Today in the guest chair we have Ashley and LaToya from Curls No Lye. Curls No Lye was founded in June 2015 by Ashley Anderson. It started as an Instagram page with the purpose of becoming an open forum for the natural hair community. The goal was to learn and grow along with the support of other naturals just trying to learn what works best for their curls. In February 2018, LaToya Pickett joined the team as an administrator with the same vision for the brand. Since 2018, the brand has evolved into product reviews, a YouTube channel, podcast features and brand partnerships. We felt the only thing missing for our curl friends was apparel. In light of National Infertility Week , I felt that it was important to talk about infertility in the Black Women Community. I know personally that I am not knowledgeable about infertility and because we don’t talk about it. It’s such a delicate subject. So I felt it was important to have a Black woman come to the chair to talk about infertility.
In the guest chair today, on a special episode called Owning Our Truths, I brought Stacey Brown. Stacey Brown was diagnosed at the young age of 25 with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser. MRKH syndrome is a disorder that occurs in females and mainly affects the reproductive system. This condition causes the vagina and uterus to be underdeveloped or absent, although external genitalia are normal. Which means a woman cannot get pregnant and will deal with infertility.

Today in the chair we have Kanani Young, who goes by Nani, started her Event Management and Coordinating Experience as a Special Events Coordinator at one of the largest Wedding/Conference Centers in San Diego, California.
After years of experience with weddings and special events, a need for a coordinator was one problem for clients she wanted to help resolve; from a venue standpoint. Once discovering the love for weddings, people, and event coordinating, Nani Events was born in May of 2011.
Since then, Nani Events has expanded Coordinating Services to the state of Arizona, established a banquet hall in La Mesa, Ca., and recently added another company under the Corporation called Marry Me SD (a company that provides beautiful proposals set-ups with Marquee Letters and decor). The future of Nani Events is to establish an all-inclusive Luxury Venue in San Diego, California, In hopes of employing her family to pass down for generations to come.

Today in the chair we have Raven Hanks. Raven Hanks is a health and wellness coach from Chicago IL. currently residing in Houston Texas. She had an opportunity to find her passion for helping others about 2 years when she began sharing her own weight loss journey on social media.
Being uncomfortable about her weight she decided to make some lifestyle changes. It started with working out but ultimately required a change in her nutrition. She found a meal that was simple and easy to follow and continued to incorporate fitness. She was able to drop over 40lbs, gain her confidence back, and now showing others how to do the same.
Raven has also launched a residential nutrition club “RR Nutrition” serving protein shakes, lit energy teas, and healthy donuts & waffles.

Today in the guest chair we have Adrienne Peden, 33 year old black woman from San Diego, Ca who now lives in Nashville, TN. Adrienne received her BA in Health Education from Ashford University and is now working on her Master’s from Eastern Michigan University to becoming a licensed Registered Dietician Nutritionist.
During the day Adrienne is a document specialist but at night she is working on her passion of nutrition through school and her nutrition business called Peden Nutrition. Adrienne is a huge animal lover and loves to work out. When asked why Nutrition was her passion, she replied, “Nutrition is my passion because I love helping others gain their health back”.

She will be speaking on behalf of Black Women in their 40’s. Dr. Washington is a 43 year old single woman who was born and raised in San Diego CA. She received a Doctorate of Psychology with a specialization in Executive Coaching from University of the Rockies in 2016. Washington, also authored a children’s book titled the God in Mommy in 2007 and is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. Dr. Washington’s passion and purpose is to facilitate restoration in the lives of the individuals she encounters. She currently resides in Tempe, AZ where she enjoys the companionship of her family and loved ones. When asked the question, What does being a black woman mean to you? Kiara is from Hampton,Va and is currently an Engineer. A fun fact about Kiara is up until college, she was very much into the performing arts world and was in everything except acting, not her calling she says . When asked what it means to be a black woman, Kiara said: " It means strength, it means undeniable beauty. It means standing firm in the face of adversity. It means everything. Today in the chair we have Erin Nkele, LCPC. Erin is the first therapist in our “Ask a Therapist” series. She is a native of San Diego, CA and now resides in Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Xavier University and her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is the owner and founder of Melanated Wellness, LLC, which is a private psychotherapy and life coaching practice. She is employed as a therapist at the Victim Assistance and Sexual Assault Program Coordinator for Montgomery County Department of Human Health Services. Her responsibilities include: working with survivors of crime and trauma and a contract therapist at COMPASS Mental Health Consultants, LLC. working with juveniles with sexual behavior problems. One fun fact about Erin, she is OBSESSED with Game of Thrones. She will sit and talk to you for hours about it; even more so, if you have read the books! When I asked Erin, What does it mean to be a black woman? She responded, “Such a loaded question, as a black woman I feel so complex and so Multidimensional. I am a creator, I have brought life to this world. I am a healer, I make people's lives whole again and I am an individual who if flawed yet loves extremely hard and deeply and is forever growing to be a better human. I love being a black woman and all that it brings to the table.” In this episode we discuss grief and trauma as it relates to the holiday season. Erin mentions the following definition and resources for those experiencing grief and trauma as well as abuse.

Arionna Dickson a 25 year old, born and raised San Diego, CA native. Her current occupation is a Content Creator. One fun fact about Arionna is , she enjoys cooking dinners on (Instagram TV) IGTV. When asked what does being a black woman mean to her, Arionna’s response was: "Being a black woman to me, means that I am not less than; I am more than capable of doing any and everything I set my mind to outside of the social norms.
