Generating Passive Income with a Side Hustle to the Side HustleRecently started making cookie cutters for my girlfriend. It’s been a good way to increase my proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Fusion. The great thing about this work is once it’s done I have files that have value to others. Taking of my designer hat and putting the businessman hat on, I saw an opportunity to generate a bit of passive income. So I setup an Etsy shop to sell my files.

But since I am a maker at heart, wanted to share my workflow (Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk Fusion, PrusaSlicer) so you can make your own cookie cutters if you don’t want to spend cash.

I was fortunate enough to acquire a Makera Carvera CNC milling machine. My interest in the Carvera is for small-scale manufacturing of circuit boards. While not quite as easy (yet!) as my old OtherMill CNC machine, I really like the automatic tool-changing capability, larger work surface, 4th axis capability, and the multiple materials that can be milled. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, IG posts, and Discord chats to bash together an initial, satisfactory workflow to go from designing a circuit board in Flux.ai to laying out the toolpaths in CopperCAM, and finally milling the board with the Makera Carvera Controller app via gcode. Hope this helps, and constructive feedback is always appreciated! Check back often for revisions!
