On this episode Fridge is joined by our head of Marketing Sayre Piotrkowski, Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner, HenHouse CEO Collin McDonnel, and the Head Brewer of Urban Family Brewing Max Peterson and they’re talking all about our recent English-Style Mild Ale collab beer In Our Mildest Dreams. This OG session ale from across the pond has never tasted better to put it mildly. Urban Family was founded in Seattle in 2016, Specializing in opaque ales and delivering 21st century flavor experiences. Funny enough our paths crossed initially via a kindly worded cease & desist letter, which actually led to our first collaboration, a pina colada inspired kettle sour ale that was part of their “Vape Lord” series of fruited kettle sour beers which we featured on Unruffled before. We couldn’t be more STOKED to have made another deliciously esoteric brew and podcast with these fine Seattleites. Cheers!

Any milestone is a chance to remember the past, look to the future, and appreciate the present! This is what “Stoked On 10” is designed to do. We are releasing 10 beers that represent what we love about the craft beer world that we first discovered, what has been so rewarding about our 10 years making HenHouse a reality, and what we hope to see in the future. On this episode Fridge, Bob and Sayre are joined by current HenHouse Flight Attendant and former dive master Remy Berger to talk all about our beer, Fish Don’t Exist for the part two segment of our “In Theory” line of IPA’s! In 2006, the International Astronomical Union made headlines when they announced Pluto didn’t meet their criteria for being a planet and thus Pluto was demoted to “dwarf planet”. This is similar to the fish classification problem. The sea has such diverse and complex expressions of life that under close scrutiny (and taxonomists love to scrutinize) it’s difficult to lump all the ocean’s life into one group, using one word. Which isn't too far from the current state of the IPA... Is it a “Hazy”? Is it a “NEIPA”? Don’t stress over labels, it’s a delicious beer and that’s the only classification that matters!
STOKED! ON TEN! Y’all!! We are less than a month away from HenHouse Brewing Company’s 10th Anniversary celebration, a five-week-long extravaganza we are calling STOKED! ON TEN! Any milestone is a chance to remember the past, look to the future, and appreciate the present, and that is just what we have planned! Beginning on Friday, January 7th, Stoked On Ten will encompass the release of 10 very special beers over the course of 5 weeks. These 10 beers, along with the breweries we’ve invited to work on them, and venues where we will be holding their releases, tell the story of HenHouse’s first decade by honoring many of those who’ve played a part in it. This project features contributions from craft beer pioneers who laid the groundwork that made companies like HenHouse possible, partners who have helped us grow and improve over the past decade, and trailblazers at work today making this industry more diverse, equitable, and exciting! Stoked On Ten deepens our commitment to the values that have made this past decade so rewarding! Since 2012, it has been our mission to do three things: create meaningful employment for team members (that’s us), improve beer quality for the end consumer (that’s you), and create wealth for our community (that’s everybody!). Once, we were a few folks making a few bottles. Today we’re dozens of folks brewing thousands of gallons! To the chickens, beers, and people on this ride with us: THANK YOU! It’s just getting started!
Chomsky’s Colorless Green Ideas Sleep Furiously. On this episode Fridge, Bob & Sayre are joined by Eric Bolen from the retail team and everyone is saying words whilst drinking Language Creates Reality IPA. Does language create reality? Possibly, that’s the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis doesn’t delve into the metaphysics of how perception may create the universe but how the words we learn and the thoughts those words represent shape our thought processes. Join these chicken gang podcasters and learn how New Zealand hops and cutting-edge fermentation science create new flavor realities on tongues in the original entry of our “In Theory” IPA series. Hmm IPA sounds funny when you say it... Are beer styles just linguistic shortcuts? Listen closely, this beer has a lot to say and so does this podcast!

On this episode Fridge is joined by our Head of Marketing Sayre Piotrkowski and by HenHouse Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner to talk about monk beer from monk town. With Weekly Beer Name Generator & The Greatest Generator, we’re celebrating the doppelbock, Germany’s least lager-like lager! A dopplebock is a malt-driven classic, first brewed by Munich monks making “liquid bread” to get them through a fasting period. Our Interpretation of this rich, bready beer style is sure to get you ready for feasting! That is if the general craft beer drinking public is willing to give this old school style a chance. Rest assured these podcasters are now convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the HenHouse production team can really do no wrong. These two doppelbocks only further prove that the brewers, cellarmen, barrel blenders, lab folks and packaging crew are able to pull off any beer style we could possibly throw at them. Listen in as Fridge Bob and Sayre discuss the origins of this pair of delicious dark, malty, strong, and bold un-lager like lagers!
You know what’s actually great!?! Pilsner! On this episode Fridge is joined by the head of the HenHouse Marketing Department Sayre Piotrkowski and by Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner to discuss a pair of lovely lagers known as Star Turn Pilsner & Red Overalls Vienna Style Lager. Fridge, Sayre and Bob are asking the real questions about these "just gimme a beer" beers, like where exactly do they fit into the craft beer paradigm? Thinking about the differences behind HenHouse heritage-type marketing to our more high concept stylized label presentations and the reasons why we as a company pair these with certain beer styles and why. And then what happens when you flip that script? Expounding how the established beer-drinkers of today have come to expect a wider spectrum of flavor experiences from their local brewery locales and that's okay. You can have your old school pale lagers and your birthday cake stouts too! Prost!
On this episode Fridge is joined by a host of wonderful humans including the always awesome CEO of HenHouse Brewing Company one Collin McDonnel, the head of HenHouse Marketing & Sales our resident Advanced Cicerone Sayre Piotrkowski as well the architect of HenHouse can-side verbiage Marketing Coordinator Mr. Bob Waegner! Expect a deep dive on two of our diabolical drinkers, a conspiratorial duo of hoptimal proportions both BeBe Rebozo IPA & Billionaire Recluse DIPA. Each of these beers reference some shady money movers who were both directly linked to the Watergate break-in scandal which inevitably ended with the impeachment and resignation of former US President Richard Nixon. Listen in as we discuss the weird history and main players of Watergate as well as Nixon’s many bizarre moves and countermoves against his numerous enemies both real and imagined. All while drinking two amazing Simcoe and El Dorado hop driven beverages! This one is tricky y'all very tricky!
On this episode Fridge is joined by Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner & the Head of HenHouse Marketing & Sales Sayre Piotrkowski to drink and discuss our delicious donut-inspired digestif known as No Chocolate Frosted Mini Donuts Were Harmed in the Making of This Pastry Stout! Our first entry in our new No Harm Pastry Stout series is a high octane mouthwatering masterpiece! This heavenly yet hedonistic beverage is blurring the line between brewer and baker and is certainly worthy of an in depth discussion. Our devilish donut drinker had us asking the big questions: Like what exactly makes a Pastry Stout a Pastry Stout? Bob, Sayre & Fridge also found themselves pontificating on the similarities between Tiki Drinks and Pastry Stouts: They have a low barrier to entry and remain approachable to the inexperienced crowds, they're often sporting scary names but presenting childlike flavors; and both require a deep expertise for proper execution of the craft. Fidelity to the confection hitherto undreamt of y'all. Crumbs are pastry blood! #ProtectPastry

We also take a deep dive into how the marketing of a beer can alter your experience of the liquid. The way we see it if you're gonna put a time machine on a beer-can why not do it with an iconic style?! Nobody calls us chicken!

We also touch on the stark duality of the Oak Cult series versus our other beers like the Conspiracy IPAs, whereas the "keep it cold, check the date, drink it fresh" mantra or mentality isn't necessarily what is required when handling these bottled barrel-aged beauties. Covering everything from wild yeasts and bacteria to the values of oxidation whether that's with beers or with oreos…
On this episode we’re joined by our Bay Area Merchandiser Anureet Singh, Marketing Coordinator Bob Waegner and of course our CEO Collin McDonnell to discuss BitCollin, our new non fungible milkshake IPA! Collin was once merely a person but has now become a triune being, manifesting as human, beverage and currency! We cover a wide array of topics on this podcast; from what really makes a Milkshake IPA a Milkshake IPA anyway? To the secret clandestine origins of this beautiful beverage and how even an insane recipe such as BitCollin somehow comes out balanced when it’s passed through the HenHouse production department machine!
