Hello everyone! Welcome to episode 10 of the Jay Situation Podcast. 10 episodes! That’s neat, right? I really enjoy doing these and the feedback from you folks so far is that you enjoy it too, so that seems like a win-win. Thanks for listening!
Last time we covered a lot of ground. Today, I’m going to continue some of last week’s discussions and also move into some new topics.
On today’s agenda, there are five main topics:
Sound Signature Review 6.2 – The Rugged Oculus on a subcompact .22 pistol
Thanks to members and supporters of PEW Science
Testing from other sources and some new online silencer community exposure
300 BLK – barrels and components for the AR platform
Personal Defense Weapons
Quick note in these current interesting times - I’m a firm believer in a sound mind through a sound body. Strength is important. It might be one of, if not the most important things to stay healthy, long term. Stronger people are harder to kill – their bodies just work better as they get older and have better quality of life. If you have never strength trained – look into it. It will change your life, I promise.
Today’s Topics:
There is a new review dropping very soon. Maybe tomorrow. Stay tuned. You’re gonna like it. Thanks to all of you who have joined PEW Science! You guys are the best, and you’re really pushing the industry forward by supporting us – super important stuff, and you guys are amazing. Had a conversation with a few manufacturers today regarding their testing needs – very cool!
Pistols for silencers. Let’s talk semi-auto 9mm.
300 blackout. That’s right. I’m finally building one. We’ll talk barrels, which is probably one of the most important parts.
Compact small personal defense weapons (PDWs).
On the previous episode, I talked about the Silencer Sound Standard, the Suppression Rating, and Sound Signature Reviews. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to check out the website and peruse all that – if you haven’t, or if you didn’t listen to that episode, definitely check it out!
So there are a few things I wanted to cover today:
Response to the release of The Standard
An interesting observation about online culture and its evolution
Nonsensical silencer test results and claims
The Oculus on a rifle
Check out the Silencer Sound Standard and this first review!
This is a very special episode. It’s actually special for several reasons. First of all, I’m recording this on March 25, 2020 – in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
I hope all of you listeners out there, and your loved ones, are doing well in this crazy time.
Over the past year, I’ve put forth significant effort into research, development, and testing of suppressed small arms. Rather than continue to wait on this announcement, I have made the decision to go forward and not delay improvement to the state of practice any longer than it has already been delayed.
That brings me to the second reason why this episode is so special. Today, I am excited and proud to announce the launch of the Silencer Sound Standard!
In this episode, I answer some of your questions! I figured I would do this in pieces, so this is Part 1. You all asked some great questions when I solicited them on Instagram, so thank you! In this episode I address the following:
Differences between 30 caliber dedicated silencers and 5.56 caliber dedicated silencers.
Interview status with Ron Allen.
What place does additive manufacturing (3D printing) have in the silencer industry?
Additive manufacturing (3D printing) in the gun industry, in general.
Questions regarding my educational background and what I wanted to do, originally.
Thanks so much for listening - Part 2 is coming! These were great questions, so keep more coming and I’ll definitely get to them.
I was able to sit down with Mr. Karl Edminster from Energetic Armament and one of his sponsored shooters, 12 year old Raegan Hearn, during the NRAAM convention! We discussed several topics, including the following:

Raegan discusses her new shooting career and how she was introduced to firearms and shooting sports, as well as silencers. Raegan is a girl scout, competitive shooter, and fisher/hunter.
