At the end of John’s Gospel, Jesus tells Peter to feed and love his sheep. As disciples, we are called to do the same and care for God’s people…but who are the sheep and what does feeding them look like? In this series we will explore stories from throughout the Bible where Jesus, disciples, prophets, and the Spirit love and care for others.
This week, Todd concludes our series with a reflection on Ezekiel 34, where God promises to shepherd his people with justice, compassion, and care. Through this vision of the Good Shepherd, we are reminded that God's heart is for those who are lost, wounded, and overlooked—and that following Jesus means joining in that work of restoration.

This week, Andrea reflects on Paul's vision of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians, exploring what it means to care for God's sheep in a world that often overlooks the vulnerable. Through a disability lens, we are reminded that those society may consider weak or invisible are indispensable to the flourishing of the whole. Following Jesus means joining God's work of honouring, caring for, and centring those whom the world too often pushes aside.

We hope both to recognize more clearly the presence of Jesus in our lives, and to learn what prevents us from recognizing Jesus at work in our midst.
This week, Todd teaches from John 21, reflecting on Jesus’ post-resurrection appearance and what it reveals about who He truly is. This passage invites us to see both Jesus and ourselves more clearly: to recognize His self-giving humility, to rediscover our own humanity, and to consider how being known and welcomed by Christ draws us toward others with the same grace.
Throughout this series, we will journey alongside many in the Gospel of John who do not truly “see” Jesus at first, but eventually come to a new way of “seeing” him. We hope both to recognize more clearly the presence of Jesus in our lives, and to learn what prevents us from recognizing Jesus at work in our midst.
This week, Andrea teaches from John 13, reflecting on Jesus washing the disciples’ feet and what it reveals about who He truly is. Beyond simply calling us to serve, this passage invites us to receive—to allow Jesus to meet us in our vulnerability, to be fully seen and known, and to discover how being served by Christ transforms the way we love and serve others.
Throughout this series, we will journey alongside many in the Gospel of John who do not truly “see” Jesus at first, but eventually come to a new way of “seeing” him. We hope both to recognize more clearly the presence of Jesus in our lives, and to learn what prevents us from recognizing Jesus at work in our midst.
This week, Todd teaches from John 11, reflecting on the raising of Lazarus and what it truly means that Jesus is “the resurrection and the life.” Rather than focusing only on the miracle itself, we are invited to see the deeper wonder of a Saviour who enters our grief, stands in solidarity with our sorrow, and reveals that eternal life is not a product to earn but a person to trust.
Throughout this series, we will journey alongside many in the Gospel of John who do not truly “see” Jesus at first, but eventually come to a new way of “seeing” him. We hope both to recognize more clearly the presence of Jesus in our lives, and to learn what prevents us from recognizing Jesus at work in our midst.
This week, Andrea reflects on John 5, inviting us to put on our “Jesus glasses” and learn to see as Jesus sees. Through a story of unprovoked grace and those Jesus chooses to see, we are challenged to notice the unseen and trust God’s work, even when it disrupts familiar ways of seeing.
Throughout this series, we will journey alongside many in the Gospel of John who do not truly “see” Jesus at first, but eventually come to a new way of “seeing” him. We hope both to recognize more clearly the presence of Jesus in our lives, and to learn what prevents us from recognizing Jesus at work in our midst.

This week, Andrea reflects on an unexpected vision of the nativity—rather than settling for a safe or polished version of Christmas, she invites us to remember that Jesus comes into a broken world, where vulnerability and danger coexist. It encourages us to hold onto the familiar story of the baby in the manger while staying open to the deeper truth that God’s unexpected light is stronger than any darkness.

This third session focuses on questions about belonging - what does it mean to be 'a church', what does it mean to "belong to a church" in a time such as this.

The second session in a series of consoling, challenging and enlivening conversations led by Kim and Todd about what we think it means to be a Christian today and how the way we hold our faith has implications for our church community and our daily lives.
This time we consider what it looks like to pass our Christian faith on to others, especially (but not exclusively) to the generation that comes after us. As we consider the theological, cultural, and political landscape in which we find ourselves, these evenings are intended to help us articulate and embody our faith in Jesus.

The first of a series of consoling, challenging and enlivening conversations led by Kim and Todd about what we think it means to be a Christian today and how the way we hold our faith has implications for our church community and our daily lives.
In this first session, we hope to address some of the questions that have been posed:
- God doesn’t change, but over the years my Christian faith and beliefs have changed. Is that OK?
- How do I instill faith in my kids in ways that are intentional, invitational and not harmful?
- Is there a “Christian” view on various hot-button topics like abortion, or medical assistance in dying?
- Where is CapChurch theologically in relation to other churches on the North Shore?
Answers to these questions come from articulating what we think is core to Christian faith, what we are meant to hold onto more loosely, and how we integrate these things with our daily lives.
This first session was held on Wednesday October 23, 2024.

This Winter and Spring, join us for a leisurely walk through the Gospel of Luke as we pay attention to the many places in Luke’s gospel where the Kingdom of God breaks in and we find our expectations of who is ‘powerful’ and who is ‘weak’ are overturned.
The fourth Sunday in Advent CapChurch gathers for All Church. Together, with anticipation, we celebrate the nearness of Christmas and the arrival of God made human.

This Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent; where we explore our December theme of “Waiting” - through the lighting of the first 2 Advent candles, familiar carols of anticipation, a message from the book of Joel, and an intergenerational time of ornament making.

Our fall series on the book of Jeremiah concludes. This week Kim wraps up our fall series with an exploration of chapter 52. In doing so, we learn about the fulfilment of God's promise and generations of waiting - we look ahead to the coming season of Advent and the anticipation of the arrival of the Messiah.

CAP SUMMER SERIES: "LIES WE HAVE LOVED"
Mantras like “everything happens for a reason” or “God helps those that help themselves” can bring us comfort in times of difficulty, but are they actually Christian ideas? And most of us come to realize at some point that even ‘biblical’ statements like “God has a wonderful plan for your life” or “God only gives us as much as we can handle” may not be true in the way that we had originally thought.
This July and August, join Kim and Todd on Sundays in person at Maplewood Flats and on Zoom as we seek to debunk some of our favourite Christian myths and offer foundational Christian truths in our summer series: “Lies We Have Loved”. This Sunday’s lie: “God will only give you as much as you can handle."
In the first installment of our March series, Kim explains the concept of Holy Resilience and shares the story of Hagar's encounter with God who sees her in the midst of her struggle. Kim then interviews psychologist and Capper Dr. Rami Nader, who shares insights from both his professional practice and from his own personal encounters with God.

Rick Faw joins us from A Rocha (A Christian Conservation Organization) to unpack the story of God's creation through scripture, metaphor, and hopeful reflection. Rick tells of a good creation, made and loved by God, groaning in anticipation of Christ's redemption. We are invited to live in the good news of God's story.
Kim speaks of the goodness of God by comparing the Genesis creation stories with other ancient narratives. She invites us to live in the tension of 2 truths: Things are not the way they are supposed to be... and... God is good.
Kim lays the foundation for our series in Genesis 1-11, highlighting our love for stories and the ways in which the big story of the Bible speaks to the biggest questions of life.
