The Live FAB Life Podcast is a show that examines all the ways that stress shows up in our lives and explores how to deal with it using Functional Wellness and Human Design so that we can optimize our health, find balance, upgrade our energy, and fall into a life of freedom, good health, and empowerment.
With 20+ years in the tech industry, I’ve seen it all; the crazy hours, super demanding lifestyles, and constant drive that pushes women into burnout and chronic illness.
Take a few minutes to practice some self-care by tuning in to this week’s episode with Naomi Nakamura, a Functional Wellness and Human Design Coach based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The new year is treated like a reset button — as if your body, energy, and history are supposed to magically start over overnight.
But your energy doesn't reset on January 1.
In this episode, I talk about why there is no "right" way to begin, why every phase of your wellness journey counts, and why pressure to do things perfectly often disconnects you from yourself.
We'll talk about New Year's goals and fresh starts — without shaming any of them — and then zoom out to the real skill that actually changes everything: learning how to make the right decision for you, at the right time, in a way your body can support.
If January brings pressure, guilt, or the sense that you're already behind, this episode is here to take that weight off.

This year, I didn't hustle. I returned.
I returned to how my energy actually works. I returned to how my mind processes. I returned to timing instead of pressure. And I returned to showing up in ways that don't cost me my health.
In this episode, I share what I finally had to face: I was still running operating in a Generator way — weekly output, constant visibility, and treating consistency as proof of worth.
I break down my Human Design — my Incarnation Cross, active gates, and my only channel — and explain why that approach doesn't work for me. My role isn't endless production. It's discernment, synthesis, and speaking at the right moment.
I also share what this means for the podcast and how I'll be showing up moving forward.
If you've been forcing yourself into structures that drain you and wondering why it feels so hard, this episode will help you understand what patterns to notice.

In this episode, we're talking about inconsistency and why certain routines never stick, why "discipline" isn't the issue, and how your Human Design shows the natural rhythms your body prefers.
If you've ever tried to force yourself into someone else's routine, wondered why it only worked for a week, then berated yourself for "not sticking with it", this episode will help you understand why — and what to build instead.

We're taught to make decisions from our mind — research, logic, pros vs cons lists — and then wonder why everything feels harder than it should.
But the truth is: your body gives you information long before your mind starts analyzing anything.
In this episode, we're breaking down the early signals your body sends — the physical cues, energetic shifts, and subtle patterns – the ones that are usually overlooked — and how Human Design gives language and structure to those early signals so you can stop pushing through them, stop misreading them, and stop treating them like flaws.
You'll learn how your body responds before your thoughts do, why you're so used to overriding those responses, and how noticing them can make decisions easier and reduce stress.
If you've ever pushed past your limits, said yes when you knew you shouldn't, or talked yourself out of what you felt immediately — this episode will help you understand why.

In this birthday episode, we get personal and talk about the parts of ourselves we've been taught to tone down, cover up, or feel ashamed of — the quirks, patterns, and preferences we thought made us "too much," "too sensitive," or just… weird.
And how Human Design gives us a language — and a framework — to see these parts not as flaws, but as guidance.
We discuss:

You know how the saying goes, "trust your intuition"? It sounds great — until you're staring at your meal plan, second-guessing your symptoms, and wondering why you still don't feel like yourself.
This episode is about self-leadership — and how Human Design gives you a practical path back to trusting your judgment, body, and energy again.
We'll unpack what self-leadership really means, the subtle ways we learn to override it (even with "good" advice), and how each of the seven Human Design Authorities offers a tangible, practical approach to building that trust again — one decision at a time.
This isn't about ignoring input or never asking for support. It's about becoming the kind of person who knows how to hear themselves — and lead themselves — even in the noise.

In this episode, we unpack the gap between what your lab tests say and what your body feels — and why both are valid.
As someone who deeply values functional lab data, I'm not here to dismiss it. In fact, I still regularly test through my own care team. But lab work is just one piece of the puzzle. Functional data is powerful — but it's a snapshot, not a full story.
What happens between tests? What happens when symptoms don't align with results?
It isn't about replacing one system with another — it's a yes, and. It offers context. Insight. A filter.
We explore how your energy, rhythms, and lived experience can help you contextualize the data, not override it. So you can use data without gaslighting your own experience — and start making decisions that reflect how you actually feel in your body.

What happens when a former school teacher swaps lesson plans for sheet pans — and merges these two areas of expertise together? You get Chef Laura Scheck of Teaching Table — a culinary educator with a knack for demystifying scratch cooking using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
As someone who’s deeply into health and wellness but couldn’t cook to save my life… let me tell you, this convo is personal. I took my first class with Chef Laura last fall, and when I pulled a golden loaf bread out of my oven, I thought: Wait. I made this? Back in Episode 275, Alisa cracked open my natal chart and started connecting the dots between my energy, my aesthetic, and my style misfires. You know the ones —

One of the things I’m frequently asked about is parenting with Human Design. The Human Design part I can share about, but the parenting part - not so much.
So, in this episode, I invited Maggie Hilpisch, a colleague who applies Human Design in parenting her three children.
Maggie fell in love with and has been feverishly studying Human Design since 2020 (we were in the same Human Design certification program together!). She works with individuals, couples, and small groups, as well as brings Human Design into the workplace, where Human Design is a key part of her role at her 9-5 job!
Human Design is the primary lens that she views the world through and it's transformed how she shows up for herself and others. Maggie is a 2/4 Splenic Projector, her husband is a 3 /5 Sacral Generator, and she has three boys - a 3 /5 Manifesting Generator and a set of 4 / 6 Generator identify twins (with identical Human Designs!).

With February being the new January, it’s still that time of year to think about goals and resolutions.
I used to get so caught up in the debate of goals vs. resolutions vs. intentions. These days I’ve come to realize that they were rooted in the “shoulds” - what I “thought” I should be doing, aka what society expects and everyone else was doing (which, if you really think about it, is just all of us enabling each other when it's very possible none of us wants to be doing “those things” at all).
In this episode, I throw out questions to ask yourself when setting goals in an exercise of self-observation with judgment to peel back the layers and see if it's something you truly want for yourself - and why.
I also share a few of my goals for the new year (which I think are very doable!).
Because what it comes down to is how well we know ourselves, how much we're willing to accept ourselves and understand how we're influenced. And Human Design illuminates these things for us in a very deep and aligned way.

In this episode, I share with you what my Environment is from my own Human Design, and share with you reflections on the physical locations I’ve lived in throughout my life and the influences it had on my ability and inability to grow and thrive.

In Human Design, Reflectors are a rarity. In fact, its believed that Reflectors make up only one percent of the population. Besides their rarity, what makes them so special is the openness of their Human Design, having no defined centers in their charts. This makes Reflectors incredibly vulnerable, flexible, and a mirror of who and what surrounds them.
We’re continuing our series of exploring each authority by hearing from individuals who each represent one of the seven different authorities.

Did you know that there’s an element in Human Design connected to digestion?
As a Functional Nutrition Health Coach that specializes in digestive and gut health, when I heard this, I was so intrigued that I just had to learn more.
Just as Functional Nutrition recalibrated my thinking to going beyond the surface to look at what’s at the root of everything, I quickly realized that this is what Human Design has come to do for me as well. It’s a deeper way to look after my well-being beyond what’s just on my plate.
And the Human Design Variables is yet another layer of how Human Design sheds light on our health in literal and energetic ways.

For the past four years, this show has explored all the ways that we experience stress, fatigue, and burnout, focusing on addressing it through Functional Nutrition and what we put on our plates, gut health, Environmental inputs, and lifestyle factors.
Over the past couple of months, through solo shows and guest interviews, I’ve primed you with the notions that peeling back the layers, and taking a functional approach into why these things happen, goes beyond what's on our plates and into what’s also going on with our minds, thoughts, emotions in addition to our physical bodies.

Human Design embraces your uniqueness, showing why general, blanket statement advice may not work for you. It's not that there’s anything wrong with you, rather, there’s a more effective way that comes more naturally to you, which begs the question, “How well do we know ourselves? What parts of us are inherent to us? What parts have we been conditioned to be?”
The onus is on each of us to observe, explore, and uncover the answers to those questions, and what emerges is a deep sense of self-awareness that develops into an intimate knowledge of who you really are, and what you need to thrive - not just what you might have been conditioned to believe.
In the solo episode, I explore the intersection between bio-individuality, the idea that no one diet works for everyone, and Human Design, a framework that sheds like on our subtle, innate gifts.

In my health journey over the years, I’ve come to learn that the human body is so much more than what manifests physically.
The body has a cohesive flow that when there is disruption, can cause so much more damage to us than we realize.
In this episode, I share how 2020 was a year of self-discovery for me, especially as I learned about and leaned into my Human Design. You’ll hear me discuss:

I'm taking my own advice to avoid burnout and taking a few weeks off! New episodes will return on Tuesday, December 29, 2020!
With the Thanksgiving holiday right on the horizon, it’s a good time to take a moment to really reflect on everything that’s been happening in our lives.
Ultimately, we all wish to be better people, and we each have our own interpretation of what that looks like and our own journey in how to get there.
In this episode, I share how community and meditation have profoundly shaped what that path has looked like for me this year, particularly in the exploration of how to practice non-judgment (spoiler alert: it’s super hard), finding courage in forgiveness, and acceptance, and healing through vulnerability.

After I first started on my journey to better health, I hit a plateau when I felt I wasn’t progressing as timely as expected.
When I consulted my doctor about it, I learned that sometimes the devil is in the details-- and I might not have been making the best decisions in the products I was using daily.
My doctor asked me, “What about toxins in your home? What’s in your tap water? Your everyday things?” and that’s what got me on this journey to discover the better, safer alternatives to my everyday products.
From makeup and personal care products to the Teflon pans and cookware we use. Though we may not be exposed to large quantities at a time, using these things daily exposes us to harmful chemicals that add to our toxic load, so much so that we can eventually feel its effects on our health.

As a health coach, I’ve had my fair share of challenges in my health.
Back in 2004, I first ventured into (what I perceived to be) healthy eating and was dogmatic in counting every calorie that came my way. Years later I struggled with a variety of digestive conditions and poor gut health.
Along the way I’ve experimented with a variety of nutritional therapies and have come to learn that not all of them have the same effect, nor are they suited for the long-term, and, depending on one’s approach, can end up doing more harm than good.
In this episode, I share how I’ve adapted to the shifting nutritional needs that my body has required through different phases of my life.

This pandemic has had me asking myself many times over, ”How can I look at this situation differently?” What is normal now is uncertainty. This is one of the big battles that we’re facing at this time. We’re uncertain of what will happen to our jobs, our businesses, our families, and basically our entire lives. And all this uncertainty is causing us stress.
But what if we "think differently?" What could happen if we let go of all the mental, emotional and physical burdens that stress brings? Easier said than done, I know, but how about, instead of accepting stress as a part of the new normal, let’s take a different approach and learn ways to reframe it in a positive way.
In this episode, I share my personal experiences with stress in the first few months of the quarantine and how I’ve dealt with it.

It’s easy to think that we’re pretty healthy when we take supplements. This is true to some extent, but taking supplements is only one part of living a healthy life, and at times, can be overprescribed.
In this episode, I highlight supplementation and share my journey of how I started taking them back in 2013 when I began my self-healing journey to improve my overall health. I share how supplements helped me achieve optimal health over the years together, along with eating a well-nourished diet, practicing healthy lifestyle habits, and taking an integrative approach with prescriptions from medical and wellness experts.

In this episode, I share how to get your internal self into a good place through self-awareness and mindset shifts.
Oftentimes, we focus on different factors that hinder us from being successful in whatever it is we want to do when all along we’re standing in our own way.
There is no greater way of taking care of your health and your well-being than by shifting your mindset through self-awareness so you’re able to release the stress that’s been burdening you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This is what allows ourselves to truly feel and thrive as happy healthy people.

If you’re someone like me who used to check the newspaper to read their daily horoscope readings, then you’re going to enjoy this episode!
Since learning about Human Design, I’ve been curious about the systems it’s based upon, astrology is one of them.
So a few months ago, I had a natal (birth) chart reading and it validated things that I innately knew about myself, that I had never shared with anyone else. And, it also enlightened me to see astrology in a new perspective.
Joining me in this episode is Julien Elizabeth (I had my natal chart reading with her). Julian is a teacher, astrologer, and writer, who’s inspired by the cycles of life, the natural world, the universe, and spirit.
As an astrologer, teacher, and yoga practitioner, her work focuses on strengthening our connection to the intuitive world. She’s motivated to create more pathways and tools for self-healing.
You’ll hear Julien and I discuss consciousness, how astrology can be used as a tool for health, and simple wisdom and aspirations to live an authentic life that reveres gratitude, compassion, and honesty!

These are trying times right now, and over the past few months, I’ve been asked times for tips on how to best deal with anxiety.
Anxiety can be paralyzing and if not managed well, becomes uncontrollable. It induces nervous energy that drains us mentally, physically, and emotionally.
I originally had another topic planned for this week’s episode, but after dealing with my own anxiety over the past couple of weeks, I put the question out to my Instagram community asking how they deal with nervousness and anxiety, especially when its work-related.
So in this episode, I share how I managed anxiety and how you can manage your bouts of anxiety too.

We often look for external resources to help us manage our health, mindset, stress, and really, discover “who are.” But much of what we are in search of is already innate within us, just waiting to be discovered. Human Design is a system that can help us uncover these gifts that we already possess.
In this episode, I’m joined by leadership coach and Human Design expert Erin Claire Jones for a conversation on how Human Design can be used as a tool in how we approach our work and health, and how we manage our productivity and mindset.

I’m pausing new episodes for the month of June to continue watching, reading, listening, and learning about anti-racism.
My personal interest lies in learning how racism impacts our food, health, and wellness, and then what I can do to fight it.
I’ll see you back here on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
What do you do when you’ve tried all of the conventional and holistic strategies but yet your health issues haven’t completely been resolved? Sometimes it deep inner work is required, especially if you’re struggling with Adrenal Fatigue and burnout. But if you’re someone who just can’t slow down, what’s the likelihood of you taking the time to explore this inner work?
One positive thing that quarantine life has given me is the gift of time to do this inner work that I may have never done otherwise.
Some of that inner work has been done with the help of my dear friend, and returning guest Sadie Adams. Sadie first joined me in Episode 117 where we talked about nurturing natural beauty through calm presence & authentic self-expression.
In this episode, Sadie returns to share her insights and wisdom on how she’s helping me. While its hard to put a name to her work (as you’ll hear us chat about), Sadie draws from her vast education, wisdom, and many gifts to help people self-heal through repatterning, embodiment, and integrating the body, mind, and spirit. Using modalities like breathwork, meditation, and movement, she helps people come back into their bodies by reclaiming their presence, choices, and freedom.
You’ll hear us discuss how she’s helping me:
Her work is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. If you’ve made diet and lifestyle changes but your issues still haven’t fully resolved, then I invite you to listen to this episode and explore the deep kind of inner work that Sadie offers to help you along your healing journey.

I believe that a significant part of being healthy is feeling at-ease, free of tension, and living in alignment with who we are. Human Design is a powerful tool that can help us reconnect with our true selves.
Joining me to introduce the concept of Human Design is Victoria Jane.
Victoria is a Human Design Reader and Coach. Her mission is to guide growth-oriented folks to use Human Design to live vibrantly - with less hustle and more flow. After a decade in Silicon Valley achieving everything she thought she was “supposed to” - a coveted career, great salary, and all the free snacks, she was forced to face the harsh reality that she was also exhausted, burnt out, and in danger of doing irreparable damage to her health.
As she searched for how to heal not just her body, but also her spirit, she discovered Human Design. Learning her unique design changed her life. It helped her reconnect back into living in alignment with her energy and intuition, giving her permission to let go of the “shoulds” and start living for herself.
In this episode you’ll hear us discuss:
