In the past week, the City has received 11 complaints of people harassing whales. The City has its very own pod of Common Hippo's that has called the Rondevlei section of the False Bay Nature Reserve home since 1981. They are currently planning the relocation of a young male to protect him from the pod’s dominant male. NSRI Clanwilliam Dam lifeguards, while on patrol in an area of the dam that does not have lifeguards on duty, were alerted by public members to a drowning in progress. Lifeguards immediately initiated a free dive search for a 21 year old female, from Umtata, reported to have disappeared under water, while swimming with family members, only a few minutes prior to the NSRI lifeguards arrival on the scene. Sadly this story didn't end well...

Freedom of Religion South Africa (FOR SA) has written to the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to request clarification on the Directions relating to Norms and Standards for Religious Gatherings issued on 28 May 2020. The letter thanks Government for rightly considering the submissions and proposals made by the religious community (including FOR SA, who made submissions on behalf of religious leaders and organisations representing approx. 15,5 million people from a broad cross-spectrum of denominations, churches and religious organisations, including African Spirituality and Indigenous Churches). In terms of the Level 3 Regulations, religious buildings have been permitted to open, thereby allowing the administrative offices of churches and religious organisations to operate again. The Directions also permit, subject to stringent social distancing and health / sanitization protocols, the re-opening of places of worship for gatherings of no more than 50 people.
