As a nature photographer specializing in flower photography, Anne’s passion lies in capturing the beauty of flowers and other botanical subjects up-close. It is her belief that if we slow down and look at nature in a more contemplative way, we will find subjects that convey impact and emotion, causing the eye to linger a little longer. A life-long involvement in the arts and a first career as an art therapist have shaped the way that she views art and the creative process and have reinforced her belief in the healing power of both art and nature in our lives.

Rick interviews accomplished photographer/camera tech expert Brian Worley, who sets the bar for knowing what a camera, lens and speedlite can do!
Join Rick as he chats with Brian, based in Oxfordshire in South East England, as these two pros explore the importance of knowing camera and speedlite settings, and how they can help you get a higher percentage of keepers, as well as fewer outtakes. In a nutshell, Brian suggests using the right settings to get it right in camera.

Sure, you need to bring a camera and lens when you're going shooting, but what else should you always carry with you? Are there any little things that are easy to toss into your camera bag so you have them when you're out shooting?
Yep! That's what today's 5 Quick Tips episode is all about.
Ian talks about “The Last Supper” (as in the painting) and how it relates to creative composition.
Rick and Ian also talk about the importance of seeing shapes in landscape photography, and Ian introduces our listeners to Shuttermonkeys, a site dedicated to photography education and inspiration. See the link at the end of this post.
Ian is one of the most humble photographers who have been on the show. Take a listen and share his enthusiasm for his photography – which is contagious!

So many shooters just put their strobe on the hotshot and then hope that it will lead to better lighting for their images. It can, but if you know a handful of techniques for Speedlite (Speedlight) use, you can get much better results.

Rick and Scott share many of the same photo philosophies, one of which is that established photographers have a responsibiltiy to motivate and encourage younger photographers. So the main theme of this week’s show is how to get motivated - with your photography and with making your own ink-jet prints.
Scott and Rick also talk a bit about the history of photography: using a hand-held light meter, making prints in a wet darkroom and even some challenges with early printing.

When you think about street shooting, you automatically think about some cool, candid shots you've seen over the years. And if you're not familiar with the insider tips and tricks for how to grab these images, you might find yourself getting bad shots… or worse… having a person get mad at you when you take their picture.
Today's show is a fast collection of insider tips from Rick & Larry PLUS tricks for capturing great street shots and avoiding problems.
In this episode, Larry talks with Rick about his latest (and 49th) book, which is filled with all of the above.
As Rick says in the interview, his book has no photographs, yet he feels as though it is his most important and informative work, because he trusts it will make you think—deep and hard—about your photography. After all, using your brain is the key, the best “accessory,” to becoming a better photographer. Or, as famed black-and-white landscape photographer Ansel Adams (1902–1984) said, “The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it.”
If you are feeling a bit down about your photography, or just need a creative boost, check out Rick’s book. You can download a free sample on Amazon.com, where the e-book and paperback are sold exclusively.

As a photographer-based company, RRS understands the needs of pros and amateur photographers alike, developing products – for top of the line cameras to smartphones – that have gained the Utah-based company one of the best reputations in the photo industry.

Long time listeners know that Rick likes to skip around – from topic to topic – during his interviews. This show is no different. Rick and Skip, president of Skip Cohen University, skip around to about a dozen different topics, mostly relating to the business of photography. It’s all in good fun and as usual, very educational.
Rick starts off telling Skip to “mind your own business,” which Skip actually thinks is good advice. Rick and Skip also talk about not believing your own BS and that people want to know how much you care before they care how much you know.

It's still a quick tips episode with fast knowledge bombs, but this time it features Macro Photography expert Don Komarechka.
Called "Birdland" in Australia and "Bird Love" in the USA/UK, Leila’s new book pictures, in extremely fine detail, dozens of birds– without the distraction of their natural environments. Leila’s feathered friends, you see, were all photographed in the studio. In this episode you’ll learn about Leila’s technique and about her gear, as well as her (and Rick’s) passion for protecting the environment.

Lately we've been releasing interview shows and longer topic shows on Mondays and we've started releasing tips and tricks style shows called Five Quick Tips on Thursdays. This time around we cover best practices with neutral density filters.
Photography was a long dormant hobby for Alec but over the past 2 plus years he has rekindled his passion and is developing into a fine photographer with a passion for, old cars, neon and landscapes.
Rick and Alec talk about his growth as a photographer and with homage to Stephen Covey the habits that Alec has developed to maximize his participation in workshops and local meet-up groups. Applying these principles have enabled Alec to learn and grow as a photographer. He has learned that being prepared, mindful and sharing his images with others have enabled him to maximize his experience and grow in confidence.
Alec credits Rick with curing his OCD – Obsessive Clicking Disorder through the One Picture Promise though he is slowly developing a case of Obsessive Cropping Disorder. One other thing about Alec ,as Rick has mentioned in the past, he is very familiar with all of our sponsors and for that we thank him with apologies to his very supportive wife Diane!

So far this is the QUICKEST Quick Tips episode and that's the goal. Good info about photography without any extra fluff. Sure, we love our interview and deep dive topics, but Five Quick Tips are just QUICK!!
Rick sat down with our mutual friend, Jeff Leimbach, and talked about his new class on KelbyOne called "What to Shoot When There is Nothing to Shoot." A class that is a bit different than most because it’s not about how to shoot but what to shoot. We discussed self assignments and how they can help you see things you wouldn’t have ordinarily seen. The class also talks about places, times and objects to shoot.
They also discussed workshops and some of the things to look for in choosing a workshop or instructor as well as how to act on one so that you get the most out of the experience.
Thanks to Sergio Burani, this time the Five Quick Tips episode is about understanding focus modes and how to leverage focus functions to get the most out of your camera.

Gear advice and quick, helpful insights are what the shorter Five Quick Tips episodes are all about. This time we talk tripods.
Rick met Lauren when she was working an office job in NYC in the marketing department of a reputable photography company. 5 years later, she's living in Los Angeles working as a freelance photographer with no intentions on going back to the 95 life.
Lauren and Rick discuss the creativity involved in Lauren's work, and the delicate, sometimes headacheinducing balance between creative and (mundane) paid work that's vital if you're a freelance photographer. They talk about capturing emotion vs getting the perfect technical shot, and
the difference between tasteful nude photography and...notsotasteful. They also chat about Lauren's side projects— including music, her production studio along side art director Claire Quest called Nightdove Studio, and Supervirgo— LA's community for female creatives.

Keeping lenses and filters clean is different than cleaning other kinds of glass, and there are things you might have never considered. Like the electronic contacts. When to clean the lenses. What to use. And some times you might want to try to make your lens dirty.
Rick and Larry break all that down in this Quick episode.
André Audet is an emerging photographer living on Canada’s East Coast, shooting in various styles, with a passion for landscape and wildlife photography. He teaches photography classes and leads workshops in English and in French in his local area.

They also brush on social media and the importance of listening to the feedback received from social media followers, as well as how shooting in one particular photographic style can help you improve your skills in other genres.

Joe offers his best tips and Rick offers his best advice so in effect, this is a “Battle of the Landscape Photography Tips.” Rick’s best advice is, of course: It Depends.” Joe's best advice is to forget about shooting EXCLUSIVELY at the “golden hours.” Rather, shoot throughout the day to get great shots.
