Marshall Harris, artist extraordinaire, joins Fortitude for a big/little culture lesson. Harris, a former TCU football Hall of Famer turned NFL'er, discovered early on that he had a unique talent for creating art. His creativity bore the legendary Flying TCU logo and we hear the story behind it. His incredible photo-realistic graphite drawings have drawn the attention of collectors worldwide and have garnered him awards o'plenty. He earned accolades for his realistic saddle drawings, but Harris is much broader in scope. Harris details his recent artist residency/mentor project in Paris, France, which changed his life. Who's Watching The Judges? FW Weekly staff writer, Eddie Brown joins Fortitude to detail his lengthy investigation into judicial misconduct involving several of Tarrant County's top judges. Have more than 200 people been convicted of crimes and incarcerated by an ineligible judge? In this interview, Brown names names and outlines an alarming trend in the Tarrant County judicial system of utilizing retired judges or "personal friends" to preside over cases in which they are legally not qualified to do. The implications are tremendous and begs the question, Who is Watching the Judges? Your tax dollars have a right to know.
Jonathan Mak joins Fortitude, The Cliburn Series, Episode 3. At the age of 3, Jonathan wasn't like other kids. His orchestral debut the following year launching a life at the piano. A Toronto native, Mak, an avid chamber musician, has studied at CIM and Yale under some of their legendary teachers. He is headed to Rice University to begin his doctoral studies. Mak's talent has won him multiple gold medals on the international stage, soloed with several notable orchestras, and given recitals across the world. Mak details his time at the 2022 Cliburn International Piano Competition, his experience in Fort Worth, and music in general. We also look into his first round performance at the Cliburn. Arseniy Gusev, The Cliburn Series, composer/pianist tickles the Fortitude ivories. Arseniy, 26, comes to us from St. Petersburg, Russia, but has been living in Cleveland for the last 4 years attending the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM). He was one of 30 worldwide competitors chosen to compete in the 2022 Cliburn International Piano Competition. Music found him at an early age and he has since dedicated his life to it. The uber talented pianist and composer shares his life, his talent, his Cliburn experience, his future, and his prospective on the Ukrainian situation. His performances and composition span the globe and he will surely be force to recon with in the classical music world. Additionally, he exhibits his talent on the piano for you to enjoy!

Don has served on numerous boards, such as Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, consulted with many Tarrant County organizations, such as Recovery Resource Council, as well as contributed to the Downtown Rotary since 1995. He also served as an officer and helped to launch the Near Eastside Neighborhood Association.
Things get a little more serious on the FORTitude podcast today. Our guest is an undercover police officer working in the sex traffic unit. He shares a real look into what it’s like to combat sex trafficking in Fort Worth. They dig into what it really looks like and why it’s so hard to really help the victims of these crimes. This is a real-life look into what it’s like to do this work in Fort Worth. It’s a hard topic, but worth a listen.

Mike and Angelique De Luca join the podcast today. Angelique is from Fort Worth Texas, but she left at an early age to pursue a career in Hollywood, which is where she met her 'wasband' Mike. FORTitude had the honor of hosting the great Opal Lee today! She talks to Brinton and JW about growing up in Fort Worth, becoming a teacher and advocate for the community, and ultimately becoming the “Grandmother of Juneteenth.”
Opal Lee is an American retired teacher, counselor, and activist in the movement to make Juneteenth a federally-recognized holiday. Lee campaigned for decades to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. She has promoted the idea by leading 2.5 miles (4.0 km) walks each year, representing the 2.5 years it took for news of the Emancipation Proclamation to reach Texas. At the age of 89, she conducted a symbolic walk from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C., leaving in September 2016 and arriving in Washington in January 2017.

Lee was born in Marshall, Texas on October 7, 1926. She was the oldest of three children of Mattie (Broadous) and Otis Flake. When she was 10 years old, she and her family moved to Fort Worth, Texas. The Flakes later moved to the 7th Ward of Fort Worth, Texas (also known as Terrell Heights). In June 1939, her parents bought a house in the 900 block of East Annie Street, then a mostly white area. On June 19, 1939, 500 white rioters vandalized and burned down her home. Lee was twelve years old at the time. Recalling it years later, she said, "The fact that it happened on the 19th day of June has spurred me to make people understand that Juneteenth is not just a festival."

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Chef Jon Bonnell grew up hunting, fishing, and cooking with his parents and family. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1994, Jon taught science and math for two years before pursuing his love for cooking and enrolling in the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont.
During his tenure at NECI, Jon completed a six-month culinary internship at Mr. B's Bistro in the historic New Orleans French Quarter. In 1997, Jon graduated from NECI and returned to Fort Worth where he honed his cooking skills at local, upscale restaurants.
Amanda Micallef, the founder of Arsenic, joins the guys at FORTitude this week. She talks to the guys about how she went from Fort Worth to LA right after high school and never really looked back. She shares some of her wild moments working in the movie industry and how she went from working on films to creating Arsenic to ultimately leaving LA and the movie business altogether to return to Texas. She was elected District Attorney in 2014, becoming the first woman to hold the office and the 14th DA in the history of Tarrant County. She began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, where she went on to become the first female unit chief. After serving in private practice representing both civil and criminal clients, she was appointed by Governor Bill Clements to the bench of Tarrant’s Criminal District Court No. 1.
Sharen grew up in the Amarillo area, where she graduated from Amarillo College, Texas Tech University, and the Texas Tech University School of Law. In 2016, she was honored as a Distinguished Alumni by Texas Tech University Law School.

Jamie is the head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs men's basketball team, where he played college basketball. He previously served as the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team from 2003 through 2016.
Dixon was named Big East Coach of the Year in 2004, Naismith College Coach of the Year in 2009, Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year in 2010, and the Sporting News National Coach of the Year award in 2011. Dixon played college basketball at Texas Christian University, was selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1987 NBA draft, and played professionally with the Continental Basketball Association's Lacrosse Catbirds and for Hawke's Bay Hawks of the New Zealand National Basketball League.
Jill Kramer, Director of Volleyball at TCU, joins the guys at FORTitude today. She chats with JW and Brinton about her own volleyball career and what it’s like coaching. She also educates the guys on Volleyball lingo.
Kramer returned to Fort Worth, where she was the first scholarship volleyball student-athlete in the history of TCU, still holds the school records in kills, kills per set and total attacks. As a player, Kramer was the trailblazer for the program, stepping in as the first in what would become a long line of superstar outside hitters. She was inducted in the TCU Lettermen’s Association Hall of Fame in 2007.
As a coach, Kramer has shown herself to be determined to continue to grow the TCU Volleyball program. She has brought the Horned Frogs to the postseason in four of her five completed seasons.

Gary Patterson is the former head football coach at Texas Christian University and the winningest coach in Horned Frogs' history. Patterson has led the TCU Horned Frogs to six conference championships and nine bowl game victories. His 2010 squad finished the season undefeated at 13–0 after a 21–19 Rose Bowl victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on New Year's Day 2011, and ranked second in the final tallying of both major polls.
Mac Engel joins the guys at FORTitude. JW and Brinton pick Mac's brain about high school and college sports. They explore the future of school sports as things continue to change.
Mac is an award-winning sports columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram where he has worked for 20 years. He's covered the Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas Cowboys as a beat writer for several years, as well as every major college in Texas. His blog - The Big Mac Blog - was named The Best in Texas by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors in 2011. He was a delight on the podcast, be sure to give it a listen.
Kirk Saarloos gave FORTitude a visit this week. For those who don’t know, he is the current head baseball coach of the TCU Horned Frogs. He played college baseball at Cal State Fullerton for coach George Horton from 1999 to 2001 and then played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 7 seasons before coming to TCU. He led the team to the lowest ERA in school history since 1968 and was named the head coach at TCU last June.

Antonio Carlos Pecorari, famously known as Tatu, is a former Brazilian football player and current professional and youth coach, and one of the most accomplished indoor football players of all time. His nickname means "armadillo" in Portuguese. He won an MISL Championship for the Dallas Sidekicks in 1987.
Mike went to high school in Lancaster right outside of Dallas where he made a big name for himself in basketball. When he was in fourth grade, he was on a team called the Texas Titans Brinton on the AAU team. They made a viral I made a videotape of his highlights in this videotape.
He is currently playing at TCU as their point guard.
