J.L. Johnson Jr. is the writer and letterer of Ennead: The Rule of Nine. JL is known as (to himself at least) a "Writer of Comics, Creator of Graphic Novels. Second of his name." It's also possible he's read A Song of Ice and Fire way too many times... When he isn't writing you can find him spending time with his wife Jess, daughter Olive, Lab Mix Ruthie, and his cats Quinn and Sansa.
About the Project
Luke Horsman, is a pro's pro who's responsible The Rule of Nine's interior art and letters. Luke has nearly 20 years of experience in illustration and design. Now working solely as a comic book artist, Luke has worked on scores of titles. Ranging from independently created projects, like this one, to well known publications like 2000AD and better known titles, such as Judge Dredd. It's been an honor to work with Luke to bring this story to life.
Niki came by to talk about her experience as a trans woman, writer, and artist. The show covers a lot of ground, from her early experiences writing science fiction, to film, and comics. Niki is an incredible personality, and it really shines through in this interview.

Nikita made a smashing debut as a child, performing, as well as writing, the enchanting theatrical piece called “The Cat, the mouse and the Golden Cheese”. The audience, consisting of her parents, saw her potential, and let her move out of the house at 15, to commence her world travels.
A former resident of Kyoto, and both north, middle, and south cities of Sweden, her first book was published in 2012 (a short scifi called “Eternity, sister”), and since then she’s also managed to birth a short film into the world which premiered, to mixed and bad reviews, on the 26th of July 2018. It has since migrated to Cinema Queer México, where it was streamed during 2021’s edition of their international film festival, and then went on to be screened at QFest Houston, during the beginning of October.
Nikita herself is now dedicated to the visual arts, TV Asahi, and storytelling through sequential imagery, and is working on her next novel (a nordic horror fest) and a comic book project called “The Tiny Island”.

As a graphic production artist, he has produced magazines and books for several clients, including Main Enterprises, Glass House Graphics, Pronto Comics, Buffalo Avenue Press, and others.

He occasionally teaches college art courses in design and illustration, was the co-host of the illustration podcast Big Illustration Party Time, and currently co-hosts the Artcasters, and the 48 Hour Art Check.

I am a freelance writer from Los Angeles, California.
I was born in Mexico Michoacán. And I came to America when I was 2 going on 3. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, im the Crenshaw area. So Boyz in the Hood was a big movie for me growing up.
I received my B.A. in History from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). A also were I studied film, TV, and literature in UCLA.
I developed my love for comics in college. After I read Persepolis by Satrapi something woke up in me. My community college was right across the street from a comic shop, so it was inevitable. Reading comics and studying went hand in hand for me. I didn’t know it then, but I was studying to be a writer.
My heart lies in comics. Since 2018 I've produced multiple shorts and full-length comics with amazing creators. I have also worked with publishers such as Marvel Comics, A Wave Blue World, and Action Lab Entertainment.
In March 2020 my superhero comic book, The World's Strongest, was released by Action Lab Entertainment. The book was met with critical acclaim upon it's release. Later that year I released a short story titled, A Match. It is a beautiful sports drama that is currently free to read right here! Between us, that’s the story that opened doors for me.
In September 2021 my short story, The Recording Studio, was featured in the Dead Beats 2 horror anthology.
December 8, 2021 I will make my Marvel Comics debut in the pages of Marvel Voices: Comunidades. A beautiful anthology highlighting Latinx Marvel heroes and creators. My story is about Nina the Conjuror, the Brazilian Sorcerer Supreme of the 1950’s! She must save the world from the nature spirit Anhanga.
I have an eclectic collection of books under my name. From slice of life stories of heartbreak (Tilly) to modern-day fantasy tales (A Moment in Time), I write what I would love to read.
When I'm not writing or reading I'm spending time with my lovely 2-year-old daughter and my awesome wife—who said I would be a writer long before I even thought of it. They're both a big inspiration to me.

Alyson Shelton wrote and directed the award winning feature, Eve of Understanding. She wrote and created the comic, Reburn, which successfully funded Issues #1 and #2 on Kickstarter during 2021. She’s currently finalizing the scripts for Issue #3 and #4, that will finish the first arc. Her original screenplay, The Night We Met, was selected for the 2nd round of the 2021 Sundance Creative Producing Lab. I am Non Binary
I am just your average self-taught artist who is overworked and underpaid, I live In the sunshine state of Florida in the middle of nowhere. I work part-time at the local restaurant during the week and draw comics on my day off or whenever I can get some free time to put it more clearly. in essence, I am an unknown web cartoonist with weird and sometimes interesting ideas. ( sometimes my very best and sometimes my very worse either way I am doing what I love and no one can take it away from me ) and I enjoy every minute of it.
My interests are listening to vintage and out of date 80s/90s music and new wave underground electronic (namely the crystal castles to name a few ) and the stylish tunes of Amy Winehouse ( her old stuff before rehab and after, writing and illustrating my bizarre webcomic and just making art. I want to get published but right now I do not feel like I am quite ready yet to publish anything professionally yet so this (blog/webcomic) is sort of a testing ground for me to test my growing skill (a testing ground for my comics work ).

Bringing humor to her art and storytelling, Jay has a fresh, expressive art style that shines in her personal work.
She has worked professionally as a flash artist for various social gaming studios, as well as a development artist for companies such as Disney and Warner Bros. Project Description
In The Pale, an FBI agent teams up with a Navajo Police Officer, a Sheriff and his deputy as they investigate a mysterious body found in the Arizona desert. Often compared to Twin Peaks and Fargo, it’s a supernatural mystery with heart. In Chapter 6, our crew gets a taste of just how sinister this killer can be.

Jin Wicked is a 41 year-old, agender/non-binary visual and performance artist, illustrator, podcaster, and writer on the autism spectrum who works with the guiding philosophy that, "Life is art." Jin is most well-known for introspective blogging, multiple slice-of-life webcomic series, meticulous ink illustrations, and their "Happy Happy Rat" mascots. Jin Wicked's autobiographical work explores the complexity of identity and self-image, and fearlessly bridges the gap between colourful humour and difficult subject matter such as anxiety, depression, love, mental illness, and neurodiversity.
In addition to comics, Jin produces studio art, skit comedy and creative videos, podcasts and readings, photography, essays, poetry, beaded jewelry, floral design, other crafts, and one-of-a-kind desserts. Glenn Head was born in 1958 in Morristown, New Jersey, and began drawing comics when he was fourteen. His work has appeared in many places—from The Wall Street Journal to Screw. Others include The New York Times, Playboy, New Republic, Sports Illustrated, Advertising Age, Interview and Entertainment Weekly.
Glenn’s fine art has been exhibited in New York and across the country: Exit Art’s traveling cartoon art show, “Comic Power”; “Art and Provocation: Images from Rebels” at the Boulder Museum of Fine Art; and “The New York Press Illustrator Show” at CBGB’s Gallery. Head’s editorial cartooning appeared in the Inx show at Hofstra University.
In the early ‘90s, Glenn co-created (with cartoonist Kaz) and edited Snake Eyes, the Harvey Award-nominated cutting-edge comix anthology series. His solo books include Avenue D and Guttersnipe – an underground urban comix that capture the intense, gritty underbelly of street life. Head was a frequent contributor to the Fantagraphics’ comix anthology quarterly Zero Zero. The Simon & Schuster’s comic book anthology Mind Riot featured Glenn’s work – a collection of personal stories depicting teenage angst. His project, Head Shots, a sketchbook of cartoon art, followed.
From 2005 to 2010 Glenn edited and contributed to the Harvey and Eisner-nominated anthology HOTWIRE Comics (three issues). Over the past six years, Glenn created his graphic epic, Chicago. This coming-of-age memoir centers around a starry-eyed 19-year-old with dreams of underground comics glory as he encounters his heroes who faces homelessness, despair, insanity... and somehow survive.
The Project:
This May, Fantagraphics will publish CHARTWELL MANOR, cartoonist Glenn Head’s harrowing graphic memoir that details his two years at the now-defunct Mendham, NJ, boarding school run by a serial sexual and physical abuser of young boys.
“As a young child very little of the world made sense to me,” said Head. “Finding myself in Chartwell in the early ‘70s was like entering a real-world horror comic—depraved, criminal, and corrupting to so many who attended it. No one walked away unsullied.”

Project Summary
In 1998, three estranged sisters trained by their Nazi-hunting mother come together to solve their mom's murder…and try not to kill each other in the process. Mark Bernal grew up near Oakland, CA, and spent the last 17 years serving in the Department of Defense. During 2020, he began working with various illustrators to create the first pages of Lesser Known Comics. Since then, Lesser Known Comics has grown to a fourteen-person company with writers and artists in New York, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin, California, and Washington (as well as artists in Argentina and Spain).
The company’s mission goal is to not only make great comics, but also change the industry standards for how comic book artists are treated. I am a cosplayer and artist who has been creating and designing since I could hold a Crayola marker- bringing characters to life has always been something I've found joy in. When I lept into cosplay with Season 1 Daenerys in 2019, something stirred, and the creativity that I had left untouched for a solid 4 years burst forward-I haven't looked back since.
My love for DC Comics was fostered in high school and has only deepened from there, which I'm sure is clear by my many DC cosplays. Whether it's a purchased cosplay or an armor build that's taken me months, they're all close to my heart. When I tell the stories of characters I love, through cosplay, through design, and more, I also tell a little bit of my own story- it's been both freeing and empowering!

Dave Dellecese is a writer and author of comics, children's books, graphic novels, and more.
He is the co-creator and writer of the middle schooler turned superhero graphic novel, Lacey & Lily from Darby Pop Publishing.
His comic credits also include co-creating, writing (and occasionally doodling) the comic series Holidaze, the adult comedy series about the after-hours lives of mythical icons when they're off the clock and hanging at their favorite watering hole. Dave has also contributed to the pages of Ink Puddle Press' comedy series The Devil and Mr Gandhi.
Outside of comics, his most recent work is Frank the Barber, a historical fiction tale set on Christmas Eve, 1943 in the city of Utica, New York.
A father of three, Dave is the author of the children’s picture book The Little Lamp about a small table lamp dealing with change and the re-discovery of purpose after being tossed to the curb with the trash.

A former journalist and news anchor, he has written for newspapers and broadcast, contributed to What to Expect, the companion website to the best-selling parenthood series What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and appeared on The Weather Channel and The Today Show.
Dave also lends his voice to The Brass Lantern old time radio adventure podcast, playing former reporter-turned private investigator, Wam Dixon.
When it comes to the world of four-color comic adventures, his influences sway toward the Silver Age and Golden Age of comics. His master’s thesis was on the use of comic books as a form of American propaganda during World War II, and has given several lectures on the subject.
Daniel comes in to talk about his book American Dreams with Eva. They go over the story, and talk about comics production, team and project management, and life in New York City.
Bio: Daniel Kalban is the creator/writer of American Dreams. Proudly raised in Brooklyn, he is a graduate of Daemen College (Amherst, NY). He credits his love of comics, especially heroes, to his father’s old collection of Silver Age comics. When not working as an office assistant for a major metropolitan law firm, you can usually find him working hard on American Dreams and other projects. He also writes occasional articles for Word of the Nerd. When not working, he enjoys playing video games, going to museums, or attending the theater (when things are normal). He credits American Dreams’ creation to his love of superheroes, and history. Daniel currently lives in New York CIty, where you can usually see him running around, possibly grumbling about how badly the Mets are doing.

Karla developed a comic book series based on her pilot script “Duplicate." She's run three successful Kickstarters for the first four issues of the series and recently signed with Second Sight Publishing.
Currently, Karla is pitching the animated supernatural suspense series, "Nabarang," which was created with Filipino-American animator and paranormal expert Sapphire Sandalo.

Abigail Jill Harding is a Comic-book Artist and Illustrator based in York, UK. Co-creator and Artist of Comixology Originals’ ‘ASK FOR MERCY’.
Tea addict and supreme hoarder of books. Drawing monsters and fantastical creatures started from a young age. Spending much of her time going through the dinosaur encyclopedias and drawing from them.
Working in both digital and traditional art styles, Abigail uses and experiments with a wide range of mediums including Ink, Watercolours, gouache, Acrylics and Photoshop.
Abigail's core style and narrative are inspired by the horror and macabre, transformation, symbolism, folklore and mythology.
Her artist influences and inspirations include Dali, Yoshitaka Amano, Gustav Klimt, Toppi, Mike Mignola and H.R Giger.
Her work has been in publications such as Imagine FX, 3Dtotal Publishing and Printed In Blood. Abigail has also worked with comic publishers including Image, IDW, TITAN comics.
Abigail's first comic book series 'Ask For Mercy' first released in 2018. Teaming up with writer Richard Starkings in co-creating the Horror Fantasy comic under the Comixology Originals line. She had previously worked with Starkings as a guest artist for his Sci-Fi series ELEPHANTMEN.

The Project:
COUNT follows the adventures of one Redxan Samud.

Erik Larsen sits down with Eva to talk about producing comics, art, and storytelling. It's a really solid show.
Bio: Erik Larsen was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a child growing up in Bellingham, Washington and Albion, California, Erik Larsen created numerous comic books featuring versions of a character named ‘Dragon’. At the age of 19, Erik self-published a fanzine called Graphic Fantasy, which featured his character the Dragon and it led to his doing professional work on a comic book called Megaton.
After showing his work, Erik became acquainted with Jim Shooter, Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief. Jim was impressed enough with his work that he consented to co-plot a story with him at the convention. That story was a battle between the Hulk and Thor. It wasn’t actually published until years later, but it did impress the Editors enough to get Larsen some high-profile work in the funnybook field.
When artist Todd McFarlane left his artistic duties on The Amazing Spider-Man, Larsen was chosen to be his successor. That run was well-received, and included popular stories like “The Return of the Sinister Six”, “The Cosmic Spider-Man”, and “The Powerless Spider-Man”.
In 1992, Larsen co-founded ‘Image’ at Malibu comics, alongside creators Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, and Jim Valentino. Image split off from Malibu and 1993 and has established itself as the third-largest comic book publisher in the United States.
Erik’s flagship comic book at Image was an updated version of his childhood creation – “The Savage Dragon”. Larsen has been succeeding with his ideas ever since. He was Publisher of Image Comics from 2004-2008.
In 2012 Erik wrote and drew a short run on Rob Liefeld’s Supreme, initially penciling Alan Moore’s final Supreme story. That same year he bought the rights to the character ‘Ant’ from creator Mario Gully. Ant was a book that was at one point published at Image Comics and Erik always thought that the character and its iconic design had potential.
2017 saw the release of Savage Dragon #225 celebrating 25 years of the Dragon and Image Comics in an epic 100 pages extravaganza.

Lucy Sullivan is an Artist, Author & Animator based in London, UK. Since gaining a Degree in Illustration/Animation she has co-directed and animated music videos created pre-visuals & storyboards for Film & TV and taught Observational Drawing at a number of Universities.
In 2017 Lucy followed a life-long ambition and moved into comics. Her works include collaborations as the artist on IND-XED with Fraser Campbell, Black Cat for Skrawl #1 with John Reppion, Wishmaker's Gimcrack with Ram V & Aditya Bidikar and Sweeney Todd & I for Razorblades issue 3 with Dan Watters & Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. She has created commissions for Black Hammer, Hey, Amateur!, Killtopia #3, Insider Art, Colossive Cartographies, Hell in Stalingrad, Hey! Don't Go, Murky Waters and Tales from The Quarantine (with Fraser Campbell).
Her debut graphic novel BARKING, based on her own experience of a mental health crisis was published in March 2020 by Unbound, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and co-commissioned by The Lakes International Comic Arts Festival. Since publication BARKING has garnered awards, praise from reviewers and is on the required reading list for UCLA's Art & Trauma Collegiate Program.
Alongside comics, Lucy teaches Illustration and Animation at degree level and mentors aspiring graphic novelists through LDComics (UK). Her next comic, SHELTER launches later this year.

Eva talks to comic book creator and editor Tom Peyer of Ahoy Comics. Pretty good for someone who’s still remarkably in their 20’s.
Bio: This slope-shouldered industry veteran was a long-running writer on DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes, a founding editor at their Vertigo imprint, and the proud writer of their worst-selling, award-losing series Hourman.
He has since written enough major characters to fill one of those hyper-populated super-hero posters where you don’t know who to look at first.

Eva talks to legendary comic book letterer John Roshell. John has worked with DC and Marvel on comics in the past and was involved in defining the modern process for lettering in comics. John talks about how he got into lettering and the kind of tools he's used over the years, including some discussion on Quark Express, Fontographer, Glyphs and Adobe products such as Illustrator. There's some talk of great letters and techniques -- and we learn what drives him creatively.
Bio: John Roshell has lettered comic books for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse & Blizzard, designed the logos for Avengers, Daredevil, Black Panther & Angry Birds, and created hundreds of font families which have been used to letter millions of comic book pages, as well as appeared in video games, movies and TV shows, toy packages, t-shirts and even toilet paper.
He is the co-author of "Comic Book Lettering the Comicraft Way" with Comicraft co-founder Richard Starkings, and last year founded Swell Type to manage the ever-expanding Comicraft font library and release fun, friendly, functional fonts inspired by his home state of California.
