What are you building your life on? What brings stability and endurance to our lives? Our families? Our communities? A faith that endures is built on the solid rock of Jesus. Pastor Steve shares from the parable found in Luke 6:46-49.
Pastor Dan continues our series, Stories of Intent, as he examines Luke 12:32-42 where Jesus teaches his listeners to be ready and dressed for action. Are we dressed and ready for action in our spiritual lives?
Luke 16:19-31- Jesus tells the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus as a warning to those who are slow to see. May we always see the need before us and be moved to action.
Pastor Neyda explores the Parable of the Wedding Feast of how we've been invited to the wedding feast and that we are called to invite others to the table of God.
In Matthew 13, Matthew tells a story about the receptivity of different kinds of soil to the seeds of faith. What kind of soil does the Gospel find in our hearts?
The world encourages us to indulge and give into our passions and desires. "If it feels good, do it." The Scriptures teach us another way to combat sin and to allow our lives to testify to the life Jesus desires for us.
We live in a world that elevates power, dominance, and even violence. The Bible teaches something different: Gentleness. This week, we look to see that gentleness begins with God, is exhibited in Jesus' life, and consider how it can be evident in our lives as we live with one another.
As we continue in our series on the Fruit of the Spirit, we look at the virtue of Faithfulness. The Scriptures tell us that God is faithful- as those who follow Jesus, we are called to be faithful in our walk with God and in our relationships with others.
We see an emphasis on kindness wherever we go, but we don't always see it practice. Deep and meaningful kindness starts with God and extends to those around us. Join us as Pastor Neyda walks us through what it looks like to live out kindness.
What if people described you the same way the Bible describes God? Gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love. This is what it looks like when we truly follow Jesus and live out the fruit of the Spirit!
What is peace? The absence of conflict? A peaceful feeling? When Paul speaks of Peace in Galatians, he is speaking of how Christians are to live in the world. This morning, we explore what it looks like to cultivate peace in our lives.
In our Cultivate Fruit series, we examine joy as evidence that the Spirit of God is alive in us. Christians should find and share joy with the world rather than being sour and downcast because the joy of the Lord is our strength!
It all begins with love. When Paul writes about love in the Fruit of the Spirit, he is most likely talking about loving our neighbor. Who is your neighbor? 🤔 Jesus might surprise you with His answer. It's not always who we expect... and sometimes it's the people we struggle with the most.
As we begin a new series on the Fruit of the Spirit, Pastor Steve walks us through the importance of becoming like Christ in word and deed, and how a Christ-like life will produce fruit that looks like Jesus.
On Resurrection Sunday, we listen to the words of John in his 1st letter as he recalls the experience of seeing the resurrected Christ, and how that fueled his ministry.
Pastor Neyda walks us through the final sign of Jesus in the Gospel of John: the raising of Lazarus from the tomb. We consider how Jesus meets us in these low places and yet does not leave us here.
In John 9, Jesus heals a man who was born blind. The Pharisees cannot believe what they see. It turns out that those with sight cannot truly see. May God give us eyes to see who Jesus is and to see those who Jesus loves.
This morning, we look at John 6:6-21 where Jesus comes to the disciples on the water and calms the storms. Sometimes, Jesus works in us before our circumstances change around us. The presence of Jesus allows us to bring peace wherever God leads us.
In John 6, we are told of Jesus feeding the 5,000. Part of the miracle is the abundance that Jesus offers the people. In a world where love, grace, and mercy often seem scarce, Jesus offers more than we could imagine.
Pastor Steve picks up on the third sign of Jesus in the Gospel of John in chapter 5 where Jesus encounters a man with a disability for 38 years. Jesus asks him, "Do you want to be made well?" This is a question we must ask ourselves when we've allowed our identity to be shaped by the world's messages and scripts rather than by Jesus.
Today we begin a new series where we investigate the signs, or miracles, of Jesus in the Gospel of John. These signs point to who Jesus is and the mission he came to fulfill. This week, Pastor Neyda takes us through the miracle at the Wedding at Cana of Galilee to show us that Jesus is Just in time and more than enough.
As we celebrate the ministry of the laity of Avenue Church, Rev. John Van Tine shares about the call for all persons to engage in ministry.
As we begin the New Year, many people are making resolutions and seeking to live in step with God. How do we hear and understand God's purpose and plans for our lives? This week, Pastor Steve shares four steps to gain clarity in discerning God's will for our lives.
Many of us have experienced the challenges and trials of life. We stress, worry, and are filled with anxiety. Where do we find peace in the midst of life's troubles? On this second Sunday of Advent, we look to the story of Joseph and the peace he received from God.
It's the first week of Advent! As we light the first candle on the Advent Wreath, we look at the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth and how they experienced hope in the midst of lifelong disappointment.
Pastor Steve looks at Luke 17:11-19 as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving. Within the text there is the encouragement to look for gratitude in unexpected places, and a warning not to give into the temptation to be jaded or cynical during this season of thanks.
On this Christ the King Sunda, Pastor Neyda points us to the greatest of Jesus and reminds us that Jesus should be first in our life and praise.
In John 14, Jesus teaches that the disciples will do "greater things" than he did. How often do we pass over the greater things God has for us in order to maintain the status quo in our lives. This morning, we want to consider the possibilities and dreams God has for us.
We continue in our series, Greater Than, by looking at the teaching of Jesus in Luke 12 when he is asked about a shared inheritance. Jesus challenges us to trust in God rather than pursue comfort and security.
This morning we are honoring and remembering the saints who have gone before us as we listen to the ways their lives lead us to deeper faith in Jesus and hope in God.
This morning we begin a new series entitled GREATER THAN where we will be looking at how the Church is a WE MOVEMENT rather than a ME MOVEMENT. The Spirit has empowered all people to ministry. What dreams for the church is the Spirit giving you?
This morning, we conclude our series on the I AM statements of Jesus by looking at John 11:17-37 where Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life." While we have hope of resurrection, perhaps the resurrected life begins much sooner for those who put their faith in Jesus.
This week. we look at Jesus' statement that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and what that means for us today as we seek to live as Jesus' disciples.
In John 15, Jesus describes himself as the true vine and his followers are the branches. We look at what it means to live as people connected to Jesus and the kind of fruit that followers of Jesus will produce.
Jesus says that he is the Good Shepherd in John 10. In this description Jesus' gives of himself is a call for each believer to know and discern the voice of Jesus in order to follow him.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus describes himself as "the light of the world." What does it mean that Jesus is the light of the world and how do we live as a reflection of that light?
In John 6, Jesus says that he is the "bread of life." This morning we look at what that means for Jesus to be the only thing that can take away our emptiness.
We kick off the Fall and begin a new series in the Gospel of John. This week, we consider what it means that God came to earth to show humanity a better way of living now, and the way of salvation. This has implications for the kind of Church that God is calling Avenue to be.
We conclude our summer series, Minor Prophets/Major Message, with a look at the book of Habakkuk who encourages Israel that even when circumstances are terrible, God is still good.
In the final message in our series LOVE | SERVE | LEAD, Pastor Steve discusses what it means for disciples of Jesus to Lead Courageously. Is This Your First Time Worshipping With Us? There is a temptation in the church to think of service as a duty that we do whether we like it or not. Instead, Christians are called to serve our community and world with joy, following the example of Jesus. It is a privilege to serve!
We begin a three week series based on the new mission statement for The United Methodist Church. We are excited about the statement that describes disciples of Jesus Christ as those who LOVE BOLDLY, SERVE JOYFULLY, and LEAD COURAGEOUSLY. This morning, Pastor Neyda walks us through what it looks like for Christians to Love Boldly.
The prophet Malachi writes after Israel has returned from exile and convicts the nation of neglecting their worship of God. This week, we look at how we might rob God of what truly belongs to God.
The prophet Malachi writes after Israel has returned from exile and convicts the nation of neglecting their worship of God. This week, we look at how we might rob God of what truly belongs to God.
We often think about worship as an event that takes place for an hour or so on Sunday morning. The prophet Amos reveals that kind of worship that pleases God- and it's more than attending an event.
In this week's sermon, we look at the overarching story of Hosea and God's direction to marry a woman of less than ideal background. In Hosea, we see an image of our unfaithfulness and God's enduring faithfulness.
After times of powerful ministry, Elijah is filled with despair and even wishes to die. God meets Elijah at his lowest point- and meets us there as well.
While the Trinity is a hard concept to grasp, it is an core doctrine as a Christian. We look at how the Trinity invites us into community that abides with Christ and one another.
Pentecost is the season where we remember the Holy Spirit being poured out on the disciples. More than spiritual gifts or abilities, the Spirit's presence is evidence of God's love being poured out on believers.
We conclude our series in Daniel looking at Daniel in the Lion's Den. This well known story from Sunday School encourages us that God is at work even when the circumstances say otherwise!
In Daniel 4, Nebuchadnezzar has another dream that only Daniel can interpret. Though this dream has to do with the King's pride and what happens when it goes unchecked.
The 3rd Chapter of Daniel gives us the memorable account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and their calm faith that allowed them to stand before King Nebuchadnezzar. God works in their lives, not saving them from the fire but saving them in it.
What does it mean to be wise? In Daniel 2, Daniel and friends have their backs against the wall, tasked to do the impossible. God provides wisdom and knowledge to save their lives and their colleagues. Christians are called to seek wisdom and to live wisely in the land.
This morning we begin a new series, The Daniel Dilemma, where we will look at Daniel 1-6 and how God helped Daniel and friends to remain faithful in a culture of compromise. Â Today, we look at Daniel 1 and how the currents of exile threatened to erase memories of Yahweh from Daniel and how he made room for God to work in a foreign land.
Pastor Dan looks at the continuing Easter story when Jesus shows himself to the disciples. What happens when Jesus shows up in our lives?
It's Easter Sunday! This morning we worship the Resurrected Christ! Pastor Steve will look at two paintings that convey the hope of the first Resurrection Sunday. Jesus resurrection changes everything! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed!
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as we process to the Cross and the empty tomb. This morning, Pastor Neyda shares about Jesus the King- riding into Jerusalem. Is Jesus the King of your heart?
This week we look at John 3:16-17 and how we are called to live out God's love once we've received God's love.
Matthew 25:1-13 | Jesus tells a parable about ten bridesmaids and their ability to be prepared for the coming of the Groom. It teaches us about how we are to live our lives as followers of Jesus.
Jesus sends the disciples out into ministry in Matthew 10, but not without first having an honest conversation about the challenges they will face. Still today, Christians are sent into a world that is not always welcoming. How should we respond when we find ourselves in the midst of wolves?
This week Pastor Neyda looks at Matthew 9:35-10:4 where Jesus teaches his disciples that the fields are ready for harvest- but that the workers are few. God is calling us to the fields!
Jesus consistently ministers in the margins, showing dignity and compassion while healing and setting people free. As we seek to follow the example of Jesus, we are called to the margins and must resist the temptation to call this ministry of mercy something evil.
Within the church, we talk about loving God all the time. Just how do we do that? In Mark 12, Jesus teaches the central message of the Scriptures and how we are to live our love for God by loving those around us.
As we continue our RE:JESUS series, Pastor Neyda looks at how Jesus broke down barriers by building bridges. In our polarized world, Christians have a responsibility to do the same.
Pastor Neyda leads us through our text of how we respond to Jesus when we believe we are too busy.
In Luke 5, Jesus helps Peter and the others with a miraculous catch of fish, and commissions Peter to be a "fisher of people." We look at what this means and how God uses our strengths to participate in the Mission of God.
In Luke 4, Jesus teaches in the Synagogue in Nazareth a sermon that would be remembered for a long time. It was controversial enough that the people tried to kill him. What kind of sermon would do that? How does Jesus' message inform our faith and the life of our church today?
This morning, we celebrate our laity who set an example of Christ-like service. We look at what it means to put our faith in Jesus that invites us to leap into service and ministry.
On the first Sunday of the New Year, we remember the Magi and others who pursued and encountered the light of Christ. May we commit to following Christ's light in 2025.
In the third week of Advent, we consider the joy that is experienced in the routine and mundane parts of our lives by examine the shepherds, who encountered the Heavenly Host during their workday.
As we continue our Advent Journey of Wonder, we look at Mary and the wonder found in anticipation of the birth of the Savior.
The season of Christmas is best observed through the eyes of a child who is filled with child-like wonder. There is plenty of wonder to see, if we have eyes to see it. Joseph's journey is one of wonder as he grapples with Mary's news and the angel's visit.
As we enter Thanksgiving week, we give thanks for the ways God has worked in our lives. We look at the prophet Joel for encouragement on how to see God's activity even through difficult times.
Philippians 2:19-30 | Paul sends Timothy and Epaphroditus for two different reasons to Philippi. We are all sent, but we are not all sent into ministry in the same way. Are you willing to be sent by God?
This morning we look at the Christ Hymn in Philippians 2:1-11. In it, Paul offers Jesus as our model as we are to have the same attitude Christ has in our relationship with others.
Today is ALL SAINTS SUNDAY where we remember the Saints who have gone on to glory and the witness they have provided us. We lift up the families who continue to grieve and pray that we would be faithful witnesses who hear "well done good and faithful servants."
We begin a new series that will cover the big picture of Paul's letter to the Philippians. We will pay particular attention to the ways in which Paul and others sacrifice as an expression of their faith in Jesus Christ. This week, we will look at Philippians 1:18-30 and consider how Paul has courage to sacrifice.
In order to produce "much fruit," disciples of Jesus need a structure, a plan, a rule of life to grow. This week, we look at the practices and structures that have provided structure for generations of Christians as we seek to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells his disciples that they will do even greater things than these. Discipleship means doing what Jesus did so that God can work through us. Join us as we continue our series Practicing the Way of Jesus.
As we practice the way of Jesus, we must first "be" with Jesus. He taught us to remain in him if we want to be fruitful in our Christian walk. This morning we will dive into John 15 and what it means to live life with Jesus.
In the Gospels, Jesus regularly invites listeners to consider a different way of living. As people of The Way, we are often called to "go against the flow" of the world around us.
The call to be disciples of Jesus is a call to apprentice with Jesus, following and doing what Jesus did. As we begin our series, Practicing the Way of Jesus, we look at what it means to apprentice with Jesus.
We kick off our Fall series, Practicing the Way, by consider how we can live the life that God calls us to. We are not called to a belief system, but a way of life only found in Jesus Christ.
sorry for the poor audio, we were outside and did not have our normal methods of capturing the audio.
Series is based on John Mark Comer's book, Practicing the Way of Jesus.

As we continue our series, we look at what it takes to experience peace in the midst of a world filled with so much anxiety and fear.
Pastor Dan shares from one of his favorite passages about the nearness of Christ and our call to share Christ with those around us.
Pastor Dan, using an illustration from Chariots of Fire, shares that each of us has been created, by God, with a purpose. Are you pursuing the purpose God has for your life?

Matthew 20:1-10 is a parable of Jesus about grace and the Kingdom of God. Grace and God's Kingdom is upside-down and can be infuriating- until we realize that we are recipients of that same extravagant grace.

How do we let go of the things that prevent us from going ALL IN with Jesus? This week we are looking at Genesis 22 and the person of Abraham who was able to let go of his son because he was all in that God would provide. What do you need to let go of in order to go ALL IN?
We learn about going ALL IN through the life of Noah, who had to follow God when no one around him was doing it.

1st John 2:1-11 | John gives us some clues on what it looks like to live out basic scriptural Christianity as a way for each of us to examine how we are living out our faith.
In a world of darkness, we are called to live in the light of Christ. We are called to a life of holiness.
We are made for relationship with God, yet many times we look anywhere for that need to be satisfied. This week, Pastor Neyda points us back to God and the desire we have for relationships.Â
In the Incarnation, God became one of us. Why did God go to such drastic lengths and how does that inform how disciples of Jesus should live?

We wrap our series on James by looking at how Christians should express their faith in three different circumstances.Â
James talks a lot of trials, suffering, and how believers should exhibit patience in the face of difficult times. How do we as believers cultivate patience that enables us to persevere?

James 3:1-16 | We continue our series in James by considering our words' impact when empowered by the Holy Spirit.

John 12:12-19 | The crowds on the way to Jerusalem had certain expectations for Jesus- but Jesus showed the reality of his mission as a humble, peaceful king.
When we experience silence in our prayer lives, do we believe that God is still working in the silence?
