Chapter Select is a seasonal retrospective podcast. Hosts Max Roberts and Logan Moore pick a series to bounce back and forth between its entries, exploring their evolution, design, and legacy. Each season focuses on a different series with guests joining our hosts along the way to discuss and examine media outside of individual titles.
Unidentified distress beacon received! Bounty hunters Max Roberts and Logan Moore answer the call to investigate Tallon IV and Metroid’s pivotal move into first-person. Did a Texas-based studio really make one of the all-timers or was Samus better off left in the 90s?

Welcome to Season 7 of Chapter Select! Respond to the distress beacon with Scan Visor aficionado Max Roberts and Morph Ball enthusiast Logan Moore as they explore the Metroid Prime series. Along the way, they'll lose some power-ups, chart derelict civilizations, and mod the heck out of Samus as they—along with Nintendo—push the Metroid franchise into the unknown reaches of space and game design.
It has been a very long time coming—both for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and this season of Chapter Select. We have been hard at work on this season since its announcement two years ago and now, just like Retro Studios, are prepared to share its impending release plan with you all.
You can read a copy of this episode's transcript here.
Our signature bounce back-and-forth structure has given us a delightful order this time around. Besides the hilarity of Federation Force (what I have been affectionately calling Feddie Force) being our second episode, I like the console and handheld flip-flopping. Here is the release schedule for Season 7:
This season has been a journey to record with the ups and downs of life woven throughout its production. We recorded our first episode on October 14, 2023—just shy of two years to the day of its release. I've been editing the episodes over the last two months and it has been a strange treat to relive the games and show. I think that is a testament to both the show and this franchise of games we chose to play.
You may notice that there are no guests this season. The season's production cycle and our long play sessions didn't make it very conducive to have guests on the show. Even if we were dialed in, we had a difficult time getting guests for the Metroid Prime season. Our Castlevania season was/is a different story and I hope to reconfirm the guests we pitched ages ago. I do think a season of this size (just six episodes) makes our journey through the Prime series more intimate with just the two of us
The art has been a two year struggle for me and I have landed on a similar idea to Season 5 – Resident Evil. Each episode will showcase a planet and a stylized logo to help indicate the episode's subject. It's taken me ages to land on this design.
I am...relieved this season is coming out. There were times over the last two years that I thought it'd be better to can the entire show. Along the way, we lost some power-ups, armor, and had to explore new territories. I am glad we persevered, explored, and finished what we set out to do. This season is great. Make sure to subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. I hope you enjoy.
It is time for the Season 6 finale! Reformed Team Plasma members Max Roberts and Logan Moore return to Unova to see how much has really changed in the intervening two years. Has the true potential of Pokémon been harnessed by Game Freak's cold calculations or is the real power from the bond between fans and the monsters.
On Super Chapter Select: Logan tells Max all about his big Christmas plans.

It is that time in the season once again. The end snuck up on me this time. Resident Evil went by so fast. When you throw in all the work we’ve been doing on Super Chapter Select and Season 6 - Pokémon, it felt like I blinked and it was time to write this season’s behind the scenes post. Thank God I take notes all season long. 😅

For the season's structure, the classic bounce back-and-forth format of Chapter Select stands strong. We chose Pokémon generations as the backbone of the schedule. This allowed us to play the remakes where applicable. Here is the order we have for Season 6:
While I am no stranger to the brand of Pokémon, I am to most of these games. Before embarking on this journey, I had only played Blue and Diamond. Much like the protagonists at the start of the games, I have embarked on my very own Pokémon adventure filled with discovery.
As for my rival Logan, he's been earning badges and becoming Champion since the beginning. He's played almost every mainline game before this season and is here to make sure I memorize the type chart.
These ten episodes are not all we have in store for Pokémon. Super Chapter Select members have access to our Poké Battles in every single game. It's a 10 round rivalry-fueled gauntlet to see who truly is the best. You can sign up for just $20 a year for all these battles, longer shows, and exclusive episodes. You can learn more about Super Chapter Select here.
The art this season is taking the iconic Pokémon start screens and modifying them for the show. I've struggled coming up with this concept, but after playing around with fonts, colors, and console boarders, this is what we have chosen. As of this writing, I haven't made most of the art yet, so I am excited to see where it goes!
We are thrilled to finally announce Season 6 - Pokémon! We've been working on this one for over a year. The first episode will be launching next month – August 23, 2023 – with new episodes following in a fortnightly manner. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts!
It is time to launch the next era of Chapter Select. Say hello to Super Chapter Select, a premium version of the seasonal, bounce back and forth podcast you know and love. For just $20 a year, you will gain access to longer episodes and supplemental bonus content for every single season. At launch, we have nearly 20 hours of member exclusive content. You can sign up right now to support the show and gain access the entire Super Chapter Select catalog.

We have been working on Super Chapter Select for nearly two years now. The first journal entry I have fleshing out the idea is dated November 29, 2021. We began production in earnest with Season 3 – Banjo-Kazooie. That's also when we planned on launching the membership alongside Season 6 – Pokémon.
You could say this has been a long time coming. Logan and I have made shows together for over eight years. We love podcasting together and producing the best show possible. We now feel like we have a special show and offering for fans to directly support the us and the program.
Producing a premium show has been a goal of mine for over five years. I’ve been studying memberships and shows I adore to understand what makes them appealing to me and their audiences. I wanted to take our time and build our show right. I set out to apply their best principles in a way that fits our show and gives our audience a wonderful product at a fair price.
Thank you for joining us for this next chapter. We hope you enjoy!

Welcome to Chapter Select Season Five!
Logan Moore brings Max Roberts under Capcom’s horror umbrella and guides him through this nightmarish franchise. Have over 25 years of innovation and reinvention turned this survival horror series into a husk of a corpse or kept gamers on the edge of their seats? Clear out your inventory. Turn off the lights. It’s time for…Resident Evil!
You can download a copy of this episode's transcript here.
For the season's structure, Logan and I sat down and custom-tailored the order for this series. Given the nature of RE-makes, we wove in old and new together based off platform accessibility. Here is the order we have for Season 5:
I am fairly new to the Resident Evil franchise. I entered the fold with RE7 because of PSVR. When Village hit shelves, I snagged it thanks to expiring credits at Best Buy. I never went beyond dabbling with the series classics, although I have longed for the iconic chainsaw controller.
In contrast, Logan is a long-time S.T.A.R.S agent, originally getting into the series all on the GameCube. He claims that Resident Evil is personally up there with Metal Gear Solid.
All of the art this season was generated by the DALL-E 2 AI art generator. We felt there was something eerily ironic about a corporate AI whipping up art about a game series where an evil corporation creates zombie bioweapons. You know I'll be digging in deep to the how to in this season's Behind the Scenes post later this year.
It's time for you to make a Jill Sandwich, put on your headphones, and pack up some green herbs for Season 5: Resident Evil! The first episode will be launching next Wednesday – January 11, 2023 – with new episodes following in a fortnightly manner. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts!

I am excited to announce that the focus of Chapter Select Season 2 is the
God of War series. First appearing on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, God of War, Kratos, and the Blades of Chaos are still a proud titan within the PlayStation Studios catalog. God of War has arguably never been more relevant with the ninth game on the horizon with God of War: Ragnarok for PS4 and PS5, thanks to the series' legendary relaunch in 2018.
