In today’s episode, I’m diving into something that I discovered about a year ago and have been completely obsessed with ever since – Seasons Theory. This concept, which I stumbled upon on TikTok, has been a real game-changer for me, and I can’t wait to share it with you
Actionable Steps:
1.Write Your Script: Spend some time writing a detailed script for the next three months of your life, focusing on the positive aspects and goals you want to achieve.
2.Create a Mood Board: Visualize your desired life with a mood board, using tools like Pinterest or AI-generated imagery.
3.Embody Your Script: Start living your script in small ways every day, aligning your actions with the life you want to create.
I’d love to see how you’re embodying the Seasons Theory! Please share your scripts and mood boards with me via DM. Tell me what the next best version of you is going to be doing and how you’re living your TV show main character life.

In this episode of The Fashion Photography Show, I'm sharing the ultimate game changer that revolutionized my financial dealings as a fashion photographer: estimates. I'll dive into why using estimates transformed my career, how they facilitate clear communication with clients, and provide practical steps for incorporating them into your business.
Introduction to Estimates:
What is an Estimate?:
Understand what an estimate is: a detailed quote that breaks down the costs of a shoot, similar to an invoice but without requesting payment upfront.
Benefits of Using Estimates:
Clarity for Clients: Breaking down costs helps clients understand where their money is going, making it easier for them to accept your fees.
Practical Steps to Implement Estimates:
Creating a Sustainable Business Model: Set prices that reflect your value and cover all costs.
Resources:
I’m offering a free estimate template available through the podcast link, along with bonus training on how to use it effectively.
In this episode of The Fashion Photography Show, I’m tackling the myth of the starving artist. This belief has been romanticized for far too long, holding many fashion photographers back in their businesses and personal lives. We'll dive into why this stereotype persists and how you can break free from it to build a thriving, sustainable career.
Introduction to the Starving Artist Myth:
Why the Myth Persists:
Cultural influences, romanticized notions of suffering for art, and misconceptions about creativity and financial success.
Personal Experience:
I share my own struggles with the starving artist mentality and how it affected my career and well-being.
Overcoming the Starving Artist Belief:
Mindset Change: Recognize that you deserve to be well-paid for your work and set clear financial goals.
Actionable Steps:
Create a Sustainable Business Model: Set prices that reflect the value of your work and cover your costs.
Wrapping Up:
The starving artist mentality is a myth. By recognizing it and taking steps to overcome it, you can build a thriving career as a fashion photographer.
In this episode of The Fashion Photography Show, I’m diving into the all-important topic of money blocks and how they impact us as fashion photographers. We'll explore those pesky psychological barriers that hold us back from financial success and chat about practical steps to overcome them.
This is the first episode in our new series focused on money mindset and financial strategies for us creatives.
Introduction to Money Blocks:
Common Money Blocks:
Some of the common money blocks we’ll cover include:
Personal Experience:
I’ll share a bit of my own story, like how I believed for years that women didn’t make money and how that affected my career.
Practical Steps to Overcome Money Blocks:
Awareness: Start by writing down your current beliefs about money and really questioning them.
Positive Money Mindset:
We’ll also talk about the good money beliefs you might already have and how to reinforce them.
Actionable Exercise:
Grab a pen and paper, pause the episode if you need to, and jot down your money beliefs. Let’s challenge and reframe them together.
Resources:
I’m sharing a free estimate template with you all, available through the podcast link. It includes a bonus training to help you use it effectively.
Next week, I’ll be back with another episode all about money – stay tuned for more tips and personal stories that can help shift your financial mindset and boost your career. Can’t wait to dive in with you all again soon!
It's been a while since I shared how I'm using social media these days... so here's an update! With an ever-evolving landscape, here’s a snapshot of what's covered in the episode
I would love to hear how you're leveraging social media for your own goals!

This weeks' podcast episode is unusual, in that I recorded it whilst out in the woods walking my dog. I had an idea, grabbed my phone, and recorded it as a voice memo. That's why the audio is not as good as usual... but think of it as a voice note from me to you!
It can be so hard to know where the balance shoot be between creative flow, impulse, and planning. How do you get a good balance of one or the other?
I'm hoping that this short and sweet episode will help to answer that question for you.

Welcome to another exciting episode of "It Starts With A Click," your trusted resource for fashion photographers striving to build a profitable, creative, and holistic business. I'm your host, Olivia Bossert, and today, we're diving into a treasure trove of questions from our followers, all about pitching to brands. I'll provide insights, strategies, and answers to help you navigate the world of pitching effectively.
Question 1: Getting Started with Brand Collaborations
Q: "I've never had the chance to create an advertising campaign or paid content for brands yet. Who should I contact to propose myself as a photographer? Who are the figures who choose the photographers to hire for their productions?"
Question 2: Crafting Persuasive Pitch Emails
Q: "How do I convince, through an email, that I am the right person to hire as a photographer?"
Question 3: Dealing with Non-Responsive Brands
Q: "How do you handle situations where brands don't respond, even when your portfolio aligns with their style? And what do you do when they don't even reply to your offers for free collaborations?"
Question 4: Local vs. Global Brand Targeting
Q: "Should I stick to brands in my area or is it realistic to target brands from different countries? Even world-wide brands?"
Question 5: Protecting Your Pitch Ideas
Q: "Ever had the problem that a client used your pitch but gave it to another photographer, who basically did the same style/location/mood? Is there a way to avoid this? How do you deal with this scenario?"
Question 6: Assessing Your Pitch-Readiness
Q: "How do I know my work is good enough for pitching?"
Question 7: Pitching Frequency and Approach
Q: "What is a good average amount of emails to send a week? Is it different for brands and magazines?"
Question 8: Breaking Into Magazine Shoots
Q: "I pitched a few shooting concepts to magazines this year, but I have a feeling that they don't take me seriously because I haven't shot for any magazine before. How can I land a shoot with a mag, if no one hires me?"
Question 9: Overcoming Initial Resistance
Q: "But no one wants even a free shoot with me, not even after a follow-up mail. How can I get some names in my brand list if they don't even want a free shoot?"
Question 10: Timing Your Pitches
Q: "Are there best months to pitch?"
Question 11: Standing Out Amongst Competition
Q: "How do you show your value and stand out to fashion brands that already have an arsenal of photographers on payroll or contracts?"
Question 12: Pitching via Instagram Messages
Q: "Is it okay to use the same email pitch to a brand via Instagram message? (if the brand was a small business) or should it be shorter than an email pitch?"
In this episode, I tackle these burning questions, providing actionable advice and strategies to help you become a pitching pro. Whether you're just starting or looking to enhance your pitching game, you'll find valuable insights to kickstart your journey. Stay tuned and keep those questions coming!

Welcome to another exciting episode of "It Starts With A Click," where we unravel the secrets to building a profitable, creative, and holistic fashion photography business. I'm your host, Olivia Bossert, and today, we're delving into the art of setting goals and making them not just achievable but transformative.
The Analogy: Your Journey Without a Destination
Imagine embarking on a walk without a clear destination in mind. You wander aimlessly, and after an hour, you realize you're nowhere near where you intended to be. This scenario perfectly parallels goal setting. Without clear goals, it's like leaving your house without knowing where you want to go. The result? Frustration and disappointment when you don't arrive at your desired destination.
The Power of Setting Clear Goals
Setting clear goals is the compass that guides your journey. It's about deciding where you want to go, so you know exactly how to get there and what steps you need to take. Don't set goals "just because." Ask yourself, "Why do I want to achieve this particular goal?" Knowing your 'why' provides motivation and direction.
The Why Behind Financial Goals
When it comes to financial goals, it's insufficient to set a target amount of money. Instead, think about what that money represents. What will achieving that financial goal allow you to do? Give your money a purpose, an end goal. Money is abstract, but you can easily visualize what you would do with it.
Money with Purpose
Let's say you aim to earn £10,000. Rather than fixating on the abstract figure, visualize what that money would do for you. Perhaps it allows you to invest in new photography equipment, take a dream vacation, or contribute to a cause you're passionate about. Attach meaning to your financial goals, and you'll find the motivation and discipline to work towards them.
In this episode, we've learned that setting goals isn't just about knowing where you're going, but also understanding why you want to get there. It's about giving your goals purpose and direction, making them tangible and achievable. So, fashion photographers, it's time to set your sights high, with clear goals that will guide you on your journey to success.

In Episode 3 of "It Starts With A Click," I delve into the profound impact of fashion photography and how it serves the world. Join me, Olivia Bossert, as I share my personal journey of realizing the significance of my work and how being a fashion photographer goes beyond capturing pretty images.
For a long time, I struggled to see how my photography was of any real service to the world. It felt frivolous, merely taking pictures of beautiful people in stunning clothing. However, as I began to introspect and break down my purpose, I came to understand the immense value my craft brings to individuals and businesses alike.
At its core, fashion photography is an art form that celebrates beauty and adds to the world's abundance of art and creativity. It serves as a reminder of the importance of beauty and aesthetics in our lives, which has a profound impact on our well-being and sense of joy.
Beyond art, fashion photography plays a crucial role in helping businesses thrive. By creating compelling imagery, we assist brands in effectively selling their products and attracting customers. Our work directly contributes to providing jobs and supporting countless individuals involved in the fashion industry.
It's essential to recognize the intrinsic value of what we do as fashion photographers. We have the power to uplift others, inspire creativity, and make a difference. By acknowledging the significance of our work, we find a greater sense of purpose and motivation to keep pushing forward.
Every creative endeavor you undertake, every project you bring to life, and every image you capture adds to the beauty and enrichment of our world. Your art holds value, and it serves as a testament to the importance of creativity and aesthetics in our lives.
Remember, you have a duty to continue creating and making a positive impact. By showing up, reaching out, and doing the work, you contribute to the greater good and positively influence others. Embrace your greatness and recognize the power you hold to make a difference in the lives of others.

In this exciting episode of "It Starts With A Click," I delve into the unique choices and practices that set me apart as a fashion photographer. Join me as I share how embracing my individuality has allowed me to build a fulfilling and unconventional career. Discover why I choose not to worry about Instagram followers, forgo having an agent, shoot consistently every week, thrive outside of a big city, indulge my love for travel, and diversify my income sources beyond photography.
In a world where social media often dictates success, I challenge the traditional notion of focusing on Instagram followers. Instead, I prioritize pitching, and putting my efforts into other, more useful forms of marketing. I'll reveal the strategies I use to grow genuine relationships with clients who truly appreciate my work.
While many fashion photographers seek representation through an agent, I'll explain why I've chosen to navigate my career independently. I'll discuss the benefits of maintaining creative control and how taking the reins has allowed me to shape my brand and pursue projects that align with my vision, whilst protecting my time and space.
Contrary to the trend of gravitating towards big cities, I'll shed light on the advantages of living outside the bustling urban centres. My experiences will demonstrate how being in the countryside has not hindered my growth as a fashion photographer, but rather offered unique opportunities and a more balanced lifestyle.
Travel is something I enjoy, but contrary to most photographers, is not what I desire for my business. I discuss why I’m not interested in travelling for work.
Furthermore, I'll address the misconception that photography must be the sole income stream for a fashion photographer. By diversifying my revenue sources, I've built a sustainable and stable business.
Join me on this episode as I challenge conventional norms and offer a fresh perspective on thriving as a fashion photographer by embracing authenticity, independence, consistency, and a diverse approach to income.

Surprise! I’m back with one more bonus episode for season 3. This week, I’m chatting to Ian Hippolyte, a London based fashion photographer who at the age of just 22 already runs his own photo studio. Hanna is a fashion and beauty photographer based in London and LA, and she shares everything she knows about whether photographers should have agents or not, how to DM brands to get hired, how to go full time, and her best tips on how to shoot beauty.
Todays episode is a rehashing of one of my most popular blog posts: 5 Steps To Getting Hired By A Brand. I wrote this blog post quite a few years ago, and although most of what in it is still what I'd recommend today, I've learnt a lot since I wrote it!

This weeks episode is full of insane knowledge bombs! Fashion and travel photography Lydia Collins and I have the best chat about her career.
This episode is a bit different, but I really wanted to chat about this topic, because I feel like I speak to so many photographers who feel like things are taking too long, or that they're not progressing fast enough, or they're never going to make it because they've been working hard for 6 months and seeing no results.
The truth is that this career is a long term game. It takes time, and you need to willing to put in the work day after day, year after year.
Listen in to find out why.
Karin Majoka is a film photographer and youtuber. Listen to our chat about all things film photography!
This week I've focused on the importance of self care for photographers. I think we talk SO much about working hard, shooting as much as we can, pushing forward all the time... that we forget how important it is to recharge as well.
Welcome back to Season 3 of It Starts With A Click! I'm so excited to be back with another season, and I'm kicking it off with a bit of reflection on 5 of the biggest lessons I learnt from being put into lockdown because of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic.
This weeks episode is with the amazing Zoe Noble! Zoe is a beauty and product photographer based in Berlin, Germany. She shares with us in this episode:
how to improve your beauty photography
how to learn and master lighting your images
how to get published in major magazines
and so much more…
One of the biggest questions that I get asked is whether or not it is possible to be a successful fashion photographer from a small town or village. Listen to the episode to find out how you can make it work.
Karen Rosalie is a fashion and beauty photographer based in LA. She is the founder of Rosalie Agency, a creative agency which produces photo and video campaigns for beauty brands. This episode is great, and filled with loads of amazing tips on how to use social media, particularly Instagram to market yourself to brands and businesses that you’d like to work with. She also goes into loads of depth on how to get into shooting product and how to master lighting for products. I hope you enjoy listening!
I'm really excited about this episode because it's with one of my best friends in the whole world, Georgina Yates. In this episode we chat about: - what makes being on set pleasant for a make up artist? - What a make up artist needs from a photographer? - How make up artists like to be approached? - Best practices and a whole lot more!
This week's episode of It Starts With A Click is with Kyle Galvin, a commercial fashion photographer based in London. Kyle and I have known each other for years, and he's built a real name for himself in the commercial photography world. He's probably best known for the work that he does with influencers.
If you've listened to season one then you'll probably remember Holly McGlynn. (If you haven't then go listen to that episode!). Holly is back, this time to chat about portfolio reviews, why they're so important, and what we can all be doing right now as fashion photographers during the Coronavirus Crisis.
Grace and I met during the summer when she approached me about assisting me on shoots. We met for a coffee, had a chat, and got on really well.
