Aysha Morgan DPT, PT, OCS, is a physical therapist at PacMed where her mission is to help people stay mobile and flexible through life. Aysha aims to make it simple and easy to do right in our own environment. Plus it doesn't have to take a lot of time, just 1 minute of stretching different muscles everyday adds up to a world of good flexibility and health. I think her nickname might be Dr. Practical. As a physical therapist Aysha's goal is for people to 'age gracefully'. The way to do this is to "move", keep our joints in motion. Using me as an example, Aysha says that walking 30-min a day is good, and making sure to stretch our leg muscles right after the walk is very important. She has us think of ourselves as a car, keeping the 4 tires equally inflated: cardio, balance, stretching, strengthening.

And a great way to thing of the beef donations during this 10 years is to equate this to hamburger patties that if they were stacked would equal 7 Mt. Rainiers!! Because CoVid exists, getting the vaccine for the seasonal flu should help us to not become sicker should we have a CoVid exposure. Children, youth, and adults with health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases should seriously be planning for 'the shot'. According to the CDC, the 2020-2021 flu shot can be administered to anyone, including those with egg allergies, as there are two vaccines licensed for use that are manufactured without the use of eggs or are considered egg-free - Flublok Quadrivalent and Flucelvax Quadrivalent.

Doug's email updates connected family, friends, and a wide network of others to Susan's condition, and these were angels Doug says who were instrumental in Susan's recovery. The story impacted many people. And there is a connection to a Martin Luther King Celebration being held at the Segal's Temple, that brings together Susan, her daughter, Alice, and a kind "Angel" who helped Alice the day of the accident. This is a great story for any time or season as it really shows the power of love, prayer, and our connection to each other.

One key way to make a difference now is to call our Federal representatives to support House Bill 4388 which provides for the implementation of curricula for training students, teachers, and school personnel to understand, recognize, prevent, and respond to signs of human trafficking and exploitation in children and youth. It included age-appropriate curricula for students from K-12.

The honorees and the folks from the Arthritis Foundation--The Bock Family, with young Izzy (just 3 years old), Dr. Amish Dave, and Steve Wright from the Arthritis Foundation, provide all the stories and details to inspire us to raise funds, and donate to The Arthritis Foundation. It's very simple to do register, which can be done online, or people do it when renewing a driver's license. Someone's tragedy becomes life giving in the event their organs can be given to another person. It leaves a legacy of hope. Vaping has been in the new a lot lately. The rise in teen vaping has been driven mainly by flavored cartridge-based products such as Juul, which controls roughly three-quarters of the U.S. e-cigarettes market. More than 3.6 million U.S. kids use e-cigarettes, including 1 in 5 high school students; 97 percent of kids who use e-cigarettes use flavored varieties. Bloomberg Philanthropies just contributed $160 Million to a program to end the e-cigarette youth epidemic.

This weekend we have with us: a teen, Phillip Fuhrman, a high school Junior, who was introduced to vaping in 8th grade. It didn't take long to be addicted, but he is now not vaping or using tobacco, and he is actively involved in the work of banning the flavored vaping products. He testified in Congress last July. His mother is cofounder with Meredith Berkman, of Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes (PAVe). Vince Willmore is VP, Communications, of "Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids".

Susie Rheault brings her new book "My Wild and Precious Life: A Memoir of Africa" to us to share a compelling story of finding our life purpose. And sometimes when we have that idea in mind, we might happen to stumble on it, or it simply comes to us. Susie "stumbled" on an orphanage in Tanzania in 2011. She and her husband were seeking for a meaning work, and in 2 small concrete buildings housing 9 AIDS/HIV positive children, they found what they were looking for. While we search for our purpose, or perhaps in addition to it, we may find ourselves drawn to supporting the work of the Precious Project. While it continues as an orphanage, a key part of the work is education, and currently the elementary school has 350 students. And the focus is to build a secondary school. This is highly important work in the world, and is making a huge difference in these children's lives, the leaders of tomorrow.

Luke Minor, Washington College Savings Plans Director, has updated info on the 2 current plans. GET (Guaranteed Education Tuition) the 529 plan we've had for the past 20 continues, and thrives. Now we have an added plan: DreamAhead--which provides account owners select savings options. The plans offer Washington families the flexibility of saving for college education for our kids. It provides an invaluable gift of demonstrating that we believe our kids can and need to go on to further education. It cuts down on future debt. And if the kids get scholarships, the funds can be used for other education costs. If the kids decide to take a different path, the funds can be used for other family members, or even ourselves. The current enrollment period is underway, and continues through May. This is a great time to invite family and friends to contribute to a plan as a holiday, or birthday gift.

James Kilgore is a writer, researcher and educator at the university level, and a man who spent some years locked in a high security prison. Because of the experience and seeing the disproportionate numbers of minorities being imprisoned, he has written: Understanding Mass Incarceration--A People's Guide to the Key Civil Rights Struggle of Our Time". Since 2002, the US has had the highest incarceration rate in the world, with 500 prisoners per 100,000 residents, or about 1.6 million prisoners in 2010, about 5 times higher than other countries of similar size, with high incarceration rates. With this being the weekend that honors the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, this connects with his stance on social justice.

Betty Lockner is the Director of Washington state's GET--Guaranteed Education Tuition--Program. It's been in a hold and revamp place for about 2 years, but is back and continues to be the best plan to save for college tuition for our children, particularly if started at a young age. It's a great baby gift, great gift to add funds for special occasions, and can even be used for our own education! if our kid gets scholarships or decides on a different future path. GET has now been in place for long enough that students have used the funds in all 50 states of the country--so it is portable. It's been used for college in other countries--which means housing, books, as well. The current enrollment period runs until May 31, 2018. It's been found that youth who know there are funds to help them go to college are 7 times more likely to go. And it's a special gift to graduate with either no debt or less debt. www.get.wa.gov
