God, in His perfection, has sent out a bunch of invitations for people to come and be a part of His Kingdom. In his message, Pastor Kory said, Jesus doesnt just want to have a dance. We need to get married. In other words, this invitation from God is to have a lifelong commitment to Him. It's a covenant relationship like a wedding, but it is even more beautiful because its full of grace, forgiveness, and unbelievable, unconditional love! Yet as beautiful as the invitation God sends out is, it has been rejected over and over again.
Jesus teaching in this week's passage comes in response to a person's question. Its a question that you may have thought about before: how many people are really saved?
Todays passage is a story of Jesus healing a woman who has had some spinal disease, but it is more than just a physical ailment. Verse 16 tells us that at it is Satan who has bound her and causes her to have this problem. Satan is behind every evil, but Jesus has the cure for every ailment. Jesus has the cure He has the answers, He can heal. He heals physical diseases, emotional hurts, and whole communities. For a nation in turmoil, we need God's healing. For each of us individually, as we struggle with physical or emotional hurts, we need Gods healing.
In the passage that we will look at today, Jesus says that He brings fire uponthe earth. Were going to consider this passage in detail because it is one of the harder teachings from all of Jesus words to understand, but this hard teaching is very helpful for us.
When we think about the things that we tend to worry about, is it not true that we worry about things that are outside of our control? We worry about what someone else might think or how our finances are going to be in the future or a job interview, or something at our current. We cannot control these things, and so we worry about them. We worry and worry, but the worry doesn't help the situation because it doesn't increase our control of the situation.
Being rich towards God brings a lot more joy and meaning into our lives than being rich with money and possessions. Seeking to become rich towards God means that we will use our money, not selfishly, but for God and to invest in things that will last for eternity.
