In this week's episode, Somer and Michelle pick up where they left off last week, discussing the lasts we encounter in motherhood. Some highlights of the convo include: loving being a mom without idolizing motherhood/your kids prioritizing the Lord + others as we walk through lasts how lasts are another reminder that earth is just our temporary home

Scripture to study: - Psalm 16 - James 4:13-15

In this week's episode, Michelle and Somer get an early start on celebrating Mother's Day as they talk through navigating the firsts we encounter as moms, such as:     •    the semi hot-take that over-preparation steals more joy from the moment than it actually prepares you      •    how the unknown gives us the opportunity for deeper dependence on the Lord     •    the connection between firsts and God's faithfulness     •    Bonus: Introducing a new segment - I Disagree With...

  • If you're not a mom and debating listening or not, here's our heart that we shared in our book:

"If you're a woman and a believer, changes are that whether you have biological children or not, you will someday take on (if you haven't already) a maternal role in someone else's life. Maybe a teenager from your church you're discipling, a niece or nephew, or a young woman at work who has a strained relationship with her own family. So when we talk about motherhood here, it is not to exclude women without children, but to acknowledge, first of all, one of the grearest areas of contention in a working woman's life -- being a mom who works -- and second, to speak to our womanhood in a way much of culture is afraid to, as if it is offensive or degrading that a woman is seen as a nurturing or mothering individual. We will not participate in that narrative here because much of what the world sees as a weakness, we see as a God-given strength, as do the people in your life who depend on you for love and nurturing. But the bottom line is: when you read our stories of parenting, I pray that whether you are a mother in the traditional sense or in the spiritual sense, these stories will encourage and connect with you."

Ecclesiastes typically gets a bad rap for being pessimistic, gloomy and cynical -- but it really isn't! Acts 17 gives us something really valuable as working women: an example of how Paul shared the gospel in the middle of the marketplace! From where to begin, to how transition from what someone already believes to the gospel, and even how your testimony fits into God's greater story -- these verses equip us in a very practical way so we can be prepared for the opportunities to share the gospel at work (or really - any secular setting!) Listen here for a preview of this month's network workshop.

Preparing to be Godly Old People

Psalm 92:12-16 says, "The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." So what does that practically look like, and what can we do now to prepare? Let's talk about it.

Scriptures mentioned in this episode: * 1 Timothy 4:12 * Titus 2 * Deuteronomy 34:6

Is marketing self-glorification? It's a valid question, and one that we should ask ourselves often to check our motives. Somer and Michelle share some of their own ways they've wrestled with this question, as well as some Scriptures to guide us as we pray about what God is calling us to do to obey Him in this area of our lives.

Scriptures mentioned in this episode: John 3:30, 1 Peter 2:1-12; Ezekiel 5, Acts 14

We've really messed up the definition of hospitality which has a lot of us thinking since it's not our strength, it's not our responsibility. So we're hashing it all out in this episode, where Somer and Michelle are sharing their biggest hospitality fails (they're bad, y'all) and what God has taught them as pastors wives and women who just want to love well about the subject.

Somer + Michelle love the local church and believe wholeheartedly that it's God's Plan A for gospel community and discipleship. One of our main missions as a ministry is to "strengthen the churches" (Acts 15:41). But though church is necessary, that doesn't mean it's perfect. We categorized your questions into three categories: the purpose of church, the hard parts of church and being the church.

You won't struggle to find financial advice that claims the Bible as its source. But the more resources you explore, the more you're likely to find conflicting information, particularly concerning the topic of wealth. If Scripture doesn't contradict itself, how do these conflicting views appear in the first place? And since money is an unavoidable reality of our lives and work and Scripture does have so much to say about it, how do we truly approach the topic of wealth with wisdom?  Thankfully, there's one thing that Jesus never failed to mention when He spoke about money, and His words provide the clarity we need to approach every financial decision. Strengthen My Hands: Release the Dream and Begin the Work with Michelle Myers It's hard to dream big and start small. But you know what's even harder? Dreaming big and never starting. But that's typically what happens if we choose to despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). So this is a conversation for the big dreamer who struggles to get started. Bring your Bible and a way to take notes, so we can ground ourselves in truth before we ask the right questions needed to remove all the 'bigness" from your brain until all that's left is the work.

This week Somer and Michelle jump into scripture to answer one of the most asked questions from our swHw community, "How do I find God's will for my life?"

Passage: John 6:28-40

Some of our favorite moments from today's episode:

"Belief is an action. Belief is a motivator. Belief is active, it's not still."
-Michelle Myers

"The foundation of my faith is the Gospel... Jesus was real."
-Somer Phoebus

"If it's not belief that is talking, that is leading, and that is guiding then I can't expect the action and activity that comes out of my life to mirror the work of God because it has to start with a deeply rooted, deeply planted belief."
-Michelle Myers

""Coming to Jesus", it's active and continuous... it shows full dependence."
-Michelle Myers

"Partial dependence will only ever bring partial satisfaction."
-Somer Phoebus

"Our everyday movements, actions, community, jobs, hobbies, all of that, will contribute to the over arching will of God."
-Somer Phoebus

"Instead of looking for what's next, the belief we have in Jesus is going to make us see that one person. Jesus constantly stopped for one person. He consistently saw the one person."
-Michelle Myers

On this weeks episode Somer asks Michelle to share her heart on UNITY which is imperative to us at She Works His Way. Because we live in a world full of division, Michelle felt a deep desire to look at Biblical unity more closely. She wanted to understand what it is, why it matters, and why we are so quick to divide. This conversation will give you both spiritual and practical advice to help you better pursue unity with other believers. Some of our favorite moments from todays episode: * “Knowing the importance of unity is different than practicing the importance of unity.”

-Michelle Myers * “You cannot be unified by yourself, it requires others to be with you.”

-Michelle Myers * “When you think unity is only possible with other believers who only believe exactly what you believe you create something it was never intended to be. You become unified over something that isn’t Jesus.”

-Somer Phoebus and Michelle Myers * ”We have to protect and prioritize unity instead of our preferences and personal opinion.”

-Michelle Myers * “Division is usually fueled by some kind of fear. We choose something that is more comfortable because we fear something that is uncomfortable.””

-Somer Phoebus * “LOVE casts out fear. If fear is what fuels division then a lack of love for one another puts fear in our hearts and causes disunity.”

-Somer Phoebus * “A lot of times fear looks like pride.”

-Michelle Myers * “There is nothing that is more important than showing the world we love others and love Jesus.”

-Somer Phoebus * “This will not come if this is a half heart effort.”

-Michelle Myers * “Fellowship is FUN!”

-Michelle Myers * “If more churches had more people that just hung out with each other, than the intimacy of the people would be greater.”

-Somer Phoebus * “When believers lose their unity, something else has become more important than Jesus, 100% of the time.”

-Michelle Myers Scripture we dug into this episode: * John 17 * Acts 2

Scripture we dug into this episode: -Titus 2:5-15 Some of the most encouraging moments from this episode: "Submission is not marriage advice, it's gospel advice.” - Michelle Myers
“Not submitting to your husband isn’t a marriage issue, it's a gospel issue.” -Michelle Myers
“You can make the gospel visible by loving people so well, to the point of sacrifice, that they will not be able to deny that there is something different about you and this has to be practiced in our homes. This has to start in our households." -Somer Phoebus
“Why is this possible? Why can you do this?.. For the GRACE of God has appeared making it possible for all people.” -Michelle Myers
“The Holy Spirit in you, is training you, corrects you, encourages you.” -Michelle Myers
“God saw it fit for GRACE to train us.” -Somer Phoebus
“Grace is the thing that God uses to train us… why would we not consider training others through grace? Why is it so hard for us to use grace as a strategy to inspire and motivate and train people to be who God has asked them to be and what He wants them to be.” -Somer Phoebus

In this week's episode, Michelle and Somer talk about all the things -- from Christmas movies and music to unity and encouragement in and around the local church. Michelle takes us to Acts and dives into the meaning of Paul's instructions around "strengthening the churches." Then, Somer takes us to Hebrews to explain what "stirring up one another" really looks like and why it's so important.

Some of our most encouraging moments from today's episode: * “If you really look at [Paul's] letters as a whole, love was the marker of spiritual maturity. That wasn’t where it started, that’s where you wanted it to progress to. So we strengthen the churches by loving. Loving God, and what He says and warning of the things that come to steal our affection from Him.” -Michelle Myers

  • “We minimize what love can do for the Kingdom... Love is a beautiful thing that comes out of a life that is lived for Jesus.” -Somer Phoebus

  • "Strengthening the churches is literally understanding that [the church] is God's Plan A for community and pointing people there and pushing people there, not because its the easiest place to go, not because it's convenient, not because it's perfect, but because that is where God tells us to go.” - Michelle Myers

  • “Until we function like a body, like an actual body with all of its parts and joints and ligaments in place, providing there function, a watching world is just going to look and see a building that looks the same as any other worldly gathering, expect maybe it has a cross... We need to see a change, and that change is going to start by us choosing to love one another and choosing to love by God's priorities and not what is easiest and most convenient to us.” - Michelle Myers

  • “The motivation behind stirring each other up is that Jesus is returning, and without fully understanding that He is returning, we are going to struggle to be motivated in the right way to stir each other up... If we lose sight of eternity, we lose sight of motivation and inspiration to stir each other up.” -Somer Phoebus

  • “There really is no better way to live our lives than to be stirring each other up to love and good works” -Somer Phoebus

Scriptures from today's episode: * Acts 15:41 * 2 Peter 1:5 * Hebrews 10:24 * 2 Peter 3:1-2 * Revelation 1:13-19
