaching Specialist. She considers herself to be a lifelong learner, and she excels at simplifying challenging and complicated topics.
Cami Smith has been a board certified music therapist working with children with neurodiversity for over 20 years and in 2018-2019 was introduced to Pranayama Yoga Breathwork training. She has been practicing breathwork since then for her own healing journey and worked with friends and family using this modality. She has seen immense changes in her own healing of her conscious and subconscious mind as well as experienced improved mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness. So many others have experienced altered lives due to the learning that comes from laying down and breathing for an hour. facebook.com/rhythmicminds - my business page; getting my website redesigned so it is not up yet. At the Gateway Center of Monterey County, Care & Compassion can be seen in all its programs—including the Without Walls program (WOW), which is designed to meet the needs of adults transitioning out of the classroom setting.
As individuals with developmental disabilities progress out of the school setting, they require a supportive environment to help them live full and productive lives with dignity and independence. With this in mind, Gateway Center expanded its care facilities to provide adult services in 1963.
Gateway Center has an extensive network of families, organizations, and professionals who proudly support the disabled community.

When her son was diagnosed with PANS in 2006, Erin left the doctor's office completely defeated and with little to no guidance. She also knew that the few treatments offered showed little promise. Armed with a computer and a curious mind, she began seeking out other mothers like herself and founded the Saving Our Pandas group on Facebook.
The early days consisted of a virtual round table of mothers who began to share their successes with myriad treatments, doctors and protocols and allowed many of those families to see the recovery of their precious children.
Of the countless interventions Erin attempted, homeopathy was one of the very first treatments that helped her son. She enrolled in a basic course to learn more and she has been learning ever since.
Erin completed her 200-hour course with the School of Intuitive Homeopathy in early 2021 with concurrent enrollment in additional coursework totaling another 200 hours. She went on to work with her original mentor, Angelica Lemke, N.D. in the Homeopathy Hive collective and founded Heart Wing Healing independently in mid-2021. A self-proclaimed lifelong learner, Erin's education continues with U.K. homeopath and acupuncturist, Hilery Dorrian, among others.
Erin's personal as well as professional experience has centered around the diagnoses of PANS/PANDAS, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Neuro-Immune and Autoimmune Disorders. She sees a variety of pediatric cases (along with their parents) from her online-based practice.
She currently resides outside of Austin, TX with her amazing teenage son and their giant dog, Thor.

Music is such an important part of life. Music can help to improve communication, social skills, and motor skills. It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety. And it can even help to improve cognitive function.
Stephen Flinn is a true professional who has been teaching for over three decades and has given over 25,00 drum and piano lessons, and facilitated over 2,000 special needs percussion ensemble classes.
Piano and percussion lessons with an emphasis on positive communication, social skills, and academic concepts.
Piano: Teaching piano using an alternative notation system that makes it much easier for the student to read than standard notation. The lessons are designed for cognitive development, ocular motor strengthening, fine motor strengthening, and social skills. The lessons are big fun too!
Percussion: These lessons are successful in addressing cognitive, emotional, and physical goals. Through inventive multi-sensory exercises the lessons teach and enhance skills such as maintaining focus, using memory, sequencing, reading, laterality, recognition and use of numbers, spatial awareness, fine and gross motor coordination, following instructions, and positive communication.
Through a perceptual motor match: VISUAL, TACTILE, and AUDITORY combined with speech (good for not yet verbal students too), the student sees the lessons, feels it, and hears it as they say the answers out loud. It is this redundancy of information that provides positive results.
Recording Artist for the following labels: Creative Sources Recordings, Nine Winds Records, Hypermodern, Lizard Records, Soleilmoon Recordings, Pax Recordings, Experimental Music Research, Reify Recordings, pfMENTUM, Edgetone Records, Inexhaustible Recordings. Composer, performer, and improviser who performs throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States.

Thank you Laura for sharing your story with us!
https://oliscookiescompany.com/
My story started a little over four years ago when I got the news that my son had low functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder.
That day, I cried and grieved over all of the plans and ideas that I had imagined for his future.
I dove deep into trying to understand the world of Autism and how I would best raise Oliver.
Soon after his diagnosis, I left my job as a chef and began my journey as a full time caregiver to him.
Over these last few years we have made so many new friends that have loved, guided and supported us along our journey. I am incredibly grateful that my eyes have been opened to a community of so many special people with similar disabilities. I believe Oliver is thriving!
He is a very sweet and loving boy. I was told years ago to teach him to read and expose him to as much as possible. So that’s what I do. We do things like soccer, swimming, baseball, surfing, cooking, traveling, art, community gatherings and much more.
As busy as I am with Oli, I have never stopped baking. It is my outlet for stress and anxiety and it’s a way that I can express and share my love with people.
I have been baking and sharing these amazing Plant Based Chocolate Chip cookies for over 3 years. I have finally decided to start packaging and selling them. It is my goal to continue to expose Oliver to many new adventures and help him thrive in life while spreading Autism awareness and acceptance one delicious cookie at a time.

Denise has been on the Autism journey with her son, Nathan for 20 years, diagnosed with autism at 2, he is now 22. She has gone down alot of "rabbit holes" in the 20 years without a lot of significant change looking to help her son. Since finding the Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement method as well as her own personal embodiment and healing journey, they are both thriving.
The missing piece that she believes is the Brain-Body disconnect and lack of embodiment that her son was struggling with. Also since starting to really ALLOW and let him be who he is, healing herself and beliefs around who he was and the diagnosis, he then started integrating more into this world, feeling his body, regulation of his nervous system, awareness of his emotions, environments etc.
Denise helps families deeply connect with themselves and their children on the spectrum. She does in person NeuroMovement lessons as well as coaching for parents online using the Anat Baniel principles. You can find out more on her website at www.awakenedbodymind.com. Traveling with children is always challenging, but for parents of children with autism spectrum disorder and/or mood and attention and distraction disorders, it can be especially intimidating. How should parents of children experiencing meltdowns deal with clueless and judgmental onlookers? What are the best methods to alleviate motion sickness when your child might already be on a cocktail of drugs? Traveling Different: Vacation Strategies for Parents of the Anxious, the Inflexible, and the Neurodiverse answers these and many other questions parents may have when traveling with their children.
Dawn M. Barclay presents travel strategies and anecdotes from Certified Autism Travel Professionals (TM), parents of special needs children, associations and advocates, and mental health professionals, broken down by mode of transportation and type of venue. The heart of the book outlines suggested itineraries for spectrum families and venues—such as museums—that cater to the unique special interests that are characteristic of individuals with autism. Barclay also discusses less common accommodations, such as dude ranches and houseboats, as well as vacations involving sports that readers might not immediately associate with ASD, such as diving, skiing, and golf.

Sometimes it is very difficult parenting a child with a developmental disability. Every day is go, go, go, repeat, hit a wall, start again, try something new, try something you’ve tried before. All of the day to day gets very exhausting.
Burnout happens, it’s ok. Tomorrow is a new day, the next hour is a new hour, even the next 15 minutes is new. Give yourself some time to process. Hang in there! We are here with you.

Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery, co-author Dr. Weiss, a proud Veteran and former U.S. Navy Commander, isa regional leader in advanced regenerative medicine.
He is laser-focused on utilizing umbilical cord stem cells to heal his plastic surgery patients and those with wounds from trauma and disease as well as deformities from birth or those acquired through life. Close to his heart is using regenerative therapy to treat autism.
He attended Duke University Medical School, where cutting-edge autism therapy is being studied and has found great success using stem cell therapy. His son, Marston, is on the autistic spectrum and, as a result of this therapy, Dr. Weiss has seen tremendous healing of his condition. Dr. Weiss’ goal is to restore wholeness to all patients by using umbilical cord blood stem cells to treat multiple health conditions.
“Umbilical cord blood contains powerful cells with chemical signals that optimize the healing capacity of the human body. They seek out inflamed cells that are old, damaged or injured, and are to restore them” said Dr. Eric Weiss. “Multiple studies demonstrate this cord blood can treat certain conditions successfully in children and adults including autism, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic brain injury and more.”
“Stem cell therapy has helped my son in so many ways. Children with autism have inflammation in their brains.
Stem cells combat inflammation. When we did stem cell therapy, we saw immediate results. Marston asked questions, he followed conversations, and he became acutely aware of his surroundings. Marston talked for conversation and not just for directions. Marston was more focused and his memory was spot on. To this day I still hear him use vocabulary words I never thought he knew and in the correct context. The veil was finally lifted and I saw who Marston really was,” said Chris Weiss.
Educating Marston is available for purchase now. The hardcover retail cost is $24.99 and is available for
purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Indie Bound, Walmart and Bam! Books-A-Million. For more information: visit: https://www.educatingmarston.com. https://northfloridastemcells.com/

So wonderful to chat with Lorri, we have so much in common. Our children are similar and share the same birthday just one year apart!
Lorri Unumb is a lawyer, mother of three teenage boys, and an internationally renowned autism advocate. She began her career as an appellate attorney with the United States Department of Justice and then as a full-time law professor. Following her son’s diagnosis with autism, she began volunteering for autism causes, writing ground-breaking autism insurance legislation for South Carolina (“Ryan’s Law”) that passed in 2007 and served as the catalyst for the national movement toward autism insurance reform. She served for a decade as the national head of state government affairs for the international nonprofit Autism Speaks. Lorri is also the founder of the annual Autism Law Summit, now in its 14th year, and is co-author of the law school textbook “Autism and the Law.” In 2010, she founded the Autism Academy of South Carolina, a nonprofit ABA center now known as The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment.

I HAVE BEEN BURIED UNDER YEARS OF DUST: A Memoir of Autism and Hope (William Morrow; On-Sale Date: April 6, 2021; $25.99) by Valerie Gilpeer and Emily Grodin is about Emily's transformation from a non-verbal autistic woman to an amazing writer, straight A student and passionate advocate for the voiceless.
Born with non-verbal autism, Emily’s only means of communicating were limited to one-word answers and physical gestures which often left her frustrated, angry and misunderstood. For years her parents Valerie and Tom sought the best doctors and treatment options in an effort to get Emily to communicate but nothing seemed to work. It wasn’t until a disastrous intercontinental flight from Ireland to Los Angeles, when Emily was twenty-five, triggered a miraculous communication breakthrough the following day. With the help of a trained specialist and a technique called Facilitated Communication Emily typed out the following phrase on an Ipad: “I have been buried under years of dust and now I have so much to say.”
That sentence opened up the floodgates of communication, and while Emily is still non-verbal, she hasn’t stopped “talking.” Now, at age 29, Emily is an avid writer of amazing poetry, maintains a 4.0 in all of her college courses and hopes to become an advocate for the countless other people like her who can’t communicate in the traditional sense but have so much to offer.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Emily Grodin is a poet. Valerie Gilpeer is a former attorney in Los Angeles who has been practicing law for forty years. Based on her own struggles navigating the school systems for Emily, she shifted her civil law practice twenty years ago in favor of representing families of disabled children trying to obtain educational services from local school districts. Joya Van Der Laan is a wife, mother of 3, family nurse practitioner, functional medicine specialist, and business owner. As if that didn't make life complicated enough, two of her three children have special needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED). After receiving her daughter's ASD diagnosis in 2014 when she was 3 years old, Joya's innate curiosity and passion for learning drove her to ask, "am I doing enough to help my children through these diagnoses?" Feeling woefully unprepared, even with her medical training and clinical background, Joya started researching treatments including both traditional and integrative options. It was overwhelming, eye-opening, hopeful, and exhausting all at the same time. "I very clearly remember feeling like I was in over my head, even as a trained medical professional. I wondered, 'how in the world must parents who have no medical background feel going through this?'" There were (and still are) feelings of guilt, grief, overwhelm, and exhaustion. This is what prompted Joya and her husband, Dave, to start Your Autism Game Plan, an online resource for parents and caregivers of children with ASD. Her goal is to provide a different perspective, including the integrative treatment options that are not generally discussed in the traditional medical and therapy settings. "Parents need to know this stuff because our kids need help beyond what is typically offered, and searching online is just too overwhelming and time-consuming," Joya says. In addition to all the free videos and other resources on the website, she is coming out with a fully online, self-paced course in the Spring that will offer parents a chance to learn practical and actionable ways that they create their child's Autism game plan, including safe and effective integrative therapies, and help their child manage many of the bothersome symptoms that so often come along with Autism.

Rebecca Robbins is a speech-language pathologist, who has spent many years of her career working with children, teens and adults on the autism spectrum.
Her goal (which I love and is just amazing) is to put the power back in the hands of the parent or caregiver by training and teaching them what she does in the therapy room. How amazing is that?! I have spent years trying to research and find programs that I could do at home.
Rebecca offers two online programs and has given our listeners a discount code, follow the links below:

Hello Everyone!
I am so excited to chat with Janice Kern about her son’s business. She brainstormed ideas and came up with something that would help her son gain job skills and thrive in his community. Wait until you hear the wonderful message behind the business!
Janice left her dental hygiene career to provide advocacy and therapy needs for her son with autism. She also volunteered at TACA (The Autism Community in Action) for over 10 years. She was a part-time staff member for two years where she held positions as the National Conference Coordinator, Mentor program Manager, National Chapter Manager, Interim Program Manager. Janine does amazing work for our community.
Today Janice has returned to her family dental business, Kern Family Dentistry https://www.kernfamilydentistry.com/

S2: Episode 7: The subjects no one wants to talk about as autism parents. Why are they so “taboo”? Let’s Chat
I asked the question: What are things or situations that are not talked about in our lives? Everyone considers them to be a “taboo-ish” subject or “we know” or suspect what’s happening but not wanting to ask or say anything about the subject. Could be about autism or yourselves or both.
This is what I learned… let’s start talking about the hard things, I’ll start.
Thank you so much for listening! Would love if you clicked on that review button. Share this episode with anyone that would find it helpful. Let’s start discussing the hard things we live each day and help each other.

Today it’s me, Malinda. The me that gave up hating myself and my life and moved onto self care, mind care. Yep, I am happy to say, I do not talk and think about autism 24/7, I take time for myself and that is 1000 percent ok. You can do it too! If you feel lost, give me a call. I can help!
I recommend some books that motivated me and helped me see the light at the end of the autism tunnel. That long tunnel of never ending therapy, school, paperwork and just all around shit show that never seems to end. NONE of these books are about autism. Put down the sensory book and read something fun! ;)

Thank you so much Kim for the chat! Kim helps families that are newly diagnosed (and beyond) change the potential outcome after that autism spectrum diagnosis. She went through a difficult time personally after her sons diagnosis and knew she had to get that joy back in her life.
We love our children and we want the best for them. We are desperate for answers, feel stressed and do not think we can ever find joy again. I have learned new things chatting with Kim and I know you will as well.
Her coaching is completely customized to the family. Her message is beyond amazing!
She has a great free download on her website. We talk about all of her services on the podcast.

**This is our story, some of you may experience different milestones, I personally think any accomplishment no matter how small should be celebrated. This is why I wanted to share our “would nevers”
Just as I was writing down things that I thought Paige would never do or accomplish… She surprised us with a big one! I decided to share via social media and make it into a series. Then I thought we could chat about it on the podcast. This episode Chad and I are chatting about some of the things we thought Paige would never do. Some very small to big mind blowing things! Did you do them in a way she thought she would… no. She did them her way and on her timeline, which is 100% ok with us. Paige is a Rock Star!
Be sure to share out this podcast to anyone who needs a pick me up and a never give up… subscribe, rate, review for free hugs and high 5’s :)

As Chad and I are going through the limited conservatorship process for our daughter in real time, I wanted to have an expert in the field to chat about the entire experience. Elizabeth explains the legal procedures involved in the process of conserving your child as they turn 18 years old.
What is a Conservatorship? What is the process for setting up a conservatorship? What are the powers the conservator gains? What to expect the day of the hearing?

Heather started an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) company that wanted to provide higher standards for her clients and families. When she became pregnant with her second daughter, and was about to give birth, she sold her company to the largest ABA company in America, Autism Learning Partners is 2016. Welcome to Autism Mastermind.
I was blindsighted at an IEP, a few years ago, with the word “transition”. I needed to come up with what my daughter would be preparing to do after she left school. I had no idea.
So I sat around one night and brainstormed an idea. I thought - Why do we not have a group of parents and caregivers that come together and chat about our children's futures that is not associated with an organization that has already been established?
Share our thoughts, experiences, resources and build it if it’s not available in our community. I turned to social media and invited all of my autism family friends to join a meeting. I had no idea that others felt the same way and were lost on what to do next. I am a big believer in “We will figure it out” but why do I/We have to do this alone?
Chad and I started this podcast to document our daughters future and how we are going to build her life so that it would be exceptional, safe and fulfilling.
Coming together as a community to share information, share resources, plan futures and build what does not already exist… we are all “Autism Masterminds” we know our children and what they need. Let’s all share and learn from each other. We are all in it together.
Autism Mastermind... In it together
Chelsea is an amazing mom, blogger and advocate for her daughter on the autism spectrum. We chat about struggles with getting her daughter a diagnosis, therapies, getting back into her self care routine.

I asked the question:
Has anyone’s health took a turn for the worse since your child’s diagnosis or as your child has grown your health has faltered because you are still stressed, staying up or getting up at all hours of the night, anxiety is still high because of
worrying about the future, ... etc?
I have noticed my own health is suffering from lack of sleep as Paige has gotten older and I’m still up all night. I always thought.. when she’s older she will finally sleep. Well so far it’s a no.
So this got me thinking, I can’t be the only one who feels this way.
I talk about what parents shared and some solutions. Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your health issues and concerns. It is a hard life and we all need to talk about ourselves as parents and caregivers and what we go through on a daily basis. Let’s help each other, even if it's just to offer support or to give a nod of understanding.

I have known Alycia for over 30 years! Alycia is not only an amazing mom to son Jack she works in the autism field as a para!
We chat about her life before diagnosis, getting her son's diagnosis and his journey thus far, plus her plans for his future. Also, the importance of self care, especially as our kids get older. We all have the same stories; anxiety filled days of worrying about our families, trying to find providers, basically just trying to survive.
This is one of my favorite episodes! I am so glad we reconnected after many years and I thank you, Alycia, for sharing your story. Especially about the harder times in life.

On this episode we are talking all things holidays. The good, the eh and the mindset change. If you find the holiday season stressful, it’s doubly stressful with autism. Especially if you throw food allergies and anxiety in the mix. It ends up being a cluster of tangled Christmas lights that never light up because one bulb is always missing, but you keep trying and trying to make those lights twinkle. So...Guess what we did?
Please share your holiday stories! Do you have a favorite holiday? DM us on social :)

Bonus: Paige loves her! She is like a big sister. Thank you so much, Jen, for being on the podcast and for being apart of our family.
