Earlier this week, we were hit on social media with the images of teachers that were barely making it. Some of them were being quoted as saying that it’s a struggle to be the BEST TEACHER even with all of the personal struggles they face outside of the classroom. Things such as robbing Peter to pay Paul. Having the lights cut off. Donating plasma to pay the light bill. Not being able to go to the doctor office to pay their co pay because they have to make the tuition payments on their child’s college bill. It’s Professional Educators from K- the collegiate level that are experiencing this. And while this article will highlight Public school teachers, this isn’t far from the truth with those of us that teach on the collegiate level.
How are teachers suppose to be GREAT despite all of the DEMANDING requirements from Administrators and parents?
Let me know your thoughts on this show after you’ve listened to it.

On today’s episode, we are going to take a look at why African American kids are constantly being attacked within the educational system. Did you know that African American students are suspended at a GREATER rate than white students? What if we provided an educational system where all children were taught about the contributions of Africans and African Americans from ancient times and not just at the beginning of slavery, would this change the perception that many people have about our youth? How can we put an end to the school to prision pipeline? All of these questions and more will be answered by Rahiem Shabazz, the Award Winning Documentarian that has written and executive produced 3 documentary films on this topic.

Are our children FREE at last? Today, we are going to pay homage to Dr. King, who would have celebrated his 89th birthday. And while we celebrate Dr. King’s birthday I am also celebrating my 21st year as an educator on this day. Twenty one years ago, I became an educator as a high school chemistry teacher and I would later become a GED and HR teacher. I am currently a College Chemistry and Biology Professor as well as an Educational Consultant where I go into many schools each year to empower our scholars to become a STEM (Science Technology Engineering or Math) Leader one day! All of these accolades would not be possible if it were not for the DREAM that Dr. King had for our children. He’s not the only one that wanted African American people to be FREE mentally and physically from the chains of racism and white supremacy.

The More than Just Science Show Podcast
Today is the second day of Kwanzaa for December 27th! KUJICHAGULIA. "To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves." This is one of my favorite principles of Kwanzaa. Growing up, I had to recite this particular principle during our week long celebration of Kwanzaa. Our mentor would take us around from church to church in the evening to do Kwanzaa programs and we even appeared on TV during time of year. My sister and I enjoyed this festive celebration because we were able to see so many youth from around our city come together and celebrate. I’m going to share how Uncle Luke, OutKast and Goodie Mob actually have lyrics that correlate to this particular principle.
STEM Education is becoming more popular by the minute. Women are pursuing STEM right alongside the men and we are going to learn why we should EMPOWER our youth to diversify their attitudes about SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATH! And we can’t forget about the A for ART, so STEAM education.
Hear how Ms. Tokiwa Smith, CEO and Principal Consultant of Kemet Educational Services, a STEM educational consulting firm, established in 2010 focused on ensuring that pre-college, community college and undergraduate students are prepared to pursue STEM careers. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc., which she founded in 2005, a nonprofit organization that exposes urban youth to STEM and STEM Careers by connecting them with members of the STEM community.
Tokiwa is constantly working towards NEW adventures to get our young people to STRIVE for EXCELLENCE no matter what. Don’t use excuses to get to the TOP of your SUCCESS! She shares how you can still be the best YOU in STEM!

What does it take to become a Ph.D candidate in a STEM related field when society tells you that you're a statistic? You're a young, black male who's NOT suppose to succeed! You should be incarcerated or dead!.........Says WHO?!
Hear how Dominique Stephens was able to dispel the myth that young black males aren't capable of learning. He will share how he earned his BS in Chemistry (Butler University) and MS in Biophysical Chemistry (Georgia State University) all while breaking stereotypes within his department. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Biochemistry. He is also a competitive powerlifter and founder of the brand Scientists Who Lift.
Don't believe the hype! When you hear these stereotypes of our men, we have to TUNE THEM OUT and turn on the POSITIVE messages that WE KNOW ARE TRUE! Not all of our men are in jail, dead or drug dealers. As a matter of fact, we have a lot of brillant minds walking around the streets of AMERICA that just simply need to be given the chance to SHINE and let it be known that they are SMART and INTELLIGENT! They are not an ENDANGERED SPECIES.
Can you make learning fun while teaching about STEM education topics? Here how one company is bringing back the concept of Schoolhouse Rock with a HIP HOP twist to teach Millennials how to learn and retain their information.

If not from generational curses or physical ailments the mere fact of living in a single parent home in a contorted world already predicted chaos. But God had a greater plan. Aligning true family, friends and well-wishers around him, the growth in this now 32 yrs old recording artist is apparent. Servicing his lyrics as bait to draw in willing and unwilling vessels to Christ is what his main focus has become. No longer focusing on self centered advances in the world but homing in on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Stacey, to know God, Christ and the Holy Spirit is a very delicate experience.
