After his great victory atop Mt. Carmel against the prophets of Baal, Jezebel stepped up her threats on Elijah, and exhausted from the battle, Elijah fled and found himself hiding under a broom tree, begging God to take his life. There he encountered God in a powerful way, and the course of his life was changed. This Sunday Pastor Kevin continues the series on the life of Elijah and will unpack lessons Elijah learned while fleeing from Ahan and Jezebel. These lessons are applicable to our own spiritual journey. Join us this Sunday as Pastor Kevin preaches the message, If God Could Use Elijah: Mt. Carmel to a Broom Tree.
“Could it be true that God has really lost His muscle? Maybe it would be more accurate to say God lost His men.” These are the words of author Eric Ludy. This Sunday Pastor Kevin begins a new preaching series from 1 and 2 Kings examining the life of the great prophet of Israel, Elijah. Elijah was used by God in extraordinary ways, but James said of him, “he was as human as we are” James 5:17. Join us Sunday as we kick off this series, If God Could Use Elijah, as we introduce Elijah and learn how we too, can be used to do the extraordinary for the Kingdom.
Nehemiah spent 12 years in Jerusalem leading Judah to spiritual renewal before he returned to the Persian palace to resume his service for the king. By the time he returned to Jerusalem, the people had drifted far from the place they had been under his earlier leadership. He immediately went to work correcting that drift and led them back to spiritual fervency. The danger of complacency that leads to spiritual drift is real and confronts us all. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will complete his series in Nehemiah and will share lessons from Nehemiah's life that will enable us to avoid that danger. Join us Sunday for Resisting the Drift of Complacency.
"As the sailor locates his position on the sea by "shooting" the sun, so we may get our moral bearings by looking at God. We must begin with God. We are right when and only when we stand in a right position relative to God, and we are wrong so far and so long as we stand in any other position." These words of A.W. Tozer remind us that God has mapped out a clear plan for our lives and His Church. That plan is made clear in the Word of God -- the means by which we look at God. Only when we place ourselves UNDER His Word are we able to navigate this life properly and effectively. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series from Nehemiah and look at how Judah's newfound attentiveness and respect for the Law of God shaped our hearts and the nation. This is the role of the Word for us as well. Join us Sunday for his message, The Word that Stands Above.
Nehemiah’s leadership of Judah in the rebuilding ofJerusalem’s walls was resisted repeatedly. Even when he thought the enemy’s pressure had slacked off, they returned with even greater determination to stop the progress. Nehemiah knew he must not quit because the stakes were too high. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series from Nehemiah, Recommitting God’s People to God’s Glory and discuss the crucial importance of God’s people continuing the battle, no matter how great the resistance becomes. Join us Sunday for Pastor’s message, The Danger of Stopping.
“I am not myself by myself." This concept is a challenge to a culture that prides itself in and promotes radical individualism.Relationships are easily abandoned and personalgratification, NOT community health is the more common pursuit. This week Pastor Kevin will continue his series from Nehemiah and will discuss how Judah’s greatest challenge was the internal strife that threatened to bring the great work of God to a screeching halt and how we as the Church can learn from their story and pursue a healthy unity that will position us for greater Kingdom influence. Join us Sunday for Recommitting God’s People to God’s Glory: Not Ourselves By Ourselves.
"There is nothing so weak, for working purposes, as this enormous importance attached to immediate victory. There is nothing that fails like success." These are the words of the great philosopher and theologian, G.K. Chesterton. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series from Nehemiah and will explore the importance of developing a deep trust in God and a keen alertness to the enemy's tactics as we learn to wait patiently on the victory that is promised. Join us Sunday for Recommitting God's People to God's Glory: The Power of Delayed Victory.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, 18th century philosopher, while not a Christian, was astute when he wrote, “People wish to be settled; only as far as they are unsettled is there any hope for them.” Too often as believers we become indifferent in our view of the world and fail to passionately pursue our calling. While we are called to be content in all things, only those with a sense of unsettledness will ever achieve the purpose for which they were created. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series, Recommitting God’s People to God’s Glory from the book of Nehemiah and will discuss how Nehemiah could not rest until the work of rebuilding had been accomplished and how we too must live with that same passion. Join us Sunday for the message, Holy Unsettledness.
Bible scholar Harriet Harrington wrote, “When God extends favor, one can expect opposition, even from close quarters.” This is the story of Nehemiah and the people of Judah. As Pastor Kevin open his new series, Recommitting God’s People to God’s Glory from the book of Nehemiah, we will explore how God’s people experienced God’s favor, how they guarded that favor, and how that favor was challenged. We will learn how to cultivate and maintain God’s favor and how to utilize that favor to bring God’s glory because “God is looking for men in whose hands his glory is safe.”—A.W. Tozer
The late Haddon Robinson once said, "You will invest your life in something, or you will throw it away on nothing.” This Sunday Pastor Kevin will discuss one of the most important investments fathers and mothers will ever make—discipling their children. From the words of David, before his death, to his son Solomon, Pastor Kevin will share four important truths. How we parent our children has eternal consequences and it is our responsibility to let our children know that and point them to their higher purpose. Join us Sunday (Father’s Day) for Pastor Kevin’s message, “Something of God in Me.”
Daniel T. Niles in That They May Have Life, writes, "Evangelism is witness. It is one beggar telling another beggar where to get food. The Christian does not offer out of his bounty. He has no bounty. He is simply a guest at his Master's table and, as evangelist, he calls others too." This Sunday Pastor Kevin will conclude his series; He Promised with a look at Acts 2 and the Day of Pentecost. The Spirit's outpouring at Pentecost was for the purpose of empowering His people for witness and today we need that same power for that same purpose. Join us Sunday for the message, The Spirit's Outpouring.
The words of Lloyd Ogilvie are powerful. "We have been instructed in the things Jesus did but know too little of what He continues to do today as indwelling Spirit and engendering power." This Sunday Pastor Kevin will address the words of Jesus just prior to His ascension in Acts 1, that once again promised the coming of the Holy Spirit, and together we will be challenged to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to accomplish all that Jesus desires. Join us for He Promised: The Promise of the Father.
A.W. Tozer wrote, "If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference." Sunday Pastor Kevin will begin his new, four-week series, He Promised, and discuss the words of Jesus in John 15 which promised the Holy Spirit would come and lead the church in the evangelization of the world. In this week's message we will learn the powerful work of the Spirit as witness to truth and witness to our spirits. Join us Sunday for He Promised: The Spirit's Witness
The world today is very different than it was in Timothy's Day -- in fact, the world is very different than it was forty years ago. But the need for building a godly heritage remains the same in every generation. This Sunday, Mother's Day, Pastor Kevin will be looking at the life of Timothy and discussing how despite his father's spiritual absence, he was part of a godly heritage inspired by Lois, his grandmother, and Eunice, his mother. Join us this week as Pastor Kevin preaches, "The Making of a Godly Heritage in a Different World."
Bible scholar R.T. France wrote that it is clear from the book of Acts that baptism was the "unquestioned initiation rite of post-Easter church." While this is unquestionably true, today it seems, the significance of baptism is being downplayed either through the popularizing of thoughtless and trendy baptisms that may provide a false sense of security to those not fully surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus or by making baptism an unnecessary and rarely discussed ritual. It is so much more, and in Pastor Kevin's message Sunday, he will help us discover the biblical significance of baptism and discuss why it should be a rich and meaningful step in the Christian's walk of obedience. Join us Sunday for "See, Here is Water! The Meaning and Powerful Implications of Water Baptism."
More than seven centuries before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the prophet Isaiah penned these words regarding the coming Messiah. "He shall see the labor of His soul and be satisfied." On this side of Calvary we know that the labor was His death on the cross, but as the author of Hebrews said, "for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross." Yet, unless He had broken the power of death, His labor would have been in vain. This Sunday we will celebrate the Risen and Victorious Christ and Pastor Kevin will unpack the words of Isaiah as he preaches from Isaiah 53 -- Suffering Servant -- Satisfied King.
The streets were lined as Jesus entered Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. The crowds hailed Him as King while the Jewish leaders reached their tipping point and moved in to execute Him. What no one realized was that Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah, and those Jerusalem worshippers were the first fruits of His inheritance -- the multitudes that He would soon redeem. Join us Sunday for the first part of our Holy Week series as Pastor Kevin preaches, The Suffering Servant -- The Prophesied King.
This Sunday Pastor Kevin continues his series Christ in the Psalmswith a close look at Psalm 45, a psalm that functioned as a wedding song for a royal wedding among the ancient Hebrews. It is a rich portait of that to which the king and his bridegroom should aspire. The imagery that is evident points to Christ's relationship with His Church -- His bride. The words of Joni Eareckson Tada are porwerful: "How easy it is for us to think that we're utterly unlovely -- especially to someone as lovely as Christ. But he loves us with the bruight eyes of a Bridegroom's love and cannot wait for the day we are united with him forever." Join us Sunday as we explore this beautiful psalm and consider The Greatest Story Ever Told.
"One does not surrender a life in an instant. That which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime." These words were found in the diary of Ecuadoran missionary martyr Jim Elliot. As we continue the series Christ in the Psalms this Sunday, Pastor Kevin will look at the 40th psalm and see how it depicts Jesus in His self-sacrifice, total obedience, and bountiful grace-giving. Join us Sunday for his message, Lifelong Surrender.
The late John Stott wrote, "The Cross holds suffering and hope together and invites us to praise Him in faith for a day that it all gives way to victory!" It was from the cross that Jesus cried out the words of Psalm 22, "My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken Me?" As Pastor Kevin continues his series, Christ in the Psalms this Sunday, he will look closely at this psalm and explore the manner in which Christ endured the cross, how even in His cry of desperation, His trust was revealed, and how that confidence can be ours when we face trials. Join us Sunday for the message, "Holding Suffering and Hope Together."
We live in a challenging and often frightening world that seems to be void of joy. Yet, for the child of God, true and lasting joy is possible through the resurrection of Jesus. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series, Christ in the Psalms and will invited us to explore psalm 16, a psalm that calls us to a life of joy rooted in the work of Jesus. Join us Sunday for the message, The Lord Who Brings Joy.
This Sunday, Pastor Kevin will preach the first of six messages from the Psalms in a series titled, Christ in the Psalms. In this first message, from the 2nd psalm, he will explore the universal plot and rebellion of the nations against the rule and dominion of God and we will learn the divine reaction to that rebellion. Join us Sunday as we are challenged to "Kiss the Son" and humble ourselves before the One to whom every knee will one day bow. Don't miss this Sunday's message, The Lord that Laughs.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, "When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die." Not exactly Church Marketing 101 - but this is the clarion call of Christ. Join us this Sunday as we look at Jesus' example and invitation in John 12 to follow Him in this "Upside-Down Kingdom" kind of living - where life comes only through death, and death brings forth abundant fruit. Will we settle for a single seed existence? Or will we heed the call of Christ to come and die?

These will be his focus in his message, Living in Obedience to the Unchanging God.
Andrew Murray wrote, "The world asks, 'What does a man own?' Christ asks, "How does he use it?" The use of all that God gives us is Christian stewardship, and stewardship is not a "willy nilly, do as we wish" part of Christian discipleship-it is indeed a crucial aspect of our Christian discipleship. Join us as Pastor Kevin begins a short series from Malachi 3, Stewardship: It's a God Thing and discusses how our response to Scripture in this important discipline depends on our trust in God. Part one is tomorrow: Trusting the Unchanging God.

Join us Sunday for Pastor's message, Living in the Depth of the Gospel.
John Piper wrote, "The fear of God is what is left of the storm when you have a safe place to watch right in the middle of it." While the Scripture is explicit that the "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10), it is equally clear that we are to have confidence as believers in the presence of Christ. Sunday, Pastor Kevin will begin his three-week series from 1 John, Confidence: The Believer's Posture in God's Presence, with a look at how we can live our lives with assurance and confidence, even though we know Jesus could come any moment. Don't miss Sunday as we learn about the Judge who fully loves and welcomes us.
Writing from prison, shackled in chains, the Apostle Paul urged believers in Colossae to do what he had done - develop a mindset and lifestyle of thankfulness independent from circumstances. Billy Graham echoed this when he said, "A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of a Christian whose heart is attuned to the Lord. Thank God in the midst of trials and every persecution." We hope you will join us today as we learn how to cultivate an attitude of gratitude no matter what the new year brings.
This Sunday Pastor Kevin will conclude his Cast of Characters Advent series with a look at the life of Anna. Along with the angels, it is the shepherds who play the primary role in announcing the birth of our Savior in Luke's account. The angels declared to the shepherds the arrival of "good tidings of great joy" and the shepherds, upon returning from the manger where they saw Jesus, came "glorifying and praising God for what they had seen." This Sunday in part three of Pastor Kevin's Advent series, Cast of Characters, we will explore the great joy we can experience when we understand fully the message the angels heralded that night to the shepherds on the Bethlehem countryside.

Christian historian Jeraslov Pelikan said, "Tradition is the living faith of the dead; traditionalism is the dead faith of the living. Tradition lives in conversation with the past, while remembering we are where and when we are and that it is we who have to decide. Traditionalism supposes that nothing should ever be done for the first time, so all that is needed to solve any problems is to arrive at the supposedly unanimous testimony of this homogenized tradition." In week one of this year's Advent series, Cast of Characters, Pastor Kevin will tell the story of Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, and we will learn how like Zacharias, we must be willing to go beyond our own expectations and human traditions, to realize the purpose of God.

This Sunday, Pastor Kevin will continue the series, Taste and See and will explore this longing described in the 84th psalm, in his message, "The Pull of Home."

This statement will become the focal point of our discussion on Sunday. You will not want to miss it!

How are we to live our lives as the redeemed people of God? Join us Sunday as Pastor Kevin continues his series through the Psalms with his message from Psalm 34, "Evidence of a Redeemed Life."

Join us as we explore Psalm 8, and are challenged to draw near His majesty and worship His excellent name.

We are in such a hurry today -- unwilling to wait, too undisciplined to be patient, and too often failing to grow. Join us this Sunday as Pastor Kevin continues his series from 2 Peter, Grow in Grace, and explores the issue of false teachers and doctrine with the message, Belief Matters -- Eternally!
The coming of Christ is not a message rooted or anchored in myth, but rather grounded in a historical event and the certain authority of God's Word. This will be the focus of Pastor Kevin's message next Sunday, part four of his Grow in Grace series from a study through 2 Peter. Join us Sunday as we learn about Christ's coming in the message, Without a Doubt.
This Sunday, in part four Grow in Grace from 2 Peter, Pastor Kevin will focus our attention toward the steadfast and unchanging truth of God's Word. The concern God in Scripture and with Peter in his second letter, is not that truth will not be known -- but that it will not be remembered. We must reflect upon it often! Join us this Sunday for Established in Truth.
This is not a call to make New Year's resolutions, but is a challenge to make 2024 the very best year of spiritual growth and fruitfulness. It will not happen unless you, as Peter writes, "Make Every Effort."
Christian Missionary Alliance founder, A.B. Simpson said this: “We are so content at the old level that God often has to compel us to rise higher by bringing us face to face with situations that we cannot meet without much greater measures of His grace. It is as though He had to send a tidal wave to flood the lowlands where we dwell to compel us to move into the hills beyond.” Spiritual maturity is God’s expectation for us and He has not left us to achieve it on our own. In part two of Pastor Kevin’s series from 2 Peter, Grow in Grace, we will learn what promises God has given to us and how we may access them. Join us Sunday for the message, A Rewarding and Worthwhile Pursuit.
Diligence is the key theme of Peter’s final words found in his second letter to the believers dispersed because of persecution. His letter was urgent because he knew that his death was imminent, and for that reason, he chose this theme. His urgent words still speak to us today. In a culture that is rife with moral deterioration and all too often, spiritual hopelessness. Peter points us to hope that is found in grace and the diligent pursuit of that grace. Join us Sunday for the first message in Pastor Kevin’s new series from 2 Peter, Grow in Grace.
When the angel said to Mary, “Are you willing to believe the impossible?” Mary said, “Yes I am!” Without that “yes,” there would be no Christmas. The miraculous birth of Jesus to His mother Mary will be the subject of Pastor Kevin’s message on Christmas Eve, and the final message in this year’s Advent series. Christmas is still filled with miracles, but someone must say “yes” to the impossible like Mary so that God can reveal His power to us. Join us for a special worship and communion service and this encouraging message from Luke chapter one.
Besides Jesus, there may be no more important miraculous birth recorded in Scripture than that of John the Baptist, born to Zechariah and Elizabeth in their old age. John’s life and birth will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s 3rd message in this year’s Advent series, Miraculous Births in the Shadow of the Manger. This miracle birth serves to remind us that God’s promises will never go unfulfilled, those who embrace God’s promise will find that cultural norms may challenge holy expectation, but ultimately God’s faithful and powerful presence will accompany those who are obedient. Join us this Sunday!
Samuel was another judge of Israel, miraculously born to his barren mother. He spent his later life working to finish properly the work that King Saul had failed to do, yet even after completing the work, its ultimate fulfillment would not be realized immediately. This week, in the second message of the Advent series, Miraculous Births in the Shadow of the Manger, Pastor Kevin will explore Samuel’s life and examine how, like Samuel, Jesus in His weakness came to finish a work that still awaits its ultimate fulfillment.
“For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.” These were the words of the angel to the barren wife of Manoah, promising the birth of a son—the one who would be a judge of Israel, named Samson. While a message about Samson may seem unusual for the Advent season, the circumstances around his miraculous birth are relevant to the Christmas story—for what Samson BEGAN to do (deliver Israel), Jesus completed in His coming to Bethlehem and His death at Calvary. Join us Sunday for part one of Pastor Kevin’s 2023 Advent series, Miraculous Births in the Shadow of the Manger.
We cannot fake running the spiritual race. Our weaknesses will become apparent, our neglect unveiled, and sin will be exposed if we fail to run faithfully. This is the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message Sunday—the final message in the Sufficient series from 2 Corinthians. Three lurking dangers of our culture will be identified and we will be challenged to honestly appraise our spiritual condition.
The notion of “tolerance” has become a cultural obsession and more often than not, the Church is left without a response. In the 11th chapter of Paul’s 2nd letter to the Corinthians, he lays out three crucial principles that can help us navigate the slippery slope of tolerance and the pitfalls that seek to ensnare us along the way. Join us for Pastor Kevin’s message, Dangerous Tolerance, the next to last message from the series, Sufficient.
Pastor Rico Tice wrote, “Success is hearing, ‘Well done’ from the only lips that matter. Failure is being successful at the things that don’t truly matter at all.” As we return to 2 Corinthians this week, Pastor Kevin will address the lurking danger of pride and indifference when we focus on others rather than ourselves. His message titled We Dare Not, will warn us against the danger ofroutinely asking God to “intervene in our circumstances while hoping He'll keep His nose out of inner things like our spiritual indifference and pride.”—John Boykin in The Gospel of Coincidence
“Darkness is my closest friend” —these were the words of the Psalmist. “Everywhere the perpetual endeavor of the enemy of our souls is discouragement. If he can get the soul ‘under the weather,’ he wins. It is not really what we go through that matters, it is what we go under that breaks us. We can bear anything if only we are kept inwardly victorious.” These are the words of Amy Carmichael in Learning of God, and they speak to the struggle that plagues so many believers today—depression and anxiety. Pastor Kevin unpacks Psalms 88 and 77 and addresses these issues—how we can help others who are dealing with depression and how we can find hope in our own situation?
Guest Pastor Robby Bradford presents the third week of our Kingdom Builders Missions Emphasis, What Loves Does.
On Sunday, Pastor Kevin returns to the pulpit with his "Sufficient" series - "Spiritual Warfare & Threats to the Gospel."
Maximus, the first known bishop of the Italian city Turin, penned these words late in the 4th century: “Rightly, he is sad, who is not drawn to payment by love, but forced by fear. A Christ debtor, then is joyful, and Caesar’s sad, because love urges, the one to payment, and punishment constrains the other; the one is invited by rewards, the other compelled by penalties.” Christian generosity is not motivated by law but by love and can therefore be undertaken with cheerfulness. This will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message this Sunday from 2 Corinthians 9, as he continues his series, Sufficient.
Pastor J.D. Grear says, “If you are not generous, you’ve never really experienced the Gospel.” As Pastor Kevin continues Sufficient, his series through 2 Corinthians and teaches part two of his close-up look at 2 Corinthians eight and nine, he will unpack five crucial keys to Christian giving and underscore the twin truths that generosity is easy for those who know what they have belongs to God, and is a response to His generosity revealed to us in Christ.
J.C. Ryle penned these powerful words, “Two things there are which man has no arithmetic to reckon, and no line to measure. One of these is the extent of man’s loss who loses his soul. The other is the extent of God’s gift when He gave Christ to sinners.” This is the indescribable gift of which Paul wrote in second Corinthians. Pastor Kevin continues his series Sufficient Grace with his first of three message from 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 and discusses why generosity is the only perfect response to God’s indescribable gift in Jesus.
The Psalmist beautifully declares that God’s majestic creation and His holy Word reveal the fullness of God’s faithful character. This revelation of God demands a response from every human being. As we explore and examine the poetic masterpiece of Psalm 19, we will be left to answer one simple question: how will I respond to this revelation?
“The same tears that break our hearts may also nourish us in ways that matter most to God.” These words of Phillip Yancey provide the jump off point for Pastor Kevin’s message, “The Response of Sorrow,” ashe continues his series from 2 Corinthians, Sufficient. We will explore human sorrow, worldly sorrow, and godly sorrow and learn about the profound implications of each.
“To applaud the will of God, to do the will of God, even to fight for the will of God is not difficult ... until it comes at cross-purposes with our will. Then the lines are drawn.” These are the words of author Richard Foster. How are we to live out the will of God in a world that stands in opposition to our faith and the cause of Christ? How is our faith to affect us in the marketplace and can our faith be integrated in the political arena? Peter said that we were exiles and aliens in this world and Pastor Kevin will discuss what that means and what it looks like in hisBig Sundaymessage,Aliens, Elections, Exiles, and Boycotts.
Missionary martyr Jim Elliot said of his generation in 1956, “we have a noncommittal morality. Nothing is so bad and nothing is so good. Everything is a muddle of both.” If true then, how much more so now? The only answer is for the people of God to live with hearts “wide open” to the power of the Holy Spirit as we carry the Gospel to a dark and broken world. Pastor Kevin continues his Sufficient series from 2 Corinthians with the message, Hearts Open to the Gospel.
As we learned last week, to the Church has been entrusted the ministry of reconciliation and that ministry is desperately needed today. All of us are called to DO ministry but not are called INTO THE ministry. But, for those who are, this calling must be seriously considered and faithfully embraced. This week Pastor Kevin will examine the call and ministry of Paul and challenge us all to, in the words of P.E. Hughes, “re-examine as before God, our own relationship to the crucified, risen, and ascended Lord and with doubled earnestness, dedicate our lives and talents afresh to the single-minded prosecution of the cause of Christ.”
“The highest Christian love is not devotion to a work or to a cause, but to Jesus Christ.”These are the words of Oswald Chambers in The Place of Help. This kind of devotion is only possible if we have been reconciled to Christ, and the message of reconciliation is the message with which we have been entrusted. Never has it been more needed than today. This Sunday Pastor Kevin will examine what that message is and how desperately we need to present it with clarity and effectiveness.
“Our world isn’t a very good amusement park. No it’s a broken place groaning for redemption. Here is meant to make us long for forever. Here is meant to prepare us for eternity.” These are the words of author Paul David Tripp and an apt summation of Pastor Kevin’s message this week as he continue his series Sufficient, from 2 Corinthians. He will discuss Paul’s focus on our earthly bodies, their inherent weakness, the suffering they endure, the groaning that leads to their full redemption, and the responsibility we carry while still housed in them—for we have not been saved for a life of aimlessness or indifference but to live as unto the Lord.
“Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.” This is how Paul opened the fourth chapter of 2 Corinthians and mercy was the theme of his ministry. Mercy is not only the expression of God toward us, it is to be the expression of all believers. As Rodney Stark said, “A merciful God requires humans to be merciful.” Pastor Kevin continues his series Sufficientfrom 2 Corinthians and share the hope that emerges from uncompromising mercy.
In a world so easily enamored by the brilliant and glowing faces of high tech spirituality, neatly-packaged faith talks, and charismatic personalities, let us never lose track of the fact that only as we behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus can we be made like Him. THIS is the focus of our attention as Pastor Kevin continues the series Sufficient, with a message from 2 Corinthians 3:7-18, With Unveiled Face.
The late J.I. Packer wrote these words. “It is impossible at the same time to give the impression that both I am a great Christian and that Jesus Christ is a great Master.” This truth is the essence of Paul’s teaching in the section of 2 Corinthians that we will be addressing this Sunday. Our sufficiency is found only through Christ and for us to live a life that reveals the greatness of Christ, we must learn to rest in His sufficiency. Pastor Kevin continues his series through 2 Corinthians with the message, “Such Trust Through Christ Toward God.”
In his 1979, Christianity Today article, These Times, author Austin L. Sorenson wrote, “A child is not likely to find a father in God unless he finds something of God in his father.” In his Father’s Day message, Pastor Kevin will take a fresh look at the parable of the prodigal son and identify principles that will help fathers discover the great potential they possess to duplicate their lives in their children and demonstrate how we can all encourage, support, and empower our fathers to experience the full blessing of that potential.
William Barclay once said, “A saint is someone whose life makes it easier to believe in God.” The apostle Paul told the church at Corinth that they were to be the temple of the Holy Spirit that provided a great light in a city darkened by pagan worship. Today WE are to be the same. In this sermon Pastor Kevin continues his series Sufficient and unpacks 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:13 , describing the characteristics of those who make it easier for people to believe in God.
Jesus called us the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world”. What did he mean, and what does it look like to be salt and light? Guest speaker Pastor Clayton Bates takes a closer look at part of Jesus’ Sermon On the Mount and discover the roadmap He gave us to lead others to him.
The world instinctively rejects the notion that suffering can serve any good purpose, but the inspired Scriptures say differently. In fact, the Bible teaches the possibility of experiencing “redemptive suffering.” Russian author of the classic War and Peace once wrote, “It is by those who have suffered that the world has advanced.” Paul suffered deeply and yet his ministry transformed the world. This Sunday, Pastor Kevin continues his series Sufficient from 2 Corinthians with his message, “Redemptive Suffering.”
“When you read God's Word, you must constantly be saying to yourself, "It is talking TO me, and ABOUT me." These were the words of Danish theologian Soren Kierkegaard and the words that form the framework for Pastor Kevin’s Mother’s Day message this Sunday. Just as in Elijah’s day, our culture has turned away from God and the emerging generation is in great peril. But, God is still speaking and if parents and grandparents will hear and obey, there is still great hope.
19th century Scottish author, poet, and Congregational minister George MacDonald once wrote these words: “We are dwellers in a divine universe where no desires are in vain, if only they be large enough.” This statement is full of truth. God is the Creator and we are not, but He has placed in each if us great desires for significance and productivity. These are not prideful or vain—if they be big enough and if they force us to depend upon God. Here Pastor Kevin delivers part two of his series Sufficient, from 2 Corinthians, and we learn how to know God’s’ plan and live lives of sufficiency.
We are called to rest in the sufficiency of Christ as we carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ, even in weakness and suffering, to a broken and lost humanity, and at the same time live in the anticipation of the “hope glory!” This will be the focus this Sunday as Pastor Kevin begins his brand new sermon series through 2 Corinthians.
Guest Speaker Dr. James O. Davis, founder of Cutting Edge International and Global Church Network.
John was clear about the reason he wrote his gospel and why he chose the signs that he chose to highlight—so that his readers might believe “that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and that believing” they might have “life in His name” (John 20:31). Pastor Kevin will complete his series That You May Believe by unpacking what exactly that belief (authentic faith) looks like and how we can attain and sustain that kind of faith.
Fifteenth century Dutch theologian Thomas a’ Kempis wrote, “For a little reward men make a long journey; for eternal life many will scarce lift a foot once from the ground.” This Resurrection Sunday Pastor Kevin will continue his series from John’s Gospel as he preaches on the 7th sign of Jesus recorded by John—the raising of Lazarus and we will discover how that miracle foreshadowed His own resurrection that would take place just a few days later. The resurrection of Christ, when confessed, believed, and embraced in its fulness is the means to our hope of eternal life but can only be accessed by sincere faith in Jesus.
Author Tim Goble wrote, “It’s tough to be in the dark and not let the dark get in you. The unending struggle for the Christian is to walk in the light and at the same time keep moving into the shadows.” This maxim emerges from John’s record of Jesus healing the man born blind and is the subject of Pastor Kevin’s message, part six of his eight-part series, That You May Believe!
“The storms that stand in our way are only an opportunity for Jesus to reveal His glory!” This is one of the many truths that we will discover this Sunday as Pastor Kevin shares part five of this eight-part series, That You May Believe and we turn our attention to the sign of Jesus walking on the water. Learn how you can deepen your faith through the storms in your life.
“I have learned something along the way. If we offer faithfully to God what we have, somehow it will be used in magnificent ways. We must never underestimate what God will do with what we give.” These words of Dr. Landis Hugh Litchfield are a marvelous summary of the miracle of the feeing of the 5,000. With obedient disciples and a little lad’s lunch, Jesus fed the multitude and completed His fourth sign in John’s Gospel. In part four of the series,“That You May Believe," we learn about God’s resources compared to ours, His wisdom and His power, and the nature of the Kingdom He desires to bring.
The narrative of the man healed by Jesus at the Pool of Bethesda highlights the peril of spiritual blindness—first the man healed who did not know the reason for his blessing and then the blindness of the religious leaders who saw the works of Jesus but failed to understand His heart. In part three of That You May Believe we consider this miracle and address the issue of Godly Restlessness.
Though our culture shuns hardship, we would do well to remember that God uses it "for our good, that we may share in his holiness" (Hebrews 12:10). In Pastor Kevin’s second message in the series “That You May Believe," we learn about Jesus’ second sign in John’s gospel, the healing of the nobleman’s son and how through adversity, God shapes, matures, and perfect our faith.
“The world in not lacking in wonders, but in a sense of wonder.” These words of G.K. Chesterton serve as a powerful reminder that God is ALWAYS at work in our world and in our lives. Pastor Kevin begins his new series from the Gospel of John, “That You May Believe,” this Sunday and he will help us explore the seven “signs” of the fourth gospel and show us how each of these miraculous wonders points us to Jesus as the Son of God.
“The trouble with steeling yourself against the harshness of reality is that the same steel that secures your life against being destroyed secures your life also against being opened up and transformed by the holy power that life itself comes from.” These are the words of the late Frederick Buechner in his Sacred Journey: A Memoir of Early Days. Pastor Kevin will complete his series, Fear Factor, and will discuss the power of fear to snuff out our hope and remind us that suffering and the cross are the means to glory and resurrection.
Author Dallas Willard said, “For those who love God, nothing irredeemable can happen to to you.” God always has a redemptive purpose for everything that happens in our lives. Through struggle, disappointment, failure, and heartaches, God is still working His redemptive plan in us. Sadly, too often fear paralyzes us from knowing that purpose. Pastor’s Kevin’s part three from series from Romans 8:12-18–Fear Factor: Embracing God’s Redemptive Purpose.
In part two of his four-part series, Fear Factor, Pastor Kevin will address the tragic results of fear that paralyzes our ability to hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit who quickens our spirits, deepens our understanding of truth, and convicts us when we drift. Don’t miss —Fear Factor—Part Two: Hearing God’s Voice.
“If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God's child, and having God as his Father.” These are the words of the late J.I. Packer. In part one of Pastor Kevin’s new four-week series, Fear Factor, he will discuss how freedom from fear enables us to fully enjoy the spirit of sonship that enables us to cry out, “Abba Father!”
If you are tired of giving in to your enemy, and you are ready to walk in the strength of the Lord, you will not want to miss the final message of Pastor Kevin’s three-part series. The Lord is our Strength, from Psalm 18. Join us as we learn how God exalts us by reversing our predicament, empowering our witness, and re-ordering our perspective.
Bethlehem was not a coincidence—it was a place of great importance, the place God had ORDAINED for His Son to be born.
Walter Wangerin Jr., an inner-city pastor and author who died in August of 2021, penned these powerful words. “This is a mystery—that Christ can be the obedient, glorious love of God and the full measure of our disobedience, both at once.” In part two of his series from Psalm 18, The Lord is our Strength, Pastor Kevin will explore this powerful mystery as we learn that the Lord as our strength EQUIPS US is by rewarding our righteousness, transforming our brokenness, and perfecting our weakness.
The Christian journey is marked by spiritual enemies and real spiritual battles. As Jill Briscoe, the widow of the great pastor Stuart Briscoe wrote, “We can worry or we can worship. Strangely enough, busy people find it a whole lot easier to worry than to worship.” The psalmist worshiped and in Psalm 18 we see the reason why. He knew that the Lord was his strength. Here, Pastor Kevin begins his three-part series from Psalm 18, “The Lord is My Strength” and we will learn that His delight is toward us and as our strength He PROTECTS us!
New research indicates that most people keep the promise they put at the TOP of their New Year’s resolution list. Pastor Kevin will take a close look at what ought to be at the top of our list and how when we “commit our works to the Lord,” our thoughts and plans “will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
The first Adam needed God to breathe life into him, while the last Adam triumphed over death and breathes life by His Spirit into all who call on Him. This, and much more in the conclusion of Pastor Kevin‘s Advent series, He Shall Be Called.
Thomas did not ask Jesus how he could live the good life. He did not ask Him how he could better follow His example. He asked Him how he could know the way to get where Jesus was headed, and Jesus said, “I am THE way!” Here we learn the implications of Jesus’ identity as “The way, truth, and life.”
In part two of our Advent Series, He Shall Be Called, Pastor Kevin will explore the significance of Jesus as the Lamb of God, tracing this language through the Old and New Testaments and unveiling the full revelation that comes with John’s vision on the island of Patmos. Here we will discover that Jesus, the Lamb of God is not only worthy of our worship but as we truly worship Him, He gives us worth as well. We will learn the eternal value of worship and come to understand the words of Timothy Christensen who said, “If worship is just one thing we do, everything becomes mundane. If worship is the one thing we do, everything takes on eternal significance.”
Thomas Merton, an American monk who died in 1968 said this of Christ—“It is He alone who holds our world together and keeps us all from being poured headlong and immediately into the pit of our eternal destruction.” This is the essence of Christ’s personal witness to John when He said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” Alpha & Omega is an in-depth look at this great name ascribed to Jesus and how it reveals His glorious deity, His ultimate centrality, and His unending trustworthiness.
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19
This passage is called the Great Commission, and it’s what drives us here at Glad Tidings. To fulfill the Great Commission we must: go, make disciples, baptize, & teach. Pastor David Wigington Jr. presents our final Kingdom Builders message, Domine Ivimus (Lord, We Have Gone).
Pastor Randy Carter of Priority One Ministries speaks on what it looks like to live so that others might be blessed.
When faced with the greatest challenge of his monarchal rule, Judah’s king Jehoshaphat brought all the people together to seek the face of God and incite His intervention. He brought adults and children alike and together they prayed. KIng Jehoshaphat knew the importance of every generation being near the presence of God. Pastor Kevin will challenge us regarding the importance of inter-generational worship with his message from 2 Chronicles 20, It Takes a Church!
The Day of the Lord—this was the term frequently repeated and proclaimed by the prophets of old, and is the subject of the final message from God through the prophet Malachi to the people of Judah. When the Day of the Lord comes, for those who have rejected and disobeyed God, great judgment awaits. But for those who have touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, healing in His wings will be found. The conclusion of the Malachi series will challenge us to be ready when that day comes.
Too often, even those who claim to be followers of Jesus, see the world with eyes and hearts that focus on what they don’t have rather than on the goodness of God. That was the issue with the people of Judah in Malachi’s day and the theme of the prophet’s final words to them. Pastor Kevin shares how we can reject the easy path of grumbling and complaining and become God’s treasured possession.

"It is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God. Even if I give the whole of my worth to Him, He will find a way to give back to me much more than I gave.” - Charles Spurgeon
Pastor Ryan Elliff presents, "Robbing God."
“It is a rare person who, when his cup frequently runs over, can thank God instead of complaining about the limited size of his mug!”These are the words of Bob Russell, retired pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. When the people of Judah lost perspective and failed to see what God was doing, they began to complain and when they complained, they lost hope. Today, many feel hopeless and that is a direct result of a life of complaining. Pastor Kevin continues the series Relevant Wordsfrom Malachi and challenges us to maintain our perspective and keep focused on the One who alone can give us a settled hope.
In Malachi chapter 2, the people of God were mixing their worship and their lives with the thoughts and desires of the nations that surrounded them, while at the same time not guarding in their lives the things of true value. Like a good father, God rebukes them for this destructive practice, while pulling them towards true worship.
The opening verses of Malachi chapter two are strong and intimidating as God harshly chastises the prophets of Israel for their compromise and warns them of the tragic consequences that will result from their failure. This piercing word also provides a challenge to Christian leaders today as well as providing a powerful admonition to all believers, calling us to keep ourselves in a position to be light in a dark world. Tragically, however, too often our light ceases to shine. Pastor Kevin preaches, When the Shine Wears Off.
**J.D. Greear said, "Without love, even the most radical devotion to God is of no value to Him. Let me make sure that sinks in... You can gain all the spiritual gifts in the world. You can take the most radical steps of obedience. You can share every meal with the homeless in your city. You can memorize the book of Leviticus. You can pray each morning for four hours like Martin Luther. But if what you do does not flow out of a heart of love - a heart that does those things
because it genuinely desires to do them - it is ultimately worthless to God." Pastor Ryan Elliff presents, "Withholding our Best."**
“You can call yourself anything you like, but if you don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the dead, you are not ‘any meaningful sense’ a Christian.” These are the words of the now deceased and infamous atheist Christopher Hitchens. He knew the message of the Gospel was that God’s love was demonstrated through Calvary’s cross. The Jews of Malachi’s day questioned how God could say He loved them while their beloved city and temple had been destroyed and they had spent 70 years in exile. Some today, ask God, “How have you loved us?” Here is part one of a brand new eight-week series from the book of Malachi entitled “Relevant Words”as Pastor Kevin explores the question of God’s love and how we can overcome doubts about that love.
Augustine said, “give me the grace to do as you command, and command me to do what you will.” Pastor Kevin concludes his series from 1st Thessalonians, Blameless When He Comes, unpacking the final seventeen verses of chapter five. Here we will learn the crucial interplay between what we must guard in our lives with the confidence that as we do, God will preserve (guard) us when Jesus returns.
“We must strive for sanctity, for holiness, to the point that we show up at Heaven's gates "squeezed out like a lemon." These words appeared in an editorial in the New Oxford Review in the July-August 1988 edition. They remind us of the need to be fully and adequately prepared when Jesus comes, to be ever decreasing so He might be ever increasing in our lives. Pastor Kevin will address this very issue as we learn what Sober Watchfulness looks like and how we can be found Blameless When He Comes.
“We, of all people, need to deny nothing true, the bad and the good. Of all people, we are most able to confess the grand proportions of death: so terrible as to defeat us all!—but defeated, rather, in Jesus.” These are the words of Walter Wangerin Jr. and they underscore the believer’s attitude about death. We do not rejoice in the pain it causes but we celebrate the truth that Christ has defeated it.
“The problem with Christians in America is not that Christians aren’t WHERE they should be; the problem is that they’re not WHAT they should be right WHERE they are.” These are the words of missiologist Os Guinness. This truth is the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message, part six of his series Blameless When He Comes. This week we will discover the power of Brotherly Love in pointing a lost world to Jesus.
Sanctification is NOT a list of rules—it is a pursuit of Christ’s Person.True holiness is rooted in the understanding that God’s will is for us to become progressively more like Christ, not to become progressively more like the world. Pastor Kevin’s shares from 1 Thessalonians, Blameless When He Comes as he discusses what it means to be found living holy when Jesus returns.
With shifts in culture happening at breakneck speed and the influence of the Church sorely diminished by both scandal and lukewarmness, the need for a vibrant witness of the Gospel has never been more needed. That witness can come only from one whose faith is steadfast. Steadfast Faith is the subject of this week’s message as Pastor Kevin shares week #4 of His series Blameless When He Comes. Join us as we learn what steadfast looks like, how it is developed, and how it is sustained.
G.K. Beale said, “Suffering is the stadium in which we run the race of faith.” Pastor Kevin will continue his series, Blameless When He Comes by discussing the purpose and power of suffering, how we can endure, and the marvelous results when we do endure.
You will invest your life in something, or you will throw it away on nothing. These are the words of Haddon Robinson, the late president of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and one of the greatest preachers of the last two centuries.Join us this Sunday as Pastor Kevin continues his series from 1 ThessaloniansBlameless When He Comesand discusses what it looks like to walk worthy of Christ. The Christian life, we will come to learn, “isn’t an arrival; its an adventure” that brings with it a specific challenge to walk with an awareness of the Gospel’s implications and to embrace them daily.
19th century German Lutheran pastor Richard Charles Lenski wrote, “It is the Christlike reflection in us today that induces others to follow Christ.” This is what Paul said of the Thessalonians, that they have become examples (literally patterns) to all who were in the region of Macedonia and Achaia of what it meant to follow Christ through trial and persecution. Can that be said of us? That is the question we will take up this Sunday in the first part of Pastor Kevin’s new series, all from the book of 1 Thessalonians, Blameless When He Comes.”
It is the desire of every Christian parent that their children grow up to know Christ and to know God as Father. But, as Austin Sorensen said, “A child is not likely to find a father in God unless he finds something of God in his father.” This Sunday is Father’s Day and Pastor Kevin will be delivering a timely message that will unpack how fathers can emulate the love and care of their Heavenly Father so that their children can grow to know Him.
Pastor Kevin’s former Bible college president, Maurice Lednicky wrote this just a few weeks ago. “Happily, we do not need to muster our own ingenuity to convince men of right vs wrong. It would be futile. Trying to compete with the culture, or compromising with the culture, is never effective in bringing people to Jesus. The Holy Spirit within, working through the believer, is a force to be reckoned with. He opens darkened spiritual eyes to REVEAL the glorious hope offered in Jesus Christ. It is this Spirit-filled life that God invites each of us to and the life we will need if we are going to impact this godless culture. Pastor Kevin concludes his two part message, "The Resurrected Christ and the Outpoured Spirit" and brings to an end the series, "Because He Lives."
What the church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can use.” These are the words of E.M. Bounds and how powerfully they speak to our generation. How can we become vessels through whom the Holy Spirit works to reach this hurting and broken world? This is the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message this Sunday (Pentecost Sunday) as he preaches part one of the the two-part finale to the series Because He Lives, a message titled The Resurrected Christ and and the Outpoured Spirit.
Where do we, as Christians, anchor our hope when the culture around us grows increasingly hostile to the truth we believe and proclaim? How do we maintain a hope that is more than wishful thinking in the midst of life’s challenges? Pastor Clayton unpacks 1 Peter 1:3-5 to remind us of two things that anchor us and fill us with “A Living Hope”.
Often it has been the case that we overlook or downplay the return of Jesus back to Heaven—the doctrine of Ascension. Some avoid the subject because they feel that it in some way denigrates or risks overshadowing the work of Jesus in His Incarnation, or at the cross, or in His resurrection. The truth is, however, that the ascension not only does not denigrate these precious doctrines, but in fact, elevates them. Here Pastor Kevin continues the series, Because He Lives with a message about Christ’s ascension and how this powerful doctrine enhances our understanding of his Incarnation, death, resurrection, and return.
19th century American Poet Carl Sandburg once wrote, “ There is an eagle in me that wants to soar, and there is a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud.” While Sandburg was certainly no Christian, his statement reflects well Paul’s indictment of the Roman Christians. Though in-dwelt by the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, most were living their lives beneath their privilege and were wallowing in defeat. Pastor Kevin will continue his series, Because He Lives and will address the issue of living up to our potential as believers, walking in the power of the resurrection as he preaches the message, Eagle or Hippopotamus?
Faced with an edict from the evil Pharaoh to kill very male Hebrew born in Egypt, Jochabed, the mother of Moses, chose to obey God rather than man and confront the godless culture that threatened to destroy the people of God. Her choice impacted generations to come. Pastor Kevin speaks to the issue of standing as godly parents in a godless culture with his special message to all parents, aspiring parents, and all who hope to make a difference in the world, A Choice that Impacted Generations.
From a Roman prison, awaiting his impending execution, Paul wrote letters to his young protégé, Timothy. He encouraged Timothy that no matter what trial might befall the young church in Ephesus, they should stand firm to the Gospel without compromise and know that the Gospel’s certainty was backed with the unalterable fact of Christ’s resurrection. As Tertullian once wrote, “Truth does not blush.” Part three of Pastor Kevin’s series Because He Lives features the message Truth Does Not Blush.
Timothy Keller said, “Worship is seeing what God is worth and giving him what he's worth.” Sadly, it seems today that many believers fail to see the worth of the resurrected Christ and consequently fail to worship Him appropriately. In part two of his series Because He Lives, Pastor Kevin will discuss the fulness of Christ’s worth and explain how His resurrection fully establishes that worthiness.
French philosopher and Christian antagonist Luc Ferry, leveled what he thought was an insult to the Christian faith. “The entire originality of the Christian message resides in good news of literal immortality—resurrection, in other words and not merely of souls but of individual human bodies.” He could not have been more accurate. This IS the unique message and the foundational hope of our faith. Pastor Kevin’s Easter message, Now IS Christ Risen is the first of an eight-week series titled Because He Lives.
Naturally, we are inclined to be so mathematical and calculating that we look upon uncertainty as a bad thing...Certainty is the mark of the common-sense life. To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways, we do not know what a day may bring forth. This is generally said with a sigh of sadness; it should rather be an expression of breathless expectation.”These are the words of Oswald Chambers and they demonstrate the faith of one who trusts Christ in the face of an uncertain future. Pastor Kevin concludes his series, Facing Our Fears with his message about how Daniel faced the fear of an uncertain future and trusted the God who called him and rescued him from the den of lions.
Our culture values the big, the great, and the impressive and it is easy to feel if you are not, then you are insignificant. Many live their lives fearing that they don’t matter. Esther was an orphaned, Jewish girl living in a faraway land with no real hope of ever making a difference. The fear of being insignificant would have been natural for her but she found out that God wanted to use her, and use her he did. We will learn through the grand story of Esther, how to face the fear of being insignificant and allow God to accomplish His plan through us.
Former press secretary for George W. Bush, Tony Snow, once said while battling terminal cancer, “We want lives of simple, predictable ease—smooth, even trails as far as the eye can see—but God likes to go off-road." Sometimes God decides to re-orient our life expectations. That is what happened to Elijah and in part three of the series, Facing Our Fears, Pastor Kevin will explore the life of Elijah and we will learn how to face the fear of Exploded Expectations.
One of the great fears that plagues Christians is the fear of the impossible—looming circumstances that seem to hopelessly paralyze us. What is needed is a new perspective that can help us break free from the paralysis of impossible situations. Bob Reccord wrote, “We are all faced with innumerable opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” We will learn how Gideon faced his impossible situation and instead of being paralyzed, he seized his opportunity.
Fulton Oursler wrote, “We crucify ourselves between two thieves: regret for yesterday and fear of tomorrow.Part one of Pastor Kevin’s news series, Facing Your Fears begins with "Caleb & the Giants"
In a world where turmoil and uncertainty seem to dominate much of humanity’s existence, it’s easy to become discouraged, disappointed, and disillusioned. Many people turn to worldly solutions to find relief and rest from this reality, but each time they are left still searching for a solution, as other attempts were dead ends. How are we to navigate this present reality as children of the King? What solution will offer relief and rest? The Psalmist provides a clear and certain solution—praise! Praising God as the Sovereign One causes everything else to fade away and refocuses our life on what is MOST important. In this final message of the With the Psalmist We Pray series, Pastor Kyle will draw our attention to the prayer of the Psalmist, a prayer of total praise!
Derek Kidner wrote, “God not only sees the invisible and penetrates the inaccessible, but He is operative there.” This truth is never more clearly revealed than in the 139th psalm, a psalm that underscores the great attributes of God and invites the believer to stand in awe of His marvelous character while inviting Him to search our hearts and reveal those areas of our lives that lack an appropriate witness to His holiness. Join us this week for part five of Praying with the Psalmist and the message, The Prayer of a Heart of Integrity.
Crawford Lorritts, speaking of the spiritually bankrupt culture in which we live said, “We are managing our sin rather than repenting of our sin.” If the truth be told, the notion of biblical repentance is rarely discussed in the Church today. This Sunday, in part four of his series, With the Psalmist we Pray,Pastor Kevin will explain what a repentant hearts looks like by exploring the powerful prayer of repentance by David after his sin with Bathsheba. This model of prayer, if followed, will lead to healthier spirituality and a deeper, more effective walk with Christ.
British author and self-ascribed agnostic Julian Barnes wrote, “I don’t believe in God but I miss Him.” What could possibly make him write so vulnerably? The truth is that we were all made in the image of God and as James Mays writes, “God created the human soul to correspond to God.” This truth will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message as he continues the series With the Psalmist we Pray and from Psalm 42-43 shares the message, The Prayer of the Thirsty Exile.
An awe struck life is a humble life—“awe minimizes our individual identity and attunes us to things bigger than ourselves.” These are the words of Elizabeth Bernstein who also noted that “awe is a response to something vast.” God’s people are to be in awe of His vastness and our prayers should reflect the humility of one who is in awe of God. Psalm 30 unveils that type of prayer and it is the subject of Pastor Kevin’s message in part two of the six-part series, “With the Psalmist we Pray.”
Amir, the protagonist of the fiction novel, The Kite Runner, rehearsed in his mind his own failure to intervene; when at the age of 12, he watched as his friend was violently abused in a forsaken alley. In his fear, he did nothing and his failure to act haunted him. “Looking back now, I realize I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years.”Christians remain haunted by the failures and sins of their past and cannot seem to break free. David had to deal with his own failures when he was forced to flee from his son, Absalom, who had usurped the throne from his father. In this context David penned the 3rd Psalm. Those ancient words still provide us great counsel as we wrestle with the failures of our own past. Join us for part one of the six-part series, With the Psalmist We Prayand this week’s message Sustained and Unashamed
"These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” John 15:11. These words of Jesus in His final discourse to His disciples set the parameters for the final message in Pastor Kevin’s series, Abiding in Christ.
19th century Scottish Theolgian Peter Taylor Forsyth wrote, “It is possible to be so active in the service of Christ as to forget to love him.” Pastor Kevin continues in the Abiding in Christ Series as he discusses how we can learn to KEEP ourselves in the LOVE OF GOD.
When we learn to abide in Christ and His words abide in us, we live as close to Christ as one may live. This SHOULD be the passionate pursuit of all who call Christ “Lord.” It is this dual condition of abiding in Him as His Word abides in us that will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message, part two of his four-part series, Abiding in Christ.
Author John Eldredge wrote, “If I'm not abiding in Jesus, then where is it that I abide?” This is the question we will consider as Pastor Kevin begins his new series Abiding in Christ from the words of Jesus in John 15. Learning what it means to abide in Christ and both the struggle and benefits of living in communion with Jesus will be the focus of part one of this series.
Even when walking by faith, there are times when it seems God is silent while we suffer. We ask, “How long, oh Lord?” But in reality, He’s always at work behind the scenes to accomplish His grand plans for our lives. Pastor Ty Thompson presents "Fullness of Time."
“You shall call His name Jesus” (Matthew 1:21). That was the announcement of Gabriel to Joseph, repeated later to Mary, indicating the divine name that was to be given to the Christ-child. That name, “Jesus,” will be the focus of our attention this Sunday as Pastor Kevin concludes his Advent series, He Shall be Called. We learn that the brokenness of our world and the despondency of the human heart can be healed when we encounter this one named Jesus, the One who came for a unique purpose. In the words of theologian B.B. Warfield, He comes–He comes–O blessed day!–He comes to take my sin away!”
In a prophecy penned nearly seven centuries before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah that would come would be the precious CORNERSTONE of God’s new building—the Church—the Kingdom of God. But, as the Cornerstone, He would to some become a stumbling stone, others would fall upon Him and be broken, and still others would be crushed by His great power.
“Bread of Life? Jesus lived up to the title. But an unopened loaf does a person no good. Have you received the bread? Have you received God's forgiveness?”These are the words of Christian author Max Lucado and their focus is the same as that of Pastor Kevin’s message this Sunday, the second of the Advent series, He Shall be Called.
Lloyd Ogilvie said, “We may be sure that we are going to live forever, but sometimes we have a hard time getting through life with a daily sense of God’s peace.” Sadly, many who confess Christ as Lord, still find peace to be elusive. In part one of his Advent series, He Shall Be Called, Pastor Kevin will help us see that peace is not limited to times when all is in order and tension is absent. Peace is available no matter what we are facing as we lean on the Prince of Peace and find in Him, strength for another day.
Pastor Wayne Murray, from Grace Assembly in Greenwood, presents the conclusion of our Kingdom Builders series, "Why I am a Kingdom Builder."
It was God’s purpose for the temple that it would be a house of prayer to ALL NATIONS. But Israel’s selfishness ridded it of its divine purpose and the nations were shut out. Angry at what he saw, Jesus drove out those who exploited the purpose of the temple and kept the nations from entering. Today, the nations still do not know Jesus and it is our responsibility, as God’s new temple, to carry the gospel into “all the world.” Sadly, however, we go about our business and forsake the holiness of God‘s presence and never become the people he has called us to be.
Guest speaker, Reverend Tom Paino, joins us as we are unveiling the 2022 Kingdom Builders vision to share the Gospel around the world, partner with missionaries to complete building projects and new initiatives, and plant churches right here in East Central Indiana.
If fasting doesn’t change the way you see a hurting world then your fasting is neither godly nor biblical. This is the focus of part-two of Pastor Kevin’s message, Not So fast—The Fast Chosen by God.
Part one of Pastor Kevin’s two-part series on fasting, Not So Fast:God’s Chosen Fast. From Isaiah 58 we will learn that fasting is not intended to get favors from God or manipulate God’s power, but rather to teach us how to overcome the besetting sin in our lives and to learn the great joy of walking in obedience.
In the final message of Pastor Kevin’s series from Psalm 119, he will address the relationship that the Law has with New Covenant Christianity and discuss whether or not we have any responsibility to live by it. Special attention will be given to our understanding of salvation and how redemption was pointed to and dramatically revealed in the Old Testament Law.
Our Lord is depicted in many different ways throughout the Scriptures. Some prefer to see Him as a strong warrior, mighty and able to fight and conquer. Some prefer to focus on His tender nature – loving, caring, and gracious. Yet perhaps no metaphor describes Christ in His entirety as He relates to His people as what we find in John 10 – Jesus the Good Shepherd.
A.W. Tozer wrote, “What I am anxious to see in Christian believers is a beautiful paradox. I want to see in them the joy of finding God while at the same time they are blessedly pursuing Him. I want to see in them the great joy of having God yet always wanting Him.” This should be the posture of every Christ-follower and it was certainly the case for the psalmist who cried, “Open my eyes that I might see wondrous things in Your Law” (Psalm 119:18).
English Puritan Thomas Manton said, “The Word is God’s epistles and love letter to our souls.” What did he mean by a “love letter to our soul?” This will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message this Sunday in part three of Oh How I Love Your Law. Together we will learn how God’s Word is able to bring us joy in the midst of a world that is in trouble. Does this love letter from God occupy your thoughts and dominate your moments of reflection? This is what God desires.
One of the great and often-repeated truths of Scripture is that “The Lord is our portion.” This is synonymous with saying, “God alone is enough—He satisfies and fulfills. He is our inheritance.” Peter described the believer’s inheritance as “imperishable,” “undefiled,” “unfading,” and “kept.” The Law of the Lord, God’s Word, is the compass that keeps us steady and focused in our journey toward the full reception of our inheritance.
J.I. Packer, in his classic work, Knowing God said, “the root cause of our moral flabbiness is that we have neglected God’s law.” This Sunday Pastor Kevin will begin a new series, “Oh How I Love Your Law” and will spend the next several weeks unpacking the timeless truths of Psalm 119, the longest and maybe the most influential of all psalms. Listen as we learn about the Word of God, as the Touchstone of Godliness, that which determines the authenticity and provides the framework for our spiritual lives.
Text: Psalm 5:1-8
Life is hard and evil is rampant. It can overwhelm us, steal our joy, and affect our perspective. What is the key to shifting our focus and renewing our perspective? In his sermon, Pastor Clayton unpacks Psalm 5 to show us The Power of God's Presence.
When asked to list all of the assets of the China Inland Mission so he could open a bank account, 19th century British missionary Hudson Taylor replied, “Ten pounds and all the promises of God.” This is the confidence followers of Christ can have when they learn to give with a heart of generosity.
In part two of A Matter of Generosity, Pastor Kevin will point us to the MODEL of our generosity—Jesus Christ, who “though He was rich, for our sakes He became poor, that we through His poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). We learn how Jesus, as the model of our generosity, focused not on His own possessions but humanity’s need, responded to that need not out of compulsion but voluntary compassion, and was willing to give sacrificially, knowing that His sacrifice had eternal implications.
19th century South African pastor Andrew Murray said, “The world asks, ‘What does a man own?’ Christ asks, ‘How does he use it?’” The expectation for the child of God is a life of generosity and the goodness of God is the primary motivation for our generosity. This week is the first of Pastor Kevin’s three-part series, A Matter of Generosity.
19th century Scottish Theologian P.T. Forsyth once said, “Unless there is within us that which is above us, we shall soon yield to that which is about us.”The Holy Spirit resides within every believer and it is His work in us that empowers our witness, gathers the harvest, and leads us into a fuller revelation of Christ. Pastor Kevin concludes The Third Person: The Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit as we learn the great benefits that come to us through the Holy Spirit, Our Divine Partner.
“Lord, it's dark in me; in you is day. I am alone, but you will stay. I am afraid; you never cease. I am at war; in you is peace." This was the prayer Dietrich Bonhoeffer prayed over a prisoner about to be executed by the Nazi guards. Bonhoeffer knew the peace that came from the ever-abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, the precious gift of the Father that Jesus promised to His disciples and is available for us today. Take a listen to part one of a two-part series by Pastor Kevin, The Third Person: The Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit.
“There is no success without sacrifice. If you succeed without sacrifice it is because someone has suffered before you. If you sacrifice without success it is because someone will succeed after." These were the words of Adoniram Judson, missionary to Burma who died in 1850 after 38 years there. He gave his All for the Gospel. Pastor Kevin concludes his series from Colossians with the message All for the Gospel and asks the question, “Are WE All for the Gospel?”
Writing about Paul’s admonition to the church of Colossae regarding family relationships, N.T. Wright mused that if we find Paul’s words of 3:18-4:1 to be anti-climactic after the description of the “sublime pristine worshipping church” in 3:12-17, it is “perhaps a sign that we have not fully integrated belief and practice.” This Sunday we will consider the inspired instructions of Paul and learn how we can live “Christianly” in the place we are, and be ourselves in the Lord and help other members of the family truly be themselves in the Lord as well.
Pastor Kevin delivers part 1 of the message The Responsibilities of Re-birth. This message will focus on our responsibility as believers for own own lives in relationship to holiness as well as the part we are to play to ensure that the church is a place where the peace of Christ rules and the Word of Christ dwells.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “‘Putting on Christ’... is not one among many jobs a Christian has to do; and it is not a sort of special exercise for the top class. It is the whole of Christianity.” The putting on/putting off metaphor is used often by Paul and before one can “put on Christ” they must first “put off” that which is not like Him. Pastor Kevin will explore the things that are incompatible with our position in Christ and show us how we are to put them off.
Brian Larson wrote, “The Christian walk is much like riding a bicycle; we are either moving forward or falling off.”This necessity of growing in our Christian faith will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message, The Privilege of Re-birth, this weekend. As those who have been born again, we have been granted both spiritual privilege and responsibility.
In a culture flooded with competing ideologies and emerging philosophies, the Church must be grounded in the truth that is “according to Christ.” Despite the absurdity of paying homage to empty and impotent ideals, our culture is doing just that, cheated by these worldly philosophies and paying a great price.
Paul’s urgent warning to the Colossians regarding the dangerous delusion of doctrinal truth has never been more relevant than it is today. Being keenly aware of the tactics of Satan to corrupt the church’s doctrine, adequately prepared to resist his ploys, consistently engaged in the development of doctrinal safeguards, and embracing corrective measures to address the delusion are all crucial to the health and growth of the contemporary American church. In this message, Pastor Kevin preaches from Colossians 2:1-7, the message A Dangerous Delusion.
Psalm 1 is about two men, or two types of people - the righteous man who lives for God’s glory and the wicked man who lives for His own pleasure. In this sermon, Pastor Clayton unpacks these two ways and their very different outcomes.
C.S. Lewis, in The Problem of Pain said this— “To ask that God's love should be content with us as we are is to ask that God should cease to be God...” Paul did not want the Colossian believers to become satisfied with their present spiritual condition and so “struggling with all his energy” he taught and warned them of the need to mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28-29). This will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message this weekend as he uses Paul’s letter to remind us of the necessity of Continuing in Christ.
Vishal Mangalwadi, Christian scholar from India once said, “Secularism acquired the ‘truth’ brand by default because evangelicalism began defining the Church’s mission as (just) cultivating faith, not (also) promoting knowledge of truth.” In the church’s attempt to emphasize the role of faith we have forsaken our responsibility to become the “pillar and ground of truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). In this sermon, Pastor Kevin continues his series, Jesus at the Center and outlines the three principles of The Gospel Truth that we must unashamedly proclaim.
The wise author wrote, “Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches” (Proverbs 24:3-4.) The Apostle Paul said that in the last days, “perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1). One of the great perils of our day is the cultural attack on the family. For this Mother's Day, Pastor Kevin unpacks the words of the proverbial writer and outlines three crucial principles to cultivating A Godly Home in a Troubled Time.
In part two of Firstborn Over Both Creations, Pastor Kevin’s message from Colossians 1:15-20, we will learn how Christ, through His resurrection made public His eternally held status of preeminent Son of Godand revealed Himself to be the fulness of God in whom we find the answer to every need and the assurance of being made right with God.
Bible scholar N.T. Wright aptly writes, “Indeed it is only in Jesus Christ that we understand what divinity and humanity really mean.” Pastor Kevin continues his series from Colossians with part one of the message, Christ—The Firstborn Over Both Creations and begins to explore how only in Christ can we truly understand who God IS and who God meant US to be, how everything and everyone owes their existence to Christ, and how all that is brought into existence by Christ is held together by Him as well.
Pastor Kevin completes the opening message from his series from Colossians, Jesus at the Center, by outlining the definitive and unchanging parameters of the Christian faith that is rooted and grounded in Christ. We will learn that Biblical Christianity is a practical, understandable, and living faith that should engage the culture while at the same time revealing God’s will for the world through the work of His Son—Jesus Christ!
In the opening message of Pastor Kevin’s new series, Jesus at the Center,he will identity the most harmful theologies in today’s church, explain how, like the people of Colossae, we can be too easily “cheated” through the “empty deceit” of these philosophies, and will reveal the spiritual bankruptcy of these false teachings by comparing them to true biblical Christianity.
“What’s past is prologue!” These are the infamous words of Shakespeare in The Tempest and they serve to remind us that what has happened in the past sets the stage for what will happen in the future. Never is this more true than in the resurrection of Christ from the tomb on that first Sunday morning! It’s His resurrection that assures our justification and gives certain hope that one day we will be raised to meet Him and forever live in His presence.
John penned the immortal words, “And the Word became flesh!” (John 1:14). This act of supreme humility, the incarnation, when God became man, is at the very core of our profession and essential for our salvation. Jesus became human so He might spend that humanity FOR US!
The text is from John 12:20-28; Luke 22:39-45; Romans 8:31
Often we muse that when we get to heaven we plan to ask God certain questions OR we embrace the sentiment of the old Gospel song, We’ll Understand it Better By and By. But what reward will the realization of heaven really bring to the child of God? Pastor Kevin brings to a conclusion his series on eternal judgement and reminds us that Heaven is the confident hope of those who HAVE eternal life; Heaven fulfills the promise of Jesus; and Heaven does not reveal divine reasons for life’s struggles, but it does reveal divine purpose.
While the words of John Hannah are absolutely true, “No one who is ever in Hell will be able to say, ‘God you put me here,’ and no one in Heaven will ever be able to say, ‘I put myself here,’” still the fact remains that every believer, bound for heaven will be judged by Christ after death. This judgement is called the “Judgement (or Bema) Seat of Christ.” Pastor Kevin explores the parameters, criteria, and implications of the Judgement seat of Christ. The text will be from Romans 14:4-12 and 2 Corinthians 5:9, 10.
Theologian J.I. Packer once wrote, “God is not just unless He inflicts upon all sin and wrongdoing the penalty it deserves.” This is the doctrine of eternal judgement—Hell. While 89% of Americans believe in Heaven, just 73% say they believe in Hell, and only 4% believe they will go there. Matthew, however, records the words of Jesus when he said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it” (Matthew 7:13).
There was a day in the evangelical church when sermons about both Heaven and Hell were commonplace. That day has passed. Much of the nation and in fact many in the Church, have either chosen to disregard the doctrine of eternal judgment or have come to doubt its reality. This weekend, in part one of his new four-part series, Pastor Kevin will discuss the NECESSITY of divine and eternal judgment and what that means to us.
G.K. Chesterton wrote, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult, and left untried.” Join us this weekend as Pastor Kevin concludes his four-part seriesI Would Rather be a Doorkeeperand reminds us how incomprehensible it is to having once started pursuing the presence of God, to turn back.
The psalmist, describing the pilgrim’s journey to Jerusalem where they would experience the presence of God, said “they go from strength to strength” (Psalm 84:7). This phrase could be summed up by saying, “the closer the GOAL, the greater the PULL.” This week, in part three of I Would Rather be a Doorkeeper, Pastor Kevin will discus how that the closer we get to truly knowing Christ intimately, the more intense the desire to know Him even better becomes.
Living a lifestyle of pursuing God and longing for the manifestation of His presence in the community of God comes with both joys and struggles. In part two of Pastor Kevin’s four-part series from Psalm 84, I Would Rather be a Doorkeeper, the serious struggles that befall one who pursues God’s presence will be discussed as well as the great blessing of God’s refreshing love and mercy that accompanies the one who so pursues Him.
It was Spurgeon who spoke of having a “holy appetite” for the presence of God and that appetite is reflected in the words of the psalmist, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God that dwell in the tents of wickedness” (Psalm 84:10). Psalm 84 and the presence of God will be our focus for the next four weekends.
In a prayer attributed to Sir Francis Drake, this powerful petition is found—Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the waters of life; having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity; and in our efforts to build a new Earth, we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim. This weekend Pastor Kevin will conclude his series,It Starts with Prayerwith a message about the importance of prayer when hungering for revival. From the prophet Habakkuk’s short, but powerful prayer we will learn the importance of praying that God will act before its too late, that a revelation of His holiness will be seen by the Church, and that He will be merciful to His people in times of turmoil.
Phillip Brooks, author of the timeless Christmas carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem said this, “Do notprayfor easy lives;prayto be stronger men! Do notprayfor tasks equal to your powers;prayfor powers equal to your tasks! Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle. But you shall be a miracle! This weekend Pastor Kevin will preach part two of his three-part series, It Starts with Prayer and will unpack the truth of living life that is indeed a miracle. .
“Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays." - Soren Kierkegaard
Pastor Kevin’s first series of 2021, It Starts with Prayer, is the kick-off for the 21 days of prayer and fasting that begins on Monday, January 4. This series will underscore the powerful role that prayer plays in the life of the believer and in the worship of the church and will focus on how prayer is the catalyst for VISION (part one), MIRACLES (part 2), and REVIVAL (part 3).
From Mark 7:24-30: we will look into the life of a mother determined to help her daughter and a loving God who is determined to capture our hearts!
While angels were central to the birth narratives of Jesus, first predicting Christ’s birth and later announcing it, Scripture indicates that they long to look into the glorious experience of humanity in response to the Gospel. In the final message of Pastor Kevin’s 2020 Advent series, he will give us a close up look at the prophet’s search, the preacher’s message, and the angels’ yearning, all centered in the Gospel. Be challenged to never take for granted the marvelous privilege we have as the redeemed of the Lord!
The night Jesus was born in Bethlehem the angelic choir announced His birth to the hillside shepherds, and part of that heavenly declaration was the promise of peace on earth! The truth, however, was that the broken world, filled with hate and fallen humanity, could not offer that peace. It could only come through the child born that night. Peace still eludes a hurting world and still, it can only be found in Christ who gives a peace not afforded by the world. Join us for part three of Pastor Kevin’s advent series, Yearning, and experience the peace that comes only through knowing the Incarnate Savior!
Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote... “The cross is not the terrible end to an otherwise God-fearing and happy life, but it meets us at the beginning of our communion with Christ.” This was the reality experienced by Simeon, the elderly saint who long-awaited the coming Messiah and rejoiced when his eyes were allowed to see Him. He knew that to embrace Christ meant to embrace the cross. Part two of Pastor Kevin’s advent series, Yearning, explores how Simeon’s encounter with Christ informs ours and how yearning for Christ means to embrace the cross as well.
Prolific Christian author Max Lucado wrote, Fear doesn't want you to make the journey to the mountain. If he can rattle you enough, fear will persuade you to take your eyes off the peaks and settle for a dull existence in the flatlands.Fear is the great paralyzer of so many Christians and never has fear been as prevalent as it is right now in 2020. In the final message to this series, Pastor Kevin will discuss the stifling effects of fear in the life of the believer, look briefly at four prominent fears, the fear of death, fear of the enemy, fear of the future and the fear of being rejected by God, and reveal how fasting can help us detach ourselves from the spirit of fear that threatens to render the church powerless.
In part two of the four-part series Detached-The Way to a Deeper Walk with Jesus, Pastor Kevin will address the issue of detaching from a stagnant or dormant faith. Drawing lessons from the lives of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary, we will ask ourselves, “Do I really welcome Jesus in my home?” “Do I honor Jesus from my heart?” and “Do I honor Jesus consistently when the opportunity exists?”
Pastor Kevin begins a four-part series, Detached-The Way to a Deeper Walk with Jesus. This series will deal with the importance of fasting, how it facilitates the believer’s deepening walk with Christ by enabling them to detach from a world that seeks to suck them in, and how fasting can and should become part of our spiritual journey. This weekend Pastor Kevin will unpack the danger of friendship with the world and through the example of Jesus show us how to combat that danger.
The Philippian church was special to the Apostle Paul because of their partnership with him in the Gospel, but he sees some signs of disunity that threaten to undermine their Gospel witness. Join us this weekend as Pastor Clayton explores the causes and cure for disunity, and our calling to be like Jesus in order to preserve our witness and impact the world for Him.
It is not always easy to stand for our Christian faith. In fact, it takes an intentional effort on our part to ward off the evil that is in this world. Our best defense against the attacks of the enemy is to be prepared and thoroughly equipped. The good news is, we don’t have to fight the battle alone. God has given us everything we need to fight our battles and we already have the victory in Him. Here, Pastor Jeff unpacks how to stand in faith with, "What Do You Stand For?"
The ancient inspired sage wrote, “Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you” (Proverbs 4:25). One of the great keys to accomplishment in the Kingdom of God is the ability to focus on God’s calling and press toward that goal without distraction. D.L. Moody once said, “I suppose they say of me, ‘He is radical; he is fanatic; he only has ONE idea.’ Well, it is a glorious idea. I would rather have that said of me than be a man of ten thousand ideas and do nothing with them.” This weekend Pastor Kevin will clearly lay out the focus of our pursuit in the coming decade (our glorious idea), and share crucial and life giving principles essential to accomplishing this vision.
In Mark chapter 5 we find a very interesting encounter between Jesus and a man possessed by many demons. We find a man that was gripped with darkness, his story stained by brokenness, but when he met Jesus everything changed! This was an encounter that would change his life forever, and reveal to each of us God’s ability to use our life and our story for his kingdom. The title of this message is “Called to Go” and we will discover that what Christ did for this man, he has done for us, and that God has also uniquely called each of us to GO and tell the story of what God has done in our lives.
As Christians living in a world that is increasingly hostile to people of faith, we walk in the tension of trusting fully the sovereignty of God and desiring to fight back. What are we as Christ-followers to do? In the final message of this series from 1 Peter, Pastor Kevin will delve into this very issue and provide some clarity to help navigate this tension. Join us this weekend (Saturday at 5 or 7pm of Sunday at 9 or 11 am) or online as Pastor Kevin preaches from 1 Peter 5:6-10, the message Living Balanced Lives in Exile.
The church that experiences trial, hardship, and suffering as they live as exiles in a world to which they do not belong, can find themselves rife with division and conflict. This need not be the case if healthy parameters are in place. Godly and accountable leaders who join with a holy congregation committed to service, will ensure a healthy church that can effectively reach their community for Christ.
Pastor Isaac Miller discusses who he has been as an adult in the third part of this four-part series on identity. Scriptural references included Revelation 2: 2-5a and Ephesians 6: 10-20.
In part 2 of Pastor Isaac Miller's series on Identity, Pastor Isaac discusses the topic of restoration, and how God makes our identity in this process. Scriptural references include Ephesians 2: 1-10 and 4: 17-24.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that suffering and persecution may be the lot for the Christian in America. What exactly is the New Testament understanding of suffering and what is the believer’s response supposed to be when it happens? This will be the focus of Pastor Kevin’s message this weekend and this teaching is something that every Christian needs to hear
Pastor Isaac Miller starts a new series this past week on our identity, what we think of ourselves, and what God has specifically engrained in us as His creation. Scriptural references include Ephesians 1: 3-14.
As the world becomes more and more godless and the pressure to cave to the influences of our culture becomes more intense, the people of God are called upon to stand with greater conviction and shine more brightly with a message of hope and holiness. In order to do that and to navigate the land mines of a truth-denying society, we must have a North Star, a guiding principle that shows us the way. This week Pastor Kevin will address that very issue from 1 Peter 4:1-11 and together we will learn what is the guiding motto of the exile.
New Testament scholar N.T. Wright wrote, "To embrace the Ascension is to heave a sigh of relief, to give up the struggle to be God (and with it the inevitable despair at our constant failure), and to enjoy our status as creatures: image-bearing creatures, but creatures nonetheless." Pastor Kevin continues his series from 1 Peter, discussing this week, the topic of suffering for those who identify with Christ. In this message he will address the very real possibility of Christian suffering, what we can expect when we suffer, and the assurance we can have as we face the inevitability of suffering for the cause of Christ.
In the final sermon of our four-part series on Goals, Pastor Isaac Miller discusses how we can celebrate the work God has done in our lives, and how to accomplish what God wants, we must have God-sized gratitude. Scriptural references include Nehemiah 6: 15-16, 8: 9-12, 9: 26-33, and 10: 28-39.
Pastor Isaac Miller gives part 3 of a 4-part series on goals this week, based out of the book of Nehemiah, and discusses how God gives us the strength to overcome adverse situations and complete the task God has given us. Scriptural references include all of Nehemiah chapter 4.
In John chapter one we read the story of how Andrew, after hearing Jesus, went quickly to his brother Simon Peter and brought him to meet the Master. When Peter encountered Jesus his life was forever transformed and he became hugely instrumental in carrying the Gospel to the world. Had Andrew not brought Peter to Jesus he wouldn’t have known Jesus or made the impact on the world that he did. Paul said in Romans 10:14, “And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?”
How many wouldn’t know about Jesus if God’s people didn’t share their faith and send missionaries to proclaim the Gospel to the world? Our missionaries join us today in service as they explain how they "Bring Them to Jesus"
"Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."
These were the words of Jesus to the religious leaders who criticized Him when He fraternized with the tax collectors and sinner friends of Levi. The people Jesus was found ministering to were the ones that SHOULDN’T have been in His presence according to the religious elite. Many in the church still feel the same way, that there are some who just shouldn’t be part of the things of God. When we are really honest with ourselves we are all among the shouldn’t.
Pastor Isaac Miller discusses Nehemiah chapters 1 and 2, and focuses on our unique design for goals to be accomplished through God, for His kingdom. Scriptural references are Nehemiah 1:11 and 2: 17-20.
At Glad Tidings our theme for 2020 has been “Bring them to Jesus!” As followers of Christ we are mandated to take the gospel into all the world, and to make disciples (Matthew 28). This week we start a new 3-part sermon series that will lead us into our annual missions emphasis. In the opening message we will be looking at a story from the gospel of Mark, chapter two, about four friends who, as the NLT puts it, “couldn’t bring him to Jesus.” The title of the message is "Canceling The Couldn’t", and in it we will see how these four friends were willing to do whatever possible to see their friend brought to Jesus!
Pastor Isaac Miller starts a new series on Goals, and God's wisdom in attaining them as a youth today. Scriptural references come from Nehemiah chapters 1 and 2.
19th century South African pastor and author, Andrew Murray in his With Christ in the School of Prayer wrote, “My relationship with God is part of my relationship with men. Failure in one will cause failure with the other.” As great as the responsibility is for the Church to uphold truth, equally important is her call to love her neighbor. This Sunday, Pastor Kevin will further explore Peter’s exhortation to first century believers and discuss our responsibility to love unconditionally, not only those within the Body of Christ but those who stand in opposition to it, and unveil the key to walking in the blessing of God.
Pastor Isaac Miller explores what the true response of a Christian should be during the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping our world. Scriptural references for this message are James chapters 3:1-10, 3:13-18, and 4: 1-10.
Professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology, Andreas Kotsenberger writes “Incredible as it may seem, we can no longer assume that people in our culture understand what the proper definition of “marriage“ and the “family” is.” He goes on to say that “the culture’s memory of the biblical tradition in which it is largely based is fading fast.” As we have learned over the last several weeks, beleivers are called to live like exiles in a world to which we do not belong. Nowhere is this more important that within the context of marriage and family. Desperately our world needs to see modeled what godly families really look like.
Last Sunday Pastor Kevin began unpacking the very real conflict that is coming to a head between dueling worldviews, one of the Bible and the other shaped and informed by critical theory, a human construct that seeks to undermine the very core of Christian values. This worldview, prominent within most circles of higher learning, has become attractive to a generation disenfranchised by a Church that has failed to acknowledge their past shortcomings and neglected to live out the mandate of Jesus to care for the oppressed and to value and engage all humanity equally. This Sunday he will bring this message to a close by highlighting the danger of trying to embrace two worldviews, exposing the ultimate threat to the Church of doing so, and offering a biblical way forward to becoming the Church we were called to be
The grave and devastating consequences an iceberg poses to a passing ship is not what is visible to the ship’s crew but rather what lurks beneath the surface. Often below the ocean’s surface an immovable and destructive mountain of ice threatens to destroy the unsuspecting vessel. Likewise, underneath the surface of today’s orchestrated cultural chaos is a poisonous and demonic agenda that threatens to not only wreak societal havoc, but is deceiving many within the Church and leading many to abandon the Gospel. This comes in the form of a narrative that while embraced by many confessing Christians, stands as an affront to the biblical narrative and is not compatible with the Gospel. In this sermon, Pastor Kevin pulls back the layers of this emerging worldview, outlining truths that will stir wholesome and biblical thinking, and setting forth the godly response to this godless philosophy.
The price of our freedom as Americans was great—the costs were devastating. Today, those freedoms are being fiercely attacked and the liberty we have enjoyed seems frail. The attack on freedom extends beyond the earthly realm and today there is a target placed on the liberty we have in Christ that comes only through faith in Christ. False teachers have spread heretical doctrine that seeks to undermine our standing in Christ. This was happening in Galatia and it was this very issue that prompted Paul’s letter to the Galatian church.
As we continue the series from 1 Peter and further explore what it looks like to live and serve in a world to which we don’t belong, this text calls us to consider not only our actions but the way we think. Our culture in inundated by a worldview that, though at times seems compassionate and sensible, is at its core in opposition to biblical truth. Pastor Kevin shares part one of this three-part series that will help us consider issues of justice and other cultural shifts through a biblical lens.
One of the great leaders of the first Great Awakening, the great revival that swept across our nation, Jonathan Edwards once said, “Prayer doesn’t bring the awakening; prayer is the awakening.“ Today our nation is in need of a second great awakening. We have an enemy that is seeking to destroy our culture, our young people, and nation! We don’t need a bystander just minding their own business. We need someone who will stand in the gap! Join us this Father’s Day weekend as Pastor Kevin deals with the great text of Ezekiel 22, "I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one" (Ezekiel 22:30).
The renowned and recently passed apologist Ravi Zacharias said this, "In an attempt to be reasonable, man has become irrational. In an attempt to deify himself, he has defaced himself. In an attempt to be free, he has made himself a slave. And like Alexander the Great, he has conquered the world around him but has not yet conquered himself." Irrationality sadly describes much of the societal wisdom that has filled our airwaves and dominated the public discourse in recent days. To this cultural chaos First Peter still speaks. Pastor Kevin, in his message, "Submitted—Free—Honorable," addresses the specific issue of how we as Christians, as exiles in a world to which we do not belong, are to interact with governing authorities that God has placed in our lives.
Pastor Kevin continues the series from 1 Peter this weekend with a message titled, "The Critical Engagements of the Exile’s Journey." In just two verses, Peter lays out what is to be the pattern of Christian living as exiles in a world to which we do not belong. Living with a keen awareness of the eternal battle for the soul of humanity and and an unwavering commitment to the glory of God are the two crucial challenges for God’s people in this broken and troubled world.
In weeks one and two of “Exiles – A Letter to the Lost Who Have Been Found,” Apostle Peter established the Christian’s nature as an exile, and set the stage for the challenging topics that he will address in the latter part of the chapter. This week, Pastor Josh will uncover the climate, the cravings, and the clarity of an exile, and will share that how we live and what we pursue truly matters, and that God’s plan is to use us to point people back to God.
In part two of Pastor Kevin's series, "Exiles - A Letter To The Lost Who Have Been Found," Pastor Kevin will further look at the life of an exile and discuss the need for true Christ followers, committed to the pursuit of theIr eternal inheritance, to have what 20th century Scottish preacher Murdo Ewen Macdonald called "adequate internal resources." These include an appropriate spiritual posture, consistent and godly practice, and a confident and eternal perspective.
In this first message of this new series, Pastor Kevin will explain the context of Peter’s letter sent to believers who were seeking to learn how to live in a land that was not their home. Today we find ourselves navigating the same issue-Heaven is our home and we are pilgrims and exiles in this world.
Pastor Kevin will tag-team with Pastor Josh and Pastor Kyle in sharing a timely message from Deuteronomy 6 about what makes a truly blessed family, the priorities of that blessed family, and what lessons we can take away from this season of shutdown that will make for stronger and more blessed families.
In the final week of his three-part series, "When We All Pull Together," Pastor Kevin will explain the biblical notion of fellowship (koinonia in the Greek) and discuss how necessary it is in the life of the church. Koinonia is far more than a Sunday potluck dinner or a dessert afterglow. It has to do with shared responsibility and our role in cheering each other on to finish the spiritual race. This is even more important today than ever before.
In week one of the three-part series, "When We All Pull Together," we learned the importance of shared responsibility and encouraging one another to “hold on without wavering” and endure, even through the most difficult of days. In part two, Pastor Kevin will unpack the beauty of the position we are privileged to enjoy as worshipers in God’s presence, and reminds us of how even in this honored context, we are to consider one another before ourselves.
Much is said about believers bearing their cross but in reality the bearing of crosses is a responsibility of the Body of Christ collectively as well. Paul said to the Galatians, we are to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). In part one of Pastor Kevin’s new three-part series "When We All Pull Together", he will address the encouragement of the writer of Hebrews to his readers to hold on without wavering and will reveal the role that each of us has in encouraging our fellow believers to HOLD ON.
The resurrection of Christ was the quintessential victory and a devastating blow to the kingdom of Satan and his design to destroy humanity. If death is the final enemy to be defeated then all other enemies are trampled by Christ’s resurrection.
Nothing could be so devastating as watching the One in Whom you had placed all of your trust and upon Whom your hopes and future rested, be brutally tortured and executed right before your eyes. That was precisely the experience for the disciples of Jesus and others who had encountered and followed the Lord when He was crucified. Their hopes were devastatingly shattered. They had no idea that the cross that shattered their hopes was really the means by which a greater hope would be guaranteed. Today many find themselves in a season of shattered hope and yet the cross of Jesus still promises a marvelous future.
Disappointment and shattered expectations are the reality for many today and often that reality can lead to a sense of disillusionment and bitterness. The expectations of many Jewish nationalists were shattered when they realized Jesus had not come to set them free from Rome’s tyranny but rather the greater evil—sin. Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a mule was the beginning of those shattered expectations and for many who lined the streets that day, the outcome was perilous. God can bring great hope and victory from the broken dreams of our lives if we will be open to His work.
One of the most destructive forces challenging the effectiveness of the church is the ungodly tendency of God’s people to judge and criticize one another. In the final message of his three-part series, "First Things First," Pastor Kevin will bring clarity to the words and parable of Jesus about the inappropriateness and impracticality of trying to remove a speck from the eye of another while toting a beam in our own. Pastor Kevin will remind us of the damaging effects of criticism and how to guard ourselves from this sinful habit.
As we find ourselves living in challenging and somewhat uncertain times, the words of Jesus have never been so important. In tomorrow’s message, "First Things First-Kingdom First" from Matthew 6, Pastor Kevin will unpack the call of Jesus to set aside worry and instead pursue kingdom values wherein we find the comfort and assurance of our Heavenly Father.
