Viewing the World Through the Word

In the last year I have picked up a new habit: writing opinion pieces.

In this episode I briefly review the art of writing and how to crush writer’s block by keeping your “talking” and “editing” functions from fighting each other.

I present four reasons to consider writing opinion pieces:

  1. More exposure
  2. Doable goals
  3. Writing craft development
  4. Preparation for a book

Then, I summarize five opinion pieces I pitched and had published in other venues since the episode “The Write Habit” was released.

My recent opinion pieces:

Periodical: The American Spectator

“Planned Parenthood’s Founder Fought Against Abortion“

“Trump, Constantine, and the Politics of Providence“

Periodical: Across Voices

“Russell Kirk Warned About the Fall of England“

Periodical: The Reformed Conservative

“Russell Kirk Warned About the Fall of England” (republish)

Periodical: American Thinker

“The Dangerous Allure of Being a Government Influencer“

“Is our border a game of red rover?“

This episode is part 40 and the final episode in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers the books of 4 Nephi, Mormon, Wisdom of Mormon, and Moroni. As prophesied, the Nephite people remained righteous until around 200 A.D. Schisms and pride caused the church to split. Lamanites restored their former identity. Gadianton robbers somehow became a thing again.

A young man named Mormon led the Nephites to some pyrrhic victories, but he couldn’t get the Nephites to repent of their pride and wickedness. Both sides agreed to a final battle at Cumorah around 385 A.D. The Lamanites slaughtered all but a few Nephites from the army. The Lamanites took control of the whole land and oppressed the remaining Nephites. Mormon’s son Moroni hid his father’s abridged plates in a hill at Cumorah for future readers. Moroni’s brief book has mostly records of church doctrines including a letter from Mormon harshly condemning infant baptism.

After examining Moroni 10:32 for “impossible salvation” then “Moroni’s challenge” in Moroni 10:4 to see how Mormon missionaries use it to try to get converts through a subjective experience. Finally, I close the series by reflecting on the lack of historical evidence for the Book of Mormon and how its transmission was fundamentally different from how we have the Bible.

This episode is part 39 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 19-30 of the book of 3 Nephi. The Mormon Jesus teaches his disciples more about prayer. He prays away from them, with them, and at them, and they all glow bright white.

The Mormon Jesus also gives more prophecy about the end times, the revealing of the Book of Mormon, and the regathering of Israel and the descendants of Lehi. He gave them Isaiah chapters 52 and 54 and Malachi chapters 3-4. Three of the twelve disciples get a special gift of immortality until the end. Supposedly they and the Apostle John are still out there somewhere walking among us, but harder to find even than Bigfoot.

In this episode of Truthspresso I chat about Jesus and socialism.

A coworker a while ago made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 12 we look at the account of Mary, sister of Martha, anointing Jesus with expensive perfume for His burial. Jesus’ disciples murmured about the “waste,” and Judas Iscariot suggested that it should have been sold and given to the poor. Jesus, knowing Judas was a thief, answered in a way that a politician might think was calloused and insensitive.

Looking at recent arguments from politicians that sound like Judas’ question, I observe what I term “Judas Iscariot socialists.” The Judas question repeats itself in modern political posturing and virtue signaling.

This episode is part 38 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 14-18 of the book of 3 Nephi. The Mormon Jesus finishes his version of the Sermon on the Mount for the 2,500 Nephites gathered at the temple in the Land Bountiful. Then, he explains that he will gather the “other sheep” into the one fold, which includes these people and the ten lost tribes of Israel. The people don’t understand much, but Jesus heals their sick among them. Then, angels come and minister to the young children.

The Mormon Jesus says that he will return to the Father soon. Just like he explained the valid method of baptism, he then institutes the sacrament: the Lord’s Supper. He admonishes them to watch and pray and how to handle unrepentant people in the churches. Finally, the people are to return to their homes to ponder his teachings and he would return to see them the next day.

This episode is part 37 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 12-13 of the book of 3 Nephi. Jesus had appeared to the surviving Nephites gathered at a temple in the Land Bountiful. The Mormon Jesus gave his opening lecture the included a formula for baptism.

Now, the Mormon Jesus begins to teach a version of the Sermon on the Mount that strongly parallels Matthew chapters 5-7. This episode covers the part that follows chapters 5 and 6. We look at subtle differences but also things retained from the Sermon on the Mount that don’t seem to make much sense for ancient America. Some things had such a cultural context that I wonder if these Nephites would even know what the Mormon Jesus was talking about.

On May 6th my son and I testified on the Colorado Senate floor (online) against HB26-1335 (“Concerning Access to Abortion Medication Services on Colorado College Campuses”). This law requires colleges and universities (without a religious exemption) to make abortion drugs available on campus to any student who asks for a prescription.

I first cover Colorado abortion laws from 2022-2025 to show how we got to this point. Then, I play clips of our testimonies against the bill. Finally, I play a testimony from an unhinged guy in support of the bill.

This episode is part 36 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 11 of the book of 3 Nephi. The surviving righteous people gather outside a temple in the land Bountiful and recollect their recent experiences. Suddenly, a voice from heaven says something twice but they don’t understand it. The third time a voice says something that sounds like God the Father at Jesus’ baptism. Then, Jesus in a white garment descends from the sky and lands among the people.

Jesus tells the people who he is and invites them to feel the wounds in his resurrected body. Then, he teaches them the correct form of baptism so that there would be no disputations among his followers. Let’s see what the Jesus of the Book of Mormon says that sounds similar to verses in the New Testament and what sounds like intentional edits.

This episode is part 35 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 1-10 of the book of 3 Nephi. The Nephites and Lamanites see the sign of Christ’s birth in the sky. The Gadianton robbers threaten to take over the land and destroy all the people. The Nephites and Lamanites conglomerate into an area of Zarahemla for protection with plenty of supplies. The Gadianton robbers struggle with the now desolate lands but try to scare the people. The people fight back and drive the Gadiantons back and eventually get total victory. The Gadiantons who refuse to repent are executed. The ones that convert are released and find settlement.

After some peace, a sect of people wanting a monarchy kill the new chief judge. The fallout causes the people to split the land into tribes. The monarchy supporters anoint a king and try to get dissenters from the tribes. Eventually, the sign of Christ’s death ravages the land in darkness and natural disasters that kill many people and wreck cities. Toward the end of the three days of darkness a voice from heaven says he is Jesus Christ and explains the destruction but offers hope. The voice says some things we would recognize from the gospel accounts, but also borrows from New Testament epistles that would not have been written yet.

As you likely know, Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

In this episode I give a little tribute as I recall how I discovered what happened and how it affected me.

Seeing the sheer number of bloodthirsty banshees on the legacy media and on social media callously celebrating Charlie Kirk’s violent and untimely death is indeed disturbing.

I believe this tragedy could be the catalyst for a long overdue revival in the United States, even around the world.

This episode is part 23 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 11-13 of the book of Alma. Alma and Amulek continue their confrontation with the people of Ammonihah. A chief lawyer Zeezrom tries to bribe Amulek to deny the existence of God, but Amulek sniffs out his plot. Zeezrom asks Amulek questions and Amulek’s answers leave him trembling. Alma seizes on the moment to preach another sermon to the people.

In this episode we learn about Nephite money and Melchizedek priesthood with a bit of modalism thrown in for good measure.

This episode covers chapters 6-10 of the book of Alma. Alma, now without his office of chief judge, becomes a traveling evangelist. He preaches to the church in the city in the valley of Gideon, who seemed to fare better than the church in the city of Zarahemla.

Alma then tried to preach to the city of Ammonihah, but they threw him out. An angel eventually told him to go back. When he arrived, he met a guy named Amulek who took care of him for a while. Then, the two of them preached to the people of Ammonihah. The people and their lawyers do not appear to be receptive so far.

This episode covers chapters 1-5 of the book of Alma. Under the new “reign of the judges” the Nephites in Zarahemla find prosperity, but also growing problems of heresies. First, a prosperity preacher named Nehor kills a guy and faces death. Then, a guy named Amlici gets a huge following and creates the Amlicites.

The Amlicites join forces with the Lamanites and fight the Nephites several times. Although the Nephites are victories, they have to lick their wounds. The church grows stronger but some lose their humility. Alma the Elder preaches a sermon that reeks of American revivalism and, of course, plagiarized passages from the New Testament.

This episode is part 20 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon.

This episode covers chapters 25-29 of the book of Mosiah, finishing the book. The people of Zarahemla and some of the people of Nephi are united. Alma baptizes King Limhi and others. The land prospers, but the new generation of young adults lead people astray. Alma gets God’s encouragement to judge the sinners and seek their repentance.

Eventually, another rebellion happens to persecute the church. King Mosiah makes that illegal. Alma’s son Alma and King Mosiah’s four sons try to “destroy the church of God.” They have a “road to Damascus experience” that turns them into missionaries.

King Mosiah is getting older but can’t get a successor. He proposes a constitutional republic complete with federalism and democratic elections instead. The people love this new idea. The age of the judges will now begin.

The record of Zeniff tells of the fate of King Noah and his priests as Alma and his church hide in the desert. Noah’s son Limhi succeeds as king of the Nephites. King Noah’s priests capture some Lamanite women and cause unnecessary angst between the Lamanites and the Nephites. Eventually, Limhi and his people escape Lamanite oppression to Zarahemla. Later, Alma and his church find their way to Zarahemla as well. At this point, it appears that the people of Nephi and the people of Zarahemla have become united.

After my coworker more than once mocked lawns as a useless product of European colonialism, and after I recently saw a meme online blaming lawns for people starving, I figured I should tackle this topic.

There is a recent anti-lawn movement in America. Backed by socialism and identity politics, it claims you should feel guilty about mowing and watering your grass carpet for barbecues and yard games. You’re harming the environment and wasting resources!

Whatever the merits or demerits of using your land for crops or meadow wildflowers, I present some arguments for why you don’t have to feel guilty over your grass.

Dr. Owen Anderson, Head Pastor of Christ the King Reformed Church and professor of philosophy and religious studies at Arizona State University joins me to talk about his latest book Samson: a Biblical Hero.

We have been taught in sermons and Sunday School to treat Samson as just a deeply flawed and naive man full of lust and ego. Dr. Anderson explains that, despite Samson’s imperfections, we may be reading between the lines to accuse him of things he may not have done.

Dr. Anderson argues that a Biblical understanding of Samson as a strong and humble hero points to Christ. Rather than blindly follow influencers like Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate who may resemble more the mixed bag stereotype of Samson we’ve been taught, Dr. Anderson teaches that Christian young men should see the Biblical Samson himself as a better role model.

In this episode of Truthspresso I chat about Jesus and socialism.

A coworker a while ago made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 11 we look at three parables to see if they lean more socialist or free market capitalist:

  1. The hidden treasure in the field
  2. The pearl of great price
  3. The vineyard tenants

Because the parable of the vineyard tenants is Jesus’ ultimate parable about the history of Israel, one would think the illustration would be important. The vineyard owner took risks, set up capital equipment, and established a business. The vineyard laborers seemed to prefer a violent revolution and to take over ownership of the vineyard. This very “capitalist” illustration seemed to indict the rebellious Israelites for crucifying Jesus in ways that resembled modern Marxist actions.

In this episode of Truthspresso I chat about Jesus and socialism.

A coworker a while ago made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 10 we look at the parable of the unjust steward. A “Christian socialist” claims that this parable proves that Jesus favors defrauding wealthy people to give to the poor. While this parable and Jesus’ application can be hard to understand at first, closer study reveals that Jesus wants us to be good stewards of money unlike His worldly examples–including both the merchant and his unjust steward.

After I dropped off my sons for a church youth activity I recorded most of this episode in my car in the parking lot.

I shared a few thoughts mostly about the march on Monday afternoon before the opening speeches.

Women dressed as abortion pills, pro-Palestine protesters, rainbow flags, and a sign that says “Trump and J.D. Vance are weird” donned the street.

During the first two days of the DNC, a mobile clinic offered free chemical abortions for women and vasectomies for men. Outside the center was a giant inflatable IUD. Inside the building was a display of giant inflatable abortion pills. Several speakers emphasized abortion as a fundamental right necessary for freedom.

Is there a reason not to consider the modern Democrat Party a “Molech cult”?

As I was reading stuff online I came across an article from Roman Catholic apologist Dave Armstrong against William Lane Craig’s defense of monothelitism.

Armstrong blames Craig’s error on Sola Scriptura and rejecting the “infallibility” of the Roman Catholic church.

While I agree that Craig is wrong about monothelitism, I also believe Armstrong is wrong about why.

This episode addresses both the error of monothelitism and the error of Roman Catholic epistemology. I believe Craig’s philosophy is the problem. I also believe history disproves Armstrong’s “infallible church” idea and that Scripture is the authority for determining who Jesus is.

Romans 2:13 says that “the doers of the law shall be justified.”

Romans 3:20 says that “by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified.”

Did Paul teach justification by keeping the law?

Did Paul contradict himself?

Chelsea returns to co-host this episode as we summarize Paul’s arguments in Romans chapter 1 through 3. We believe Paul was making one harmonizing point with both verses.

May 30, 2024 is a day that will live in infamy! Donald Trump became the first former President of the United States to be brought to court on felony charges and have a jury reach a verdict of guilty. Not to mention that this happened while he is currently running for President again and is the highest polling candidate.

The ripple effects of this historical day will be felt indefinitely. The debates will rage over whether or not this was justice or merely political lawfare.

In part 5,we cover the instructions from Judge Merchan to the jury for how to deliberate. Most of the instructions were standard fare. However, the section detailing the charges raised serious questions in my mind.

The charges were 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree to conceal the crime of conspiracy to promote an election by unlawful means. Each juror could determine anonymously if the “unlawful means” was one or more of the following:

  1. FECA violation (campaign contributions above the federal limit)
  2. falsifying other business records
  3. tax violations (by paying Cohen extra money to cover income taxes)

Falsifying business records alone is a misdemeanor.

Conspiracy to promote an election by unlawful means is a misdemeanor.

The maximum sentence for all 34 charges is 136 years in prison because Trump allegedly paid for an alleged crime in 11 installments.

The jury found Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts. A lot has happened since then. Sentencing has moved to September 18th.

In part 4,we cover the defense witnesses–such as they were. Trump decided not to testify. The judge’s restrictions prevented a campaign finance law expert witness from testifying. After one paralegal briefly showed a chart, Robert Costello was the remaining witness.

Costello’s testimony resulted in the judge almost throwing out his testimony. Shenanigans or court decorum? You decide.

Finally, the trial ended with closing arguments: Todd Blanche for the defense went first, and Joshua Steinglass for the prosecution followed. After a long day, the court adjourned for deliberation the next day.

We have heard the saying that the two most certain things are death and taxes. Rarely do governments repeal any of the many taxes they impose.

However, a bunch of politicians in Congress and some in the Senate want to “repeal” a certain “tax” as a matter of social justice. This “tax” is the so-called “pink tax.”

Because women may pay more on average for certain products and services than men, activists call this extra expense the “pink tax.” Congress has proposed the “Pink Tax Repeal Act” for the fifth time! Perhaps they will finally “repeal” the “pink tax.”

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey has studies showing female products with higher prices than similar non-female products. Is this because companies like to oppress women and gouge them for more money?

In this episode we look at some products and services to see if there aren’t other explanations for why prices can differ.

We observe King Ahab whining that Naboth won’t sell him a particular vineyard at the price Ahab offered as a Biblical example for why Christians shouldn’t fall for victim mentality schemes like the “pink tax.”

The “pink tax” is not a tax, and we don’t need a law with chilling effects to “repeal” it.

Looking at the recent “pro-Palestine” protesters taking over college campuses and setting up tent encampments, I observe their strange an nuanced demands.

Many of the protesters don’t even know why they’re protesting!

The reason these college kids oppose Israel and “support Palestine” seems not because they’re intrinsically antisemitic, but because they’ve been indoctrinated with cultural Marxism.

Cultural Marxism and any other manifestation of Marxism is destructive and degrading. The solution is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

April 1, 2024 was no April Fool’s Day for many fast food workers in California. When a new law went into effect promising a $20 minimum wage for fast workers, many found themselves worse off. Slashed hours or even laid off, young people felt betrayed by pipe dream politics.

The law included a controversial carve out that benefits some food chains at the expense of others. And laws like California’s updated FAST Recovery Act devastate the people they proport to help.

Is a coercive minimum wage even a Biblical concept? Especially one far above what employers and young employees would naturally agree on? The Bible strongly supports covenants and keeping one’s promises. Jesus’ parable of the vineyard workers explains that wage agreements are valid, and that graciously paying more is the owner’s discretion. Political middlemen need not apply.

In an interview on April 1, Richard Dawkins gave an “Easter message” in an interview.

Expressing his concern about the spread of Islam in the UK, Dawkins called himself a “cultural Christian.” He likes to live in a “Christian culture” but he is “not a believer” and doesn’t “believe a word of the Christian faith.”

While some claim this is a “change” from Dawkins’ past, I remain skeptical.

Let’s look at some verses in the Bible to see if claiming to be a “cultural Christian” makes one a “Christian” in any meaningful way.

Christ is King!

This statement has become controversial in the last week. Instead of arguing over the politics of it, I talk about the doctrines of Jesus Christ that make Him king:

  1. Christ is King because of the Trinity
  2. Christ is King because of the Incarnation (which depends on the Trinity)
  3. Christ is King because of substitutionary atonement (which depends on the incarnation)
  4. Christ is King because of the resurrection (which depends on substitutionary atonement)

I talk about how some current news items reflect an unbiblical crusade against the intuitions of human nature.

We all know the Ten Commandments make perfect sense for both personal virtue and a flourishing society. However, we also recognize how the Fall of man tempts us to yield to base desires.

The philosophies of world that we see all around us in the news try to subject the human nature that reflects the image of God to the whims of base desires. They try make people fight over who gets to satisfy their own base desires at the expense of others.

We should not lose heart as we know our labor is not in vain, and Jesus Christ as the law giver will return and set things straight.

I go “solo” in this episode, but I have a virtual companion for some of the episode.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) engines may offer us untold potential for productivity. However, if used for political control of news and research, they could cause chilling effects.

First, we look at how Google Gemini’s “diversity” pictures caused backlash and blunted the success of its debut. Meta’s AI also showed similar problems.

Then, I ask Google Gemini some questions about its past, some philosophy, and some theology. What can AI tell us about the Christian Podcast Community and the Truthspresso podcast?

Finally, I test Gemini’s creativity to write some poems about Truthspresso.

A sonnet about Truthspresso:

A shot of faith, a podcast sharp and bold,

Truthspresso wakes the mind with themes untold.

From lofty questions of the heavens above

To earthly matters, economics, and love,

It stirs the soul, a brew both strong and keen,

A Christian lens on life’s perplexing scene.

With Mynyk’s voice, perhaps, to guide the way,

It probes the depths on this truth-seeking day.

So put on hold the music and the news,

This mental coffee table’s set for you.

Let Truthspresso ignite a sacred spark,

And fill your cup with knowledge from the dark.

A podcast brew, both faithful and sincere,

To warm the heart and chase away all fear.

A limerick about Truthspresso:

A Christian named Dan, Truthspresso’s the man,

On faith, life, and politics he spins a yarn.

He dives deep in thought,

With knowledge he’s fraught,

A shot of espresso to brighten your morn.

A haiku about Truthspresso:

Truth in coffee cup,

Mynyk’s voice wakes the faithful mind,

Faithful knowledge blooms.

On February 20, 2024, The Alabama Supreme Court in the case James LePage, et al. v. The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Mobile Infirmary Association ruled in favor of the plaintiffs who suffered a loss of their frozen offspring as a result of an accident at a fertility clinic.

The issue now is what happens to in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the state of Alabama? The state House and Senate both passed emergency bills to protect current IVF treatments while not challenging the ruling.

What is the most consistent pro-life position on this issue?

Is it possible to practice a form of IVF that attempts to be 100% pro-life?

Chelsea and I discuss important sections of the ruling, a concurring opinion, and the dissenting option, and ask and answer questions about IVF.

Disclaimer: we talk about some gruesome details of abortion procedures and results.

In March of 2022 the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising group obtained five bodies of babies possibly birth-sized babies in a box of 115 aborted bodies destined for processing as “medical waste.”

For two years D.C. has claimed to investigate if the “D.C. five” were killed illegally (as opposed to killed legally).

As the Biden administration has attempted to dispose these bodies, pro-life groups and members of Congress are fighting to keep the baby bodies available and force a real investigation.

Is Washington, D.C. trying to cover up full-blown infanticide?

Well, we believe all abortion results in “infanticide,” but how far does this culture of death go in the sacred halls of the greatest nation on earth?

Once again a multimillion-dollar campaign called “He Gets Us” aired an ad during the Super Bowl.

The ad presented a slide show of people often at political odds washing one another’s feet. Well, usually it was the “conservative” washing the feet of the “liberal.”

It ended with “Jesus didn’t preach hate. He washed feet.”

What does the Bible saying about foot washing?

What does the “He Gets Us” campaign get right in the ad and its website, and what may it get wrong?

Could a campaign focused on disarming social issues lure people into becoming disciples of Jesus?

No Christian podcast worth its salt can avoid answering the all-important question: just who were those Nephilim, anyway?

Chelsea and I present the first of three popular theories about the Nephilim: that they are the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

Theories about the Nephilim seem to depend on who were “the sons of God” and “the daughters of men” in Genesis chapter 6.

Following the War for Independence the colonies now had a federal compact. The expansion westward inspired more evangelism to native Americans. Methodism grew as circuit riders preached to crowds at outdoor “camp meetings.”The two social causes propelling revival “fires” were abolition of slavery and temperance from alcohol. Women were more involved in revival activities and organized some women’s groups around these two issues.Immigrants from Europe brought more rationalism from the Enlightenment. Wheras the majority of First Great Awakening revivalists held to a Reformed theology, most of the Second Great Awakening revivalists did not.Industry

In this REWIND episode of Truthspresso I combine two episodes into one! This is my full interview with Jamal Bandy, the host of the Prescribed Truth podcast on the Christian Podcast Community.

Part 1: Jamal tells his story of how he was involved in an Apostolic Oneness church and how unexpected events led him to question what he was taught.

Jamal learns the truth about God as Trinity and that the Oneness teaching is wrong. He also learns that works don’t save him and don’t keep him saved, because the Father and the Son secure him.

Part 2: Jamal explains what “social justice” and “critical theory” are as elements of Marxist philosophy. The word “race” has been added to make “critical race theory” an issue of U.S. history.

Jamal gives some heartfelt and keen insights into misunderstood realities of both the present and the past that are often fuel for ethnic politics.

With family visiting and celebrating birthdays and no time to study to record a new episode, I dug up a recording from 2009, months after my wife and I were married.

At this time my father-in-law was leading a Bible study with the family and an older couple who would visit. I took two weeks to guest host it and teach on a topic I was studying at the time.

This was while the manuscript for my book Freedom To Give: The Biblical Truth About Tithing was in its infancy. The first week of this study covered the Old Testament passages about tithing. The second week covered mostly the New Testament passages.

I lost the recording for the first week. This episode is the second week. We recap some of what we talked about from the first week.

My conclusion is that most of what is taught as “tithing” today isn’t what the Bible teaches, and that it doesn’t teach that we are under any command to do this. The Bible does command us to give generously and cheerfully, but not according to mandatory “tithe” regimen.

Unfortunately, the audio quality is poor. I tried to amplify it and remove noise.

Chelsea and I continue our series about the Christian revivals in American history.

John Wesley was an Anglican minister from Epworth, England. He and his brother Charles went to Oxford where John got bachelor’s and master’s degrees. While teaching at Oxford, John and Charles Wesley began the “Methodist” movement with George Whitefield.

After spending two years evangelizing Native Americans in Savannah, Georgia, John Wesley returned to England wondering if he himself needed to be evangelized. After studying with a group of Moravians, Wesley finally understood justification by faith and peace with God.

Wesley and Whitefield helped each other with their new preaching method involving traveling and outdoors. Wesley preached an estimated 40,000 sermons before he passed.

Wesley seemed to be a pioneer in the Christian abolitionist movement to preach freedom for slaves. He also mentored William Wilberforce who would see success in ending the slave trade in England.

Fact correction from audio: We mistakenly said that Susanna Wesley disliked King James II. She actually favored James II but despised William of Orange who replaced him.

I go solo this week with a short study to answer the question “Is Jesus still in the flesh?”

Some who hold to Oneness theology may reason that Jesus dematerialized His resurrected, glorified body at His ascension because it makes more sense in a modalistic framework.

From the Scriptures we look at three points:

  1. Did Jesus shed His resurrected body at His ascension?
  2. Is Jesus presently a mediator and intercessor at the right hand of the Father?
  3. God reconciled to man forever implies Jesus is the God-Man forever.

Christ’s presence and roles now seem to demand that His resurrected body remain with Him forever.

Chelsea and I continue from last week’s discussion as news is quickly flying over the abortion pill and abortion pill reversal.

Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA.The question over the abortion pill mifepristone’s legitimacy in heads back down to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals after the Supreme Court stayed all lower decisions. Oral arguments are scheduled May 17.

Bella Health and Wellness v. Weiser. The question over the abortion pill reversal in Colorado now heads up to a federal district court. Immediately after Governor Polis signed three radical abortion bills, including the infamous SB23-190 that chills pregnancy centers and bans abortion pill reversal, Bella Health and Wellness, a Catholic non-profit group of three medical clinics filed a lawsuit: Bella Health and Wellness v. Weiser. Judge Daniel Domenico issues a temporary restraint on the law for Bella. The lawsuit claims the brand new law is unconstitutional on several levels.

Colorado executives and health agencies said they would not enforce the abortion pill reversal ban until October 1: a deadline for health agencies to give a thumbs up for the abortion pill reversal protocol. The Attorney General now claims that Bella has no standing to sue. But Bella naturally believes abortion pill reversal should be allowed for more than five mere months.

The day this episode airs, Judge Domenico is scheduled to hear oral arguments over if he should extend the restraint until a trial.

The battle over mifepristone (part of the abortion pill regimen) is heating up!

A federal district judge in Texas ruled in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA that the FDA illegally approved mifepristone in the year 2000.

At the same time a judge ruled in Washington State v. FDA that, for the 17 states in the suit and D.C., mifepristone must be available as it is.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the Texas ruling but ordered that the original, stricter requirements resume.

The DOJ, the FDA, and pro-abortionists don’t like either ruling and demand mifepristone be as available as possible for medication abortions. They now appeal to the Supreme Court.

Justice Alito ordered a stay on all rulings in this dispute and gave all sides until Tuesday to submit their case.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case on mifepristone Wednesday.

The battle lines are drawn loud and hard. Please pray for God’s working in this quickly evolving situation as the forces of life and death are ever more intense.

As the Apostle Paul faced trials before governments, he declared that his hope of the resurrection is why he is being accused of wrongdoing.

Christians today face ridicule and opposition because of this hope that we have.

The resurrection is a hope most glorious, but the world hates it because it challenges their focus on this life alone.

Chelsea and I conclude our coverage of Colorado’s three radical pro-abortion bills:SB23-188,SB23-189, andSB23-190.

Last week the Colorado House of Representatives debated and rammed through three radical dystopian pro-abortion bills along party lines with no amendments.

In short, the supporters want abortion on-demand at any time in pregnancy for any reason, and abortion providers are a new protected class of citizens virtually above the law. They want “gender-affirming care” and sterilization (yes, that word is in a bill) for anyone of any age without parental consent. They want health insurance providers to pay of all of this without any penalties or additional costs.

They also want us to believe all the non-profit pregnancy centers are the great evil and that giving progesterone to save the lives of babies is “medical fraud.”

These bills themselves blatantly contradict each other, and the opposition bravely proved this beyond any doubt. The Colorado House heard untold evil spewed, and a tidal wave of truth crushing every hypocrisy uttered under Denver’s golden dome.

Yet, because evil holds the super majority in the House, they could care less! In fact, they had to ram these bills through without amendments! Why? Because the First Lady herself is already scheduled to celebrate the signing ceremony.

Chelsea and I continue our coverage of Colorado’s three radical pro-abortion bills: SB23-188, SB23-189, and SB23-190.

In this episode we walk through some details for the three bills and how they could destroy genuine health care in Colorado. Abortion providers become a new protected class immune from criminal charges, even if women die in their “care.” Insurance programs must specially subsidize abortions and treatment for promiscuity. Yet, pregnancy centers become the great deceptive villains, and abortion pill reversals (progesterone) must be outlawed.

We play some salient clips from the Senate floor while they debated amendments to the bills. It was like pulling teeth for the opposition even to get the accusation that pregnancy centers are “fake clinics” removed from the legislative declaration of SB23-190.

As of this episode’s release the bills are scheduled for committee at the House. We anticipate a long day of citizen testimonies with another 3-to-1 opposition. Of course, this ratio rarely stops the radicals in the majority from being drunk on power to press ever harder a culture of death and an abortion dystopia. Prayers for this situation are very much appreciated.

We found out last Monday evening that the Colorado legislature is ramming through a package of three radical pro-abortion bills: SB23-188, SB23-189, and SB23-190.

The most dangerous and impacting to pregnancy resource centers is SB23-190: Deceptive Trade Practice Pregnancy-related Service. The language of this bill could penalize pregnancy centers for trying to advertise their services to help pregnant women in crisis. Even more devastating is a clear ban on any means of offering anything intending to reverse an abortion pill.

Chelsea and I spent this last week engaged in this battle. Tuesday evening we working on Chelsea’s testimony for the judiciary committee on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we worked on information to send out to legislators about this bill.

In this episode we play Chelsea’s testimony in the bill committee. We also play some salient points from other testimonies. In particular, we respond to some of the testimony of Dr. Mitchell Creinin, who conducted the world-renowned “inconclusive” clinical trial on abortion pill reversal. Dr. Creinin concludes that the practice is unproven and “medical fraud.”

We also played clips from other medical professionals who disputed Dr. Creinin’s claims.

If you are listening to this episode the day it is released, March 19, 2023, the bill is at the Colorado Senate floor and will voted on today. Prayers for this situation are very much appreciated.

Chelsea and I talk about current news of The Satanic Temple expanding programs in elementary schools, including in a small town in Colorado.

Lucien Greaves co-founded The Satanic Temple as a religious institution to claim religious rights recognized under the Constitution. The institution has seven secular humanistic tenants that sound reasonable until they are applied to political causes like abortion.

We observe four of Satan’s devices from the Bible for how Satan operates as the god of this world and through organizations like The Satanic Temple:

  1. Discrete operations
  2. Man-centeredness
  3. Deception of goodness
  4. Myth of neutrality

Chelsea and I continue our series about the Christian revivals in American history.

George Whitefield was an Anglican deacon in Oxford, England. He met John and Charles Wesley in college and joined their Methodist movement. With his Bachelor of Arts degree, booming voice, and supreme acting ability, Whitefield would become a young traveling preacher who could command crowds of up to 20,000 people in one occasion.

Whitefield would become America’s first celebrity as he traveled to the colonies seven times and toured up from Georgia to Massachusetts preaching the gospel freely to all sorts of people. He is credited for starting two orphanages mostly for African-American children. In the face of violent opposition and mockery, Whitefield would see thousands of converts, including two unexpected instances.

We address the fact that Whitefield wasn’t an abolitionist like his friend John Wesley, but we try to understand his reasoning in light of the time he lived as well as how he was leaps and bounds better than the respectable opinion of his time. In fact, this Englishman was instrumental to preparing the colonies for independence and later for emancipation.

Chelsea and I continue our series about the Christian revivals in American history.

Solomon Stoddard, a fiery preacher saw several revivals in his 60 years pastoring the church at Northampton, Massachusetts, but he embraced and expanded the Half-Way Covenant. Stoddard allowed open membership and open communion. The Northampton church grew to over 600 members, but over time the majority were likely unbelievers.

Stoddard’s grandson Jonathan Edwards would become the new pastor of the church. He would follow in the footsteps of revivalist preaching, with his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” Edwards would also see that the Half-Way Covenant and Stoddard’s church polity was enshrining the “dead religion” they were intended to solve.

Chelsea and I start a new series about the Christian revivals in American history.

The controversy over the recent “Asbury revival” drove us to ask the question “What is a revival?”

Using a dictionary, Scripture, and a Spurgeon quote, we come up with a working definition of a revival. Then, we dive deep into the setting of the American colonies in the 1600’s and early 1700’s.

As church life was decaying since the first generation of pilgrims covenanted the first Congregational churches in the Massachusetts Bay colony, pastors begin to look for revival.

Congregationalist churches practiced infant baptism but only granted church membership to attendees who could evidence regeneration. As the first generation’s children became adults but didn’t become fully covenanted members, could their children be baptized? Could they partake of the Lord’s Supper?

Boston pastor Richard Mather argued that the children were proper covenant members in some sense. The question remained whether to baptize children of “unregenerate” members into the third generation.

In 1662, Mather collaborated on what became known as the Half-Way Covenant to revive the church with a structural and political solution. Would it work?

Chelsea and I talk about more recent victories over Molech.

First, we look at the recent leaked document from the FBI targeting “traditional Catholics” as potential “terrorists.”

Then, we see four cases in the UK in which police punish pro-life people for their “silent prayer” activity in a censorship zone:

  1. Isabel Vaughn-Spruce
  2. Adam Smith-Connor
  3. Sean Gogh
  4. Livia Tossici-Bolt

All four are challenging the charges and seeking to be cleared in a court. We believe their cooperative but steadfast battles are victories over Molech. they reveal how absurd the Public Space Protection Orders are to try to shield abortion clinics from people who must be asked “Were you praying silently in your head?”

My wife Chelsea is back with me to talk about recent victories over Molech.

First, we explain the Biblical background of the pagan practice of sacrificing children to Molech. We see Satanic temples today claiming that abortion bans violate their “religious freedom” as abortions are literally a sacrament for them. The “NOW” statue at the New York supreme court looks like an idol to celebrate Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s fight for abortion “rights.”

Mark Houck, a pro-life volunteer at a pregnancy center, was recently acquitted of charges that he violated the FACE Act that could have landed him in prison for up to 11 years. Chelsea and I look at the media’s narrative on his story and how they ignore all the important details.

We walk through Houck’s story to see the lies and intimidation from the pro-abortion side. Houck shows us how standing up for truth ultimately leads to victory over Molech.

I go solo in this episode to explain how political ideology can abuse the Bible’s call to charity. This episode is based on notes that were originally for part of the Truthspresso Express series “Was Jesus a Socialist?”

After walking through the Sixth through the Tenth Commandment of the law, we see how coveting can be the most difficult command. Yet, too many Christians can support a backdoor to validate covetousness and stealing.

Putting government-enforced welfare schemes under the microscope of the Bible, we ask ourselves this question: Is it ever a morally virtuous and Christian thing to support threatening or initiating violence on someone who has not committed a crime?

We may think that coercive wealth distribution schemes are “doing God’s work,” but when we think deeply about it, does God ever command anyone to steal from people by the force of violence to provide for the poor? Perhaps the Christian doctrine of charity is that it is always lovingly and voluntary.

We also see how compromising a universal application of “Thou shalt not covet” and “Thou shalt not steal” can lead us to compromising all God’s commands.

Chelsea and I actually recorded two separate parts for this episode.

The annual March For Life in Washington D.C. happened on Friday, January 20th.

The annual Women’s March happened Sunday afternoon, January 22nd.

We recorded the first half about the March For Life on Saturday and the second half about the Women’s March on Sunday afternoon.

We give our overview and observations, as well as how the messages and demeanors of these two events clash.

One march seems to value life. The other march, perhaps unwittingly, values death.

Springboarding from our Christmas is pro-Life series, we jump into a recent bill from Congress on the outskirts of the abortion debate.

HR-26, also known as the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” passed the House of Representatives with a 220-210 vote.

The bill is simple and seemingly minimally common sense, yet House Democrats shrieked against it like banshees.

For 100% pro-lifers, this bill is not even against abortion itself, but it’s making the radically pro-abortion opponents reveal their true colors.

Newly elected Democrat Congresswoman Hillary Scholten claimed to be a “pro-choice Christian” and opposed the bill. She tried to quote Jeremiah 1:5 to support abortion, claiming that the womb belongs to the mother, not the government. Ironically, the bill itself only addresses babies once they are outside the womb.

We say, “No, No, Congresswoman Scholten, the Bible is not pro-Abortion!” Chelsea and I use Jeremiah 1:5 and other verses to show how God forms and values life inside the womb and outside.

Chelsea and I continue a series about the deeply Pro-Life message of the Christmas story.

The Jesus of the first Christmas clearly taught the value of human life as much as the Christmas story of His conception and birth was pro-life.

Did Jesus address abortion in particular during His earthly ministry? No, but that doesn’t mean He wouldn’t have if the question arose.

We observe some pro-life points from Jesus’ ministry:

  1. Jesus affirmed the whole Tanakh. Anything pro-life there is what Jesus believed (Mat 5:17-18; Luk 24:44).
  2. Jesus taught that God cares for birds but that we are far more valuable than many birds (Mat 6:26; Luk 12:7).
  3. We are not to despise little children (Mat 18:10; 6).
  4. It is not God’s will to kill little children (Mat 18:14).
  5. Little children are such that belong to the kingdom of heaven. We must have faith like they have (Mat 19:14; Luk 18:15-16).
  6. Jesus said that He came to bring life (Joh 6:33; 10:10). He came to give His life for others (Mat 20:28; Joh 10:11).
  7. Jesus said He came not to destroy lives but to save lives (Luk 9:56).
  8. Jesus equated doing good with saving life and doing evil with destroying life (Mar 3:4; Luk 6:9).

Chelsea and I continue a series about the deeply Pro-Life message of the Christmas story.

The first Christmas celebrates new life and demonstrates how we should protect life.

We observe some salient pro-life points from the Christmas story:

  1. Jesus experienced the full human experience from conception
  2. Elizabeth affirmed the personhood of Jesus when He was a tiny fetus.
  3. John the Baptist leapt in the womb to show his personhood while in the womb.
  4. The virgin conception was the greatest unplanned and unexpected pregnancy in history.
  5. Mary and Joseph cared for their child in the womb even in a hostile culture.
  6. Joseph recognized that the role of fatherhood included caring for a child that wasn’t biologically his own.
  7. Mary as a young mother and Elizabeth as an old mother would today be encouraged to consider abortion; yet, their pregnancies are glorious.

Originally aired December 21, 2020.

In this episode we are going to unwrap the depths of Isaiah 9:6 as a present from God for the first Christmas.

Isaiah 9:6: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

We look at each phrase and cross reference to see that it is a prophecy of the Messiah.

We also compare it with Isaiah 7:14 to verify that the Messiah would be truly born of a virgin.

We put other possible fulfillments to the test such as King Hezekiah, Isaiah’s son, or someone unknown from history.

We challenge ourselves to remember that the ultimate purpose of Jesus’ coming is to be the king over the earth. His suffering and atonement secures his citizenry.

We look at the name of the son as “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We find each part of this name describing God in the book of Isaiah.

We take on challenges against the incarnation and the deity of Christ as we explore this marvelous Hebrew name.

In this episode of Truthspresso Express I chat about Jesus and socialism while driving to work.

A coworker recently made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 6 I look at another of the socialist’s prooftexts: the parable of the Good Samaritan.

I observe five points from this story:

  1. The man doesn’t have an ethnic identity.
  2. The man was robbed of his possessions. He wasn’t robbed of allegedly potential possessions.
  3. The man was physically beaten. No “words are violence” message here.
  4. The Good Samaritan’s help was voluntary.
  5. The Good Samaritan used his own possessions to help him.

Chelsea and I continue our chat about parenting.

Parents–even Christian ones–are ever too prone to treating their children reflexively. We need to be conscious of our motives when we interact with our children and the times we have to resort to discipline.

We discuss five questions we can ask ourselves to evaluate our parenting:

  1. Are we putting our feelings first (and suppressing our children’s)?
  2. Are we placing guilt on our children?
  3. Are we giving our children the silent treatment?
  4. Are we ignoring healthy boundaries?
  5. Are we holding our children responsible for our happiness?

Ecclesiastes 7:10

In this episode of Truthspresso Express I chat about Jesus and socialism while driving to work.

A coworker recently made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 5 I look at another of the socialist’s prooftexts: the account of Zacchaeus. An article I read from a progressive Christian claims that Zacchaeus “got woke.” Does Zacchaeus’ salvation teach “woke” socialism?

I also observe four points from this story:

  1. Zacchaeus was a tax collector for a wicked government. His profiteering wasn’t free market capitalism.
  2. Zacchaeus’ conversion was different from what Jesus instructed for the rich young ruler.
  3. Zacchaeus didn’t give away all his wealth or abandon his house.
  4. Jesus immediately taught the anti-socialistic parable of the nobleman’s pounds to this same audience.

A coworker recently made the claim to me that Jesus was a socialist. I have certainly heard this claim before, but I figured I would address it.

In part 4 I look at one of the socialist’s prooftexts: the account of the rich young ruler. We see that this story doesn’t teach any forced redistribution of wealth. Jesus’ instructions to give up all possessions are also not universal to all disciples.

Jesus was dispelling the religious thought at the time that the wealth of religious leaders was proof of God’s approval.

We also read some Bible verses from the Old Testament to show that being rich or poor is not the issue but wisdom and righteousness with wealth.

Daniel interviews his brother John Mynyk about an unexpected visit from two Jehovah’s Witnesses. In part 2 of the interview, a more experienced Jehovah’s witness joined the conversation. We cover topics such as the 1914 prophecy, John 1:1, defining the Trinity, “the Father is greater than I,” Philippians chapter 2 and Jesus being “equal with God,” comparing Jehovah in Psalm 102:24-27 with the Son in Hebrews 1:8-12, and refuting the “agentival argument.”

Daniel interviews his brother John Mynyk about an unexpected visit from two Jehovah’s Witnesses. In part 1 of the interview we cover topics such as the name of Jehovah, John 1:1 and Jesus being “a god,” Jesus being impaled on a “torture stake” rather than a cross, and Jesus being recreated as a spirit being rather than resurrected in His original body.

Daniel explores how the Old Testament says that no one can see God while also saying that people did see God. These apparent contradictions are resolved in the revelation of Jesus Christ as the One Who is the image of the invisible God and is the One Who exegetes the Father. Daniel then demonstrates that Isaiah actually saw Jesus Christ in his glorious temple vision.

Daniel continues with the subject of the deity of Christ and the issue of worship as it relates to henotheism. He finishes with a brief critique of a portion of a debate on where this issue exposes the glaring problem with trying to worship a creature as Jesus is worshiped.
